Tezuka Meets His Match
Occasionally Tezuka's father would try to bridge the distance between father and son by doing something a "cool" dad would. Like buy sparkly new gadgets. (No one had the heart to tell him that Kunimitsu was utterly disinterested in such things.) Of course, it cost a lot, nearly as much as the computer system upstairs - which he only (and rarely) used for homework. What could Tezuka do but load his favourite songs onto the mp3 player? The next day, he walked to school, as usual, but every time a car passed by (quite frequently), the strains of his beloved classicals would disappear into the growling of the engine, or worse, the roaring of the broken muffler.
This caused the regulars no small amount in laps that afternoon, and the one after that, and the one after that...
Oishi would have suggested leaving it at home and thereby injuring his father's feelings; Inui would have suggested turning the volume up, but Tezuka had no desire to destroy his eardrums- one wrenched shoulder was quite enough, thank you; Eiji would have demanded it since "Buchou obviously has no use for it nya!"; Fuji would have said nothing and smiled aplenty; Taka would have been too shy to speak up; Momo wouldn't have troubled himself; Kaidoh would have patted his reliable CD player affectionately (when no one was around, of course); and Echizen would have muttered "Mada mada dane" to himself and then gone home. Ryuzaki only guffawed to herself.
The Monday after there were eight CD's on the practice bench.
Tezuka got the hint.
