Bubble Guppies Teen Years: Thanksgiving Special
Chapter 1: The Party Organizer
In the present
We return to our present time. It was a cold November morning. Autumn was about to end. The end of the month was approaching. And of course, people were preparing for a holiday, Thanksgiving Day. We will focus on the home of the Imani family. Goby slept in her room before the alarm in her room sounded. He opened his eyes, gave a big yawn and got up. The boy stared at a piece of furniture in his room. There he had many photographs. One of them was of him along with the Bubble Guppies and Mr. Grouper. Another photo was of him and Deema together in fancy clothes. Deema hugged him a lot, and he smiled shyly. But the photograph that Goby was paying the most attention to was a family photo. It was Goby, Gabriel, his father and his mother. It was one of the few photos Goby had of his mother. Goby looked at the photo for a while.
"(sigh) Another Thanksgiving Day without a mom. How I miss you, mom" Goby confessed to himself.
"Goby! Hurry up! You'll be late for high school!" His dad called him.
"I'm coming, dad!" He answered. Wasting no more time, he decided to take a shower, change, and get ready for another day of school. After that, he met his father in the dining room.
"Good morning, Goby! I made you waffles. Your favorite breakfast!" Mr. Imani said with a smile.
"Oh...Thanks, dad..." Goby answered. He wasn't very happy and his dad noticed it.
"Son, is something bothering you? You usually love when I make you waffles for breakfast" His father asked him.
"Oh nothing, dad. I was just wondering about ... our Thanksgiving. It's tomorrow and well, I was just wondering if we're going to do the usual" Goby asked while he was playing with his fork.
"Oh….I know what you want to get to. Son, I know Thanksgiving hasn't been the same since your mom ... left us. But hey ... we still have to enjoy ourselves with our loved ones. Your brother, Megan and your nephews will arrive like every year" Mr. Imani explained.
"Sounds like a plan" Goby started to eat his waffles.
"You are older and I think you can help me too. If you have another idea, you can tell me" His dad added.
"Thanks Dad. I appreciate it" Goby answered with a smile.
"Now you must hurry. Don't you have to pick up your girlfriend?" Mr. Imani asked.
"Right!" Goby started eating his breakfast, trying to get ready for school.
After Goby left his house, he went to pick up his beloved girlfriend, Deema, at her house. He received her with a kiss on her cheek. They both talked about trivial things while going to school. It didn't take long for them to find other guppies. The day passed normally. Classes, breaks, lunch, more classes. The Bubble Guppies met outside the school to talk to each other.
"YOHOO! We don't have classes tomorrow. Day off!" Gil shouted excitedly.
"Do you at least know why we don't have classes tomorrow, Gilly?" Molly asked with a curious tone.
"Euh ... .Hannukah?" Gil answered confused. The rest giggled a little.
"That's the other month" Urchin intervened.
"Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, silly!" Molly laughed a little. He joined later.
"Speaking of which, does anyone have plans that day?" Oona asked.
"I think I'll do what I've always done: A dinner with my aunt" Zooli answered.
"I will spend it with my parents and younger brothers" Deema added.
"My mother does not like that celebration very much. So we may not do anything"
"Wait ... You really don't celebrate Thanksgiving?" Zooli was surprised.
"My mom is somewhat strict with traditions that are not hers" He answered.
"I guess that's all for today. So enjoy your Thanksgiving Day. See you later" Molly commented before somebody intervined.
"Stop, guys! I came up with a great idea" Goby commented with a big smile.
"Seriously? Tell us" Gil asked.
"How about we spend this Thanksgiving together?" Goby proposed this idea.
"You mean…." Molly was surprised.
"Yeah….All of us and….our families too!" Goby expressed.
"Are you talking seriously? We are not many people?" Zooli commented doubtfully.
"I know. So it will be a great party. Our families have never been together before. I guess it will be a great opportunity to spend it together. Of course I need your help" Goby explained his reasons.
"We could use the Bubbletucky Communal Ballroom. Not many people use that place" Molly proposed.
"Perfect! We will divide the tasks. My dad and I will take care of the main meal, that is, the turkey" Goby said with confidence.
