Whumptober Day 13
That's Gonna Leave a Mark
Prompts: "This is gonna suck"/burns/cauterization
This is an extremely short one, but I thought we needed some levity. Enjoy!
"Can someone explain to be why they thought it would be a good idea to keep leftover Chitauri weapons and parts around?" Mikayla asked, shooting arrows from her position on the top of a building, aiming toward a group of people creeping up to Cap's position in an alley.
"Does anyone know why the bad guys do the things they do?" Sam asked, swooping down to take another group out heading towards Natasha.
Natasha calmly replied. "Only thing is, these weapons were held by SHIELD."
"Oh, for God's sake!" Mikayla groaned. "Sam, northwest of Cap, So, you're saying SHIELD forgot they had these weapons? Give me five minutes on the computer, and I could've had them cataloged alphabetically, by size, and by weight."
"Braggart," Tony chipped in, flying by on his way to help out Thor."
"I'll put it on my to-do list because I can." Whoosh! Mikayla released more arrows, taking out another group climbing out of a vehicle as if they were exiting a clown car. Speaking of clown cars, that reminded her she hadn't heard his voice over the comms recently. "Anyone heard from the lesser Barton?" Mikayla asked, knowing that she would get a response from him.
"I have not," Thor responded, knocking a few of the bad guys out of the way with Mjolnir.
"I swear, if he jumped off another building," Mikayla muttered.
"Trying to relive your first meeting, maybe?" Sam smarted off.
"Hush, bird bro. Clint was supposed to be on the roof to the left of me." Mikayla stood up and looked over at the rooftop. There was no sign of her husband. "Clint! Clint! Where the hell are you?"
Sam sent Redwing over to scan the area. "Sorry, Ladyhawke, no Hawkeye other than you. Don't even spot his weaponry."
Mikayla huffed, then looked down toward the street. The area she had been covering was calm. The airborne Avengers could handle it from here. She pulled a grappling arrow out, shot it toward the next building over, then zipped across the alleyway to the rooftop. Unfastening the arrow from the building, she did a quick scan. Clicking a button on her glasses to enhance her distance vision, she saw a glint of metal where the sunshine landed on Bucky's arm. He was on a rooftop about six buildings over. "Barnes, come in! Check in, Bucky!" His head never looked up. "Crap, how and why? Never mind. It's probably got to do with Clint." Mikayla judged the distance and was able to take running leaps and make it over to Bucky. Landing on the rooftop (barely – she wasn't about to tell Clint she almost missed and had to grab the eave with her fingers), she ran over to Bucky and took a deep breath. Bucky knelt over Clint, signing to him, 'this is gonna suck.' Clint had several deep gashes along his arms, and Bucky was cauterizing the smaller ones. Clint grimaced as Bucky treated each wound. She noticed Clint's uniform had several areas where the material had been burned off, leaving ugly marks on his thighs.
Bucky heard her walking through the gravel and turned around. "Damned idiot didn't want anyone to know he got hurt again. He was picked up by some big ass bird these guys had brought. It materialized out of nowhere and grabbed him off the roof. He was able to slice the creature's leg, and the bird dropped him here. Clint flew over me, which is how I ended up here."
"And his aids?"
"Fell out mid-flight. He made me promise to turn off my comms."
Mikayla leaned over and signed, 'Really?'
'You look pretty.'
'Don't patronize me, Barton. We'll talk about this when we get home.' Mikayla tapped her comm. "Found our missing bird and raccoon." Bucky shook his head.
"How bad is he hurt this time?" Natasha asked.
"He's still breathing for now. Can't guarantee what'll happen later." Mikayla shook her head, reaching into a pocket, pulling out another set of hearing aids, and then placing them in his ears. "Hey."
"Hey, beautiful."
"Don't sweet talk me. I can't believe you weren't going to tell anyone you were hurt."
"I know, I was wrong."
"Just for that, I'm going to let you explain yourself to Katie & Philip."
"No," Clint whined.
"Maybe that'll make you think twice about making stupid ass decisions and not asking for help."
"Yes, ma'am."
Bucky cleared his throat. "While you two were making googly eyes at each other, I treated your wounds, bird boy."
"Thanks, Bucky." Mikayla stood, then between the two of them helped Clint up. "Awaiting transport."
"Hulk on the way," he growled.
"Thanks, big guy. When you get back, can you remind Bruce that we'll need him to check doofus's injuries?" Hulk grunted his approval, then landed on the roof, picked all three up, and took them back to the tower.
Later, after Clint got all bandaged up and shot up with antibiotics, he and Mikayla were sitting in the communal area on their loveseat. "I'm glad you're okay, Clint," Mikayla said, combing her fingers through Clint's hair.
"Not my finest hour," Clint admitted. "I need to remember I have more people depending on me now."
Mikayla leaned over and kissed his cheek. "Just try to be a little reckless, okay?"
"Yes, ma'am." Clint sighed. "Guess I'd better tell the kids."
Mikayla smirked. "Aunt Pepper and Uncle Tony are watching them, so you get a reprieve."
"Hot damn! What are we waiting for?" Clint grabbed Mikayla's hand, and they went up to their suite.
Natasha rolled her eyes and said to herself, "Some things never change."
