CHAPTER 3: STILL WALKING
╚═══━━━─── • ───━━━═══╝
The next morning, Miryah and Sagi went back to the restaurant and began fixing the place. Even if it wasn't the same as before, they managed to tidy up the whole place in a short amount of time with considerable effort.
Sagi has a substantial knowledge of how to be a waiter waiting to be used and with some tips from Miryah, maybe she can do it. It was quite a relief that the damage inflicted by the leader was minimal, to the point that the damages accumulated can be hopefully ignored by Miryah's local customers.
Even though Miryah gave Sagi some tips on how to be a waitress, she somehow doubted if they could have at least one customer right now.
Upon opening they managed to rack up a number of customers to their relief in a short amount of time. For Miryah, this could have been considered a miracle. Sagi managed being a waitress just fine, as if she has the experience working as one.
"Four servings of Ramen for table five!"
Sagi exclaimed as she placed the meals on a serving platter prepared by the best cook Miryah. Balance is power as what Sagi believed. The customers are extra happy as Sagi collects their orders and serves them for some reason.
This setting continued for four hours until Miryah insisted that Sagi. Miryah might have endured both cooking and being a waitress but Sagi was obviously tired after continually serving customers without even a point or rest. Nevertheless, Miryah was convinced that Sagi was worth keeping her in the restaurant, not that she would kick once she failed at her job. It means that Miryah doesn't need to train Sagi later on.
Nothing erratic has happened since that morning. The thugs didn't return and Miryah hoped that they would forget the encounter. Miryah was completely prepared to give Sagi some allowance but Sagi refused, saying that she's completely ok having a shelter. Miryah warned her that it is not rather to compensate but it is written in the law. Sagi quickly relented.
Miryah felt bad threatening Sagi like that but it is for Sagi's own good.
It was getting dark once again, and the customers are still aplenty for this small restaurant. Maybe it was a good fortune, maybe the place quickly remembered that it was a good location for a good time to eat, or maybe Miryah's cooking is that good. Miryah was just happy that she has been blessed for today after the mishap yesterday.
Maybe after this, Miryah could buy some clothes for Sagi as a thank you gift...no, maybe beyond that. Afterall, Sagi is already a family to them.
Sagi was carrying a trash bag filled with trash and refuse and on her way to the dumpster located to the other side of the road behind the restaurant. Even though it was afternoon, the path where the dumpster lay was dark and it took Sagi some courage to approach it and place all of the garbage.
No, she's not definitely scared of ghosts, she just wary that someone might jump at her from the darkness. When that thug leader showed off his 'quirk', Sagi knew she can't just relax as easily as it was back at her own world. She is still not familiar yet with the norms here in this world.
Sagi was wary when there was no one in the area rather than being populated. She swears someone could be hiding or worse. That's why she hurriedly finished dumping all of the garbage into the dumpster before retreating to the restaurant.
When she turned around, she was surprised that someone foolish enough to face her headpoint, to the point it was invading her personal space. Sagi felt her heart jump when she was presented to a grinning stranger. She just subconsciously stepped back and further strengthened her resolve.
The stranger seemed to not be a threat...at least not yet. Sagi wisely put a space between them before she could interact.
"Umm, hello… what's the occasion?" She carefully asked.
The stranger just smiled wickedly, showing off a toothy grin, before containing her sanity. She brushed her dirty ash blond hair repeatedly as if she was fixing her appearance. Sagi also noticed that she has beet red coloring frequently lathered on her cheeks. She was also jumpy for no reason.
"You have beautiful eyes!" The stranger said.
Again, Sagi felt nervous after all. For it reminded her of Cutthroat of how beautifully her eyes and that it made her instinctively blinked. She hoped that the girl in front of her wasn't Cutthroat reincarnate.
"Thanks… ?" Sagi made it look like she was oblivious at what the stranger was implying. The stranger was confused for a moment before looking back at the restaurant and pointing at it.
"You work there, right?" The stranger asked and Sagi nodded abruptly. "G-good, I'm hungry after all." The stranger said as she hopped along toward the restaurant with a glee. Sagi wondered what happened and just followed her through the back entrance of their restaurant.
Sagi knew it was strictly employees only but for some reason, she doesn't want to anger the stranger.
The restaurant was empty save for Sagi, Miryah and their mysterious stranger, who thankfully didn't witness their awkward first encounter, although Miryah suspected that something happened for the two of them.
Sagi confessed what happened earlier and Miryah deduced that it was just a normal interaction after all.
"Maybe, she was just a shy and awkward girl after all." Miryah commented. Currently, they were in the kitchen room where the stranger couldn't see them.
Nevertheless, Sagi felt uneasy for some reason, to the point she was caressing her shoulders to calm her off. Miryah just patted her on her shoulder for her good job.
The stranger already paid for her steaming ramen, which was in front of her, but didn't even touch or look at it, only maintaining her stare at the door, which where Sagi and Miryah was currently there. She was also smiling, as if she was waiting for something to occur.
"Maybe she wanted to talk to you… you know girly things.?" Miryah suggested, much to Sagi's dismay.
