The gang were still on their way to Olivine City. At the moment they came to a village named Rikishii Town.
"This is a nice looking village." Misty complimented.
"Yeah, it also looks like what Japan used to look like four hundred years ago." Ember added.
"Feraligator!"
"Nido!"
The gang heard two Pokémon voices ahead of them. They went to see what the noises were about and what they saw, it was interesting.
Two Pokémon; a Nidoking and a big blue crocodilian-like Pokémon were like, wrestling against each other.
"What's that Pokémon?" Misty asked.
"It's a Feraligator." Brock said.
Ember took out her phone and scanned Feraligatr:
[Feraligatr, the Big Jaw Pokémon. The final evolved form of Totodile. Once a Feraligatr has clamped its powerful jaws around an opponent, it won't let go until the opponent is defeated.]
"I can't wait for my Croconaw to evolve into that Pokémon." Misty said, dreamily.
At that time Feraligatr was fighting a Nidoking, but neither of them was using attacks at each other. In fact what they were just doing was wrestling each other.
"It looks like the Pokémon are sumo wrestling." Ember stated.
Just then Feraligator tossed Nidoking to the ground, gaining a win.
"Feraligator!" It said.
"Next... Go!" The man behind Feraligator said.
Ember recognized him as Raiden, Feraligator's trainer.
(A/N: Don't confuse Raiden's name with Ember's Zeraora)
"Heracross!" The big horn Pokémon said, charging.
"Feraligator!" The big jaw Pokémon said, charging as well.
Both Pokémon wrestled each other.
"Erm, he's using all different sort of Pokémon to train his Feraligator." Ember said.
Feraligator continued to wrestle with other Pokémon and another after.
"Feraligator!" It roared.
"Wow." Misty awed. "So strong."
"Yeah and even after all those battles, Feraligator is ready for more." Brock commented.
"Granbull!" A Granbull came charging towards the Feraligator and holding its ground.
"Now throw it down Feraligator!" Raiden ordered.
"Very impressive, very impressive indeed." The old man behind the man commented.
"Feraligator!" The big jaw Pokémon tossed Granbull to the ground, earning another win. "Gator!"
"Nice work, lets take a little break." Raiden told his big jaw Pokémon.
"Your Feraligator has gotten much stronger Raiden." The old man complimented.
'Raiden' gave the old man a thumbs up, "Just you wait Shonosuke, this year were going to win the King's Rock." He told him.
Misty blinked, "What's a King's Rock?" She asked.
"A King's Rock is an item that allows Poliwhirl to evolve into Politoed and a Slowpoke evolve into a Slowking." Ember answered.
Shonosuke nodded and then he spotted the gang at the entrance of the door, "Hello youngsters." He greeted them.
"Hello." The gang said and introduced themselves to Raiden and Shonosuke.
"Sorry, we couldn't help but be curious what Feraligator was doing." Ember said.
"Ohoho, no problem. Their just practicing for the Sumo Conference that is happening today." Shonosuke answered.
"Sumo Conference?" Brock blinked, confused.
"What's that?" Misty asked.
"In Rikishii Town the Pokémon Battle is a little different, almost all of the trainers are into sumo wrestling and that's what we train Pokémon to compete in." Raiden explained.
"Sounds intense." Ember muttered.
"Oh by the way, my name is Raiden Konishi and this Shonosuke Tomita the Executive Director of the Pokémon Sumo Society."
"That's impressive." Brock said.
"Ahahaha..." Shonosuke gave a laugh, "It's only a title."
"Feraligator, back to training!" Raiden called out.
"Feraligator! Gator!" The big jaw Pokémon said, it walked towards a thick wooden pole and slammed its palms against it.
"You and your friends are in luck, the conference begins today." Shonosuke told them.
"Conference?" Misty blinked.
"Sumo Conference, right?" Ember questioned.
"That's right." Shonosuke nodded. "It's the event that Feraligator is training to compete in."
"What is the Sumo Conference?" Brock asked.
"It's a traditional wrestling match against two Pokémon must battle each other only using their physical strength without relying on their usual attacks." Shonosuke explained.
"Eh, sounds unique." Ember commented.
"It is. The no attack rule makes things much more interesting." Raiden commented. "Because it makes the trainer and Pokémon have to work that much closer and harder."
"Raiden and his Feraligator are expect to be the winner of the Sumo Conference this year." Shonosuke told them.
"Why is a King's Rock a prize?" Brock asked.
