He wasn't real.
That's what I keep telling myself.
He wasn't real.
He wasn't even human. He had no interest in me for anything other than survival. He looked the way I wanted him to look, he said the things I wanted to hear, he acted the way I wanted him to act. He was a fantasy, and I fell for it.
And now everything's back to normal. I am treated with friendly disregard. I am an officer on the ship, and that's it. I'm not a woman, I'm just another face.
I don't really mind. Not anymore.
And yet-
And yet I remember how he spoke my language. I remember how he sought me out for company. I remember how deep his eyes were.
He wasn't real. He wasn't even human. He was a fantasy, and I fell for it.
And yet-
And yet, for one conversation, I wasn't alone.
