Author's note: This is unrelated to the story; but with everything that's going on in the world right now, I hope you're all safe and healthy. You have my best wishes.
Mygeeto
Luke and Ahsoka had travelled further into the storage and supply room and had sat themselves on top of a crate.
"I suppose we need a place to start" said Ahsoka "I noticed when you heard me mention the Clone Wars, you seemed amazed by it as if…it was some historical event. Last I remember, the Clone Wars ended about a year ago; tell me, how long has it been for you?"
"You were in there for a long time" replied Luke "The Clone Wars ended twenty years ago, around the time I was born. Since then, the Empire took control"
"It's been twenty years since the rise of the Empire?" said Ahsoka "It's really been that long?" She looked down at her hands and wrists before touching her face to feel if she had any wrinkles or other signs of aging.
"Relax" said Luke "You look about the same age as me"
"Phew!" said Ahsoka "That's a relief, I was pretty much eighteen last I remember. The thought of being in much older all of a sudden…" She shivered at the thought.
"That pod you were in was a stasis pod, you must have been stuck in suspended animation this whole time" said Luke.
"Yes, that makes sense" said Ahsoka.
"You really don't remember how you got into that pod?" asked Luke.
"No" replied Ahsoka. She closed her eyes and tried to think back. "It's like…that memory is blocked to me. Maybe it's just shock, I don't know. But whatever it is, I just can't remember" Hearing this, Luke felt guilty as if he was pressuring her with his questions. But nevertheless, there were still things he needed to know.
"I don't really know much about suspended animation technology, but I suppose it could be possible for the experience could cause such shock" said Luke "Especially if you're not used to it"
"I hope so; otherwise, I don't know what" said Ahsoka.
"About what you can remember, you said that you weren't a Jedi anymore" said Luke "Why's that? What happened?"
"I was a Jedi Padawan during the Clone Wars" replied Ahsoka "But I had a falling out with the Order during that time and decided to leave. It's…not something I like talking about, if that's okay"
"Sorry, I just wanted to know" said Luke "I'm as confused as you are about all of this" He still wanted to know more about Ahsoka but he knew he had to be patient considering all the young Togruta girl seemed to have been through herself.
"It's okay; I'm just not ready to discuss it yet, if that's alright" said Ahsoka.
"What happened to you after that, what can you remember?" asked Luke.
"After I left the Order, I wanted to leave the Jedi behind as much as I could" replied Ahsoka "Despite this, I still got targeted by the Empire; so I went into hiding, keeping my distance from the Core Worlds as much as possible. And that's the last I can remember. So, what has happened while I was gone? You mentioned something about a Rebel Alliance that you're a part of. I can sense that there's still conflict in the galaxy"
"I'm no historian but I'll try to explain it the best I can" said Luke "With the Jedi gone, there was no one to stand in the way of the Galactic Empire. But after years of subjugating and enslaving worlds, various groups formed that opposed the Empire and fought back against them. Most of them fell; but eventually, their remnants banded together to form the Alliance to Restore the Republic"
"Your Rebel Alliance, I assume" said Ahsoka.
"The Alliance's goal is to defeat the Empire and create a New Republic" said Luke "We started out small; but over the years, we gained more and more support from various worlds and other resistance groups and now we're big enough to take on the Imperial military. This lead to the war we're currently in, the Galactic Civil War"
"And what of the Jedi?" asked Ahsoka "Last I remember, the survivors of Order 66 were branded as war criminals and were hunted by the Empire like myself. Tell me, are there any left?"
"The Empire was very thorough" replied Luke "I'm afraid that most of them were killed" A sense of realization and horror befell on Ahsoka's face as she heard this. Although Luke did not know the full truth of why she left the Order, he could tell she felt no pleasure in learning this. "But it's not over. Obi-Wan Kenobi survived and he began teaching me how to become a Jedi"
"I figured that right away" smirked Ahsoka with a subtle sense of relief in her voice. She looked down at Luke's lightsaber in her hands. "You're strong in the Force…you carry a lightsaber…and you call Obi-Wan Kenobi your master"
"How did you know, Obi-Wan?" asked Luke.
"He was a friend of mine during the Clone Wars" replied Ahsoka "Him and I went on missions together"
"Was he your master?" asked Luke. He remembered what Obi-Wan had told him about his "other pupil", but he had never specified how many students he had trained over the years before they met.
