Quirkless.
Weak.
Freak.
Deku.
These were the terms that plagued Midoriya's mind as he struggled through the foreign jungle wilderness with nothing but his wits, his yellow backpack, and enough fear and adrenaline to drown a tiger. Every growl and chirp in the wilderness made him flinch in fear of another monstrous beast waiting to devour him whole. Honestly, he was surprised that he made it this far without dying or collapsing in fear.
How did he get in this situation to begin with? Well, it started two days ago when he was shopping around.
The shopping district was full of life, with people all around shopping at their leisure. Meanwhile, Midoriya was just roaming around aimlessly as he tried to find the perfect birthday gift for his mother. Even if she didn't support his dreams of being a hero, she was the only one who showed love and care for him despite being quirkless. Although he felt guilty about not telling his mother about the things he had to go through at school, he knew it was for the best. The teachers never tried to help out the quirkless kid, always siding with those who had quirks, even if they were passive ones like changing one's eye or hair color.
He shook any lingering thoughts. Now wasn't the time to drown himself in sorrow when he should be looking out for the perfect gift. Unfortunately, he couldn't think of anything that his mother would like. Having a quirkless son apparently didn't let a lot of free time on hand, since if she wasn't fretting about her son at home, she was out of the house working. So he was sure anything involving a hobby or activity was out of the question. He also didn't know anything that involved fashion, so anything that dealt with clothing or accessories was also thrown out.
He sighed as he started to head out of another clothing store, frustrated with himself that he couldn't find a single gift. He had brought his yellow backpack out with him just in case he bought something too big to carry by hand. The only thing he had in his backpack was a couple of notebooks, some small snacks, and a change of clothes in case it had started to rain. He decided to make a final stop at a small pawn store before making his way to a small pawn store.
As he made his way through the store, he saw numerous items that piqued his interest and curiosity. The store had numerous items that were divided by sections that belonged to a particular genre. In one corner, some electronics were on sale that ranged from phones, Tv's, and videos games. Another had a wall that was lined with instruments such as trumpets and flutes. There was even a section that was filled with hero merch! He saw some limited editions that he struggled to find when they were initially released!
He shook his head to get back on track of his initial goal and made his way towards the antiques. He would have to come back another day. Maybe he could find something that would that she would like to see whenever she's at home? Yet he found another roadblock in the sense of price range. Most were far beyond the allowance of a typical thirteen-year-old, ranging anywhere between 80-500 U.S Dollars. Maybe he could sacrifice some of his All Might merch to buy one?
He kept scanning the shelves in hopes of finding one he could afford when a particular one caught his eye. It was a small treasure chest-like box that had a swamp aesthetic all around the bottom part of the chest. With trees, lily pads, and mushroom designs that wrapped around the bottom in a bronze-like shine. Yet the most outstanding piece was the top part of the chest. Three bright colorful gems: green, blue, and pink that stood out on the brown metallic box. A frog covered in the same bronze shine next to the gems seemingly worshiping the marvelous gemstones.
He didn't know what caused the creator to pick this particular art style, but he could admit that it gave off a certain charm to it. What confused him even further was the absence of a price. It was surrounded by expensive antiques and yet it had no value? He went to the front to get more information.
"That old thing? That has been here for quite some time.", the man at the register huffed, "I've been trying to sell it for a while, but I can't seem to get people to buy it." Then he looked down at the young man who inspected the chest with an analytical gaze. "You know what kid? You can have it, on the house."
Midoriya stopped his inspection to look at the man with wide eyes. "R-Really? I would hate to just take something from you without paying."
The man just waved him off, "Yeah, I'm sure. That thing has been here for as long as I can remember. I have a feeling you would get more use out of it more than me letting it collect dust in my shop."
The green-haired boy couldn't look more thankful as he stammered out a thanks to the shop owner. He still didn't want to leave without paying for anything, so he bought an All Might collector card along with the small chest. The man tried to refuse the payment when Midoriya wanted to give all the money he had in his wallet, going beyond the purchase of the card. Yet the stubborn young man wouldn't budge and pushed until the exchange was made.
Happy with the events that played out, he made his way home as he started to inspect the box once more. He noticed that there were some buttons on the sides of it, a wind-up feature as well. Maybe it was some sort of music box that plays a tune? He started to test it out as he fiddled with the controls as delicate as he can to avoid any damage. As he was making progress with it, he was brought out of his concentration when he heard a shout from behind him.
"Hey Deku! What the hell are you doing here?"
Turning around Midoriya was faced with blonde with piercing red eyes and a scowl on his face. He had his hand in his pockets and he strolled forwards. This person was Katsuki Bakugo, or as Midoriya calls him "Kacchan". Midoriya knew him ever since they were kids, with Bakugo getting his powerful quirk: Explosion. The amazing ability to send out powerful explosions from his hands with his sweat automatically put him as an ideal candidate for a hero. With others praising him and following him no matter what.
With Bakugo receiving a powerful quirk and Midoriya receiving nothing in terms of power, every encounter turned into an opportunity of belittling Midoriya for his dreams of being a hero. Since Bakugo deemed him worse than worthless, being nothing but a pebble as he made his way to the top. It didn't help that Midoriya would openly admire heroes in front of him. Midoriya was so focused on the person heading towards him that he failed to notice the bright glow the chest made from the inside.
"H-Hey K-Kacchan, just about to h-head on home. So no n-need to worry..."
"Worried? Why would I be worried about a useless nerd like you?", he growled out before he noticed a notebook sticking out of his backpack. Snatching it he read the cover as he bore his red glare into the frightened green ones in front of him.
"You are still doing this crap?", the explosive blond growled as he stomped his way towards the quirkless teen, "I thought I told you to stop dreaming since I'm the only one who's going to make it into UA out of all the other extras in our shitty school."
Midoriya was backing up as much as he could while Bakugo made his way forward. "MAYBE I HAVE TO BEAT IT INTO YOU SOME MORE!". He saw Bakugo start to make his signature right hook, but without the explosion since they were out in public. Either way, the punch did its job by landing a painful hit on Midoriya's shoulder, knocking the artifact out of his hands and onto the ground.
The box landed in between the two teenagers, opening with colorful sparks and emitting a bright white light that blinded them.
Midoriya opened his eyes to see nothing but foliage and wilderness all around him. He also seemed to have landed in the middle of a puddle, soaking him slightly as he stood up with a groan. He panicked as he heard low and deep growls in the foliage around them. He spotted the box a couple of feet away from him and quickly scooped it up and shoved it in his yellow backpack before he traveled deep into the jungle.
It has been two days since he traveled to another world. He wasn't even going to question the possibility of such an outrageous claim. Other than the mushrooms, small insects, and the thick trees all around, the wildlife he saw was unlike anything he encountered or read about. Giant monstrous beasts that he saw were always lurking about, forcing him to sleep in caves or small crevices at night. He tried to ration his snacks for as long as he can, but granola bars could only last so far. It also didn't help that he also lost one of his red shoes, so he walking around with one shoe and a sock. There were always leaves and twigs that got stuck in his messy green hair, so he quit trying to remove it after a while. It also didn't help that he had no idea how to get back home.
The once colorful and beautiful glowing gems that were on the box were now a lifeless grey, and he didn't know anything about the activation requirements. His stomach grumbled as he made his way forward until he heard someone humming a tune and... an accordion? Civilization? He made his way towards the sound in hope of finding someone who can help him get home...
*grumble*
….and maybe something to eat.
Hello, this is a new story that I thought would be fun to try. That being said don't expect updates as frequent as Adaptability. Let me know what you guys think of this story and what you hope to see.
