"My only regret is that our good friend Sabrina Spellman couldn't join us for this trip," Cherry said before they sat down. "Though I'm sure we'll at least see her again soon as after we found each other after 20 years have passed that we'll keep in touch a lot better than after she disappeared with her one true love, Harvey Kinkle, and married him instead of that doofus Aaron Jacobs."
"Still not a fan of Aaron, huh, Cherry?" Atticus asked.
"Are you kidding me?" Cherry scoffed. "I don't think anybody even liked him, especially Hilda, Zelda, or Drell and they were just pretending to like him so they wouldn't upset Sabrina."
Lionel nodded in agreement. "But, enough of that. Now let's get this feast started!" he declared.
"I guess your decision to stay here wasn't as hard as I thought." Whitmore said to Milo on the way inside.
"Save my life!" Mole cried out as the women chased him.
The others sighed and shook their heads at Mole as they got settled together.
"Let's eat these... Uh... Rather... Interesting meals." Cherry advised.
The others jeered and soon sat down to eat up together.
"You must try some of this." Mrs. Packard suggested.
"Delicious~" Sweet added.
"It's great to see you all again." Milo said to his friends.
"Magnifique," Whitmore beamed as he helpd himself. "Trust me, this is great."
Irwin looked unsure about eating some of the food, though Otika ate with much gusto, so he found the bravery to try out the food before he found himself enjoying it with her.
"Not bad." Mole nodded.
"I think I need honey mustard or something." Cherry suggested.
"Maybe I could be of some service? Pepper sauce. Never leave home without it," Cookie offered as he took out a bottle and soon patted on it. "Puts a little giddy-up in every meal. Also makes a fine paint remover." he then added sheepishly as he saw the sauce got all over Sweet and Audrey by accident.
"Uh, Sweet, I think this food just moved." Audrey noted as she looked at her plate nervously.
"Then you better eat it quick before it gets away. Besides, when it's alive, you don't have to swallow so hard," Sweet suggested as he took out what looked like a moving grub. "Just point them head first so they know which way to crawl."
Estelle and Mo began to look horrified at the moving food before they both brought out their own vegetarian options to share with the family as Thanksgiving was all about sharing with friends and family after all.
"Your grandfather would be proud of you, Milo," said Whitmore. "You not only discovered a lost empire, you probably saved the world from Rourke's plans for the crystal! And now you're helping restore Atlantis to its former glory. That's quite a resume for a cartographer."
"I just wish he could be here to see all this..." said Milo, before clutching hands with his beloved. "...And to meet Kida."
Otika waved her hand in the air.
"And of course, Otika too." Milo chuckled as he patted his daughter on her head.
The others smirked a bit with Milo and Kida's relationship, looking a little playful though.
"Yeah, well, it's great to see everybody together again, but something tells me it's not just for a little reunion." Milo smiled bashfully, then warmly all around the others.
"Uh, I'm afraid you're right," Whitmore replied. "There's trouble on the surface. I already had my doctor, digger, demolition expert, mechanic. Each the top of their field, but I came here for the one expert I didn't have: an expert on Atlantis, not to mention some adventurous friends of ours."
"Guess you mean us," Mo replied. "But why would you need us-" she then started.
"Several cargo ships have gone down in the North Atlantic," Whitmore informed. "The survivors say it was a sea monster."
"A sea monster?" Cherry asked. "I'm both doubtful and not surprised something like that is going on."
"Then I guess we'll hafta check it out for ourselves," said Lionel. "See what's causing all this mayhem, and put a stop to it."
"We thought it might be the watchdog at your front door." Sweet then told Milo.
"The Leviathan?" Kida asked.
"Right. That's one big sea monster. In the water, that's the last thing you wanna see," Vinny nodded. "Except, maybe, my Aunt Rose in a swimsuit. Sweet woman, but very large-boned."
"Good to know." Atticus shrugged.
"I'm glad it knew we were friends this time." Audrey then said.
"But there could be others out there," Kida suggested. "My father had many such machines created. He used the magic and science of the crystal to expand the borders of Atlantis. That war nearly destroyed the world."
"Well, it looks like his war may not be over." Whitmore then said.
"Then Milo and I will go with you to the surface and end it." Kida volunteered.
