Descendants Fam!
Everyone still with us?
That last chapter, am I right?
Well, buckle up. The laughs and sour anger don't stop here.
Hopefully.
If we did our jobs right.
Lots of Love,
-Dark-
He stares at the hologram for several long moments.
That had been-
Different.
He'd thought for sure Hiro wasn't going to take it seriously.
But damn.
Talk about a lost bet.
Not that he was complaining.
But, Kai*.
He'd pulled all the stops.
In all the years he'd known the lolo iki brah, he could count the number of times Hiro talked about losing his brother on one hand.
He blinks when Nani shuts off her phone and settles back on the couch, one foot under her so she could twist to look at him and Jay.
"Hiro lost his brother to a villain?" Jay asks, so quietly he almost didn't catch it.
"Yeah," Nani sighs as she runs a hand through her hair.
He lets out a heavy sigh as he mirrors her position.
Jay shifts on the couch, tightly crossing his arms over his chest as he makes himself smaller.
Kai, the way this kid could make his chest hurt.
He looks Jay over with a frown as he meets Nani's gaze before they both turn back to Jay.
Waiting for him to continue.
"Why is it you guys can tolerate us, but others who haven't-" Jay sighs, "I mean- I don't know what I'd do if someone else hurt Carlos, and if someone killed-" He squeezes his eyes shut.
His heart jumps to his throat.
Jay.
He'd never met a kid with such raw emotion.
He lets out a breath. "I think if Hiro's friends weren't with him, we wouldn't know Hiro."
Jay nods, "Yeah…" He sighs before he stands from the couch, "I could see how that would change a good person's mind. Keep them from doing the wrong thing even if it felt like it could be the right thing." He frowns before he looks away.
He sighs, "When someone does something awful to someone you care about-"
"Love man," Jay sighs, "I can admit that. I love them. I think I've always loved a lot of them and just didn't know what it was."
A small, sad smile pulls at his lips.
Kai, this kid was going to be the death of him.
"Jay, I can't imagine how much it hurts, but I know it does." Nani holds one hand out towards him, "And, you're a good kid. We know that, even if you start to forget it."
He sighs.
It hurt.
Just watching him.
Hurt.
Watching him struggle.
He was pretty sure he knew a few people who'd come to Jay's mind.
Also knew it was different.
It sucked.
Pain being so relative.
If Hiro had seen Callaghan actually set Tadashi on fire- Had seen him systematically torture and abuse his brother for years…
He doubted that Hiro would be on screen now, no matter how many of his friends had been with him.
This was such a drastically different situation.
With so many variables.
Too many variables.
He wasn't a violent person.
It wasn't his go-to.
And while Jay tended to have violent tendencies, they were usually directed towards his person, not others.
Jay takes a deep breath as he stares at Nani's hand. "I want to be a good person." He says as he inches closer to her, as his hand twitches like he was trying to reach for Nani without realizing it. "I really do. And so do the others."
"You are a good person," Nani frowns. "All of you are. Your friends on the Isle too." She adds softly. "I've never questioned that."
He nods, "Jay, brah. I know it's hard to see, with what your thinkin' but, you're just lost in the ocean right now."
Kai.
He just wanted to pull Jay to them so bad.
Make his decision for him.
It hurt like hell to wait.
To see if he'd actually come closer.
Jay takes another step before he hesitates again, "What am I supposed to tell Carlos?"
"What are you worried about him knowing?"
"That Hiro was hurt by a villain."
Nani tilts her head to the side in confusion before she turns to him.
Ah. He nods.
"He already knows."
Jay lets out a huge sigh of relief before he takes Nani's hand and lets her guide him into her arms, hugging him tightly.
He can't help his smile.
Tightness in his chest or not, seeing the two of them together like that made his breath come a bit easier.
Jay.
Their son.
It was still weird.
Adopting one of his clients.
No.
Adopting a kid.
Period.
After everything they'd been through with Lilo…
Not that it was a traumatic experience- He hoped. For her.
But with Jay?
It just felt different.
Felt right.
If it wouldn't have been hella unhealthy, they would've adopted all of them.
But Jay's family already had enough attachment issues, and they wanted to help them ease into a healthier pack.
Not so bark and bitey.
"Get in here you lolo." Nani chides when Jay shifts.
He chuckles, "Right." He grins as he happily joins the hug. He nudges Jay's head with his chin. "You are you know, a good kid. One of the best I've ever met."
One of Jay's arms snakes around his side, holding him tightly.
"I'm just glad Carlos doesn't have to-" Jay sighs, "Or already did go through this. Finding out Hiro's story." He shakes his head.
He smiles at the deflection, "Everyone takes things in different ways."
"For you, it's worrying if you'd be able to stop yourself. For Carlos, it was a road trip." Nani offers gently.
"Seriously?" Jay sighs as he pulls back slightly, "That's what that heart attack was about?"
"So I understand from Hiro's handling of the situation." Nani nods.
Jay shakes his head before he leans back into their hug.
He could feel the heat from Jay's face and neck.
He couldn't even be mad at Hiro for this.
He wanted to be.
Fuck if he wasn't pissed.
But Hiro'd just bared his entire soul for the world to judge in the hopes of helping him, his son, and their friends.
Still, he wanted to hurt something.
Hurt something badly.
"I think- If Hiro ever met Cruella, he wouldn't be able to stop himself a second time," Nani whispers.
"I guess that makes me feel a little better." Jay whispers as his grip tightens around both of them, "Because there's a list of people I'm not sure I'd be able to make the good choice over if I ever see them again."