"No, but he was one of the masters I looked up to most" replied Ahsoka. She took a deep breath in and looked down. "I'm probably going to regret saying this, but I would rather know the truth; what happened to him? You said that he was your master, but you act as if he's...not with you right now" Now came the part he had difficulty talking about
"I'm afraid he…sacrificed himself to protect me" replied Luke "I wanted to help him but…but I couldn't get to him in time" Part of Ahsoka wanted to be mad at him, but she could not. She was well aware of what it felt like to be unable to help your master when they were in need; besides, there was something about Luke that she found intriguing.
"I'm sorry to hear that" said Ahsoka whilst trying to hold her emotions in "He was...He was a good friend"
Meanwhile
Vari stood watch on top of a crate when he heard the noise of a door opening. He turned around to see a squad of stormtroopers enter the room.
"Alright, men; let's start our maintenance check" said the stormtrooper captain "You know the procedure, split off into groups of two" The stormtrooper captain stood by the door while the rest of the squad split off into groups of two and set off in different directions.
"Oh dear!" exclaimed Vari quietly as he slinked down from the crates and rushed off out of sight "Oh dear! I've got to find them!"
Meanwhile
"So, how did you two meet?" asked Ahsoka.
"He saved my life from a group of Sand People" replied Luke "
"Sand People?" said Ahsoka "From Tatooine?"
"Yes, that's where I grew up" said Luke "At the time, he was disguised as an old hermit and went by the alias of "Ben Kenobi". I had no idea he was a Jedi until he revealed himself to be one. He took me back to his hut where he told me about the Clone Wars and about what happened to the Jedi. I guess this was when I figured out that our meeting wasn't by chance"
"How so?" asked Ahsoka.
"Growing up, I never knew my parents" replied Luke "I was told that my father was a navigator on a spice freighter and that he had died not long before I was born. I never knew how much of that was true, but I still believed it since I didn't have much else to go on. However; when I met Obi-Wan, he revealed the truth…my father was a Jedi Knight who fought in the Clone Wars alongside him"
"Really!?" said Ahsoka.
"He told me about the Force and that I was strong with it, like my father was" said Luke "He hid himself not far from where I lived so he could watch over and protect me and then one day train me to become a Jedi. He gave me that lightsaber, it belonged to my father—" It was then that Ahsoka shot up from where she was sitting.
"Your father!" exclaimed Ahsoka "You mean to tell me that Anakin Skywalker was your father!?"
"Yes, he was" replied Luke as he stood up to face her "Did you know him?" Before Ahsoka could answer, Vari rushed up to them.
"Quickly, quickly; we have to get out!" said Vari quietly.
"What is it?" asked Luke.
"Keep your voice down!" exclaimed Vari quietly "They're coming! Stormtroopers are coming!"
"Stormtroopers?" said Ahsoka.
"They're—" said Luke.
"I know what they are" said Ahsoka "The Empire's foot soldiers, I've encountered them before"
"How many did you see?" asked Luke.
"Eight, not including their captain" replied Vari "The captain is staying by the door while the others broke off into groups of two and are traversing the area"
"This is not good" said Luke.
"We may yet have the element of surprise though" said Vari "I've seen this before, it's a routine maintenance check to make sure everything's in place. They likely don't know that we're here and we can still sneak past them"
"Okay, where to from here?" said Ahsoka.
"Vari, get Ahsoka out of here" said Luke.
"What?!" said Ahsoka "I can help; believe it or not, I can still hold my own in a fight"
"I have no doubt about that" said Luke "But this is my mission, I cannot risk anyone else's lives"
"I know that; if you're on a mission, you feel responsible for everyone else involve" said Ahsoka "But you'll have an easier time if you had someone else to back you up"
"Obi-Wan wanted me to find you for a reason; I don't know what it is yet, but I'll make sure you get out of here safely first" said Luke.
"Believe me; if Obi-Wan sent you to find me, it's because he wants me to help you" said Ahsoka as she handed Luke his lightsaber "Please, we can do this together if you let me" Luke thought about what she had just said and realized she had a point, especially since she was once a Jedi and seemed to have more experience than he did.
"Alright, but you'll need a weapon" said Luke "I have only one lightsaber" Ahsoka looked down at the holster on Luke's hip.
"You're carrying a blaster" said Ahsoka.
"Huh?" said Luke as he looked down at his holster "Oh, that. I've been using my lightsaber more frequently recently, but I keep this around as a force of habit" He pulled his blaster from his holster and handed it over to Ahsoka. "Obi-Wan doesn't think much of blasters, you think you can handle it?"
