The five made their way to the village, Ainz sent out a few eight edged assassins earlier, and the messages they were sending didn't paint a pretty picture. As the village came into view, all they could see were burnt houses. He sent the other two Death Knights ahead to assist the first, though he knew it was too late.

A choked sob left Enri's lips, she quickly covered Nemu's eyes in hopes she didn't see anything. The villagers were all dead, no child or elder were spared. The only slight good to come from it was that the knights were being killed, but that didn't bring back the dead. She cried in Mare's cloak, he just put a hand on her back for comfort. What BukubukuChagama told him and Aura had put things in perspective. This wasn't a game like Yggdrasil, people can't respawn, and the girl crying into his cloak had everything taken from her.

Mare wasn't blind to Ainz's actions like the rest anymore, he could see the spark in the Overlord's eyes. Despite his failure in saving the village, he did save Enri. The peasant girl holds a lot of potential in her, possibly enough to save many more villages. Mare couldn't know though, his wisdom perks didn't offer fortune telling.

They reached the town square as the Death Knights finished off the last of the knights. Mare went over to the one with slightly different armor, using a resurrection spell before pulling the knight to his feet. The knight began to scream incoherently with all the dead knights around him, Mare quickly grabbed the knights head and used Siphon Wisdom. The knight couldn't even scream before slumping over, bleeding out of every hole in his face. The angel turned to Ainz before speaking. "From what I could find in his memories, this was all a set up for this kingdom's warrior captain, Gazef Stronoff."

As soon as Enri heard the warrior captain's name, she shouted. "No! Why would they do that!?" Aura had quickly grabbed Nemu, it was clear Enri hit a breaking point. "They slaughtered everyone here just to kill him!? They, they probably destroyed so many other villages." She was angry, not just at trying to kill one of they few good people in this world, but how many had to suffer just for that.

Then it struck Enri like a lightning bolt, the nobles knew. There was no mistaking it, they probably were skipping around the towns, giddy that the king's personal guard was going to die. It's why the noble that collects their taxes didn't say anything, he knew they were going to die.

The thoughts kept swirling around in her head, just how heartless and cruel the nobles were. She couldn't handle the reality of it all and collapsed to the ground, screaming her lungs out as she cried. What kind of kingdom destroys itself for such petty gains?

Mare went to help Enri, but was stopped by Ainz. As the angel looked to the Overlord's eyes, he could practically hear what was being said. " I guess this is a sort of test, a make or break moment for her. It's cruel, but the supreme beings dealt with such tragedy everyday in their world." Mare thought, he looked up to his sister, watching her comfort Nemu, who looked ready to cry as well.

Eventually Enri got to her knees, her eyes red and puffy, but somehow her expression looked hardened. She got up and faced Ainz, who had ordered Mare and the Death Knights to bury the villagers' bodies. "Mister Gown, I know I may not be much, but please let me and my sister join you." She begged, bringing her hands to her chest. "I can learn quickly, and while Nemu can't do anything now, I'll more than make up on her behalf till she comes of age and beyond that, just please don't leave us here!" She fell back to her knees, even Nemu was giving Ainz the puppy dog eyes, which looked even sadder since she had been crying.

Ainz just looked at the kneeling girl, his mind had already been made up, but he was still asking himself why. " I mean it would be a waste to just leave her after what I've done, but she's just a peasant, what could really come out of that?" His mind wandered towards his earlier days in Yggdrasil. He knew it wasn't a very good comparison, but technically every player started as a peasant. " I suppose this could be the start, couldn't it?"

Ainz kneeled down, placing his right hand on Enri's shoulder. "There is no need for worry, it would be pointless to leave you now after I saved you." He spoke in a softer voice, helping Enri to her feet as he got up. "However you will have to work hard, I have big plans for you, and you have big shoes to fill." He spun with dramatic flare, ready to speak again till he suddenly received a message.

Ainz waited at the edge of the ruined village with Aura and Mare. Enri and Nemu were sent back to Nazarick with orders to treat the sisters like they would a member of the guild. Thankfully from what Aura told him, Yuri Alpha and Sebas were the ones to receive them. So he had faith they'd be fine when he returned.

Though that brought up another question, he knew he was going to restart the guild when the servers shut down, but did that really mean just finding random people here and asking if they'd like to join the guild? " Thinking about it now, that actually isn't much different from how it's done in game." He chuckled a bit mentally before focusing back on the current situation.

In the distance there were a couple dozen men on horses making their way to the village, one of the eight edged assassins informed him of it after telling him about the magic casters surrounding the village. From what Mare had gotten from the knight, the whole plan the Theocracy had was falling into place. He would've called it clever if they actually kept it secret.

The troops arrived, all of them stopping as they saw the two dark elves and the masked caster. One eventually rode forward, he looked much stronger than the others. He got a couple meters away from the three before speaking. "I am the Warrior Captain Gazef Stronoff, I was sent by the kingdom to deal with a group of knights attacking villages in the outskirts. May I ask your name and what you're doing here?"

Ainz gave a slight bow before replying. "I am Ainz Ooal Gown, a magic caster. I was traveling with my compatriots when we saw the smoke. By the time we arrived the villagers were dead, but the knights had stayed so we struck them down."

Gazef knew nothing about the three, but his many years of maneuvering through the nobel's tricks and lies showed the man spoke only the truth. In response he gave a small sigh. "I must thank you then Sir Gown, if only we could have arrived earlier to help these villagers, but at least there's no worry about anymore lost villages." His voice was full of regret, but still held gratitude.

