Chapter 1: Mystical Directions & Features

EXT: Frog Valley

It is early in the morning, glowing butterflies had started to come out early and shimmer throughout the air and bugs started to come out of their nests. Wasps were picking off flowers and pecking on trees with melody. From a distance, the noise of footsteps on the grass was heard with a singsong melody.

"La dee dee, la dee da! Not far from Amphibia. In a valley, with hopping frogs! Surely wish that they could talk!" Marcy sang in a singsongy voice. Marcy skipped, looking around for relics from early Amphibian time with a magnifying glass and sticky notes that stuck like slime in both of her hands.

"Alright Marcy Wu, loyal ranger studying and taking notes on local exhibits in the land of Amphibia from 2,000 years back although every day you come back with details from a relic from 1,000 years ago, it's still fine! You'll only lose your cape this time anyways as a punishment.." Marcy mumbled to herself. After Marcy mumbled to herself, she had stepped on what felt like a bone. Looking down, it happened to be a frog's skull.

"Oh, right.. bones lie around here all the time." Marcy jokingly said. "Huh, this one looks oddly curvy than most bones." Marcy then took out her protractor to measure the top of the skull.

The top of the skull was about 5 inches wide than the average frog skull. The skull seemed to have hair on the sides as well, strange… however, Marcy took note of that and continued along the trail of Frog Valley.

Suddenly, the fog started to slowly fill the air as she walked along the trail. "Ah, we're at the midpoint of the valley." Marcy thought to herself. "The fog is stronger than yesterday.."

While she was taking her journey around the remains of Frog Valley, she started to gain the feeling of boredom. Her face had started to trail off to the side but she refused for it to happen so soon. She slapped herself. "No! Don't drift off into sleep just yet Marcy, you can do it back at Wartwood." She thought to herself.

Marcy then continued on the trail. After a few minutes of trial and error, She saw the number of relics to take note of. "Jackpot!" She shouted, rushing towards the relics. Unfortunately, when she rushed towards the relics, she noticed how they were all some of the same relics she last discovered. "Great, just my luck." She scoffed. "At least I found one slightly different one. I doubt that would be worthy of showing King Andrias.." She grabbed the relic and studied it from its looks.

"Hmm.. a Lady Mantodea egg. A slightly different color than the masculine Mantodea eggs." Marcy commented, writing it down in her book. "If I can get a sample of the slime to see if it's still alive then I could…"

Suddenly, she heard that somebody was calling her name from a distance. She started at the fog, where she could hear the sound coming from. One of her friends from Wartwood's Orphanage had started to follow Marcy along in the journey but had fallen behind. "Marcy! Wait up!" They had begged.

"Wait.. is that?"

Finally, they caught up with Marcy and hugged her tighter than ever. "Marcy, why did you leave me behind?" The boy asked.

"Oh my gosh, what are you doing here?" Marcy had ignored his question and began to get worried. "You're not supposed to be out here." "I came to come along with you.." The boy replied

Marcy then stuttered, she didn't know what to say about that. "N-no I… I'm not supposed to be out, I mean… YOU'RE not supposed to be out here! You're too young to be out here in Frog Valley! You're supposed to be at Wartwood."

At this point she didn't know what to do, take him back to the orphanage and be awaited by King Andrias's wrath? Or take the boy with him along the journey. She knew that the boy had been wanting to become a ranger like her but she knew that this journey would be too scary for him to handle.

"Ughh, okay you can come... But you have to stay by my side, I don't want you getting hurt!" Marcy insisted, sounding worried about her decision. The boy was excited and hopped onto Marcy's back. "And I mean it. If you get hurt I'm not letting you come along with me ever again after this. Even if you don't get hurt!" Marcy ranted.

"Okay okay.~" The boy teased.

And so Marcy and the boy continued with their travels. Staying together at all costs.

