The rescue rangers sat in a circle in the vet's office. "What do we know about this thing?" Chip asked the group.
"It's gigantic for one, able to reach the second story of buildings easily. From reports on the news people have been saying it's the size of a semi truck," Monty started.
"And it can start fires that spread quickly," Dale added. "I wonder how hot that stuff is."
"In order for it spread to that much of an area so quickly, it would have to be fueled by something more then just the building, but an ignition source wasn't found," Gadget continued. "According to Kirby and Muldoon, the mansion just went up in flames. There's also the fact that it can tear through concrete and steel as if it wasn't even there. The claw marks we saw are proof enough that it's the same creature."
"Can you calculate how strong it is based off that?" Chip asked.
"I could, but it's likely to be even stronger then what we saw, and it's incredibly fast."
"Then at least give us a baseline of what we're dealing with." Chip finished.
"Hold on." Gadget leaned her head back and closed her eyes. After a minute she spoke. "It had to have hit that rock with at least nineteen thousand pounds of pressure per square inch, but considering how fast it moved and the concussive force from the impact it was likely far greater. To shatter solid granite like that should be impossible without high power explosives."
"Well whatever the case, we have to find out what it's planning and stop it," Monty stated. The door opened and the vet walked into the room. ( I don't know what happens in a vet's office so just use your imagination.) By the end of it, he said they were ready to be released back into central park.
They got back to Ranger Headquarters and Gadget fired up the newly installed computer. It took her just a few seconds to send out messages to all the Honorary Rangers around the globe for any information they had about this new creature.
"Hey Gadget, can you set up an alarm to sound when something similar to the creature appears?" Chip inquired.
"Sure thing, give me just a second." Her fingers flew across the keyboard she had made and in a few seconds, it was done. "Now all we do is wait." She leaned back in the couch and continued to stare at the screen.
"Dale and Zipper are helping Monty in the kitchen with an herbal remedy. He says it'll help get the last of the smoke out of our lungs." He coughed into his elbow and sat next to her. "I hope it works."
"Yeah," Gadget replied. She had one hand under her chin and the other tucked under her arm, the way she did when trying to solve a problem.
"You doing alright? You're thinking and not speaking again. You only do that when something's bothering you." Chip looked at her.
"I'm trying to figure out what kind of animal that was. It looked bigger then a bear, hit like a bulldozer and was out of sight in under a second. Something that big shouldn't be able to move so fast after going through that rock. It doesn't make any sense." At that moment the computer got a hit. The two stood and went to look at what it had found.
Displayed across the screen was a picture of The Sphynx from Egypt, or what had been the giant carving. It's pieces had been strewn all over the place and it's head lay upside down in the sand, giant claw marks all across the jagged surface.
"Why would it do something like that to the Sphynx?" Gadget asked.
"It has tons of diamonds buried underneath it, remember? The creature must be going after them for some reason. The Sphynx does have some magical property to it but not without the ring in the tomb, which Hiram is supposed to protect," Chip realized.
"Which means that if the diamonds are stolen he should be waking up soon," Gadget added. "Maybe he can give us some information about this creature. He is older then everyone else that we know of."
"That makes sense, let's go then." Chip finished.
After fourteen hours they reached Egypt. Chip was currently flying the Ranger Wing, having switched with Monty a few hours before. He woke everybody up and switched with Gadget so she could land it. The aircraft came down right next to the pyramid and slid to a stop on the skis. The group piled out of the vessel and rushed into the tomb that lay open with claw marks along the edges and the walls. Everything was covered in dust and something wet, but at the very back wall lay a mummy. Hiram was breathing hard as he held his chest. He tried to stand but fell back down.
"Hiram!" They all screamed as they ran for him.
"What happened here?" Chip questioned.
The mummy gasped. "It was, the Beast." He took another breath. "It tore through the wall, took the ring, and fought the Sphynx. It swallowed the diamonds, and disappeared." His eyes slid shut as his breathing slowed. "It was said, that when the world is to end, The Beast will swallow all the magic in the land, and everything will die."
"What does it look like?" Gadget inquired.
"It's, a shadow. A great, black figure, bigger then houses. The only other thing I saw, was claws. Read, the hieroglyphics." His breathing grew shallower as he continued to speak. "I did my job, as best I could. Now, I can move on." His chest stopped moving, his hand fell to his leg and his head slumped over. The Rangers began to cry as their ally's life slipped from his body and up to the heavens where he could join his family after such a very long time.
