"So, are we ready then?" Haruhi asked once Benio had helped prepare her for the meeting with Tamaki, Kaoru and Hikaru.
"I think so," Benio said.
"Do you think this will work? This whole idea of mine?" Haruhi asked.
She did like the idea of seeing the war end, if only so as long as she was in this world she and everyone else weren't in danger.
"I have absolute faith in you, my lady!" Benio insisted.
"Well good, good," Haruhi said, "yeah, I think we got this."
"Of course we do! The only thing we have to worry about is Suoh or one of the Hitachiins acting dishonorable!"
"Right, that," Haruhi, rubbing her neck. The idea of Tamaki being a cold blood killer was both hard and sad to imagine. She bet if the Tamaki she knew heard about how this version of him, he'd be so ashamed he'd hide himself in a closet and not come out until he had become one with the mushrooms.
"Fujioka! Amakusa! Let's get going!" Hunny suddenly shouted from ourside of the hidden room.
"Coming General!" Benio called back.
"Right, let's do this," Haruhi said to herself. She noticed the scepter still resting on its spot on her desk. She carefully took it and put it into the bag Benio had prepared for her.
'Just in case' she thought as she followed Benio out. There stood Hunny on a fancy looking outfit himself. Kyoya was there in his usual doctor uniform and so was Kasanoda in his usual armor.
"All set General!" Benio said with a salute.
"Good, let's head out!" Hunny ordered. He looked at Kasanoda one last time.
"Take good care of the troops for us!"
"I will!" Kasanoda said as he saluted, him, Haruhi, Benio and even Kyoya as they walked past them.
"So are we taking a carriage or horses or what?" Haruhi asked as they walked through the camp.
"No, we're going to the island," Hunny said like it was nothing.
"Island?" Haruhi said out loud.
"The island of neutral territory," Benio said as they kept walking.
"Oh goody," Haruhi said.
Haruhi took a deep breath looking around the small ferry she was sitting on with Hunny, Benio and Kyoya, along with a few extra guards.
The more they rowed, the more anxious she was feeling. Even if there apparently was a chance Tamaki and the twins weren't going to kill them, it was still a little nerve racking. She still didn't know what was going on fully with this world. What if she somehow messed everything up and made things worse?
"General, look," Benio said suddenly. Haruhi followed her gaze to see another fancy looking ferry waiting by the island.
"Should have known they would try and be here first," Hunny said as he stood.
"Suoh!"
"Haninozuka!" came a shout back as Tamaki appeared on the deck of his ferry. Behind him stood Hikaru and Kaoru. All three had smirks on their faces.
"Come ashore?" Hunny called to them.
"Come ashore!" Tamaki called back.
"Go ahead," Benio ordered the ferry-man. He went and steered the boat right to the island and up on shore.
The two of the accompanying soldiers quickly jumped off and looked around.
"All clear!" one called out.
Hunny immediately jumped off the ferry.
"Coming Fujioka?" he said.
"Yeah," Haruhi said as she managed to step out and tried to jump off the ferry like Hunny had. Only to slip and accidentally land on her face in the sand.
"Whoa!" she shouted as she fell.
"My lady are you alright!" Benio called out as Haruhi felt her pulling her up.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Haruhi tried to brush it off. She could hear Hikaru and Kaoru laughing. Haruhi looked over and saw them in tears with Tamaki looking smug.
"Feeling a little light on your feet there, Fujioka?" Tamaki taunted.
"Like you've tripped and fell on your face!" Haruhi muttered mad.
"There's the Haruhi I know," Hunny said as the two walked towards the center.
"Huh?" Haruhi said.
Soon she was standing right across from Tamaki.
"So," Tamaki began, "here we are, ready to listen to your so called proposition for peace?"
"Yes," Hunny said as he handed a document to Tamaki, "Fujioka has come up with a fairly decent proposal for you Suoh that should make us both happy."
"And is Fujioka going to share it with us?" Tamaki asked as he leaned in a little closer towards Haruhi. Haruhi had to lean back, while also hearing Benio growl mad.
"It's all there in the document, Suoh. Just read it," Hunny answered annoyed.
Tamaki looked over at him.
"And what if I would prefer it if Fujioka were to tell it to me herself?" he asked.
"It's in the document, Senpai, just read it," Haruhi insisted.
