"Home Sweet Home"

An Alex/John fic set right before the beginning of "Conviction".

Author's notes: Yes, I know it's been a while since I wrote a new piece of Alex/John fan fiction (which is my specialty). But, the release of the second season on DVD and the upcoming debut of "Conviction" inspired me to start writing again. So, here is my short, slightly sappy reunion of Alex & John fiction, "Home Sweet Home". And look out for the prequel to this, "Come Away With Me".

It was a rainy night in New York and John Munch was sitting in the townhouse that he and Alex Cabot had once shared, sipping from a glass of brandy and stroking the cat they'd adopted, Hershey as he sat in the living room. Ever since he'd inherited the house from Alex, it had remained unchanged. It still looked like it did when she lived there. He hadn't been able to bring himself to change it at all. It was still like she was there, sometimes, when he was alone with his thoughts.

And then, a year or so ago, she'd come back, and begged him to come away with her. She's missed him so much and didn't want to be alone anymore. It had broken his heart to say no to her and he'd embraced her for a long time before she'd vanished again into the wind.

Now a day didn't go by without him thinking about her…even a little.

He kept wondering if he should have gone with her. Maybe they could have started a life together, gotten married…

He sighed and took another sip of the brandy. What he wouldn't give to see her again, just one more time…

Suddenly a knock at the door jolted him out of his thoughts.

He put down the brandy and Hershey escaped from her usual spot as he got up.

"Coming." He said, mostly to himself.

With a small sigh, he opened the door, wondering who it could be at this point in the evening.

Standing there, dripping wet and smiling softly, was Alexandra Cabot. Even wet, she was a vision of beauty.

"Hi, John." She said quietly. "Miss me?"

He stood there for a moment, unmoving, unable to say or do anything.

She smiled, brushing some of her wet hair out of her eyes. "Guess what? I get to come home now."

John still could not bring himself to speak.

"Can I come in?" She asked, shyly and John stepped aside to let her in. "The place looks like it did when we lived here together." She observed. "It's welcoming."

She turned back to look at him. "What is it?"

Finally, John moved.

He swept Alex into his arms and kissed her as deeply as he could.

She was surprised, but not by much. She'd been dreaming of such a moment for quite some time. She embraced him tightly, wrapping her arms around his neck, pressing him against her.

She was soaking wet and he didn't care.

"I missed you so much." She murmured against his lips.

He chuckled. "I didn't think that anyone would ever say that to me."

She pulled away and looked into his eyes, a small smile lighting up her face.

"I missed you, too." John murmured, brushing her blonde hair away from her face. "Are you home for good now?"

She nodded and he smiled.

"Well, then, welcome home, Alexandra." He murmured, pulling her to him for another kiss.

"Home sweet home." She murmured as they kissed deeply, happy to be together again.