EXT. Frog Valley Fields

A few minutes later, the journey had started to get boring once again. Marcy was tired than she was from the start, but she still tried to stay awake and prepared. "Alright Mike, so the first thing you want to do while hunting for that good ol' research is to look at this relic for example," Marcy said, holding up a frozen cockroach. "You want to get a good look at its features. For example, this cockroach seems to have a patterned shell or that this cockroach has tinier legs." After Marcy said that, he looked at where Mike was noticing that he was gone. She screamed.

"MIKE! WHERE ARE YOU?! I TOLD YOU NOT TO" Marcy said, but had been immediately interrupted by groans. Along with the groans from Mike had sounded like the moans of a whale.

"Where's that sound coming from?"

Marcy thought to herself.

Marcy had looked everywhere, but no sight of Mike or where the noise could've been coming from. Suddenly, she had noticed that Mike was on the floor, forehead covered with almost dry-out blood. Marcy was shocked, frightened, but astonished that she found a wild peacock.

Although Marcy was astonished, she still needed to save Mike somehow without getting hurt herself. "HEY! Get away from Mike!" Marcy shouted. The peacock didn't hear Marcy. Mike had then started to cry, knowing that they were probably about to get eaten by the wild peacock. Marcy then started to sweat.

The peacock was getting closer and closer to Mike's head. It sniffed around him, smelling if there was flesh, meat, or anything to dig into. The peacock started to get even closer to its head, ready to eat him alive.

Suddenly, a loud horn noise came from Marcy's direction. Marcy had pulled out a tiny Heron's horn from her pocket and blew it immediately. Heron's horns are known to be tiny, but loud just like the heron at the baby's size.

"Hah! That'll show… them.." Marcy stuttered uncertainty. The peacock had then started slowly to approach Marcy. Marcy gulped, she got more uncertain about her "heroic" plan.

"I think it's time to… RUN!" Marcy shouted and started to run as fast as she could go. The wild peacock had then started to chase her down. As she ran away, she started to have hopes about this plan.

"This is insane! I didn't think it would come to—" Marcy shouted. But immediately interrupted, she was hit by the tail of another peacock, sending her far into the cave nearby the ground with full force. After violently hitting back first into the ground of the cave, she wasn't able to move. "Ow owe owee.." Marcy groaned.

Although she was in pain from the attack, she was able to get back up slowly but almost quickly enough for the monster to arrive. After Marcy got up, she tried to speed walk away but kept on limping. The wild peacocks started to get closer and closer every limp. Marcy looked behind her noticing that the peacocks were about to eat her alive. Marcy then started to worry and quiver in fear. She covered her head, hoping they would go away.

Suddenly a flash of light had blinded the peacocks, making them screech and run away in fear. Marcy then looked up and noticed they were both gone. She sighed in relief. "What?…"

To make sure she wasn't just daydreaming, she rubbed her eyes 2 times. "Wow, I'm not dreaming," Marcy said in relief.

"Huh, but why did they fly away?…" Marcy thought to herself. Marcy then stood up and looked at the darkness that the cave brought. Marcy then lit a torch and headed into the dark.

As Marcy walked through the cave, she was delighted by the number of crystals there were. "Wow! Pink, turquoise, red, violet crystals are everywhere! I, HAVE to take notes of this." Marcy exclaimed. "I wonder if there are anymore… crystals.." Marcy mumbled to herself. As she said that she looked across the cave, to notice the pretty view of it. There were crystals, mushrooms, odonates, and bats everywhere.

Marcy then used her crossbow to soar to the bottom of the cave safely to explore more of the surroundings. Marcy was delighted to see all of the newer relics and materials. With the newer materials, she could make worthy potions for her travels. Marcy went to one of the mushrooms, slowly and carefully cut a piece, and put it in her backpack. Suddenly, she heard a glowing noise come from behind her. Was it the mushroom?

She looked behind her to see that a blue light that was hard to see. She decided to follow it to see where it led to. After Marcy decided to follow it, the light started to get brighter and brighter. "M-my eyes.." Marcy said. She put her arms across her eyes and decided to run forward until the light went away.

Marcy had then tripped over a crystal. She groaned after spraining her knee. But then she noticed that the light has dimmed down and she was outside below a waterfall. "Huh?.." She mumbled. "I'm outside?.."