"Sen-What?" Hikaru and Kaoru asked.
"It's a, new word I've, been hearing around that, means, potential friend," Haruhi quickly said.
"Oh, a potential friend, huh?" Tamaki said, "you hear that? A potential friend?"
"Certainly an improvement over a battered waisted worthless dog," Hikaru said.
"And that was the nicest thing she had said to you, even before Morinozuka's "accident" Kaoru added.
"Don't you dare bring him up!" Benio snapped.
All three men stood up straight in slight fear.
"Right, anyway men, let us review this so called proposition," Tamaki said as he and the twins stepped back and started to look it over.
Afted a while, the three turne back and looked at Haruhi's group in shock.
"You're willing to give complete control of the Shizukeisha to us?" Tamaki asked.
"Uh, yes, all control of the river," Haruhi said.
The three didn't look convinced.
"You realize what you'd be giving up if did do this?" Tamaki asked.
"Yes, but it'll be worth it in the long run," Hunny replied, "we'll get along fine without the river."
"Seems a little too good to be true," Hikaru said.
"And a little too easy," Kaoru said.
"Okay, look," Haruhi found herself speaking up, "we didn't even want to do this war to begin with! You started it because you were worried that we would overpower you! I think us giving up this river proves we never had that intent!"
"Hmm," Tamaki thought about it for a moment. "I suppose you you have point."
He walked back over to the twins and the three huddled together as they whispered back and forth.
"Now that sounded more like the Fujioka we all know," Hunny praised, "I think you're getting better."
"Thanks, I guess," Haruhi said, "What do you supposed they're talking about?"
"They do appear to be taking the matter seriously," Kyoya mentioned.
"Looks can be deceiving, good doctor," Benio muttered.
Suddenly the three all looked over at them.
"We decided," Tamaki declared as he walked back over to Haruhi, "well accept your terms...,"
"If?...," Benio asked defensive.
"Always the direct approach, aren't you Madam?" Tamaki said with a smirk.
"Yes if...,"
"If what?" Haruhi asked annoyed.
"One, your 3rd in command, Hinako Tsuwabaki marries one of the Hitachiin brothers," Tamaki said.
"No! No marriages against anyone wills!" Hunny declared. He took a deep breath. "However, we will permit the twin brothers to try and court Lt. Tsuwabaki and see if they can convince her to marry one of them."
"We can try and woo her?" Hikaru and Kaoru asked. Hunny and Haruhi nodded.
The two looked at each other before they replied, "Deal."
"Good," Haruhi said happily.
"Is there anything else?" Benio asked.
"Well there might be one thing," Tamaki said.
"Okay, what do you want?" Haruhi asked.
"I get a kiss from you, Fujioka," Tamaki said smugly.
"What?" Haruhi, Benio and Hunny all asked together.
"A kiss and I'll consider the deal complete," Tamaki said looking at Haruhi eagerly.
"How dare you!" Benio started to yell.
"You mock Fujioka in such a way after killing Takashi!" Hunny also shouted.
"Hey, hey, calm down," Haruhi said quickly as she tried to calm the situation down.
"It's just one kiss. It's fine, I can handle it."
"How thoughtful of you, Senpai," Tamaki said.
Haruhi sighed as she walked closer to Tamaki and suddenly kissed him on the cheek.
Everyone looked surprised by Haruhi's action.
"That's it?" Tamaki asked.
"What? You didn't say it had to be any place specific," Haruhi pointed out.
"True," Tamaki said, rubbing his cheek. However he smiled, "Clever as always Fujioka. I am truly no match for you." He snapped his fingers.
"Somebody bring me a pen! So that I may sign the treaty."
"Actually, one more thing!" Hunny suddenly spoke up, "You have to promise you'll be a better leader to your people! No more using them as casual sacrifices! Like they're bugs or something!"
"Yeah, that wasn't a nice thing on your part Senpai. You'll have to stop that," Haruhi agreed.
"Well, you might be right," Tamaki agreed, "Now that the war is ending, I can certainly try."
"General?" Kyoya spoke up.
"Yes Doctor?" Hunny asked.
"I would like to offer my services for making sure General Suoh and his subordinates do comply with your request," Kyoya offered, "I have some good skills in the manner of being a voice of reason."
'Yeah you do,' Haruhi thought.
