Truth
Everything went wrong very fast after I left Camp to return home after Summer was over. I had just finished a very good sparring with Thalia which I actually won against.
Paul wasn't there as he was preparing for the new school year.
I was on my way back until my monster proof phone rang ( a gift from Leo Valdez). I answered,
"Mom! Everything alright"? Mom answered back,
"Percy! You need to come home now"!? I answered back,
"Yeah. Just around the corner. Everything okay"? Mom shouted,
"Good! Get here quickly! There's something you need to see". She hung up after that.
I put the phone back in my jacket pocket. Something is definitely wrong. Mom hasn't been this scared since I returned home after we defeated Gaea.
I finally made it. I opened the door while keeping my right hand on Riptide. Mom was carrying around a chest and equipment I've never seen before.
She was holding some metal sword with some weird inscriptions on it. The hilt was glowing blue for some reason. In her other hand was some kind silver gun that I've never seen before.
"Mom, what's going on"? Mom looked at me and shoved the gun into my hand.
"You'll need this Percy. I'm sorry but I made a terrible mistake". Mom continued,
"When I found out about the scars on your leg. I knew that they'd come for you". This wasn't making any sense but I let her talk,
"Percy... I lied to you years ago. I'm terribly sorry but I'm not your mother". That hit me harder than falling in the Pit of Tartarus.
"Mom... What" Mom dragged me over and she opened a closet. She put a bag of stuff I don't know what but I took it regardless.
Mom explained, "Percy... I know it's a lot to take in but we don't have much time. Get to the car"! The way she spoke made me listen. I got in the passenger seat while holding the silver chest. Mom told me to keep the gun in my jacket pocket.
She stepped on the gas and we drove out. She continued,
"Listen to me... Your father is Poseidon but I did not give birth to you. Both you and your actual birth mother came from a Planet called Lorien". I shouted out loud,
"Mom, that's impossible! What are you talking about"! Mom replied,
"It's the truth Percy! Lorien was destroyed by a species called The Mogadorians. You and 9 others were sent here for your protection". My head was spinning from everything she said. It seemed unbelievable. Not the thing that aliens existed. It was the fact that we weren't related. That she wasn't my Mom. It just didn't make sense.
Mom continued, "Each of you were sent a Guardian to watch over you. They called themselves Cepans. I was yours". Mom took a deep breath and continued,
"One human helped us. His name was Malcolm Goode but he disappeared. He knew who your father was. He told me once that it was possible your godly scent would keep you away from the Mogadorians along with the Loric charm that protected you until you were ready but I noticed your scars".
I stiffened. Those scars searing in my leg hurt as bad as the poison of Gorgon's blood.
I looked at my scarred leg and said, "Why do the symbols read one, two and three"? Mom sighed in despair with that realization and said,
"It means that the first three of the Garde are dead".
I asked impatiently, "Garde"? Mom quickly added,
"It's what you and the other children were referred to. You are Number Ten of the Ten that came down here. The Garde had gifts Percy. Abilities that were inherited from their ancestors. Back on Lorien, we called them Legacies. Although, you're different than the others due to Poseidon being your father. We need to leave now before they can grab you".
I sighed in shock. I haven't got the brains or imagination to make this stuff up. I could tell that Mom was definitely telling the truth.
Things started making more sense now. How I sent Smelly Gabe flying before our trip to Montauk. How I strangled the two snakes with ease. Why we always moved when something went wrong at the school
"It's my fault Percy. I was foolish. I thought that because of your father, you'd be protected from them but the first sighting of the Mogs came yesterday".
I asked, "Why did you never tell me until now? Why can't I remember my birth mother or Lorien"? Mom wiped away a few tears away and answered,
"We need to get to your father. He'll give you a better explanation.
Questions appeared in my mind. Did Chiron know about this? Did Grover? Why didn't Dad tell me about any of this? Was this why I could do the things I did in Tartarus?
I blocked that last question out of my mind. I did not want to open up that memory.
I looked down at the chest, "What is this"? Mom noticed and answered,
"Your inheritance from Lorien. It was left behind by your birth mother. Malcolm told me to wait until it was the right time to give it to you. It was for you so only you can open it".
I looked into my pockets that held the alien gun.
Mom spoke, "Your mother gave that to me. Told me to pass it to you when you were ready".
Something then occurred to me,
"We can't leave Paul or the others". Mom knew the others meaning my friends at Camp.
Mom answered, "Your friends will be fine Percy. The Mogs want you. Paul will understand. You're more important".
I was about to argue when a trio of cars came near us. A large truck came close behind them.
A grim expression appeared on Mom's face as she floored the gas as hard as she could.