Marcy looked around a bit to notice the view of the place, suddenly she noticed that there was a person, lying down on the grass, knocked unconscious. Could've it have been Mike? This was a situation that Marcy needed to explore further.

"Oh jeez oh jeez, Mike is that you?.." Marcy panicked. As soon as she got closer to the body, she noticed that it wasn't Mike, not even close. Marcy sat down on the floor and crawled towards the body to get a closer look.

"What the…" Marcy mumbled. As soon as she got closer she decided to check out the body, Marcy then put on some fabric gloves from her pockets. She had first decided to feel the weight of their arms, making sure that she wasn't a creature. As she looked down their arms she noticed that both of their hands were robotic. She nodded, agreeing to what she said in her head.

She then went down to her legs, feeling the weight of her legs. They seemed, heavy. Not the average type of heavy most human legs are. After that she looked at the body's face, it seemed very hard like metal. No bumps, pimples, or freckles. Must be painful to fall onto.

"This person is definitely NOT human!" Marcy exclaimed. She jumped in the air in excitement, this was the biggest discovery she's done yet! "Wait, why am I so excited about this?! This person's unconscious and all I've been doing is fiddling with her arms, legs, and face!" She thought to herself.

"Okay so, robotic hands, body temperature is cold, arms and legs are heavier than the normal weight of the human body," Marcy said out loud while writing it down in her notes. "This can only mean that this person's a robot but, that's impossible! Intriguing and outstanding, but impossible for sure!"

"I need to bring this in with King Andrias.." Marcy exclaimed. "Wait… but he'd never allow us to bring in anything like this.." Marcy thought for a bit, walking around the body. "Aha, maybe I could bring it in secretly without King Andrias or any of the leaders noticing." Marcy thought. "That way I can study on it more tonight with a few others! Yes, you've done it again Marcy Wu! The loyal ranger studying and taking notes on local exhibits in the land of Amphibia from 2,000 years back has finally leveled up!"

EXT. Wartwood Swamp Inn

It is about nighttime, everybody at Wartwood Swamp is falling asleep and everybody at Wartwood Swamp's Inn is eating their dinner before bedtime. Everyone there is chatting, laughing, eating, and having fun while the leaders take the watch in the diner area of the inn. While everybody is eating, Marcy struggles to bring in the body from earlier.

"Alright, so how am I supposed to get this done without getting caught.." Marcy thought. "There should be an entry in the back of the inn but that would be too easy and… eye-catching." Marcy had looked around the inn from the bushes to see if there was anywhere they could go. "Aha, is the chimney possible? No that would be eye-catching too…" Marcy groaned.

"Need any help?"

Marcy looked at the person who said that, it seemed to be one of the younger residents at the inn. Marcy gasped, it was one of her friends she made at the inn. She then thought of all the ways that he could sabotage her current issue. "Ah! Malcolm. Aren't you supposed to be at the inn?.." Marcy stuttered, afraid that he would find out what's up. "The same goes for you," Malcolm replied, jokingly.

"Well, I'm just.. taking out the.. trash!" Marcy stuttered. "With this conveniently heavy bag." She tried to hide the bag behind her back. "Then why are you hiding behind the bushes and acting weird?.." Malcolm asked. "This isn't something that you do normally anyway."

Marcy sighed, she couldn't come up with any more excuses. All she could do was tell the truth. "Okay look…" She continued. "I was looking for relics, right? And while I was looking I fought these super awesome peacocks and then I ended up in a cave went deeper and found this person who I really really, REALLY need to study about!" Marcy rambled on.

"H-hey! Calm down…" Malcolm snickered. "I think I can help out with that." Marcy gasped, she then got excited and started to spin around. "Thank you so much! I thought you weren't going to for a second!" Marcy exclaimed and hugged Malcolm.

"Alright, what's the plan, Mal?" Marcy cheered.

"Well, I'd suggest sneaking in through the here…" Malcolm whispered as he jumped into a hole.