"I suppose," Hunny seemed to agree, "Suoh?"
"I guess we could give him a try," Tamaki also agreed. He studied Kyoya over, "He seems to have some type of motherly vibe about him. And what mother would steer her children wrong?"
"Thank you, I suppose," Kyoya said.
"Are you sure you'll be okay Kyoya?" Haruhi asked.
Kyoya smiled at her with confidence.
"Don't worry about me General, I can handle myself."
"Well alright," Haruhi said, "thank you and good luck. I'm sure you'll have your hands full."
"I'm sure I'll managed," Kyoya insisted.
'Yeah, I bet you will,' Haruhi thought.
"Hey Boss," Kaoru said as he presented Tamaki with a big fancy looking pen.
Hikaru knelt down in front of him, as Kaoru laid the treaty on his back.
"Ah yes, thank you," Tamaki said as he set to work signing his name. He held his pen out to Haruhi. "General Fujioka?"
Haruhi took the pen as Benio knelt in front of her. Kaoru laid the treaty on her back.
'I hope I don't mess up this signature,' Haruhi thought as she wrote out her name as best she could.
"Hunny?" Haruhi said handing him the pen.
"Thank you," Hunny said as he too signed. Haruhi was a little greatful he didn't seem to at all concerned about her signature.
Instead after he finished, he handed it to Tamaki.
Tamaki read it over with a smile.
"It is done then," he declared.
"Thank you, Senpai," Haruhi said.
"Yes, thank you Senpai," Hunny also said.
"Oh, you too now Haninozuka?" Tamaki said, "Yes, I think we're all about to become senpais now."
"Hey boss," Hikaru whispered, "If that's the case...,"
"What are we going to do about you-know-who?" Kaoru asked, pointing towards their boat.
"Oh, right," Tamaki said, "go ahead and bring him out. He's no longer of use to us."
"Who are you talking about?" Haruhi asked.
"You'll see," said Tamaki, "I guess in a way you could say we're exchanging him for your doctor friend."
"Huh?" Haruhi said as she looked over at Tamaki's boat to see Hikaru and Kaoru helping someone out.
"Is that...," Benio started to say.
"Takashi!" Hunny said in shock.
"Mori-Senpai?" Haruhi said softly, "but how? I thought he was dead!"
"We thought so too when we found in on the battlefield during the aftermath," Tamaki explained, "but he had a very small pulse that we decided to take him back to our camp."
"No doubt to hold him as a hostage or bargaining piece for us!" Benio accused him.
"On Point as always Amakusa," Tamaki said smugly, "yes we'd figured we could use him for our own advantages, including if things didn't go our way during this meeting. But since things did go rather smoothly and in our favor, you can have him back, no strings attached. Except for the doctor coming with us."
"Thank you," Haruhi said in shock.
"He still a little weak, has a ways to go before he fully recovered. But, he'll make it. He's on the right road to recovery," Tamaki said as Hikaru and Kaoru managed to gently put Mori down in his knees.
Kyoya walked over and examined him.
"He's right, General," he assured Haruhi and Hunny, "he's going to be just fine."
"Thank you," Haruhi said a she too knelt down in front of him. "Mori, err, Takashi?"
Takashi looked up at her.
"Haruhi?" he said softly as he looked at her.
"Yes, it's me," Haruhi said softly with a smile.
"She's helped end the war, Takashi. It's over," Hunny said.
"I uh did have to give up the Shizukeisha river or something," Haruhi explained, "but..,"
Mori grabbed her and pulled her into a big hug.
"It's alright," he also said softly, "as long as I can see you again!"
"Ugh, this is getting too mushy for my taste," Tamaki said, "let's go, we're done." He and the twins started to walk back to their boat. "Let's go Mummy-Dear!"
"Coming," Kyoya said as he started to follow, "I hope he doesn't make it a habbit of calling me that."
'Oh dear,' Haruhi thought.
"Otori, thank you!" Hunny called out.
"I'll do my best for you two!" Kyoya promised.
"Anything we can tell your family?" Hunny asked.
"Just that I did what I did for the good of everyone and I'll continue to do my best to bring honor to our family name," Kyoya said as he boarded the ferry.
"We will," Hunny promised, "good luck!"
Kyoya stood on the deck with, Tamaki and the twins, waving good bye.