"What?!" Sagi exclaimed in disbelief but before she could argue with Miryah, she was already pushed out of the kitchen and into the dining area.
"C'mon, talk to her. I'll be behind here watching you in case something happens." Miryah chirped. "Maybe she wanted to become friends with you!"
Sagi likes to do the opposite of what Miryah suggested but she has no place for argument. For the sake of Miryah, she will do this, she says. The stranger gasped upon seeing her for the second time and waved at her madly and grinning like a cat, indicating that she wanted her to sit in front of her.
Sagi just sighed as she had no other choice but to approach the stranger with scrutiny, Sagi took a seat and sitted abruptly opposite of the stranger.
Then the stranger lumped her head upon her hand and gave Sagi a comforting smile.
"So what do you want?" Sagi asked, arms crossed beneath her chest.
"N-nothing, hee-hee..." The stranger said with an accompanying chuckle. "I've been hearing about this restaurant lately and just happened to come across it."
"Great." Sagi remarked. "I hope you are satisfied with our menu."
"Of course, of course… just tell me and I'll order some more just for you!"
"Ok…? I mean you don't need to!" Sagi panicked, denying the plea of the stranger.
The stranger just laughed jubilantly. "You're funny!" she commented.
"..."
"Hey, I actually have something to ask." The stranger told her. "I just remembered it right now."
"Really?"
"I was supposed to ask if you knew about someone."
"Heh?" Sagi was beginning to be suspicious. The only ones whom she knew were Miryah and her son Din. Maybe the stranger just mistook her for someone.
The stranger then urged her to come closer. "I will have to whisper it into your ears."
Sagi just gulped in nervousness, she had this itching feeling that the stranger might bite into her ear, which is just plain impossible. Right? Nevertheless, Sagi reached for the stranger and lent her ears to her.
The stranger's breathy response tickled Sagi's ears but she endured it nonetheless. "I've been hearing quite recently about some Pro-Hero Crackshot defending this shop..."
Sagi immediately retracted and sat opposite of the stranger once more, heart beating wildly and eyes open wide. "W-what are you saying?" Sagi really tried to lie but she felt her mouth twisted from uneasiness.
The stranger just laughed. "Uwah, you knew something… tell me, tell me, tell me!" The stranger was quite jumpy all of the sudden. Sagi knew she couldn't lie any more so she confessed. The stranger was extremely interested for some reason.
"I think I've made up that persona. I apologized." Never have Sagi thought that the stranger crestfallen. Sagi feared that she might get imprisoned for pretending so she asked the stranger. "Umm, can I ask two more things?"
After a minute of the stranger's mind boggling experience, she responded. "S-sure, ask right away, we're friends after all, right?" The stranger immediately became highly active after that depressive state and it made Sagi more suspicious than ever.
"I'm not going to prison for pretending to be someone, right?"
"*urgh*" The stranger barely keeps her saliva from laughing too much. "You are worried over something stupid…? That's ridiculous..! You're not a Villain, right? Right!" She spluttered.
"N-nah, of course, I'm not a Villain! Definitely not!" Sagi said hesitantly and gave the stranger a nervous chuckle. If her guts were right then the equivalent of 'Akudamas' back from her world were 'Villains' here in this world.
The stranger just gives her a judging stare before becoming jubilant, too fast for Sagi to notice her critical eye.
"You have another question, right? Ask right away!"
"Where did you hear about 'Pro-Hero Crackshot'?" Sagi asked. Fearing that those thugs might spread some misinformation around here.
"Some dumb muscles not far from here…" The stranger responded. "They looked awfully hysterical, shouting about a 'Pro-Hero' protecting a certain restaurant." Then her gaze turned toward Sagi menacingly. "Who cares? They are just too comical to be taken seriously." The stranger wanted to comfort Sagi, as she noticed that she increasingly became pale every minute.
"Right..." Sagi just huffed.
The stranger then repeatedly patted Sagi's back in soft motion. "... Don't worry about those thugs! They can't spread those malicious words anymore."
"Eh, how did you know?"
The strangers glinted for a mere second. "Just a hunch."
Sagi noticed that the outside had begun dark all of the sudden. "It's getting dark outside… maybe you should be on your way."
The stranger looked outside and feigned surprise. "Ooops, I still have work to do!" Then she turned toward Sagi and smiled. "Thank you for occupying my time, Miss- "
Onako, Sagi Onako."
"Miss Sagi-san, you have been a great friend! Maybe I'll spend another time here on another day." The stranger was about to walk then paused for a moment.
"Oh, dumb 'ol me." She cursed herself, bonked her head softly and then turned again toward Sagi. "Sagi-chan, you should ask me my name, you know?"
Sagi was also surprised. "A-ah, I forgot… then can I ask your name?"
"Himiko Toga… good girl at your service."
Himiko said before she left the shop for good. Sagi only waved at her subconsciously as she was gone. She thinks that Himiko was just some odd girl who wanted to be friends.
Well, who knows, maybe Sagi might encounter Himiko once more the following day.