"Their here. Hand me the shotgun. It's in the backseat. Get your gun ready". I did as she said. I gave her the same shotgun she used back in the Battle of Manhattan. I then readied the gun and looked for the trigger.
Everyone knew I was horrible at Archery but maybe guns were different. They had to be.
The ugly guys in the cars rolled up their windows. They aimed their rifles at us.
Mom told me to wait. When she swerved to avoid the first shot, I open fired on the closest one. A blue light blasted from firearm and distintegrated the driver. The car crashed. The other mog came out of the vehicle and shot at us.
"Swerve left"! She did and we narrowly avoided the shot. I then noticed the other car coming up on the other side.
"Mom! Duck". She ducked her head and I fired another shot. It disintegrated the front right wheel. The car crashed.
Mom smiled, "Nice job. You're a good shot". I said,
"Yeah, Guess it's different than bows and arrows".
We then heard a large roar.
"Shit! A Piken"! Mom cursed as she floored the gas pedal as I looked out the window.
I won't lie. This thing was hideous and I've fought a lot of ugly monsters. This thing makes them look like a warm up.
The beast was charging towards us. I fired a few shots but it wasn't doing much harm.
Then an idea finally hit me and I went for it.
I concentrated with the same tug in my gut as before and multiple potholes Burst open with endless sewer water coming out. I willed it to my command and I heard the beast scream in agony as multiple tendrils pierced the beasts skin. I kept going until it finally fell and died.
I turned away and said,
"Well I gotta say that was the ugliest" Suddenly everything tumbled around me as our car flipped. We were definitely shot. We flipped a couple times until we stopped. I ignored the my aching pain and found Mom.
Blood was on her face. Her shotgun was laying right near her. I grabbed it and carefully removed her seatbelt. I caught her before she hit the windshield.
"Are you alright"? She replied,
"Been better. Hand me that shotgun".
I handed it to her and I looked outside the window nearby. I couldn't spot anyone yet. I looked at Mom and she nodded her head.
I kicked the window and it shattered. We crawled out there with my hand on my gun. No one was spotted yet. I helped Mom out of the vehicle.
More of those creepy as hell guys came out holding rifles and swords. Mom pulled me away and we ran. I exploded a pothole to make a distraction.
We ran as fast as we could but they were coming out of nowhere. I uncapped Riptide and fought off three of them while Sally was shooting others in the head
I stabbed one in the chest and decapitated the second. The last one uppercut me and I fell through the window of the abandoned house.
"Percy"! Mom yelled.
I grunted in pain. I felt lucky that I always carried a water bottle in my right jacket pocket. I took it out and willed the water into a sharp dagger. I threw the dagger into the Mog's eye and turned to dust.
Mom came in, holding a Mogadorian rifle and I said, "I'm good". We turned to hear the roaring only to see dozens of Mogs converging on us followed with another one of those beasts.
"You need to go to your father now"! I replied,
"Not without you. If we can run, we can make it to one of those cars".
Mom blasted at the Mogs coming through the window on the left while I decapitated the Mogs on the right. More were coming in every second.
After I took down another one, I felt Mom pulled me aside and shove the silver chest on my right hand. She said, "You need to get out of here. You've only got one minute"! I was about to ask what she meant but I saw the most horrifying thing in my life.
I yelled in anger as a black blade came right through my Mom's abdomen. The Mog smiled, not realizing what she did. Her bloody hand touched something in her pocket.
She gave me a sad smile and muttered to me,
"Go... I love you". She said I had only one minute. She then stabbed her captor in the face.I regretfully charged out the window, making as much distance as I could.
A blue explosion destroyed the house. Nothing could've survived that.
I ran and ran as fast as I could. I hotwired a car and drove my way to Montauk. It took everything to not break down. I had to keep going.
I dove into the sea and swam my way to Dad's palace.
A merman appeared and shouted, "Who goes there"?
"You know who I am Daryl". The guard replied,
"Ah, Perseus. Pleasure to see you again, my Lord". I rolled my eyes,
"I need to speak with my Father".
"Follow me then".
We swam into the Palace. He told Dad what I said. He let me into his room where I saw Amphitrite. Despite my Dad's unfaithfulness, she was always kind to me
"Hello Percy. I'm glad but I'm a bit surprised to see you here".
I replied, "Hello Father". I went over to a nearby table and slammed the silver chest on it. Poseidon and Amphitrite looked beyond shocked.
It seems they both knew about Lorien.
"Son, I..." I turned to him with anger in my voice,
"Sally's dead. If that was even her name to begin with. She was murdered by a bunch of aliens trying to kill me. Told me to come find you". Amphitrite was about ready to console me but I wasn't finished,
"I need answers Dad. Tell me everything. Tell me about Lorien and The Mogadorians".
