CHAPTER 4: THE USUAL SUSPECTS
╚═══━━━─── • ───━━━═══╝
Sagi was still cleaning the mess left in the dining room after Himiko left. She was still thinking how she would approach Himiko if she were to meet with her once again. It was clear that Himiko is not normal, and that Sagi thought she was somewhat wary of her. She was wiping the table with a rag and sweeped the floor as if she was used to it.
"..." Sagi mumbled instinctively when she felt a slight pain in her hand. She found out that she had a small cut on her hand as she checked on it. She didn't remember being wounded earlier and definitely did not feel it before.
Welp, thanks to her small wound, Sagi already forgot about Himiko and since she doesn't want to think deeply of where she got her wounds from, she opted to sucked on it and apply a first aid kit.
After all, she will have to prepare for the next day.
Himiko was already far away from the small restaurant whom she had recently visited and yet she couldn't stop thinking about Sagi. Sagi was one of the normal individuals who didn't push her away for being crazy… as if she was used to having a friend of one. She chuckled a lot everytime she took a step.
Then seeing that she was alone on a certain path, she produced a small knife which she used to nick Sagi's hand sneakily. Of course, Himiko was an expert in not dealing with any pain. After all, she can't let Sagi suffer any pain in their first encounter. She genuinely wanted Sagi to be her friend. Friends offer blood to each other, right?
No, Himiko did not want to think about that for the moment. She then placed the small knife by her nose and sniffed it since Sagi's blood was still on it and it was very good. Sagi\s blood smelled pretty! Himiko's eyes widened in realization.
Then without any warning, Himik immediately licked the blade for pleasure and felt her body tremble upon tasting Sagi's blood. What euphoric substance did Sagi's blood contain? Why was Sagi's blood so good!?
Himiko continued licking the blade till her tongue got cut and it never mattered for Himiko. What Himiko felt was discontent because she had already slurped all of the remaining Sagi's blood and now she could only taste her own blood right now, which is not bad either but still. As a blood connoisseur, she can identify which blood belongs through taste alone.
Himiko stopped lapping the knife and immediately cleaned it with a clean cloth. She doesn't want to stain her pockets with blood either. Even though she managed to taste Sagi's blood, it is still not enough to transform into likeness of Sagi.
As Himiko passed a dark alley, she was suddenly met with three dead thugs whom she remembered she massacred earlier. Of course, one of the reasons she silenced them was that they were too noisy to ignore and promptly killed them without any hesitation. Yes, she remembered that they were shouting about some Pro-Hero protecting a restaurant in terror and that vested an interest in her. After all, she was curious to meet different kinds of Pro-Heroes and what their blood tastes and feels like.
Luckily, she knew what those thugs at the restaurant they mentioned, for they are infamous in their local area for harassing that small time restaurant alone. If the thugs, who looked ridiculously big and tough, were scared by some mere newbie Pro-Hero who protected that restaurant, why not check on it right away? Himiko wasn't dumb, she checked the list of Pro-Heroes in the internet, expecting it that the Pro-Hero was kind of new and realized that whoever it was, did not exist.
Himiko's inquisitiveness only deepened further. The restaurant alone was now becoming more interesting to the point she was urged to visit it right now.
Well, when she found the shop, Himiko failed to see any individual that hints of being Pro-Hero but she found none. Himiko stayed a distance, opting to survey the restaurant before making sure it was safe to enter.
When it was getting late and no Pro-Hero even visited the small restaurant, Himiko decided to risk herself and entered the restaurant for good. Luckily, she has a couple of bills to buy some ramen. After all, she was hungry right now.
That's where she met Sagi for the first time. It was as if it was love at the first sight.
Himiko fondly remembered the memories she acquired recently and she wanted Sagi to be comfortable as heck, and she immediately disposed of those bodies. It was such a miracle no one saw those cadavers. She can't just let those harmful rumors reach the restaurant.
As she buried those bodies somewhere in the park, Himiko wondered why the thugs were suffering from extreme panic attacks. They should have figured out that the Pro-Hero they are referring to was fake and yet they were shouting to the heavens, as if begging for mercy.
…
…
…
Himiko's eyes suddenly widened, as if she figured out something.
"Ora, what do we have here?" An individual, cascaded by the trees under the moonlight, was curious about Himiko's action, such as burying three bodies for some reason. He was smoking casually in front of Himiko.
Himiko froze for a moment but she had already done the deed. Her arms are already dirtied. Instincts told her to attack the person immediately but she knew who it was.
"Dabi-san..." She chuckled, far cry from what she usually does. "Just burying some bodies..." she reasoned.
Even though Dabi treated Himiko like a nutjob, Himiko wouldn't do something as drastic as burying bodies of dead unnamed thugs. If he remembered, Himiko would be content leaving a dead body alone.
Surely, there is something more to what Himiko was trying to do.
"What the hell are you doing, Himiko?"
Himiko then grinned maniacally.
"Dabi-san, I think we have a possible recruit."
Sagi and Miryah were immediately back to their home. It was such a relief that nothing overtly bad happened to the restaurant and was pleased that they have customers coming back now. Sagi was curious over something, really, she didn't want to bother Miryah during work.
