"She'll choose me," Seth said.
"Not if she has good taste," Roman said.
"Taste means nothing. I know how to use my dick in ways you can never do," Seth said.

Lavender rolled her eyes. The two men were at it again. This had been standard her entire life.

"She's rolling her eyes at you," Roman said.
"Lavender eyes," Seth smirked at Lavender. "As beautiful as your name."

She was born with lavender colored eyes, and for some reason someone thought it was funny naming her Lavender because of those eyes. Her hair was long, wavy and silver, and always shining.

"Remind me again why I have to choose one of you," Lavender said.
"We've been over this many times. You know why," Seth said.
"Sweetheart, the entire world depends on you," Roman said. "Choose me and the world will get 100 good years. Choose Seth..."
"And the world will be wicked hot for 100 years," Seth said.
"The world will suffer for 100 years," Roman said.
"Same thing to me," Seth grinned.
"I hate this," Lavender sighed.

Lavender was created as some sort of hybrid between an angel and a devil. Her entire life she had lived with two men - one from each side. Angel Roman and devil Seth. They never left her alone. She had known her entire life that she had to choose one of them by the time she turned 30. A day that unfortunately wasn't too far away. She didn't have much time left, and she felt more clueless than ever.

"The 100 years thing doesn't make sense," Lavender said. "It's 2021. It should be a round number."
"Sometimes they choose before they turn 30 so they end the other reign before 100 years," Roman said.
"That's not fair to the other one," Lavender said. "Although I suppose spending 100 years with the same person gets boring fast."
"Technically we only spend 70 years together. Then a new one is born and we go there to live with her," Roman said.
"Sometimes they choose very young. Remember Alexa. She chose the day she turned 18 and legally could do so. She could not wait turning this world into chaos. We got the plague because of her. She was my favorite," Seth said.

Roman shook his head and sighed. There had been a lot of dark days since the beginning of humanity thanks to the women choosing Seth. He hated to admit that Seth had a way of talking them into choosing him most times. Seth had every word in his vocabulary and he was allowed to lie too, where Roman was more restricted.

"Why are we even discussing this? Our sweet Lavender is gonna pick me," Seth said.
"I can make you unhappy, Seth. I'll marry you and fuck Roman on the side," Lavender smirked.
"Lavender!" Roman gasped. "You know I don't like that word combined with my name."
"You wouldn't dare," Seth said.
"I don't see why not. It's right up your lane to not stay faithful. That's the evil thing to do," Lavender said.
"She's got you beat at your own game," Roman said.
"It doesn't matter in the long run as long as she chooses me," Seth said. "And she will."

Lavender rolled her eyes again. She never got a day in peace from these too. Only when she used the bathroom was she ever truly alone. They never allowed her to stop and really think about things.

"Whatever," Lavender shrugged. "I'm going to the library."
"Again?" Roman asked.
"You're spending way too much time there," Seth said.
"I like it there," Lavender said.

She walked out in the hall to put on her shoes. Roman and Seth looked at each other.

"We both know what exactly she likes there," Roman whispered.
"Don't remind me," Seth whispered back. "Once she chooses me, I'm gonna kill him first thing."

Lavender opened the front door. Roman and Seth ran up to her and walked on each side of her.

"You know, I am perfectly fine going to the library alone," Lavender said.
"You know the rules," Seth said.
"As long as you stay back and let me find my own books. I'm tired of the things you're recommending," Lavender looked at Seth. "And that means both of you. Roman's not the only one picking out shitty books, Seth. You do too."

Seth pressed his lips together in a thin line while Roman chuckled in response. Lavender was one they couldn't figure out. Most times they had a feeling who would be chosen but she was different. It was like she didn't want to choose. In the end she wouldn't be given a choice. Once she turned 30, her time was up. She had to choose.

They reached the library after having walked 20 minutes. Her smile grew as she stepped inside and looked over at the librarian Drew. Roman and Seth weren't blind. They could see Lavender was smitten with the Scottish man.

"Go find something to read," Lavender said.

Roman and Seth walked over to grab some books and sat down at a table. They watched as Lavender walked up to Drew. They kept their distance as always but they always had their eyes on her.

"Lavender," Drew smiled. "So good to see you again."
"Right back at you," Lavender smiled back. "Anything new and exciting going on around here?"
"We hired a new librarian. He's starting next week. He seems friendly enough. His name is Braun, and I'm sure you'll be as happy with him as you are with me," he said.
"I'd rather talk to you," she said.

He placed his arms on the counter and leaned closer. She was blushing. She wasn't sure if it had been the right thing to say that she'd rather talk to him. She meant it though. She always enjoyed talking to him.

"Can I take you out on a date?" He asked.
"You wanna go out with me?" She asked surprised.
"I've been wanting to ask you for a long time. I was trying to work up my nerves. I'm feeling kinda nervous right now," he said.
"I'd love to," she said. "When?"
"Tomorrow night?" He asked.
"I'm free tomorrow," she said.

He placed his phone on the counter and pushed it towards her.

"Put your number in my phone," he said.

She quickly put her number in and handed the phone back. He sent her a text right away. Her phone beeped in her back pocket.

"Now you have my number too," he said. "Text me your address so I can pick you up tomorrow night at 6."

She grinned at him and sent him a text with her address.

"I'll be ready," she said.
"I'm looking forward to it," he said.