"Well let's get going," Hunny said, "The treaty gave us three days to break it down our camp and move out of Suoh's new territory."
"I bet we can get it done in two," Benio bragged as they headed back to their ferry.
"Do you need some help?" Haruhi asked as she tried to help support Mori as he stood up.
"I'll be fine," Mori tried to assure her as the two walked slowly to the ferry.
He grabbed Haruhi by the chin and looked at her fondly.
"I'm just glad to see you again," he said. Next thing Haruhi knew, Mori leaned down and kissed her.
However he quickly pulled away.
"Something wrong?" Haruhi asked.
Mori took her hand and hurried to the ferry.
"Can I take Haruhi down below?" Mori immediately asked.
"So soon Morinozuka?" Benio asked.
"Are you sure you're well enough for that?" Hunny asked.
"It's fine," said Mori as he moved towards the stairs leading to the lower deck with Haruhi. Once they were below, Mori shut the hatch leading back to the deck.
"What's wrong?" Haruhi asked worried.
Mori put his hands on her shoulders.
"I know, you're not a bad person, but you have to tell me," he started to say, "who are you and where is my Haruhi?"
Haruhi looked at him in shock.
"What?" Haruhi asked. "But, how?"
"I have my ways," Mori insisted, "now, tell me, please?"
"Well, I'll try, although it might be hard to understand," Haruhi explained.
"I'll try," Mori said, "now please tell me what's happening."
"So you expect me to believe that hitting me with this scepter changed me to this new world? New place?" Haruhi asked annoyed after she listen to Kyoya and Mori explain the whole situation in regards to the scepter.
"That's the runnimg conclusion we've been coming to since it's first started on our end," Kyoya explained.
Haruhi looked at him sternly.
"Seriously? You hit me or whoever on the head and they change people, or something?"
"Well it has happened twice so far," Kyoya said.
"I see," Haruhi said. "Well, that would explain why you have all been acting a little odd. Especially Suoh and the Hitachiins." She still didn't looked too convinced.
"So if I got hit again, I'll be sent home?" she still asked.
"That, we don't know for sure," Kyoya admitted, "since the last time we tried that, we got you instead of our Haruhi."
"But there's still a chance right?" Haruhi asked.
"Well of course," Kyoya said.
"So I can still make it home where I can help end the war and...," Haruhi paused before looking towards Mori, "And where my Takashi is still dead."
Mori put his hand on her shoulder.
"I'm sorry, but yes," he said softly.
Haruhi looked up at him with a sad face.
"I guess that's just how it should be," she said reluctantly. She took a deep breath before composing herself.
"Please feel free to hit me again on the head with that scepter. I'm willing to take the risk in order to make it to my home where I belong and you get your Haruhi back."
She walked over to Tamaki and the twins.
"I apologize for confusing you for my enemy and trying to hurt and kill you," Haruhi said with a bow.
"Oh no, you can't fight your instincts," Tamaki said, "all is forgiven."
"It is?" Hikaru and Kaoru asked.
"Yes! It is!" Tamaki insisted through clenched teeth.
"Thank you," Haruhi said. She actually managed to smile at them. "I don't know if any of my colleagues will believe that there is a nice version of you. I'm still have a hard time believing it! But I suppose if what you're saying is true, there is a possibility."
"And it's interesting to know there's such a kickass version of Haruhi," Hikaru and Kaoru said.
"Thanks, I guess," Haruhi said as she walked back to Mori and took the scepter.
"Does any of that make sense to you?" Haruhi asked Mori.
Mori stroked his chin as he pondered what Haruhi had told him.
"So, if I were to hit you with that jewel stick, or scepter, woudl my Haruhi truly return?" he asked.
"I don't for sure, I'm not even sure what is all going on. I mean I got hit as a rich socialite and ended up here. So I don't know what will happen to this body and her personality once I'm hit. You could end up with somebody totally different."
"But it could be the only chance you have, right?" Mori asked.
"I guess so," Haruhi said.
"And also if my Haruhi were to not act like hersel, I could try again and hit her with this?" Mori asked as he fiddled with the scepter.
"I think, but I think you have to wait at least a day before it'll work," Haruhi explained.
"I understand," Mori assured her as he studied the scepter some more.
"Are you willing to give it a try then?"
"I think so?" Haruhi said.