"Because the King's Rock looks like a crown and it makes the trainer and Pokémon, who won it, feels proud because of all their hard work training they've done to gain it." Shonosuke explained.
"Is it too late to enter?" Ember asked.
"No, if you want to enter Ember, you may. We welcome all types of trainers." Shonosuke told her. "Though you are the first ever female competitor to compete in."
"Really? That's great than. First time for everything." Ember smiled.
"But Ember, you've never entered one before." Misty said.
Ember gave Misty a smile, "That's true but when it comes to battles, I'm always up for a challenge, the more unique they are, the more interesting it is." She said, "Besides, I know the perfect Pokémon who would want to join this kind of competition."
Misty and Brock blinked in confusion, "Who?"
The gang said their goodbyes to Shonosuke and Raiden and they headed to the Pokémon Centre, where the resignation and weighting of the Pokémon is held.
For trainers to enter their Pokémon in the Sumo Conference, their Pokémon weight must be 80kg (176.4Ibs) or more.
"If your Pokémon has been official weighting, please wait in the Waiting Room." Nurse Joy said, "If not, step up to the scale."
Ember sent out Kangaskhan.
"Kangaskhan." The parent Pokémon said, appearing and hugged Ember, she was very happy to see her again.
"I'm happy to see you girl too." Ember smiled.
Ember explained to Kangaskhan about the Sumo Conference and Kangaskhan reaction was expected, she loves to fight and this tournament sounds amazing to be in. Prof. Oak had called to her earlier and told her that Kangaskhan was enjoying fighting with the Fighting type Pokémon at the corral. So Ember knew that Kangaskhan would enjoy this tournament.
"Kangaskhan Khan." The parent Pokémon nodded.
And so Ember and Kangaskhan both went to Nurse Joy and Chansey who are in charge of the resignation of the Pokémon Sumo Conference and they both signed up for the Sumo Conference Tournament.
Soon the Pokémon Sumo Conference had begun.
The Pokémon that were entering, apart from Feraligatr and Kangaskhan, were Golem, Rhydon, Blastoise, Lickitung, Heracross, Poliwrath, Machamp, Ursaring, Nidoking, Nidoqueen, Quagsire, Golduck, Granbull and Ursaring.
"Welcome to the 35th Annual Pokémon Sumo Conference. As always we have a heavy weight competitors for wrestling matches... But. Only one will walk away the winner." Shonosuke announced, "As always the victorious winner will win the King's Rock, in addition the winner will also receive a one year supply of Pokémon Food."
"Losing Pokémon will be eliminated and winners will advance until the last two winning opponents face each other for the crown. Good luck to all and may the best Pokémon win!"
Soon the first match of the Pokémon Sumo Conference began. The first match was between an Ursaring and a Nidoqueen. The Pokémon charged at each other each and were trying to push one another out of the ring.
"Pokémon Sumo Wrestling looks more rough and tough than I thought it would be." Misty said.
"From the looks of things, trying to push opponent out of the ring is pretty difficult." Brock commented.
In the end, Nidoqueen won the first match.
Next up was Raiden's turn. His Feraligatr was up against a Golem.
"Golem is heavier than Feraligator, so this match might be difficult for it." Brock said.
"True, but don't forget that Raiden has trained his Feraligator a lot for this Sumo Conference, don't underestimate it just yet." Ember responded.
Feraligatr and Golem were trying to push one another out of the ring like crazy. Just then Raiden told Feraligatr to step back a bit; once Feraligatr did that Golem fell over a bit.
Then Raiden told Feraligatr to strike; Feraligatr hit Golem hard on the head and then Golem collapsed out of the ring, giving Feraligatr the win.
"That Golem weights four times than Feraligator!" Brock awed.
"Using both their strength and weakness is amazing." Ember said.
After a few more rounds, it was finally Ember's and Kangaskhan's turn.
"From the East... Poliwrath!" The judge announces, "From the West... Kangaskhan!"
"Poliwrath." The tadpole Pokémon said.
"Kangaskhan." The parent Pokémon said.
Kangaskhan's baby was sitting Tesla between Misty on the bench, cheering for her mom.
"Face your opponent." The judge announced, "Let the match... Begin!"
"Go Poliwrath, aim for the stomach!" Poliwrath's trainer commanded.
"Poliwrath!" The tadpole Pokémon charged towards the parent Pokémon.
"Stand your ground." Ember said.
Kangaskhan stood still, as Poliwrath got closer, she grabbed its arms and tossed it out of the ring. "Kangaskhan." She said.
"Uh, what happened?!" Poliwrath's trainer's jaw dropped, his Pokémon was out already.