"I learnt some basic skills with a blaster after I left the Order" replied Ahsoka "Enough to avoid getting killed. Now, let's get moving"
"Right!" said Luke "Vari, I know your people don't like violence; so if we end up having direct confrontation with these stormtroopers, can you keep yourself out of sight?"
"Yes, I can" replied Vari.
"Good" said Luke "Keep hidden and out of sight until we've cleared the area"
"Right!" said Vari as he leapt up onto the crates and ran off out of sight.
Meanwhile
Two stormtroopers walked through the various crates and boxes of the storage and supply room.
"Man, I hate this job!" said one of the stormtroopers "Everyone else's out there actually fighting those rebel scum while we're stuck in here doing a job that droids should be doing"
"You should be more thankful; from what I've heard, it's a bloodbath out there" said the other stormtrooper "This job may be boring, but at least we aren't being sent to our deaths for once"
"I just want some excitement, is all" said the first stormtrooper. At that moment, they came across the opened stasis pod. "Oh no…that shouldn't be opened, should it?"
"Of course not" said the second stormtrooper "That's the pod we excavated about a week ago and were told specifically to keep shut" He rushed over to the pod and stroked his fingers across it, taking note of the moist surface. "Looks like it's been opened recently"
"What!?" said the first stormtrooper.
"Stay calm" said the second stormtrooper "You contact the captain, tell him to gather the squad together here. I'll contact General Veers. Got it?" The first stormtrooper gulped.
"Uh…okay!" said the first stormtrooper.
"General, this is Squad 10 from the storage and supply room" said the second stormtrooper into his commlink "Do you read?"
Meanwhile
"What is it, Squad 10?" asked Veers into the holotable's comlink.
"Per routine, we're currently performing maintenance check duty and we've found something disturbing" replied the stormtrooper out of the holotable's comlink.
"Explain" said Veers.
"The stasis pod we uncovered has been opened and it's now empty" replied the stormtrooper.
"What!?" snarled Veers.
"Judging by its condition, it doesn't appear to have been opened that long ago though" said the stormtrooper "And since the pod can only be opened from the outside, it appears that we may have an intruder"
"How is this possible?" said Veers "I organise thorough patrols and protocols to ensure that no one gets in or out without my authorization"
"There's no other explanation to it, not unless the pod had some sort of time deactivation or something like that" replied the stormtrooper.
"Listen, trooper; it is imperative that the contents of that pod do not escape this fortress" said Veers.
"Okay, okay; just tell us what was inside it so we can find it" said the stormtrooper.
"I cannot give you information on that" replied Veers.
"And why not?" asked the stormtrooper.
"Finding and securing the pod was the ulterior objective of this occupation, the assignment was handed to me by Lord Vader himself" replied Veers.
"L-Lord Vader?" said the stormtrooper "He was the one who wanted the pod?"
"Precisely" said Veers "I was planning to inform him that we had secured the pod and were to send it to him. However; when the Rebel Alliance arrived, it complicated things. Transporting the pod offworld proved difficult with the growing number of rebel ships that entered the system, so I decided to hold off giving him our confirmation that we had obtained the pod. He has informed me that he has his hands tied at the moment and may be unable to lend assistance right now; and I guarantee you, the only thing worse than failing to obtain what Vader wants is to obtain what he wants only to lose it. I wanted to ensure the battle was won first, so no rebels could interfere with the pod's delivery"
"But do you know anything about what was inside the pod?" asked the second stormtrooper.
"Lord Vader was very vague about the details" replied Veers "I tried getting more information from him, but he would only tell me that it was something he was looking for and that it had to be brought back to him in perfect condition. I wanted to ask more, but you do not get far under Vader's command if you question his commands too much"
"So how are supposed to find it if we don't even know what was inside it?" asked the second stormtrooper.
"From what I could make, the contents of the pod appeared to be humanoid in shape" replied Veers "And if Lord Vader wants it, that must mean it's special"
Meanwhile
"I will send backup to you shortly to help find and capture what was in the pod as well as any potential intruders" said Veers out of the second stormtrooper's comlink.
"Thank you, general" said the second stormtrooper into his comlink.
"Remember; whatever it is, it needs to be brought back alive and undamaged" said Veers "If you fail either of those, I may have to give you a special mention in my report to Lord Vader"
"I'll…bear that mind" said the second stormtrooper.