"Kida, you can't. I mean, you're the queen." Milo disagreed.
"The city repairs are well underway," Kida replied. "The counselors can handle the everyday matters. And I feel responsible for what my father did. I want to understand his decision. And I am afraid the answers are not in Atlantis. The children should probably stay here for their own safety." she then suggested.
"Aw, come on!" Akito replied as he stood up. "We've faced even worse dangers like Mom, Dad, Aunt Cherry, and Uncle Lionel faced all the time before we were born! We can do this too! And so can Emi, Jenny, and Lee! Especially Emi and Lee from what I've seen." he then added with a small smirk, winking to both.
"He's got a point," replied LJ. "We're more than capable of fending off any danger that might come our way!"
"I'm not sure if it's a good idea for the children to get involved like this." Kida frowned softly.
"Mother, you can trust them," Otika said as she put her hands together in a begging position. "They are the children of your and Father's most trusted allies and the adventure you had together before I was born. I have also seen the amazing things that my honorary cousins can do, especially the nervous boy with glasses. He's part of a special supernatural fighting team."
Irwin grinned and shrugged bashfully as he waved to Milo and Kida.
"They won't get hurt or anything bad like that," Otika replied. "And I can fight just fine on my own with training from my bodyguard, Tomocomo. Please let us join you."
Kida looked over, seeing that her daughter had the same adventurous determination in her eyes as she once did, along with Milo and their special friends before she sighed in defeat. "...Very well then," she soon accepted. "You and your young friends may come along, but you should just know that this is very serious business. You could get hurt or worse, I just hope that you realize that."'
"We do, Mother," Otika reassured. "And we can look after ourselves as needed."
"Yeah!" LJ nodded firmly. "We've got plenty of fight in us!"
"All right..." Kida soon allowed. "You may come along, but remember what I said."
"We will!" The kids promised as they all looked as brave as they could.
Kida smiled at the confidence as that helped just a little bit.
And so, they bundled up warmly and boarded a ship as Jenny took out her camera and began to take pictures... As well as she could anyway as it was rather foggy so far on deck.
"Not bad, but I always got a better view off of The S.S. Tipton," Jenny told the others as she continued to snap her camera about. "My parents are good friends with the owner of The Tipton Hotel, Wilfred Tipton."
"Somehow, I'm not surprised." Zofia smirked, almost sardonically.
"...'Wilfred'?" LJ repeated, nonplussed.
"Yes, that's Mr. Tipton's first name..." Jenny stated plainly.
"Sorry, I'm just having trouble processing that." LJ replied.
Jenny shrugged and she soon went back to taking her pictures.
"Just remember not to show too many of those back in New York." Vincent advised.
"Don't worry, Vincent, I won't." Jenny reassured.
Oliver soon smiled as he came to her side as they got settled on deck.
"I feel bad," Milo said to Kida as they explored. "You finally get to the surface and it's so cloudy, there's nothing to see."
"Everything in your world is new to me," Kida said before she saw a floating ring and took it off the hook, looking into it curiously. "The sky, the clouds, everything on the ship. What is this?" she then asked.
"That's a life preserver." Milo explained.
"So you wear it and it preserves your life," Kida guessed as she had him wear it around his shoulders. "Like our crystals?"
"No, no. You throw it to someone in the water." Milo shook his head as he took it off.
"Oh, so it is a game?" Kida then asked.
"No. You only throw it if someone is drowning." Milo explained as he put it back.
"Does that not make it hard for them to play the game?" Kida then asked with a frown.
"Oh, Kida..." Cherry sighed and shook her head.
Lionel chuckled again. "The more things change, I suppose." he remarked.
"Anyways, let's head on up to the surface," declared Akito. "Adventure awaits!"
"Come, let's meet with the others then." Cherry advised.
The others nodded as they soon followed inside.
"C'mon, Oliver." Jenny smiled at her cat as they went in and she put her camera away.
Audrey was shown to be working with her tools as Obby wagged his tail and got settled. Otika walked by Obby and petted him on the head, looking quite excited about her brand new adventure with her friends.
"Two weeks we crisscross the North Sea and get nothing," Vinny complained as he held an unlit stick of dynamite. "No squids, no jellyfish, and no lobster from Atlantis."