Marcy was astonished, but also uncertain. She jumped down the hole anyways, regretting her decision a tiny bit. As she jumped down the hole there was glass surrounding Marcy. Behind the glass were slimy creatures making weird noises.

"Uhmm, are you sure about this?.." Marcy asked.

"I've been down here a few times," Malcolm replied.

"A-A few?!" Marcy shouted.

Malcolm chuckled. "Just kidding, I've been down here plenty of times for me to show you the ropes." Marcy sighed in relief. As they walked together through what seemed like a tunnel of glass, Marcy gained the feeling of disturbance while starting at the slimy creatures.

"H-Hey! To pass the time.. is there any information on these… slimy things?.." Marcy asked nervously.

"Oh yeah, legends say these things used to be children and that they were cursed by some candyman. They couldn't find the cure to the curse so it began to worsen every day." Malcolm replied. "Their last day was normally the day they were cursed, then they were turned into these things."

"Last day?.." Marcy thought. "Is there anything else about this that you know about?"

"Oh, that's… the only thing I know about these guys from studying," Malcolm admitted. "I don't really know anything else about this little guys." He said, touching the window as if he was touching the slimy creature's nose.

As they continued to walk through the tunnel, they were at the end and were accompanied by a ladder back up into the inn. "Ah, we must be here!" Malcolm exclaimed. Marcy had gotten all jittery and excited. "You ready?" Malcolm asked, but had noticed that she was already rushing up the ladder and chuckled.

"Oh, hey Malcolm."

Malcolm looked at Marcy, confused.

"Thank you, this was my biggest discovery yet!" Marcy exclaimed.

Malcolm smiled, he was proud of himself for making his friend happy.

"Oh and Malcolm, I could really need some help on… ya know, turning this guy on." Marcy begged.

Malcolm chuckled. "Sure thing!"

After the conversation ended, they had both headed up the ladder and into the hallway of the inn.

INT. Marcy's Room

As Malcolm and Marcy were in her room. They were preparing to awaken the person from the cave with special equipment borrowed from the Inn's basement. Marcy, who felt excited as ever while Malcolm, felt uncertain.

"Couldn't we just poke them till they wake up?" Malcolm asked.

"Malcolm, if we did that we'd be waiting for a century. If we used the special equipment they'd wake up in a second right? Besides, when I found them they were unconscious, so I doubt that poking them would do anything.." Marcy rambled. "Sorry if I sound rude, I'm just so so excited!"

"This seems, extremely… dangerous," Malcolm mumbled. "Guess we could give it a shot…"

"Alright, anyways… What seems more suitable to wake them up.." Marcy mumbled. Marcy had picked up a feather and a tissue, she then realized that these were the wrong materials.

"Dang it! These aren't the right ones we need!" Marcy complained. "We're going to need to go back and get the right ones."

"Marcy wait, this could work," Malcolm advised. "Does this, thing have a nose?.." Malcolm asked. Marcy nodded. "Are you gonna try and… tickle her or something?" Marcy asked. Malcolm shrugged. "I guess, that's why we have the feather for right?…"

"No no.. that seems too disturbing," Marcy complained. "This is why we needed those… things!"

As they both continued to slightly argue, a slow and steady rustling noise came from the person. They had tilted their head and shimmied slightly on the chair. Both Malcolm and Marcy gasped. "It's awake!" They whispered. "Quick give me the feather," Marcy asked.

Quietly, Marcy reached for the feather and pointed it at the person in the chair. She then started to brush it around their cheeks, hoping that they would slightly, open their eyes.

After a few minutes, Marcy began to get tired from waving their arm around. "Well, I guess it was just a reflex." Marcy sighed.

Marcy turned to where Malcolm should've been, but Malcolm had already left the room to go to bed. Marcy had then began to lose hope. She sighed. "What if they never wake up…" She thought. "Did I just bring them in for no reason? Did I bring them in just to improve my rank as a loyal ranger?" She continued to question why she brought them in. As she lost hope, she stood up and decided to walk away.

