"Here we are, just like we practiced..." murmured Link to Zelda.
They were behind a big rock, observing the lord of the mountain along with the blue spirit rabbits as it drank water from the legendary spring. Even though it was early in the morning, the glow of Satori Mountain made the area seem like nighttime.
Zelda nodded, as they were both smiling warmly.
Link then put a finger over his mouth, signaling that neither of them could talk at this point. They were now commencing their operation.
Following the plan, Zelda cleared her mind and tip toed from the giant rock to the spring ever so silently. Both parties have digested stealth elixir prior to coming to the mountain. By now, she was in the water, as the holy horse's back was turned to her. I got this, Zelda told herself. None of the rabbits seemed to have been bothered by her presence. Some hop away from the water a bit, but none tried to yell or signal to the holy horse to watch out.
Link was observing all of the while. It was settled that Zelda should try and tame the lord of the mountain for herself, being that Link had already done so prior to stopping the Calamity earlier on. Taking a deep breath, but not too loud to alert the holy horse, Zelda leaped on the lord of the mountain at lightning speed!
The holy horse neighed loudly, causing the other blue spirit rabbits to run and disappear. The divine horse started to jump and attempt to knock Zelda off of itself. Link was a tad bit worried, seeing the situation play out, but choose to trust Zelda's moment. If anything goes wrong, they have healing potions and he has Mipha's grace to heal any wounds that she may get.
"Hold! Hold!" Zelda managed to get out as she tried patting its skin smoothly. The lord of the mountain still didn't budge, but it was anticipated by both Link and Zelda. They knew it would take a lot for it to calm down. Perhaps it was a good thing though, as it didn't want any random traveler to get the jump on itself, nor tame it temporarily for their enjoyment.
Unfortunately, Link could tell that Zelda's stamina was running low, as her movements and smoothening became more unorthodox. It was a bit strange though. Usually the divine horse would have settled down by now. The warrior quickly made up his mind. Even if this was Zelda's turn, he wanted it to be one to remember. With that he bolted for both of them and hoped on the horse, in front of Zelda.
"Hold! Hold!" Link stated, smoothening the holy horse as well.
Zelda was beat at this point and could only hold on to Link to remain on the lord of the mountain. If he hadn't showed up, it would have flung Zelda off and run away in to the mist. For whatever reason, the holy horse was very rebellious, even more so than Link remembered. By now, Link's own stamina was a quarter left.
Seeing Link struggle as well and feeling his stamina go down, Zelda made one last ditch to calm the horse again. The knight molded up the last remaining strength that he had to tame the horse one last time, and mentally brace for being thrown off as well.
.
.
"Hold!" They both said in unison as they gently smoothened the horse, but with a little more firmness.
.
.
Low and behold, the lord of the mountain finally settled down, and stopped fighting.
Immediately, Link sank his upper half forward as Zelda face planted herself into Link's back.
He shifted his head to view his companion.
"You alright, Zelda?" he asked.
She nodded, "I've been better, how about yourself?"
Silence filled between them for a few moments as they stared into each other's eyes.
Then their mouth's curled in to a smile as both of them burst out in uncontrollable laughter. The laughter was built out of relief, humor, anxiety, tension, and everything in between. It took them a few dozen of seconds gather themselves as they caught their breathes.
"By the goddesses, Link, how did you manage to do this yourself?!" she asked him.
The warrior shook his head, "Beats me! The holy horse was more hostile than I anticipated. But it all worked out in the end..." he responded as he smoothened the horse with his hand again.
Zelda looked down smiled from the back of Link's perspective.
"Thanks again, Link."
Link smirked, "I should be thanking you! You did the hard part, and plus, I wouldn't have done it without you too."
Looking back, he grinned at Zelda.
"So... are you ready to see what this horse can do?"
Her emerald eyes sparkled at his ocean eyes.
"Lead the way." She simply stated.
With that, Link patted the horse and gave his command to it.
"YA!" he shouted.
Subsequently, the lord of the mountains lifted its two front feet up. Zelda would have fallen off had she not held on to Link's battle hardened abs for support. Then after bring its feet down, all of them bolted down the hill to the rest of Hyrule's field.
.
.
.
Once down from the mountain, Zelda noticed that the horse never stopped sprinting, or was bothered when Link repeatedly gave it a spur ever now and then.
"Wow...so this horse really does have infinite stamina." Zelda stated out loud.
"Told ya', there's a reason why they call it 'the lord of the mountain'," responded her travel partner.
Zelda then smirked, "...Then, how about I give the spurs from now on as you sit back and relax?"
Link turned his head to face Zelda, as she was smiling confidently. This caused Link to smile too.
"Very well, lead the way," he said as he let Zelda take the glowing fur of the holy horse.
She then used the fur to keep the divine horse sprinting as they headed for the edge of the Gerudo Desert.
.
.
.
Around midday, they arrived at the edge of the Desert.
Link and Zelda finally dismounted from the horse.
Pulling out some fruit from their packets, both of them offered some fruit to the horse.
It gave the food a sniff before consuming it all, licking some of their fingers in the process. Zelda giggled as it tickled slightly to her, which made Link smile.
Once they stepped in the desert, Zelda became a bit worried.
"So...is it going to be alright?"
Link just nodded his head, and motioned to the horse.
"Watch closely..."
And with that, the horse turned around and sprinted the other way, before turning in to blue spirit mist.
"Amazing..." Zelda said to herself.
Turning to the Gerudo Desert, Link spoke out to Zelda again.
"Alright, let's go see the chief."
The Princess nodded in approval as they set out on foot to Gerudo Town.
Thanks for reading my small little story! Any comment or support is always appreciated. This is actually a chapter in a future story that I have planned, but I felt like typing this up first to let it stand on its own.