"..." Ember blinked, surprised and amused by this.
"... Kangaskhan is the winner!" The judge declared, shocked himself.
Raiden and Shonosuke were both surprised by quick defeat of Poliwrath and the strength that Kangaskhan had.
Brock and Misty's jaw dropped at this, "So fast!" They gawked.
Baby Kangaskhan cheered.
"Rairai!" Tesla cheered.
"I knew that Kangaskhan were strong, but that was unbelievable." Misty commented.
"Yeah, especially since Poliwrath would normally have the advantage of a Kangaskhan." Brock agreed, "But still, the strength of Kangaskhan is astounding."
"The time has come for the Semi Finals of the Sumo Matches." Shonosuke told the remaining competitors, "Feraligator VS Blastoise and Kangaskhan versus Machamp."
"Good luck Raiden, I hope we meet in the finals." Ember told him.
"Me too." Raiden said.
"From the East... Feraligator!" The judge announces, "From the West... Blastoise!"
"Feraligator..." The big jaw Pokémon said.
"Blastoise..." The shellfish Pokémon said.
"Wow, two Water-type Starters going head to head." Misty said.
"This will be an interesting match." Ember added.
"I have to agree." Brock agreed.
"Wrestlers ready? Face your opponent." The judge announces, "And... Begin!"
Both final evolved Water-type of Kanto and Johto starter, glared at each other.
"Lets go, charge it!" Raiden said.
"Come on Blastoise's lets win it!" Blastoise's trainer said.
"Gator!" Feraligator charged forward.
"Blastoiseee." Blastoise charged forward as well.
Both Water-types head to head, claws in claws, as they both held their ground against each other.
"Push it away!" Raiden said.
Feraligator pulled Blastoise, trying to make it lose balance but it didn't work, the shellfish Pokémon held its ground.
"Blastoise, jump on it." Blastoise's trainer ordered.
"Blastoiseee!" The shellfish Pokémon did a small jump.
"Hurry!"
"Dodge it Feraligator!"
The big jaw Pokémon dodges Blastoise, making the shellfish Pokémon facing backwards.
"Feraligator go!" Raiden said.
"Feraligatorrr!" Feraligator slammed its palm onto the shellfish Pokémon shell, forcing Blastoise to move forward but it wasn't enough for an out ring.
Raiden gritted his teeth, it wasn't enough.
"Blastoise, force it arm!" Blastoise's trainer commanded.
"Blastoise BlastoiseBlastoiseBlastoise!" Blastoise arms were both moving forwards and backwards, hitting Feraligator, forcing the big jaw Pokémon to move backwards.
"Woah." Ember said.
"I've never seen Blastoise move like that before." Brock said.
Blastoise continues its arm assault and Feraligator is almost at the end of the line.
"Oh no!" Misty gasped. "Feraligator is almost out of the ring!"
"Go Blastoise!" Blastoise's trainer shouted out.
"Blastoise!" Blastoise charged.
"Palms together and twist!" Raiden countered.
"Feraligator!" Feraligator ducks down, avoiding the arm thrust-like attack and grabbed the shellfish Pokémon by the head and threw it away, out of the ring.
"Blastoise's is out! Feraligator wins!" The judge declared.
Raiden smiled, "Hey, we did it again old buddy!" He said.
"Gatorrrrr!" Feraligator roared out.
Misty sighed in relief, "That was a close match." She said.
"Yeah." Brock agreed.
"Kangaskhan." Kangaskhan started to move her arms up and down.
The gang looked at the parent Pokémon.
"You want to battle against Feraligator, don't you?" Ember asked.
"Kangaskhan Kanga." Kangaskhan nodded.
"We'll need to win the next match and then we can face against Feraligator." Ember told her Pokémon.
Machamp charged towards the parent Pokémon, who she grabbed the upper arms and tossed the superpower Pokémon out of the ring.
"Kangaskhan wins!" The judge declared.
It was time for the Final Match of the Sumo Conference; Feraligator versus Kangaskhan.
"I'm impressed Ember, you and Kangaskhan have come a long way, especially since your the first girl to enter this tournament and made it to the finals." Raiden told her.
Ember arched an eyebrow, at that information, she heard that from Shonosuke as well, "It's actually fun and very helpful to those who wants to test their strength and skill." She said.
Raiden chuckled, "I'm glad your enjoying it. But I came here to win this. Can't go easy on you, just because you're a beginner." He said, seriously.
