The gang entered the room and walked toward Ophelia now.
"We were looking for you. Why are you all alone here?" Vincent asked her.
"I- I can't say," she told him.
"But you can," Asamad calmly stated. "Just tell me what's going on and I will help you, and so will the others."
"No! I don't need your help. You are probably going to leave me soon anyways. I'm surprised you didn't already do so."
Everyone else exchanged confused glances at each other.
"You thought he was going to leave you?" Daphne contemplated.
"Listen, I'm not going to leave you, I promise," Asamad said.
"That's not what you said when you walked out on me all those years ago!" Ophelia yelled.
Everyone else gasped.
"Rou walked rout on rher?" Scooby repeated.
Asamad sighed and put his face in his hands in utter guilt. The memory of what he told his wife before he walked out on her all those years ago had finally fully resurfaced at this very moment.
Many years ago:
"How could you do this to me? To our only son? To our friends?" Ophelia shouted, following Asamad through the corridor. "Do NOT walk away from me, for you know it is evil to use your magic to bend everyone to your will!"
Asamad, who was in his human form at the time, turned around and stared at her.
"Silence!" he shot back. "You are acting foolish. You have no idea how much my magic is important to me."
"I am not acting foolish, that is what you are doing! You have to decide right now what is more important, your magic or me? Be honest."
The warlock seemed to think about it in silence for a moment.
"Well, what is your choice?" the witch asked.
"My magic," he confessed.
Ophelia stood there in shock, trying not to let tears escape from her eyes.
"How could you say that to me…?" she gasped.
"You wanted me to choose honestly, so I did," he told her.
"But I thought you loved me! You once promised that you would be with me for all of eternity, don't you remember?"
Asamad started to walk quickly towards the front doors of the castle now.
"Well, that promise is now broken," he swore. "I never want to see you ever again!"
"Don't go!" she begged.
He then slammed the doors shut, and he was officially gone, leaving Ophelia and his home as he knew it.
Present Day:
"Ophelia, I am so sorry," Asamad apologized, removing his hands from his face and looking at her straight in the eyes. "You should know that I do not mean those words anymore. I have changed for the better now. Can you please find it in your heart to forgive me?"
The ghost crossed her arms and rolled her eyes.
"You're not sorry, and even if you were, a single apology is not going to fix this!" she fumed. "I can never forgive you for what you have done, unless… you somehow prove to me that you are 'changed for the better' as you claim."
"But he is sorry, he sincerely regrets the evil deeds that he has done," Vincent corrected.
"You need to stay away from him."
"No, he does not!" Asamad protested. "Vincent, do not listen to her." He then turned back to his wife. "Fine, I will prove to you that I am changing myself for the better, however, you will have to let me talk to you without wanting to fight in order for that to happen."
Ophelia looked away for a moment.
"I cannot let you do that," she told him.
"Why not!?" he asked, starting to get a little frustrated. "We need to figure out why you are here and how we can help you get to the afterlife. The only way to do that is if you seriously talk to me."
"The afterlife!?" she repeated. "I cannot go there!"
"That's because you're not ready for it yet, and neither am I. We both have things to do before we can cross over. However, we'll get there eventually, maybe not now, but someday."
She gently and deeply gazed into his eyes.
"Wait… you'll be going with me, right?"
He didn't know what to say after that. He wasn't sure if he could go to the afterlife at the same time as her since he was helping the gang capture the rest of the ghosts from the chest, and yet, he wasn't sure how she would react if he said no to her.
"Actually, he's-" Daphne began, but then stopped once she saw the look on Asamad's face warning her not to say anything about it.
"Hey, I don't know if you guys noticed this, but the portrait of Asamad over there is the only thing that isn't damaged here," Jayden told everyone, pointing to the portrait behind him.
"What?" everyone else asked in confusion.
They all looked up at the portrait, also realizing that there was no damage done to it.
"That's weird, why would Ophelia's portrait be damaged but not Asamad's?" Velma wondered.
"And there's two chairs in here as well," Daphne added, realizing who they belonged to.
"Did you do that?" Cheryl asked Ophelia.
"What? No!" she immediately denied. "I would never do that for him anymore. I hate him nowadays!"
"Keeping someone's portrait clean for centuries, and putting yours and their chairs next to each other doesn't really seem like hate to me," Shaggy said.
"Especially if that someone is your husband," Flim Flam agreed.
"Also, you just asked him if he was going to the afterlife with you, which is something you wouldn't do if you actually hated him," Vincent acknowledged, arching an eyebrow.
Ophelia looked around in embarrassment.
"Ugh, this is ridiculous!" she shouted. "Fine, I admit that I did do those things, but that means nothing. It's like I told you, I do not want to be around him and I certainly do not like him anymore."
"To be honest, it kind of does mean something," Cheryl disagreed.
"Even more after you just now admitted that you did do those things," Flim Flam pointed out.
"Just please tell me what you are trying to say!" the glowing ghost begged in frustration.
"What we're trying to say is… we think you might still have feelings for Asamad," Jayden confessed.
The room suddenly went completely silent for a moment and everyone stood still, until Daphne started to speak.
"So, is it true?"
Ophelia didn't respond, instead, she rolled her eyes once more and stormed out of the room, slamming the door shut.
"You know, she really needs to stop walking away from us," Flim Flam commented.
"Well, now we've got to search for her again," Velma said, heading for the door.
"Wait," Asamad began, stopping her temporarily. "Do all of you seriously think that she still has feelings for me?"
"Maybe, why?" Shaggy questioned.
"I don't know, I just don't believe that. In fact, I'm certain that she hates me. I mean, she said so herself."
The others looked at him with concern.
"Rhe doesn't hate rou," Scooby told him.
"Yeah, and I could tell by the way she looked at you when she asked if you were going to the afterlife with her," Jayden mentioned. "She wants to be with you."
"She probably just doesn't know how to tell you, and since she's so caught up on how the last fight between the both of you ended, she might've thought that yelling at you is the best way to deal with it," Cheryl guessed.
"Well, it's not. Listen, at this point, even though this hurts me more than you think, she can say that she hates me all she wants. I just want her to be at peace. Before tonight, I didn't even know that she was here, I thought that she already crossed over. But now, I'm going to have to prove to her that I am seeking redemption," Asamad replied.
"Rhow are rou going to do rhat? Rand what are rou going to say rif rhe asks rou rif rou're coming with rher to rhe afterlife with rher ragain?" Scooby wondered.
"I do not know," he admitted. "But I will think of something. As for the other thing, I don't know if I can go with her right now. Honestly, I wish I could, but I am not sure if it's the right choice."
Vincent looked up at him.
"I remember a few months ago, you told me that back when Nekara was after you, she gave you two choices. Her or your wife, and you chose your wife over her," he recalled.
"Yes, well, back then it was easier to choose. Right now, however, I don't know if I should choose to go with her, or to stay with the rest of you for a little while longer. I don't want to disappoint Ophelia if she really wants to be with me, but I also don't want to disappoint the rest of you."
"It would be okay if you chose to go with her. You should know that I want you to rest in peace as well."
"Vincent's right. I mean, she is your wife after all," Daphne commented.
Everyone else nodded in agreement, and Asamad smiled at them.
"I'll think about it," he told them.
They nodded again, and everyone headed out the door.
Notes: The mention of Nekara going after Asamad back when he was a warlock and making him choose between her and Ophelia is from my 3rd episode of my series titled "I Don't Want Your Love."