He frowns, "I know it's a long list Jay." He sighs, "A really long list. But, that doesn't make you a bad person."
"It just means you understand how much those people affected the people you love." Nani continues as she runs a hand over Jay's hair.
"There's a difference," He adds, "In Hiro's story, there was justice."
"And in ours's, justice was already served to the villains," Jay says as if completely resigned to the fact that there would never be justice for them.
"But it hasn't though. Not for the four of you. Not for the rest of the kids on the Isle. And that's not f- It's fucking bullshit. Pure fucking bullshit." Nani's voice cracks.
Jay snorts. "I'd be okay with more of this," He tightens his hold on them briefly, "and the others getting something like it too."
"Everyone needs to hear-"
"I think he's talking about the cussing."
"That too." Jay snorts again, "But I meant this…" His skin heats up again, "This feeling. With both of you. I want this for the others too."
Kai, this kid was trying to kill him today.
"Jay…" Nani whispers as she hugs him tighter. "I want that for them too."
"We both do, I mean, Mal might not get the cussing part- but this part? The part you're feeling right now? I have no doubt they'll get it. It'll just take some time to get there with them."
Nani nods, "And so will your friends who aren't here yet. We, all of us, will help see to that."
Jay takes a deep breath, clings to them harder for another moment, and then slowly pulls away again, "Thank you." He whispers as he wipes at his face.
"Anytime," Nani smiles as she releases him slowly and twists to hand him a box of tissues from behind her.
Jay grimaces as he takes one and quickly wipes at his face, "Should I go get Carlos and the others? I don't really understand what happened in the debate, but it felt like Hiro won."
David's lip twitches, "It does feel like a win."
"Would you rather I-" Nani sighs after she picks up her phone, "Hiro's on his way."
He frowns as he looks between Nani and Jay.
"Why don't you text Mal and see if they want to join up. In the meantime, I can order food or something. Have you guys tried Chinese yet?"
"Lonnie mentioned wanting to get Chinese on our next date." Jay tilts his head to the side.
"Oh." He clicks his tongue, "Thai?"
"No no-" Jay holds his hands up, "Can we get Chinese? I don't want to look like an idiot if I end up not liking it."
Nani chuckles when he puts a finger to his nose, "I got'cha brah."
"Put it on the gold card this time," Nani states as she stands up.
"Oooh. It's like that?"
"Yeah, it's like that. And make sure to get two of everything. Large."
Jay blinks as he looks between them before he shrugs, "Weird, but okay."
"Oh, and Cobra Bubbles will be here later," Nani points out after checking her phone again, "So, you." She juts her finger in his direction, "Get your shit in order. Not Carlos. You. I don't want to hear it from either of you. I've got a lot of shopping to do with that card later."
Jay collapses onto the couch next to him once Nani disappears into the bathroom, "Nani can be scary."
He nods silently, "Terrifyingly so."
"I'll help you get things organized if you need it."
"No, you don't have to do that," He nods his head as he mouths 'please.'
He could use the help with getting things done, while he organized his case files.
Jay chuckles, "Does this mean I'm meeting your boss tonight?"
"Sounds like it," He grins, "Don't get me wrong, he's one of the biggest softies you will ever meet-" He puffs up his cheeks before he lets out the air, "But, ya know, me."
"He hates messes," Jay rubs the back of his neck, "I don't think he's going to like me much." He chuckles nervously before he sighs, "Want me to call the place and tell them one large of everything?"
"Don't worry 'bout it brah, you haven't sat through four of his case coding courses," He grins sheepishly. "And if ya want brah." He shifts, pulling out his wallet. "Here," He hands Jay the card. "When they ask for the CVV it's here."
Jay nods as he passes him his phone, "Number." he explains as he turns the card over in his hand in confusion.
He opens his phone and pulls up the number, "Here, let me know if they give you any shit. Oh, and order like four of the Krab Rangoon, you guys are going to for sure love that."
"Oh, okay." Jay grins as he hits call and stands up.
He smiles as he watches Jay.
Kai, he loved this kid.
Angriest, caring, kind ass kid, ever.
"Yeah, seriously. Four Krab Rangoons and one large of everything else on the menu."
"I said two!" Nani calls from the bathroom.
"I mean two." Jay's eyes widen as he looks back at the door over his shoulder, "Two large of everything else on the menu. Two. My mom said two."
He can't help his snort.
Nani pokes her head out the door with a giant smile, "Awww, thanks Jay."
Jay smiles and nods, but something told him the kid didn't actually know what Nani was thanking him for.
And Nani hadn't realized Jay was the one ordering food.
Oh, miscommunication were so funny sometimes.
Jay's face suddenly flushes before he walks over and holds the phone out to him, "They want to talk to an adult now that I said mom."
"Fucking dumb." David rolls his eyes as goes to take the phone, only to have Nani snatch it.
"What the fuck do you mean you can't take the order from my son. What type of ageist bull is that?"
Jay's blush deepens, but as he throws himself on the couch he notices the slight smile.
Cute.
Jay is so fucking adorable.
David is a fucking boss.
And Nani, like pretty much every female in our books, is fierce as fuck.
David's in a mood.
Any of you feeling it?
I love the Descendants franchise. Like, love it with a passion. But seriously fuck Auradon.
Classist pricks.
What'cha thinking after this chapter?
Personally, I'm thinking Crab Rangoons and boneless spare ribs and am now sad with my peanut butter and fluff plate.
I hate bread with my sandwich like things. Love bread with butter. Anyone have that proclivity?
Yes Dark, I'm counting that as one of the questions.