"We have to be sure, Vinny." Milo told him.
"What if raising the crystal brought this Leviathan to life?" Kida soon asked. "This could all be the fault of Atlantis."
"I'd worry more about how we fight it than who's to blame." Mo replied.
"She's right," Audrey agreed. "Last time we shot at the Leviathan, these things didn't even tickle it."
"Well, hopefully this was the fault of something else." said Lionel.
"Eh, Audrey, if you keep hitting that thing we're gonna be 'tickled' all over these walls." Vinny warned.
"Yeah, yeah," Audrey scoffed. "Like I don't know that."
"Well, careful," Vinny told her. "Doc Sweet's not here to glue us back together. This time it's my special blend. I start with a batter of gelatinous nitroglycerine, dribble it on a shaped charge of TNT, and top it with just a dusting of black powder and oregano. You can't make a bomb without oregano. It makes a very nice 'boom'. Let the lobster chew on that."
"...Uh-huh." Atticus merely nodded and shrugged.
"You know, I really don't think it is a Leviathan," Milo said as he showed a newspaper to them. "The survivor called it The Kraken, a legendary Norwegian sea monster with arms a quarter-mile long. Nothing like what we saw in Atlantis."
"But Atlantean inventors always base their designs on real animals," Kida said to him. "Like the giant squid. It may not be a Leviathan but it could still be an Atlantean war machine."
"She is right," Mole added as he ate some sandwiches as Obby looked like he wanted to take the sandwiches away from him. "No creature of flesh and blood can bring down a steel cargo ship."
"I wish you didn't say that." Cherry replied cynically.
"Then I suppose we're about to find out for ourselves!" LJ declared.
"It's a good thing I'm not seasick, yo..." Irwin shivered. "...Or else we'd have something worse than a Krakken to deal with."
There was then suddenly a loud bang that shook them all.
"Whoa! What was that?!" Irwin yelped.
"Someone taking the cargo ship if I had to guess." Cherry replied as she glared at Mole who grinned sheepishly.
"Something's got the ship!" Audrey panicked.
"It's ripping open the launch doors!" Milo added as they were all shaken up.
Mole and Obby soon chased after a piece of cheese that hopped away and ended up in the pool in the room.
"Ze cheese!" Mole yelped before a giant tentacle came out from the pool. "...You can 'ave it."
Obby yelped and scampered off as the tentacle burst inside. Otika stood protectively in front of her honorary cousins and held out her weapon of choice which was a spear and glared sharply as she looked ready to fight back if necessary.
"Get to the sub pods," Milo told the others. "Vinny, we're gonna need that thing out of the way."
"Coming up, extra oregano." Vinny nodded and soon shook up a canister before tossing it.
The tentacles began to go crazy before the canister landed in the pool with it and exploded, making the creature roar.
"Launch when ready." Milo instructed as everyone made it into their sub pods, Kida moving Otika and Obby in her arms and moving them to safety as the Schwartz and Fudo couples did the same with their own children.
"Next time, chili powder." Vinny told himself as he began to buckle up.
LJ nodded as he put on a crash helmet, just in case. They then sat in the pods protectively and cautiously as the pods launched them right into the water.
"Uh-oh... That doesn't sound good!" Milo warned as he sat in his with Kida, Obby, Irwin, and Otika.
Their launch pad tilted, but still shot them right against the floor, skidding across the pool floor and they crashed against the wall before being pushed right back into the pool's water beside them.
"It's pulling zem down on ze starboard side!" Mole warned from his pod.
"Where's Milo and Kida?" Audrey added. "I didn't see them launch. Milo, are you there? Kida?"
Milo pounded on the hull. "C'mon, c'mon... Back-up batteries, time to back up!" he groused.
Kida was soon trying to screw open the hatch.
"I'm freaking out, yo!" Irwin panicked.
Otika soon held onto him to comfort him. Irwin blushed from the hug and soon cuddled into her as she held onto him protectively.
"...Thing off my back while I look for Milo!" Audrey's voice was soon heard.
"This is Milo. We're on back-up batteries, sinking fast, no propulsion," Milo soon responded and reported. "We have a major leak-"
"Leaks." Kida corrected as she tried to get the water out of the way as Obby barked and tried to bite it.
