To Help the Prince of the Underworld
"What the fuck happened?!" Thanatos ran towards Megaera who held a bruised and bleeding Zagreus in her arms. He had a pained expression on his face, groaning and slightly wet with tears.
"I don't know alright? I-He... He walked to me like this. He didn't die this time Than." Meg's face and voice were more worried than Than had ever seen.
Than was death, he'd seen a lot, he'd seen Zag emerge from the river what feels like hundreds of times now. But he's never seen him like this, "This shouldn't have happened. He should revive by now, look at him." Than stepped closer to brush Zag's unruly and bloody hair off his face.
The touch much have woken him up because he groaned in pain, slowly blinking his eyes open, only to find the very worried faces of his lovers looking down at him.
"Oh. Am I in heaven this time?" Zag flashed what he thought was a cocky smirk but it was all bloody and considering his state, scary looking. Neither Meg or Than were squimish, but the sight of their boyfriend like this make them recoil.
"Hardly you stubborn fool." Meg tried to scold him but it didn't carry well with her panicking voice, "What should we do?" She asked Than, not taking her eyes off Zag, almost scared that he would break in her arms.
"I-" Than was freaking the hell out, he felt like yelling and crying, but he had to keep it together, for Zag and for Meg, "Let's get him to the river. For now that seems like his best bet."
"Alright. Hang on Zag." Meg placed an uncharacteristically gentle kiss on Zag's cheek.
Zag chuckled, "That felt nice." His eyes fluttered close before snapping open again, "Wait!" Meg and Than stopped and looked at him with wide eyes, panic written all over their faces. Zag turned his head towards Than, "You too. I don't wanna die without your kiss."
Something about Zag talking about his death right now made Than's heart break. How could he refuse when his Prince was asking so nicely, so broken and yet so affectionate still, "Only you Zag." He smiled his best smile as he leaned over to kiss Zag's other cheek.
Really it was only Zag who would ask for little kisses even though his life was snuffing out. He never lost his charm, his smile, or his cocky nature even as Than and Meg lowered him into the river.
The light in his eyes was running out, "See you two soon. Wait for me."
"Always Zag. Always." Than spoke as he let go of of Zag's hand.
"We'll be here when you wake up." Meg whispered as she too let go of his hand. And that was the last thing Zag heard before losing consciousness and sinking into the river of blood.
He emerged hours later and true to their word Than and Meg were there to welcome him with open arms and kisses.