"Miryah-san, I have something to ask."
Miryah just gave her a side glance. "What is it, Sagi-san?"
"Did the restaurant not flourish when those thugs continued to harass you?"
"..."
"I mean you don't need to answer..."
"Those thugs had been a blight for my restaurant over the week. They kept on ruining my business"
"I-I see..." Then she remembered about Pro-Heroes and polices and she was about to ask her when Miryah already knew what she was trying to imply.
"I know what you wanted to ask… why didn't you ask for help from Pro-Heroes? It's because they are far from this place… and that this place is not worthy to be saved." Miryah said with sadness in her voice. "That's why I just endured it… but I did not give up."
"...That's so sad and rude." Sagi commented.
"That's why it was a blessing that you came to the restaurant… you literally saved my measly business."
"I-it's not that much, I just really wanted to have a shelter to live on." Sagi confessed, scratching her head in Miryah's praise.
"But still, your quirk must have been amazing..."
"Quirk, what quirk?"
"You know… the one where you convinced those thugs?"
"..." Sagi could only look at Miryah with dumbfoundedness and Miryah decided not to pursue that topic any further. Miryah knew the tell-tales of one using a quirk and that Sagi's quirk is somehow connected to her voice but it seemed that Sagi wasn't interested in it. Miryah thinks it was related to her backstory.
"On the other hand, we might have to go to the mall to shop for your clothes."
"Eh, I mean, you don't need to divulge yourself to my needs!"
"But I insist, you need some proper clothes for tomorrow." Miryah was adamant not to be swayed by her decision.
It seemed that Sagi had no other choice but to give in. She thought that she wasn't worth it but Miryah says otherwise. Sagi was confused.
"By Sunday, we'll need to do shopping for ingredients as well as for your clothes."
"Y-yes, I'll be there to accompany you right?" Sagi guessed.
"Of course. I can't just guess your sizes..." Miryah was expertly looking at Sagi's chest. "Those are your only underwear, right? Wearing your one and only underwear could wear and tear them in a short amount of time… it's better to have three or more… and no you can't just borrow mine."
Sagi felt the need to cover her chest in embarrassment. "Miryah-san!" she exclaimed but Miryah already left to the kitchen to prepare their meals with a smirk on her face. Miryah might have been right but she doesn't need to spell it in front of her face.
The next day, their restaurant was opened once more and since there are no thugs harassing them anymore, the restaurant has beens serving them well. People were frolicking and the business was booming. The strategic location and the food that Miryah cooked so well might be one of the factors why Miryah was confident that her restaurant never failed… aside from the constant bullying of the thugs of course.
Even though this is her third day in this world, Sagi couldn't move on to the assortment of people who visited their restaurant. There was someone with blue-skin. Someone with red eyes and long tongue, someone with horns and so on and yet they lived their lives as if nothing matters to them. For Sagi, it was just a pleasing sight.
The place was almost filled with trying customers with few tables and chairs to spare.
For all the people that visited the restaurant, Sagi couldn't help but think when would Himiko visit them once more. Despite how normal she looked, for Sagi, she stood out the most due to her eccentric personality and it even outweighs people with strange appearance. Himiko really stood out at the sight of Sagi.
Speaking of the devil, Sagi immediately spotted Himiko among the people waiting for the line since she was intensely waving at her. Sagi only smiled and approached her intently. Himiko was wearing something similar to a female student uniform and Sagi deduced that she might be a high-school student.
"Hello, Himiko-san, how's your day?"
"It's great, I am looking forward to another batch of ramen. Those looked delicious after all."
Sagi was just delighted with what she had heard lately. "That's great, I can't wait to serve you."
Himiko nodded enthusiastically and then thought for a moment.
"Excuse me… this might be unnecessary but I brought a friend here."
"Really, that's really great, where is he?" Sagi said as she waited for her response.
Himiko suddenly pulled someone's arm and locked it, much to his dismay. "Say hello to Dabi-san!" The man just grumbled when Himiko didn't let go of his arm. Sagi could only look and blinked at the man who was named Dabi for he has the most eccentric features her eyes have ladened on.
Dabi has patches of wrinkled purplish skin all over his body, while adorned with stapes over the edges. All in all, he really looked hardcore, to the point people that was waiting at the restaurant gave them a nice space not to touch him. Sagi's opinion is only reserved to herself, she just can't offend this Dabi guy over a few words.
Dabi was already looking at Sagi with disgust, whom Himiko considered already a friend, with the intent to incinerate her once all of this charade is over but he was somewhat surprised when Sagi offered a hand. He thought that Sagi was looking at him with disgust but he found out that he was just wrong after all.
"Hi there, you must be Dabi, Himiko's supposed to be your friend, right?" Dabi just took her hand and immediately shook it mildly. Sagi could feel his hand warm somehow.
"You are Sagi Onako..." was all that Dabi could utter before he let go.
This encounter might be interesting after all.
AN: I was just wondering if I get Himiko and Dabi's personality right. Please review if I somehow made them a bit OOC.