"Are you sure? Don't you prefer that one of our moms take care of the turkey?" Oona asked. He denied with his head.
"No! I mean...Euh...We can take care of it" Goby was tense.
"You know that the turkey is the most important part of the party and it is a bit complicated ... if it goes bad …" Gil tried to convince him to reconsider it.
"Ouh...Are you saying that I can't do it?" Goby was bothered with his best friend.
"No no no I didn´t say it...I just..." Gil was surprised with his reaction.
"Grrr save it for yourself! I will teach you all that I can make the best Thanksgiving turkey. See you!" And Goby withdrew, annoyed straight towards his house. The guppies were shocked by what happened.
"I swear it was not my intention" Gil was nervous.
"We know, Gil. But….That is not the normal attitude of Goby. Something happens to him" Oona commented.
"For now, let's focus on doing our part. We must take care of inviting our families and reserving the place" Zooli added.
"I'll call Nonny. I do not know if he will answer me. He is ... far away from us" Oona said with a low tone. The rest noticed it. Nonny had temporarily left the city.
"We should invite Mr. Grouper too: He can help us" Molly proposed. All agreed. Still, one of those present was not paying attention. She was thinking about Goby's attitude recently.
Later, we see Goby arrive at his house.
"(sigh) I shouldn't have talked to Gil like that. But ... I know why I want to do this" Goby said it to himself "Changing the subject ... Where is dad?"
"Hi there!" His dad greeted him.
"Hi dad! I have to tell you something very important" Goby told him about the Thanksgiving dinner´s plan with all the families.
"Whoa...That sounds like an excellent idea. It will be an unforgettable experience" His dad was excited "What do we have to do?"
"We have to do the turkey. I know we can do it" Goby said confidently.
"I see...Well...I´ll need a lot of help, you know?" He commented.
"Count with me, dad!" His son smirked.
"Okay. I'll leave some things upstairs and we'll go shopping for the ingredients for the food" Goby's dad said that before going upstairs. However, the problems were about to start. Mr. Imani stumbled by accident while he was climbing the stairs and fell heavily to the ground.
"Dad! Are you okay?" Goby was scared. He tried to get up.
"I´m fi...agh...I can´t….Goby….call an ambulance now" Goby's father asked for that weakly. He tried to get up, but he couldn't.
It didn't take long for medical help to arrive. They took him to the hospital and Goby accompanied them. Luckily the attention was quick. Goby stayed in the waiting room at Bubbletucky General Hospital. He decided not to call his friends. He assumed the others were busy. Finally, the doctor called Goby and he rushed in to check on his father's condition.
"How is my dad, doc?" Goby asked.
"Nothing to worry about. It was a fall that unfortunately fractured a bone in his tail. But now he is much better. He just has to rest and not force his tail too much. We put a cast on him to make it easier for him to heal. You can go with your dad in a few minutes" The doctor explained. It was a relief. Her dad was fine, but there was a touch ... Thanksgiving dinner.
Some time later, they both arrived at the house and Goby helped his dad put him on his bed. Goby simply ordered something for both of them to eat that night. The teenager stayed with his dad most of the night until he fell asleep.
"Thanks for staying with me. Although it was not necessary" His dad commented.
"Dad, don't start talking like mom" Goby answered. Both giggled at the same time.
"It's too bad we have to cancel Thanksgiving dinner this year. I would have liked to cook with you for our family and the families of your friends" Mr. Imani remembered their plans.
"We're not canceling anything, dad. I ... I'll take care of dinner. I will cook" Goby said with a confident smile.
"Hehe are you sure? It is a great responsibility ... and it is too much for you alone" Mr. Imani asked.
"Trust me, dad. I´ll make the best turkey" He winked at him.
"Alright, boy! You...You remind me of your mother" His dad said with a smile in his face. Goby left him alone. He was a little sad. Mr. Imani didn't mean it badly, but he felt he shouldn't have said that. Her son just left his room and went to sleep. Not before saying something but before closing his eyes
"(sigh) I wish she was here"