Suddenly another of Gazef's troop had ridden over, having split off from the main group a while ago. He looked panicked, but still had enough energy to speak clearly. "Captain, the village has been surrounded! At least a few dozen men in caster robes."

Gazef looked over to Ainz. "Did you know about this?"

"I had learned of it from one of the knights attacking, this whole situation was meant to kill you." Ainz said, looking over to Mare. The angel just nodded before walking a distance away before beginning to summon angels. "There is no need to worry though Warrior Captain, I had recently taken someone into my care who would hate to see her idol die." Ainz continued, Gazef just watched in awe as Mare continued summoning angels.

Nigun was having a great day, his patience had easily brought Gazef into their trap. A few of his scouts informed him that there was a necromancer in the village summoning undead. So this mission will allow him to wipe out a possible member of Zuranon. "The gods have blessed us to today, we cannot waste it." He spoke to his fellow members of the sunlight scripture, summoning his own angel, the Principality of Observation.

A couple minutes later, things immediately began to go wrong, Nigun looked up to the sky, watching as some figures in the distance fly closer. It's immediately clear they're angels, and much more powerful than the Archangel Flames. "They plan to attack from the sky with our holy summons, prepare!" Nigun shouted The angels were similar to his Principality of Observation, but their armor covered more, and they wielded large swords instead of a mace.

Despite the rest of the scripture preparing with more angels and protection spells, it had proven useless against these powerful angels. They slaughtered angel and caster alike, batting aside spells and striking them down with a single strike. Despite Nigun's efforts, his spells were useless. The angels seemed to ignore him entirely, even his buffed summon couldn't stand a chance against these angels. He fell to his knees, why had the gods forsaken him? He was a man of the faith, this mission was their divine will. Unless, maybe is wasn't?

Nigun was soon the only one left alive, left to watch as Gazef Stronoff and a masked caster arrived. The two stopped twenty meters away, the angels kneeled, though he couldn't tell to who. "I fear things haven't gone as you expected, but I am a man of mercy, and offer you a deal." The caster spoke, pausing a moment for effect. "Surrender now, and I will bring you no harm. Continue this farse however, and you will wish I killed you." Nigun couldn't believe the idiocy of the caster, he thought things to be hopeless, but they practically screamed they were the summoner of the angels. If he used the treasure of the Theocracy, summoning the angel of the highest order. All it would take was one strike, and he could return victorious.

As he reached into his coat for the summoning crystal, something appeared beside him. He turned to see a being shrouded in darkness, yet radiating a holy aura unlike any he's felt before. Nigun stumbled backwards onto the ground, backing away from the being. "Wh-what are you, are you the god's graces manifest? Have you come to claim those worthy, or damn those who are not?" His words and mind were a whirlwind of confusion. It was clear now this was what summoned the angels, but why would it strike down those of the scripture?

The being reached towards him, grabbing the crystal he forgot was in his hands. The crystal was soon gone, vanishing into a small black hole. Before Nigun could say anything, it spoke. "That crystal contained the seventh tier angel Dominion Authority. While it isn't all that powerful, it's holy magic would be enough to hurt Lord Ainz." Despite it's slight anger, Nigun couldn't help but enjoy it's voice, sounding like a wind chime in an autumn breeze. "For this, I will take all you know."

He didn't get long to wonder what the being meant before his entire body screamed in agony. His nerves both burned and were numb, his muscles twitched, heart beating in irregular patterns. Everything within him began to fall apart and lose function, soon forgetting who he was. Who did he work for, why was he here, what's here, who was he, what is he? Many questions swarmed his head as all he knew ceased to be.

[Line Break]

Mare just stared at the hollowed corpse on the ground, his Siphon Wisdom skill was very useful despite it's gruesome nature. This man knew so much more than the knight, some of the knowledge was a bit worrying however. Though it only seemed to answer some questions while giving a lot more. " Who summoned us here? So many players given god-like strength, only to fall to their own hubris. Are we next, or are we the exception?" The question disturbed him, but he knew all they could do at this point is guess. Eventually his sister Aura walked over, having finished dealing with the stragglers who ran away.

"So the theory run true, we got other players here?" She asked, crouching down to look at the corpse, and the familiar gear he wore.

"Yeah, they've been dead for a long time though, along with some called the greed kings. There may be others, but nothing's known." Mare said, picking up the body and tossing it into a gate that opened in front of them. The Death Knights showed up to throw the other bodies into the gate. The twins went over to Ainz and Gazef, the latter looking dazed at the casual might the three around him used.

Eventually the Warrior Captain gave one last thank you before leaving, returning to his troops so they may find somewhere to sleep for the night. Ainz turned to the twins. "You two ready? We have a lot to explain to the rest of Nazarick once we return." He asked, Aura just laughing before wrapping her arm around Ainz.

"I think you mean you have a lot to explain, I don't even want to think about how you're going to convince Demiurge this isn't a part of some ten thousand year plan." She chuckled, Ainz only sighing in response. A new gate opened up for them, and as they stepped through, the overlord couldn't help but feel excited.

" Things may not have gone as expected, but this isn't the first curveball life sent my way. I'll persevere as I always have, except this time I have people to help with that." He thought, his eyes glowing a brilliant red at what the future holds.

/Author Notes/

Yay first volume complete!

Of course that obviously ain't the end, I got stuff planned out for the first season, and things are only going to go further off the rails from there.

Something I want to disclose, this story is about Ainz collecting characters (I.E. the cute girls) of the new world and creating a new guild with them. They're going to reach level 100.

Anyways, I have no idea what the new guild is gonna be, I'm thinking something relating to the title, but if you guys have any suggestions, feel free to let me know. Anyway, peace out people.