"Oh man, oh man!" shuddered the first stormtrooper "This is not good, this is not good!"
"I thought you wanted more excitement" said the second stormtrooper.
"Not this kind of excitement!" said the first stormtrooper "I overheard you; if Lord Vader finds out about this, we're doomed! We don't even know what was in that thing"
"See, this is why you never get assigned to the battlefield" said the second stormtrooper.
"That's a good point" said a voice. The two stormtroopers turned to see Luke and Ahsoka standing before them.
"What the!" exclaimed the second stormtrooper as he and the other stormtrooper raised their blasters towards them "Where did you come—" Luke and Ahsoka extended their hands out and force-pushed the two stormtroopers into a nearby crate.
Meanwhile
"This has gone on long enough, Captain Solo" said the stormtrooper commander "Just surrender already and be done with it"
"I'm not done yet" smirked Han.
"Very funny" said the stormtrooper commander "Now, just surrender and maybe the general will feel some mercy towards you" Suddenly, a proton torpedo shot down and blasted the AT-ST. "Huh!?" A group of T-65 X-wing starfighters flew past them. "Rebel fighters! What's going on?" The flaming remains of the AT-ST stumbled around a little before finally collapsing on top of one of the 2-M hover tanks and destroyed it. Seizing the opportunity, Han shot the blaster out of the stormtrooper commander's hand before rushing up and knocking him over.
"The cavalry's coming in!" smirked Han. He soon found himself looking up at the barrel of the remaining 2-M hover tank that had turned towards him. "Oh, too soon?" As the tank charged up its cannons, it was suddenly blasted from behind by an unknown attacker. The smoke from the tank's wreckage was so thick that it prevented anything in front of it from seeing what lay behind it, but a familiar roar was all Han needed to know who had shot the tank down. "Chewie!"
"Did I arrive too late?" said a voice out of Han's comlink.
"Better late than never, Wedge" said Han into his comlink "What took you?"
"Traversing a war-torn planet can be difficult, especially since we were escorting the reinforcements you asked for" replied Wedge. Han looked over at the rebel outpost's platform and saw that a GR-75 medium transport had landed and was unloading Rebel Armored Assault Tanks as well as more rebel soldiers.
"Wedge, you anooba!" smirked Han "The admiral came through after all!" He turned towards the downed stormtrooper commander, pinned him down by the chest with his foot, and pointed his blaster at his face. "Now, shall we discuss your surrender?"
Meanwhile
Luke and Ahsoka tied up the two stormtroopers and placed them within a nearby crate, leaving the lid slightly open so they could still breathe.
"We could easily finish them" said Ahsoka.
"True, but they're defenceless opponents now" said Luke "We'll just have to make sure they don't go anywhere"
"And since we took their comm devices, they can't alert anyone else" said Ahsoka.
"For someone who claims not be a Jedi anymore, you seem pretty good with the Force" said Luke
"I tried leaving the Force behind along with the Jedi, but I just couldn't" said Ahsoka "I had been with it for so long that giving it up was difficult; and when the Empire took over, I knew I had to use it to stay alert. So, I stayed in touch with it out of necessity; I still wouldn't call myself top notch though, just as a head's up"
"I wouldn't call myself top notch either, but I've managed to pick up a trick or two in Obi-Wan's absence" said Luke. He turned towards the pod and walked over to it. "Looks like they were examining this"
"They seemed to have alerted someone as well" said Ahsoka "I heard something about "backup", which can't be good at all"
"If we're careful and can stay hidden, we might stand a chance" said Luke.
"You two, freeze!" said a voice. Luke and Ahsoka turned around to see that the stormtrooper captain and the rest of his squad were standing before them with their blasters drawn. "Get away from that pod!"
"There goes the element of surprise" said Luke quietly.
"I said: get away from that pod!" said the stormtrooper captain "And put your hands up where we can see them!" Luke and Ahsoka stepped away from the pod and put their hands behind their heads.
"Listen, we don't have to—" said Luke.
"Don't try to sweet talk your way out of this!" said the stormtrooper captain "We have our orders to arrest any and all intruders and question them. Now, drop those weapons and roll them over to us"
"What if we refuse?" asked Ahsoka.
"Then we'll just have to take you in…by force!" replied the stormtrooper captain. At that moment, five Imperial riot troopers leapt up onto the crates that surrounded them and activated their electrostaffs.
