A/N: This is a story idea I've had for a little while. I've been toying with the idea of Jedi that were part of the Jedi Investigations team that assisted the CFS underground police surviving Order 66 just because they knew the underground areas of Coruscant so well. The majority of this story will be Law & Order style Star Wars and may continue through Order 66.
Chapter 1 - Caden Vash
The twelve year old boy sat at the edge of his bunk anxiously awaiting the summons to the council chamber. The initiate trials were difficult as he expected, but the final combat tournament was more-so. He rubbed his hands on his head through his short brown hair. The sweat wet his hands. The exertion he put himself through in that challenge was one of the hardest things he had been through. He viewed himself as an average lightsaber duelist and yet he managed to pull out the victory.
He got up and grabbed his towel from the coat hook on the wall and wiped his head and his hands before setting it back on the hook. He grabbed his holo-tablet from his desk and started to peruse the news to take his mind off of the paranoia that came from the waiting. He found an article about the former Queen of Naboo, apparently she was to become the new Naboo senator.
Good for her. She deserves it.
An electronic trilling bell alert played on his tablet and he accepted the call instantly. "Caden Vash? This is master Eeth Koth. The council requests your presence."
Caden's mouth dry tried to wet his mouth by swallowing before speaking. "Of course. I will be there right away."
The call hung up and Caden quickly set his tablet back on the desk before slipping his boots back on and heading out the door of the dorm room.
Caden began taking deep breaths to calm himself and he slowed down his walking speed as he navigated the halls and headed toward the main lobby of the Jedi Temple. He climbed the stairs of the grand staircase and approached the council chamber doors.
The force is with me.
Caden finished his approach to the door and the doors opened as he got closer. Caden entered and saw that there was a Zabrak Jedi standing in the center of the room and the majority of the council was seated in their seats.
"Welcome Caden," came the voice of Master Windu.
"How feel you?" asked Master Yoda.
Caden took another deep breath before speaking. "Anxious master."
"Hmmm… Unusual circumstance this is." Yoda then pointed to the Zabrak Jedi. "Nevras Duran your Jedi Master will be."
Master Windu then spoke up. "Master Duran requested you to become his padawan several years ago, but you were too young. Fortunately we were able to place him with another padawan then who we just promoted to knight hood. Normally we would never set aside an apprentice for any master, but Master Duran's work is important here on Coruscant."
The Zabrak known as Nevras Duran bowed to Master Windu before turning towards Caden. "Your connection to the force intrigued me when I met you as a youngling. I help lead the Jedi Investigations team here in the Coruscant underworld."
"Honorable cause it is. Good master for you Duran will be," added Yoda as he got up from his chair.
Caden turned to Yoda and bowed before looking back up to his new master and smiled.
Nevras smiled back. "Come let's get your things."
The pair then left the council chambers and a young Pantoran woman approached them. Her blue skin was beautiful in the light and her light purple hair was equally breathtaking. "I see you got your apprentice master," she said as she approached.
"I did indeed. Caden, this is my former apprentice Renna Lyrrum. She will be working with us as well. Have you decided on an apprentice for yourself?"
"I have my eye on a few. I'm surprised Master Yoda asked me to have an apprentice so early."
"I may have had a hand in that as I recommended you to the council after you finished your trials."
The group continued walking as they spoke.
"I see. If you believe I'm ready for that."
The three of them arrived at Caden's dorm. Caden grabbed his backpack and placed his holo-tablet and his few sets of clothes in the bag.
"We have a safehouse in the lower levels. We stay down there for the most part. Occasionally we meet with Master Sinube in the Temple's archives and if we are researching for a case we will claim a room here in the Temple."
Renna smiled at the mention of the safehouse. "I'll unfortunately be staying up here for a few days to decide upon an apprentice for myself. You will like the team and the safehouse Caden. I'll see you two later. It was good to meet you."
Renna stuck out her hand and Caden shook it. A vision flashed before his eyes of Renna falling into the depths of Coruscant and a girl's voice yelled out. "Master Lyrrum!"
Caden's face turned pale as he let go of Renna's hand? Nevras noticed the change and raised an eyebrow. "Caden? Are you okay?"
"I think so, master. I… I saw something," he placed his hand on his head and grabbed his apprentice braid as he tried to understand the vision. "I saw Renna falling down this tunnel and a girl was yelling."
Renna's blue skin flushed an indigo color on hearing this revelation. Nevras turned to Renna. "I will help him investigate this vision, do not worry."
Renna only nodded, her cheeks still flushed at the prospect of hearing of her potential demise. "Thanks… I'll see you later, master." Renna turned and headed out of the small dorm room.
"Let's go, Caden."
The newly minted master and apprentice made their way out of the Jedi Temple and began heading towards a ventilation shaft known as an underworld portal that leads towards the deeper levels of the planet.
