After many adventures and many new friends, the gang have arrived at Scarlet City on Red Rock Isle, sight of the Whirl Cup Competition.

The gang saw lots of posters and banners of Whirl Cup symbol.

"Wow. Look at all these." Misty said, looking at the symbols.

"They're everywhere." Ember added.

"Let's head to the Pokémon Centre first so Ember and Misty can register for the Preliminary Rounds." Brock commented.

"Right." Ember and Misty said.

So the gang headed towards the Pokémon Centre where the registration is being held.

When the gang arrived at the Pokémon Centre, inside it was filled with trainers.

Nurse Joy was typing up things on the computer, "Next entry. Step up please." She said.

"Nurse Joy, I would like to enter in the Whirl Cup Competition." Ember told her.

"Me too Nurse Joy." Misty said.

"That's fine. Please tell me your name and where your from." Nurse Joy told them.

"Ember Ketchum from Pallet Town."

"Misty Waterflower from Cerulean City."

Nurse Joy typed up the information into her computer, "These names. Well, it's going to be an interesting competition this year." She said to herself, "Now then, the preliminaries will take place in several stadiums." She held up a map, "This will help you locate them. Ember, you'll be in Stadium A." She gave the map to Ember.

"Okay, thank you." Ember takes the map.

"Rai." Tesla said.

"And Misty, you'll be in Stadium B." Nurse Joy hands the Cerulean City Gym Leader a map also.

Misty takes it, "Thank you."

"Togepriii." Togepi said.

"How rounds are there going to be?" Ember asked.

"After the preliminary rounds, only 64 trainers will be allowed to battle in finals." Nurse Joy explained, "But the number of preliminary rounds depends on the number of the total entrances." She typed more things up, "Let's see. Base on the total number of entries of this year competition... It looks like... Two wins is needed to move onto the finals."

"I see." Ember said.

"We'll see each other in the finals, Ember." Misty said to Ember. "Consider this a rematch."

Ember smiled, "You betcha Misty."

Brock was reading the rules, "Hmm."

"Anything we need to know Brock?" Ember asked.

"There is. Apparently, if you lose one match you'll be out of the competition." Brock replied.

"How many Pokémon can we use?" Misty asked.

"It's says here, that for the Preliminary Rounds you may use only one Water Pokémon." Brock read from the guide book, "In the second and third round you use two Water Pokémon and then in the Semifinals and Final Round, you use three Water Pokémon."

"Throughout the whole competition, does the Pokémon have to be the same?" Misty asked.

"No, the challengers can choose whatever Water Pokémon they want, as long as they have the amount of Pokémon they need to use in the Challenges." Brock answered, after reading.

"Ermm, I have a few Water Pokémon. It's hard to choose." Ember said.

"Same. I have lots." Misty commented.

"What Pokémon are going to use in the preliminaries round Ember, Misty?" Brock asked.

"I'm going with Kingdra." Ember replied.

"And I'm going with Wooper and Corsola." Misty replied.

The next day is the day of the Whirl Cup Competition Preliminaries Round, were underway.

Ashlyn was in Stadium A and her opponent is standing on the other side of the field.

Tesla and Brock were here, standing siding the side, cheering her on.

"Kingdra, lets go." Ember sent out the dragon Pokémon.

"Dra!" The dragon Pokémon appeared.

"Go Seel." The trainer sent out the sea lion Pokémon.

"Seel!" Seel appeared.

"Ice Beam now!" The trainer commanded first.

"Seeeel!" The sea lion Pokémon fires an icy beam towards the dragon Pokémon.

"Dra!" Kingdra easily dodges it.

"Dragon Pulse and Iron Head." Ember said.

Kingdra fires a greenish blue orb from his snout and it destroyed the frozen area, turning back to water and he swims forwards with his head glowing metallic color, "King-Dra!" He headbutt the sea lion Pokémon.

"Seeelll!" The sea lion Pokémon cries out, as it was sent flying.

"Ah!" The trainer cried out as he was hit by this know Pokémon.

Ember and Kingdra wins the first match of the preliminary.

Misty and Wooper also wins the first match of the preliminary.

Ember's next opponent was a trainer with Shellder.

Shellder uses Tackle and it hits the dragon Pokémon.

"Dra!" Kingdra stand his ground in the water as he was hit.

"Kingdra use Hydro Pump now!" Kingdra fires a large stream of water towards the bivalve Pokémon, sending it away from him to the wall of the field.

Ember and Kingdra won the second preliminary round. Misty and Corsola won her own battle as well. They're both moving into the next round.

The gang met up at the Pokémon Centre.

"Heya Misty!" Ember called out.

"How did you do?" Brock asked.

"An easy win." Misty replied. "How about yours?"

"Kingdra won both." Ember said.

"Rai Rai!" Tesla said.

"Tomorrow is when the real competition will being." Misty said, excitedly, "I just can't wait."

Ember nodded, "Yeah."

"So what do we do now? I mean the Whirl Cup starts tomorrow." Misty said.

"We might as well relax for the rest of the day." Brock suggested.

The gang saw no problem with relaxing till tomorrow.

Misty called the Gym to see if her sisters were keeping up the reputation that she made and also how her new Pokémon was doing there. Her sisters were glad to have new Pokémon for the gym and told Misty that they are doing very well.

Ember called her mother and Delia was delighted when she saw the gift Ember sent her, it has arrived early, it was beautiful.

Brock phoned his family, his mother answered and he saw some of the Shuckle in the background playing with his youngest siblings, happily.

After all the phones called the gang and Misty were talking their next plan.

"What are you going to do now?" Ember asked.

"I'm starting here at the Pokémon Centre." Brock said and he yawned in response. "I kinda of stayed up too late last night."

"I'm heading to the stores. But first I want to evolve my Poliwhirl into a Politoed." Misty said, simply.

"We can do a mock trade." Ember offered.

"Okay." Misty agreed.

Soon the two got prepared for the trade and traded their Pokémon. Misty's Poliwhirl was now a Politoed which both were happy about. Then Ember and Misty switched back. After that, Brock stayed at the Pokémon Center while Misty went to go shopping. Ember went to go sightseeing, getting some ice cream at some point.

Later it was night and time for bed.

Brock went back to his own room while Ember and Misty headed back to their room.

However Misty couldn't sleep.

"Misty, sleep, you'll need all the energy for tomorrow." Ember mumbled and dozed off to sleep.

Misty sighed, "You're right." Turning off the lamp light beside the bed, she slept.

The next day, was the day of the Whirl Cup. The trainers who has made it pass the Preliminary Rounds all gathered at the cliff. Below the cliff, there was an ancient coliseum, in the ocean, covered up the water. Suddenly the water in the ocean went down and the coliseum completely revealed itself with the seats and battle ground.

"Oh, wow." Ember said.

"So this the Whirl Cup Coliseum." Brock said, impressed.

"Rai." Tesla said.

"It's amazing." Misty said, "The Whirl Cup Competition field."

And so our heroes finally fest their eyes on the majestic battle field that is home to the Whirl Cup Competition. Make no mistake their adventure is just beginning.

A/N: Since the competition is going on, I won't put up the Pokémon caught since Ember's not catching any Pokémon.