"That's bad, right?" said Ahsoka quietly.
"Yep, that's bad" said Luke quietly.
"Surrender your weapons now and come with us!" said the stormtrooper captain "Resistance will be met with harsh consequences!"
"Wait, what's that on his belt?!" exclaimed one of the stormtroopers as he pointed to the lightsaber on Luke's belt. Luke examined his surroundings carefully and made sure that Vari was out of the way.
"Ahsoka, I'm about to do something very, very risky" said Luke quietly "You don't have a lightsaber currently; so when I take action, get behind me and try to take cover"
"Got it" said Ahsoka quietly.
"While they're distracted and confused, we'll try to move back into another area so it's harder for them to overwhelm us" said Luke quietly.
"Answer the trooper's question!" snapped the stormtrooper captain "What is that on your…wait, that isn't—"
"Oh, this?" said Luke "Maybe you'd recognise it better if I did this with it" He pulled the lightsaber off his belt and ignited it.
"A lightsaber!" exclaimed a stormtrooper.
"Get him!" snarled the stormtrooper captain. The Imperial riot troopers leapt down from the crates and began to surround Luke and Ahsoka.
"Take cover!" said Luke.
"Blasters ready, men" said the stormtrooper captain "Aim them carefully at the targets and make sure they're set to stun" As the stormtroopers began firing stun shots towards Luke and Ahsoka, a riot trooper lunged at Luke with his electrostaff but was blocked by his lightsaber.
"You handle the stormtroopers, I've got these guys" said Luke.
"Great idea!" said Ahsoka as she hid behind a crate and began shooting down the stormtroopers with Luke's blaster.
"You are outnumbered and outmatched, Jedi" said one of the Imperial riot troopers "Stand down and do not resist arrest!"
"No!" said Luke. His fight with the riot troopers was growing more and more intense. Taking on all of them at once took a great deal of concentration and focus which meant he could only be able to evade their strikes; and while he was busy fighting them, he did not notice that one of them had slipped away from the fight and was now sneaking up behind Ahsoka while she was distracted with the stormtroopers. The riot trooper raised his electrostaff and struck it down, but Ahsoka sensed it coming and rolled aside just in time. She got herself up quickly and backed away from the riot trooper to give herself some space.
"That was a little too close for comfort" breathed Ahsoka. Luke caught notice of this and rushed over towards her.
"Ahsoka!" exclaimed Luke. Abruptly, a barrage of electrostaffs descended down upon his back and electrocuted him until he was rendered unconscious by the shock.
"Luke, no!" exclaimed Ahsoka "Get away from him!" As she rushed over to the Luke's unconscious body, the stormtrooper captain fired a stun blast at her and she collapsed alongside Luke. The stormtrooper captain then walked up to the riot troopers and looked down at the two unconscious individuals that lay at their feet.
"Is he still alive?" asked the stormtrooper captain.
"He's still breathing, so yes" replied one of the riot troopers "Merely unconscious. So is the Togruta that you stunned"
"Take them away" said the stormtrooper captain.
Author's note #1: I originally intended for this chapter to have more but I ultimately decided to cut it in half to give more time for the events to play out so it feels natural and not rushed. Get ready for the thrilling conclusion to the Battle of Mygeeto in the next chapter!
Author's note #2: The first meeting between Luke and Ahsoka is a very big moment and I wanted to portray it right; but with the time and setting I placed it in as well as the exposition that I wanted it to have, I hope it was portrayed well and didn't feel forced. There are some things I'll be saving for later when Ahsoka feels more up to it, but any suggestions on how to improve the conversation between them in this chapter would be much appreciated.
Hellman76: I intend to have many characters in my series, including the ones from my previous series. But I don't want to give away any spoilers for my long-term plans if that's okay.
CT7567Rules: I took a leave of absence from this site due to lots of things happening in my life that brought me down and made writing difficult. During that time, I began to self-reflect a lot and re-evaluate things which eventually brought me back to this site. It's good to be back now and it's nice to see you again, I hope you enjoy my revamped series!
DarklighterUSA: Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you're enjoying the story so far. As for Luke and Ahsoka; without giving too much away, yes that's basically the direction I'm hoping to take my series in ;)
Lola Jeery: Luke finding Ahsoka instead of meeting her after she's reawakened from stasis and caught up with things was one of the first things I thought of when planning my revamped series, I'm glad you like it.