"Leaks," Milo then added as he continued. "And the viewport is cracking."
"If the ballast valves aren't blocked, you can flush the water by rerouting the pressure tubes and-" Audrey began to advise.
"Audrey, we are up to our rear ends in water!" Milo warned. "It's no time for How-To books."
"Okay, okay. We're coming." Atticus soon added.
"Well, you'd better hurry 'cuz... We're about to hit an undersea mountain." Milo warned as he saw something coming into view.
The "mountain" soon opened up like a mouth which proved that it was not what it was thought to be.
"That is not a mountain!" Milo then realized.
"What do we do?!" Atticus cried out.
"Scream?" Cherry shrugged in a monotone voice.
"I think he meant something useful..." Lionel retorted.
"We'll get through this!" Mo spoke up. "I know we will!"
"Audrey?!" Milo cried out.
"Vinny, I think this is where you'll come in handy." Cherry suggested.
"I'm on it." Vinny nodded, sending some explosives right at the mouth to keep it from closing and eating the Thatch family along with Irwin alive.
More and more torpedos launched which blew Audrey's pod off course from the explosions.
"Watch your right dive plane!" Audrey warned.
"No problem. Vinny replied as they sorted her out together.
"That should be better, Audrey." Cherry suggested.
"Hey, uh... Where's the Kraken, yo?" Irwin asked, a bit concerned.
"It has deesappeared." Mole remarked.
Kida sighed and smiled in relief as she hugged Otika. "At least it was not Atlantean." she then said.
"Somehow, that doesn't make me feel any safer." Milo muttered weakly.
"All the more reason to find the cause!" declared Otika.
Milo patted her on the head as they rode along together. And soon, everyone met up above the water, though one sub pod looked ready to sink down below.
"The creature buckled hull plates fore and aft," A ship's captain reported as they all came out of their sub pods just above the water's surface. "We'll be lucky to get to the port for repairs. I'll send a launch for you."
"Don't worry about us, Captain. Just take care of the Atlantean," Milo replied with his comlink. "There's a fishing village to the northeast. We'll be there when you finish repairs."
Atticus and Mo soon helped Audrey get on her feet as the group met back up together.
"Whoa! That's your sub pod," Audrey soon told Milo as the sub pod soon sunk. "That's not coming out of my paycheck."
"Okay, let's get to shore as soon as we can." Vinny suggested.
"Probably a good idea." Akito nodded.
"What's the matter, Vinny?" Audrey soon smirked. "Afraid to play patty-cake with the sea monster? Ooh!"
"No. I don't mind a little patty-cake," Vinny shrugged as he went to go back under his hatch. "But I really don't wanna be here when the bombs on that sub pod hit bottom."
"Heh... Good to know." Atticus chuckled sheepishly as Milo and Audrey took off suddenly.
In the distance, on the shore, a creepy-looking man watched them in silence.
"Eugh... There's some creepy old guy staring at us." Cherry commented.
"Cherry..." Atticus sighed. "You can't just call people that."
"Oh, it's fine as long as he can't hear me." Cherry shrugged in defense.
They soon made it to shore with some help as Mole hammered down the pegs with the sub pods as Obby sat beside him.
"I guess fishing hasn't been too good lately, huh?" Vinny remarked.
"That is not surprising," Kida spoke up. "No doubt that tentacled demon devoured the local fish stocks long ago."
"Then why is it still here?" Audrey wondered.
"Because it doesn't eat fish anymore." Mo guessed as Kida nodded as that was right.
"Maybe that's why they built the village on the cliffs," Vinny said as he looked up at the cliffs to see many huts at the top. "You don't want that thing showing up for dinner."
The people inside soon shut their shutters and locked up their doors for their own protection.
"Not real friendly, are they?" Milo commented wearily.
"Not to mention, something really stinks here." Estelle grimaced.
"And it ain't just the seawater!" LJ declared firmly.
"It's like rotting fish." Audrey added as she pinched her nose.
"Why do you accuse such a thing?" Mole complained, crossing his arms as he grumbled. "I have bathed. Recently. No appreciation for fine cologne."
"Easy, Mole," Atticus replied as he observed some icky substance. "She's upwind of you. I'd say it's more likely we're smelling all this mildew." he then suggested.
