Good day to you all! Happy Valentine's Day, hope you're all doing well, and if you are spending today with your significant other, yay for you! Me though, I'm spending it alone and writing. Not that I mind of course, a table for one can be fun!
Anyway, last place we left off, a rather vicious Regan had attacked Tyroth trying to save Diablo and now we're at a stand off! Read below to see the outcome!
Chapter Forty-Two
Slipped Away
Tyroth stepped towards Regan slowly, his paw held towards her, the Vampire Bat mutant was still crouched and snarling, and the dragon was worried.
"Everyone stay still!" Tyroth hissed to Sephie to which the gecko looked at the others and from her look the others saw what Tyroth wanted them to do and nodded in agreement.
"Listen kid." Tyroth said softly, "I know Diablo saved your life, I was there, I saw the Doberman, Rex, he pulled you from that burning car!"
Regan glared harder.
"You saw?" she asked, her fangs still bared.
Tyroth nodded.
"Yes!" he said "I was there! I saw the traffic accident that you were involved in! You would have died if Rex hadn't saved you, and Diablo gave you the water! And…" he paused "I credit them for that!" he said through gritted teeth.
Diablo smirked, again wriggling his fingers trying to get them loose from the soaking ropes under the water.
"So, I did do something you approve of then?" he asked.
"Shut up!" Sarah snarled pushing her foot harder on the Raven and Tyroth growled, some smoke billowing from his nostrils.
"But Diablo is hurting people!" he continued looking back at Regan.
"Bad people!" Regan hissed "He is protecting me!"
"We can offer the same protection child." Tyroth said stepping a little closer as he spoke "Where we come from, there are more of us! And we live in harmony! Away from the humans, away from bad people, we live as a large family!"
"A family of cowards!" Diablo hissed to Regan "They will keep you contained! They just hide away!"
Sarah punched Diablo hard as he spoke.
"Shut up you traitor!" she growled to which Regan turned to Sarah and screeched before crouching to leap at the cheetah.
"No!" Tyroth shouted as he stepped towards Regan and grabbed the back of her shirt before she could reach Sarah.
Sarah meanwhile fell backwards and at the same time, Diablo pulled his hands free of the ropes under the water and jumped to his feet.
Regan screeched again and turned to Tyroth snapping her fangs.
"Get off me!" she screamed.
Tyroth held her at arm's length so she couldn't bite him, but she flapped her wings and kicked her feet and flailed her arms.
At the same time, Diablo saw his chance to grab Sarah and pull her upwards by her hair, before pointing his gun at her head.
"Make one wrong move cat and I'll shoot you through the skull!" he cawed.
Sarah tried to struggle but the more she did, the more Diablo pulled her hair making her wince in pain as well as cease struggling.
"I warned you!" Diablo growled "You don't listen to me when I say leave us alone, and what do you do? You keep bugging us!"
"SARAH!" Percy shouted.
Sephie quickly drew an arrow and glared hard at Diablo.
"Let her go Raven!" she shouted.
"By the time you fire that arrow, there will be a bullet in your furball friend's brain!" Diablo barked, "You think that arrow can travel faster than a bullet!?"
"Don't you fucking dare…fuck with me!" Sephie hissed.
Tyroth held Regan away from him but as he saw Diablo holding Sarah hostage, he knew he had to act.
"Let Sarah go!" he roared.
"Or what?" Diablo shouted "Burn me? Try it and you'll torch your friend here! Let Regan go and I'll let Sarah go!"
Regan struggled in Tyroth's grip and snarled, and the Dragon glared and inhaled in fury.
What could he do? With a friend hostage, he knew he had to save her, even though he didn't want to give into the raven's demands, not since he was this close to capturing him and bringing him to justice for what he did to the Mutopians and to Jake and Mona.
"Did you hear what I said Dragon!?" Diablo shouted "Let Regan go and I'll let Sarah go!"
"Liar!" Sharky growled "I'll chew you up to splinters and use your feathers for a pillow!"
Percy nodded and held up his fists.
"You coward!" he said, "Holding a woman hostage!"
"Shut up insect!" Diablo cawed then turned to Tyroth "Are you gonna let the kid go, or do you want to see what your friend's brains look like staining the walls!?"
Tyroth bared his teeth and Diablo could see the flames flickering between them.
"Fine!" he growled before lowering Regan down and the little vampire bat pulled out of his grip before running to Diablo's side.
Diablo smirked.
"Thank you." He said.
"Now let Sarah go!" Tyroth ordered "Now!"
Diablo smirked again.
"Well since you asked so nicely!" he said, then pulled Sarah up before pushing her hard towards Sephie then he fired his gun upwards at Tyroth making the Dragon duck before he could react.