Suddenly, the person had started to groan. Waking up slowly, looking like they were in a state of sleep paralysis. Marcy turned around as she heard the groaning noises coming from the person. The person didn't speak, all they did was start to look around. But Marcy was astonished.

"Oh, my frog…" Marcy mumbled.

Marcy had started to spin around the room whispering "Yes yes yes!" to herself to not to cause any ruckus.

"Oh my gosh I finally did it! I, FINALLY WOKE YOU UP." Marcy exclaimed. The person just started at Marcy with no emotion, only a blank expression. "I have so many questions I need to ask you! Marcy said grabbing the person's robotic arms. "What's your name? Where did you come from before I found you outside the cave? Did the blue lights come from you? HOW DID YOU GET THOSE ROBOTIC ARMS?!" Marcy rambled off in excitement.

The person continued to stare at them.

"Wait, they're going to be overwhelmed if I ask them a bunch of stuff.." Marcy thought.

"Oh right! Hi! I'm Marcy, Marcy Wu!" Marcy introduced herself, point out her hand for a handshake. "We met outside the cave, remember?"

The person continued to stare at them.

"I don't mean to interrupt you but…" The person said. Marcy stared at the person in silence. "Oh my gosh, it spoke." Marcy mumbled. "Umm, where am I?.." The person asked, slightly confused. "Oh! You're in my room." Marcy replied with a jolly tone.

"It kinda looks weird, but that's only because it's an old room, not a new and clean one like the others I swear," Marcy admitted.

"Hey! By the way, what's your name? Do you know?" Marcy continued. The person thought for a bit, but then they shook their head. "Do you remember…anything?" Marcy asked. The person shook their head again.

"All I remember is that… I'm some kind of robot…" They said. Marcy stared at the person in silence once again. "You're a robot!" Marcy said, shaking the person in excitement.

"Okay, you don't have a name, you don't remember anything… and you confirmed to be a robot," Marcy mumbled. "You although, seem to have bushy hair, a gray metal chest plate, a nose and normal arms and legs but two robotic arms.." She wrote this all down in her notes for research. This seemed to all come together.

"Whoever you were created by must've programmed you to look like a human…" Marcy muttered. Plucking out the leaves out of the person's hair. The person was confused by the term human. "Oh, don't worry. Human is just what I am." Marcy admitted jokingly.

"Hey, take a look for me in this mirror. Maybe it will, somehow jog your memory!" Marcy chuckled, the idea would probably not work but she had fate in it.

The person looked at the mirror. From the mirror's reflection, they saw that their face had a robotic trail coming from the forehead coming down to the bottom of their face.

"Any luck?…" Marcy stuttered, nervously chuckling. "Oh forget it, this isn't gonna help you," Marcy mumbled, putting the mirror away. The person had no clue at all what was going on.

Marcy sighed. "Well, Anne. I want you to stay here at least until morning, I don't want you or me to get in trouble with King Andrias." Anne looked up at Marcy. "A-And?" Anne stuttered, trying to pronounce their name. "An.. and... Annie.."

"Oh! Yeah, that's your new name." Marcy chuckled. "I think it suits you after all." Anne looked at Marcy, attempting to smile but her muscle wouldn't let her. Marcy looked at her, giggling. "Are you trying to smile?" Marcy assumed.

Marcy came up and leaned down to Anne while she was still sitting on the chair. "Here like this." Marcy smiled, giving a example to help Anne smile. "Now you go," Marcy instructed.

Anne stared at Marcy with a blank expression. Awkward silence had started to fill up the air. "Fair enough!" Marcy snickered.

Marcy went to find a blanket in her room to hide Anne from being seen. As she found a red blanket with white strips, she put it above Anne and the chair. "Alright Anne, try and fall asleep now. Don't stay awake all night!" Marcy exclaimed. "Goodnight!"

As Marcy put the blanket above Anne and the chair. She headed up to her bed to fall asleep, proud of what she's discovered today. Even if Anne and Marcy were two different species, that wouldn't stop them from starting a friendship that would last for eternity.