"He's right," Milo agreed. "Everything is wet from the fog."
"But you do need a bath." Kida then told Mole.
Mole firmly pouted and huffed.
"Look at that." Audrey said, pointing over to a nearby sign.
"Interesting way of attracting tourists." Milo commented.
"I'd say so." Lee nodded in agreement.
"Milo, we got company." Vinny warned as the creepy old man that Cherry had discovered earlier soon appeared through the fog, looking almost like a ghost in paleness and creepiness.
"I am Edgar Volgud, the magistrate of this town," The man replied as he came to meet the group. "What is your business here?"
"Nice to meet you, my name is Milo Thatch." Milo smiled as he held out his hand to introduce himself and everybody else.
"I doubt there is anything in Krakenstadt that concerns you." Volgud interrupted crudely.
"Apart from the Kraken what tried to rip us apart? I'd say there's plenty!" Lionel remarked.
"I'd say we have every right, especially me," Atticus added. "Detective Atticus Fudo at your service."
"Yes," Kida soon added. "And what about your town pet that nearly sank our ship?"
"Your ship will be repaired at the shipyards of Trondheim," Volgud replied. "You should leave soon. The roads are treacherous after dark."
"I'm sure they can start repairs without us," Milo replied bravely. "We thought we'd stick around a while and enjoy the scenery."
"Trondheim has excellent views." Volgud then said.
"All the same, we'll stay." Cherry decided.
"Miss Allyson is the innkeeper here," Volgud informed and he soon walked off, away out of the conversation. "She'll give you rooms for the night. A driver will take you to Trondheim tomorrow."
The others soon followed him inside.
"I've seen that fellow before someplace," Vinny said to the others as they came to follow Volgud to get settled in. "I think under a rock. Reminds me of a leech, a worm. A kind of, salamander-ish..."
Obby soon ran right inside once he sensed something.
"Obby, no!" Milo cried out and warned.
Obby soon came right into the fireplace and curled up into a ball, resting in the flames.
"Uh... Is that safe for him?" Jenny asked, looking concerned with Oliver.
"He was born in molten rock." Kida reassured.
"Yeah! He's a lava dog!" LJ laughed. "That's basically like a hot tub for him! Heavy on the hot!"
"Don't you ever try that." Jenny whispered to Oliver.
"Message received." Oliver replied as he saluted his mistress with his paw.
"Wasn't Volgud that statue guy?" Audrey asked as they went to warm up by the fire.
"That would make him even older than he looks, which I gotta say is pretty darn old." Milo remarked.
"I haven't aged a day since high school." Cherry snorted a bit.
"They say he made a deal with the devil to live forever, but forgot to ask for eternal youth," A new voice said as everyone turned to see an eerie blonde woman who carried a tray of mugs in her hands. "This will drive the fog from your bones."
Everyone thanked the strange woman and began to help themselves to a warm drink.
"Thank you, Miss Allyson?" Atticus replied.
"Inger," The blonde woman stated before she continued to speak to them. "There is a darkness around Edgar Volgud and that shadow has dimmed all that was happy here. We would leave, but this inn is all we have. It is no place for me to raise my little one. Things will not change here until its power is broken." she then suggested.
"'Its'?" Milo blinked. "You mean Volgud's?"
"Or the sea monster's?" Kida added.
"I will prepare rooms for you, but do not cross Edgar Volgud, and leave as soon as you can." Inger stated as she seemed to ignore that question, heading upstairs after they took their mugs as she began to provide service for them.
"They gotta work on their tourist industry." Cherry snarked.
"Focus, guys; this goes deeper than we thought!" Lionel exclaimed. "Somehow Volgud is connected to that creepy Kraken, and we need to find out how!"
"I do believe Lionel has a point," Atticus replied. "And as a detective, I'll try to find out what's going on and of course, you guys will help out."
"Can I help too, Dad?" Akito asked hopefully. "Oh, please, please, please, can I?"
"Of course you can!" Atticus smiled.
"Yes!" Akito beamed and cheered.
The others chuckled a bit from Akito's excitement of spending time with his father like this.
"We'll play along for now, get settled, and then we'll get to work soon right after." Emi suggested.
Everyone else nodded in agreement. And that's what they did as it began to get darker outside.
