Calling people to and fro
Asking personal questions
Like those telephone surveyors
Who are taking down all you know
What would you say to Him?
Would you hang up before he says hello?
If God were on the phone
He'd already know everything
But still ask those questions
In order for you to see
There's things he'd like you to do
Like answer those questions in your own words
What would you do if He asked you to speak
To that stranger you hardly know on the street
With their mugs held out and their faces a mess
Would you do so to relieve their stress?
If God were calling you
From the back of your mind
Would you listen to that still voice
Or would you rather leave it behind?
What will you do if God says to you one day
"I love you tell that friend of yours I love her the same?"
If God were trying to get to your heart
By just speaking words through the hearing part
Of your lost, lonely, beating blue heart?
If God wanted to just say "Hey I love you so,"
Would you turn Him away
Or would you never let Him go?
What would you do if God were on the phone?
Author's Note I used to work as a telephone interviewer and it always bugged me when I either recieved a "not in service" dial tone or if someone just didn't want to take the survey. I got inspired to write this out because I thought, hey what if God were on the phone? He'd probably have more savviness of course but still, the idea that He would probably get more refusals is quite inspiring. Telephone surveyors work really hard just to let you know. It got quite frustrating within the first few weeks because I couldn't get any surveys right away.