"We can hold off until we reach shore," Mori said, "might be eaiser to do it then anyway depending on who or what happens with this body. We can wait until we're at our tent or safe spot."
"That might be a good idea," Haruhi agreed.
"So, do you have feelings for the Takashi back in your world?" Mori asked casually.
"Uh, well, not to the extent my version here does," Haruhi said sheepishly.
"Oh," Mori said actually sounding surprised. "You world really must be different from this."
"Oh, yeah, it's much different from this one," Haruhi said.
"Tell me about it," Mori insisted.
"Okay, I guess I can tell you a little bit," Haruhi said as she sat down next to Mori and told him about her world.
"I wonder if there's anyway to make some of these things here," Mori said after a while.
"Well, you may have to figure out some things but, it could be possible," Haruhi said.
Suddenly the door above them started to thump.
"Takashi, Haruhi, sorry to disturb you, but we're reaching shore. We have to share the good news with the soldiers," Hunny called from above.
"We'll be right up," Mori called back. He looked at Haruhi. "Once we make the announcement that I've returned and that the war's officially over, I'll take you to the secret room and try sending you home."
"Thank you," Haruhi said as both felt the boat come to a stop.
The door above opened and Hunny poked his head down.
"So, Amakusa and Kasanoda are going to gather the troops all together and then I'll announce that you're back Takashi and then you and Haruhi can make yhe great announcement of about the war being over."
"Sounds good," Mori said looking at Haruhi who also nodded.
Hunny nodded as he looked out towards the shore, waiting.
"Alright, I think we're good," he said after a while.
Mori looked at Haruhi and offered her his hand.
"Let's get this over with and then get you home," he said.
"Thanks," Haruhi said as she let Mori lead her to and up the stairs.
"Soldiers! We've returned with great news for all!" Hunny shouted from the ferry deck.
"One, we are happy to announce that Takashi Morinozuka is alive and he's back with us!"
A gasp fell among the crowd as Mori and Haruhi made their apperance. It was quickly followed by cheers.
Mori raised his hand to slightly silence the crowd.
"And we have come back with some good news," he said, "Thanks to Haruhi's good plan, the war is over. Suoh and Hitachiin have agreed to peace!"
The crowd cheered again, louder than before.
"And now we can work on what we had hoped to when we first joined forces, making this land a better place to live for everyone!"
The troops cheered louder.
"Let's hope we're on our way to a better day," Haruhi added just to save face.
"Yeah!" Mori said boldly. He picked Haruhi up and started to carry her bridal style through the crowd, as they continued to cheer them on.
"Here's to Takashi and Haruhi being reunited!" Benio shouted, "our future is full of hope again!"
"Do you think they will bring us an heir soon?" another voice shouted.
Haruhi blushed at thd question.
"It's nice to see peace come to your world, that's for sure," Haruhi said as the walked through their soldiers.
"Yes thank you for at least filling in and helping this happen while you were possessing my Haruhi's body," Mori said as he came to the secret room and walked in.
He pulled out the scepter and held it in his hands.
"You feeling ready?" he asked
"As ready as I'll ever be," Haruhi said.
"I'll try and be gentle with it," Mori promised as he raised it over Haruhi's head.
"So, should we do this already?" Haruhi asked as she nodded to the scepter in Kyoya's hand.
"I suppose it's the only thing we can do," Kyoya said.
"Thank you," Haruhi said. She looked at Mori real fast, "I'm not sure what this version of me feels about you. But if she were to fall for you as I did for my Takashi, she'd be a lucky woman."
"Thank you," Mori said.
Tamaki and the twins both whimpered at that comment.
"And am I greatful to you, that I got to see you one last time and properly say good bye," Haruhi said. She went and hugged Mori once more.
"Good bye my love," she whispered, "I will do best to protect and serve our people as you and I both wanted to."
"I know you will," Mori whispered.
"Thank you," Haruhi said as she turned back to Kyoya.
"I'm ready," she said.
"Now you may not end up in your world again, at least not right away," Kyoya reminded her as he lifted the scepter.
"That's alright, I'll know what to do," Haruhi said, "find a different scepter thing and wait a day before hitting my head with it again. I'll keep doing that for as long as it takes. And I hope you get your Haruhi back. Good luck."
"You too Haru-Chan," Hunny said.
"Thank you," Haruhi said.
"Do it"
"Do it,"
Both Haruhi's said together.