"Stay the fuck away from us!" Diablo shouted as he grabbed Regan and ran into the darkness of the sewers "Next time, I won't be merciful!"
"NO!" Sharky shouted and before anyone could stop him, he ran into the sewers trying to follow Diablo whilst Percy took care of Sarah and Sephie went to help her lover.
"Get back here you traitor!" Sharky shouted as he ran into the sewers, yet as he turned the corner, he saw nothing, both the Raven and the bat were gone.
The shark stood in the middle of the sewer and looked around, then he shouted in fury and anger before slamming his fists into the water in frustration.
"Fuck you! Fuck you!" he screamed "You fucking Fuck!"
He slapped and punched the water many times then fell to his knees sobbing in stress and taking a few deep breaths, furious that Diablo had escaped once again.
After gathering himself, he turned back to find his friends and saw Percy hugging a crying Sarah and Sephie standing over Tyroth who looked just as furious as Sharky was.
"Honey?" Sephie asked "Honey, are you okay?"
Tyroth looked up, his eyes were red and tears were falling and his skin was starting to glow brightly with his mana.
Sephie stepped back slightly scared and Tyroth stood up and slammed his fists against the sewer wall making several bricks splinter and flake as well as moisture fall from the wall.
"He got away!" he shouted "He got away! And with the child in tow! He threatened Sarah! And the bat bit and injured Jack! What the fuck are we dealing with!?"
He looked at Sharky, Percy, Sarah and Sephie.
His wife was looking really worried, as were the others, and Sarah was crying over the trauma of almost being shot in the head.
She had already had Diablo grab her the last time they confronted him and he had flown above the city then let go of her, yet luckily Percy had managed to catch her, and now the Raven had almost blown her brains out.
Sighing and knowing he had to be a leader and mature for the sake of his fellow Knights, Tyroth took a deep breath.
"I'm sorry," he said, "I'm so sorry, I need to be in control."
"Boss?" Percy asked as he looked up from comforting Sarah who was resting on his shoulder, tears falling from her eyes.
"We can't stay here." Tyroth said "Let's get back to the surface, check back in with the others and return home, we shall discuss further action there, and Sarah needs to rest."
"Okay." Sephie said, placing her hand on her husband's arm "I'll get back in touch with the others."
Tyroth nodded at Sephie in thanks then turned to Sarah.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
Sarah nodded.
"It's not the first time Diablo almost killed me." She sniffed.
Percy hugged Sarah again.
"We'll get you home." He said "It's gonna be okay."
"Thanks." Sarah said softly.
The five mutants headed back to the entrance of the sewers where they soon saw blue lights flashing above them.
Instinctively ducking out of sight, they listened to the voices and Tyroth recognised Hugh's voice.
"He's here!" he said "The others must have alerted him to the car!"
Percy climbed up the side and peeked over so he could see, and sure enough he saw the car surrounded by police officers, including Hugh who were gathering evidence and he also saw the man Regan had attacked was in an ambulance along with a couple of police officers and a paramedic was looking at the teeth marks on his throat.
After Tyroth and Sephie had chased Diablo, the other knights as well as take care of Jack they took the injured man to the surface and left him at the car for the police to find.
Hugh sipped his cup of coffee and watched the police as they gathered evidence as well as glanced at the man in the ambulance being examined.
Sergant Harris walked up to Hugh from the ambulance.
"The injuries on the man show signs of a beating, there's no doubt he has broken bones and heavy bruising but the baffling thing is the marks on his throat!"
"What kind of marks are they?" Hugh asked.
"Teeth marks." Harris said "And he's suffering from blood loss."
Hugh sighed.
"What in the world is going on?" he asked, yet he knew the answers, that this had been the work of Diablo, yet he had to hear more from Tyroth and the Knights.
"It's weird but also scary!" Harris said "First the Hate Preacher attack, then the Sex Offender Dale is dropped off at the station with similar injuries, and now this? Do you think it's the same attacker?"
"Without a doubt." Hugh said as he sipped his coffee, "But right now we need to gather evidence and let the hospital deal with the injured man, then we should interview him."
"Very well." Harris agreed.
Percy watched for a bit then looked down.
"Hugh's going to want answers Boss!" he said "I bet he'll be on the phone to you when he's done here!"
"No shit!" Tyroth said "Come on, we better leave before they notice us, Sarah needs to rest and we need to check on Jack!"
The others nodded and they moved away from the scene to find another way to get back to Mutopia without being spotted.
So once again Diablo got away due to his dirty tricks! And Hugh has arrived at the scene with the car, and with only one of the men who is injured due to the work of Diablo and Regan. He's going to have a lot of questions for Tyroth when he's done here!