Ember smirked at Raiden, "Kangaskhan and I don't want you two too, where's the challenge in that." She retorted.
Raiden smirked.
Shonosuke came up to the two finalist and looked at Ember, "You got to be proud of yourself Ember, your the very first rookie to ever make it to the final match. And you're the first female in 35 years to enter as well." He told her.
Ember nodded.
"Now you two, give it your very best." Shonosuke told them both.
"Yes sir." Ember and Raiden said.
"From the East... Feraligator! From the West... Kangaskhan!" The judge announced.
Both Feraligator and Kangaskhan stared down at each other.
"Face your opponent... Begin!" The judge announced.
Both Pokémon charged at each other and they fought like crazy.
"Feraligator!" The big jaw Pokémon charged towards the parent Pokémon, who dodges it and kept on dodging.
"Sorry Raiden but your Feraligator gotta be faster to catch Kangaskhan." Ember told her opponent.
"Than watch this, Ember." Raiden smirked, "Feraligator show them your speed!"
"Gatorrr!" Feraligator charged at Kangaskhan again with enough speed and started to push the parent Pokémon backwards.
"Oh no!" Misty gasped.
"This is bad." Brock said.
Baby Kangaskhan squeaked, worried for her mother.
"Raichu! Rairai Raichu! (Come on you two! You can do it!)" Tesla encouraged Ember and Kangaskhan.
"Don't think so! Kangaskhan, stand your ground!" Ember shouted.
"Kangaskhan!" Kangaskhan stomped on her left leg and then managed to push the big jaw Pokémon backward herself.
"That Kangaskhan is impressive... But it ends now. Let's go Feraligator!" Raiden said.
"Feraligatorrr!" Feraligator roared out.
"Kangaskhannn!" Kangaskhan roared back.
Both Feraligator and Kangaskhan went out each other once again; but adding tosses, they tired to toss each other out.
"Kangaskhan!" The parent Pokémon roared and she stomped her foot on the ground, a loud 'THUD' was heard and the area shook.
"Feraligator!" The big jaw Pokémon said, shocked and lost its balance.
"Kangaskhan, push Feraligator out of ring!" Ember said, seeing the chance.
"Kangaskhan Khan!" The parent Pokémon, pushes the big jaw Pokémon backwards and out of the ring.
"Kangaskhan is the new Champion!" The judge declared.
"Hooray! The young rookie made it all the way to the top." Shonosuke said, cheerfully.
"Yahooo! They did it!" Misty cheered.
"Toge Toge Togephrii!" Togepi cheered.
"They both did great." Brock said.
"Raichu! Rai!" Tesla cheered.
Baby Kangaskhan smiled, happily.
"Don't feel badly, you were great." Raiden told his Feraligator.
"Gator." The big jaw Pokémon said.
"And so for recognition triumphs over Raiden Konishi and his Feraligator, I declare Ember Ketchum and Kangaskhan the winner of the 35th Annual Pokémon Sumo Conference and it is my honor to present them the King's Rock, proof of their victories." Shonosuke announced.
Ember and Kangaskhan stood in front of Shonosuke.
"Congratulations to you, Ember." Shonosuke said.
"Thank you very much sir." Ember said, she took the King's Rock. "Looks interesting, doesn't it Tesla?"
Tesla nodded, "Raichu!"
"And don't forget your other prize." Shonosuke reminded her.
Nurse Joy stood beside the boxes of Pokémon food, "A one year supply of Pokémon Food." She said.
Ember looked at all the boxes, there are fourteen Pokémon food boxes. "Erm, what should I do with all of them?" She questioned.
"Maybe you could send some of them to Professor Oak, Brock's Family, and my sisters." Misty answered.
"That works for me." Ember agreed and she asked Nurse Joy, if she could sent some of them to these addresses, three boxes each and she kept two boxes.
"Ember." A voice called out to her.
"Huh?" Ember turned around and saw Raiden.
"Congratulations on your win." Raiden said.
Both Ember and Raiden shook hands.
"Thank you and thanks for the great match." Ember told him.
Raiden smiled, "I hope you have the same success in the Johto League." He said.
"Thank you."
Kangaskhan and Feraligator gave a hand shake to each other.
And so with the Sumo Conference over and the victor is Ember and Kangaskhan, who was the amazing Kangaskhan, she came all the way for the win in the Pokémon Sumo Conference, she triumphed over all the power Pokémon. With the Pokémon sumo conference taken care of, the gang said goodbye to Raiden and Shonosuke, and left Rikishii Town to continue their journey to Olivine City.