"Right,"
"Right"
Kyoya and Mori both said as they brought the scepter down on the girls' heads.
Haruhi stumbled and fell
Next thing she knew, she was moaning and holding her head.
"Haruhi, are you alright?!" she heard Hikaru shout. At least it sounded like Hikaru.
'Oh, no, pleaelse tell me I'm not in a different one!' she thought as she looked down and saw she was wearing a light purple girl school uniform.
'Damn it!' Haruhi thought mad only to see a scepter at her feet. This one looked like the one she had first she had seen when she was in the rich Haruhi's body, a blue diamond with a white handle.
'Am I somehow back in rich Haruhi's body?' she thought as she picked it up.
"Wow that looked like it hit you hard," Hikaru said behind her.
"I'm okay, really," Haruhi started to say as he turned around only to come face to face with someone who looked like Hikaru but at the same time didn't. Instead Hikaru seemed to have brown hair and eyes just like hers instead of his red hair and amber eyes.
"Hikaru?" Haruhi asked in confusion.
"Yeah, you okay sis?" Hikaru asked.
"Sis?!" Haruhi said, "as in sister?"
"Uh, yeah," Hikaru said with concerned, "we're twins after all, remember? You need to go see a nurse or something?"
"We're twins?!" Haruhi said in shock, "but what about Kaoru?!"
"I'm right here Haruhi, don't worry," Kaoru said as he came out from behind Hikaru. He at least looked normal to Haruhi.
"Don't worry, I won't try and steal Kaoru for myself if you're not all there," Hikaru assured her.
"Huh?!" Haruhi said as she held her head.
'I'm still not home!' she thought.
As Haruhi fell, Mori once again caught her.
"Does she look okay?" Hunny asked.
"She appears to be alright," Kyoay said, "but find her a place to lay down."
"Sure," Mori said as he carried her to the room Haruhi had used the night before.
"You're going to miss the Haruhi who liked you, aren't you?" Hunny whispered to him.
"Mmm," was Mori would mutter.
"It's okay, it was the right thing to do, letting her go back to her world," Hunny said as comfort, "at least that's where I hope she ended up."
"Yeah," Mori agreed.
"Should we get her some ice?" Kaoru asked as the other hosts circled around Haruhi as she laid unconscious.
Mori merely nodded before heading out.
"I really hope we get Haruhi back this time," Tamakk pleaded.
"Or at least get a personality that doesn't want to kill us," said Hikaru.
Just then Haruhi started to moan as she opened her eyes again. She looked around .
"Hikaru?" she called out.
"Hey she's remembering us!" Hiakru and Kaoru said together happily.
"I'm right here Haruhi!" Hikaru said as he came around closer to her.
Haruhi looked surprised to see him.
"Hikaru?" she said.
"Yeah. it's me, Haruhi," Hikaru assured her.
Haruhi stared at him in confusion before she started to laugh.
"What did you do?" she asked in between laughter. "When and how did you start looking like Kaoru?"
"What?" Hikaru and Kaoru both said in confusion.
"Seriously, you could almost be twins," Haruhi said. This caused the two to look at each, as though to reassure each other they still looked alike.
"Is this some weird joke or something?" Haruhi continued to ask as she stood up, or some weird twisted joke you're trying to use to get Kaoru for myself?"
"What?" Hikaru asked.
Haruhi smirked at Hikaru as she drapped her arms around Kaoru's shoulders.
"You may think you can seduce him by giving him a fantasy of kissing himself. But you'll still never be able to kiss him like this." Haruhi then used her hand make Kaoru face her and then he kissed him with passion.
"Hmm?" Kaoru muttered, shocked at first. However he couldn't help but enjoy the kiss while it lasted.
"Ahh!" Tamaki shouted in dismay.
Hikaru stared at the sight of Haruhi and Kaoru kissing, whatout a single idea of what to do next.
"So, that's not our Haru-Chan again?" Hunny asked.
"It would appear not," Kyoya said, I think we're dealing with a new personality.
"Oh," Hunny said a disappointed.
"Sorry Takashi."
"It's okay," Mori tried to insist.
"At least Kaoru seems to be enjoying this new one," Kyoya mentioned. He looked at Hikaru looking lonely.
"This Haruhi however may prove to be most intriguing," he added with a smirk
