Chapter 2

The wind was getting worse, the branches blew hard against the mighty force. Guess I shouldn't fly in this. Red thought, looking out from the entrance. She couldn't keep her mind off of that white thing from yesterday evening. White monster, must've been what Suber had said. She had seen it on their way back. It seemed to follow her whenever she walked, reaching it's strange talons out towards her. And only her it seems. She had stopped once to just have a whizz when the thing started to get closer. She had to finish because it was almost impossible to stop once it went going but she did run towards her friends as fast as she could.

"Red, can you please move away from there?" She looked over to see her father standing there with his violet scales making a major contrast with the silk around them. She took a step back as he had said. "This wind could surely tear our wings off, you know? (Sighs) Anyways, your mother had collected some fruit for breakfast. Join us dear." She nodded her head, following him. Once seated on the ground they began to eat, Red wasn't focusing on the fruit that much, she just kept thinking about how bad the wind might get.

"So my dear kin, how did that trip with your friends go?" Red looked at her surprised as her mother said it.

"What! I wasn't-"

"Relax, everybody already knows what you three did. The LeafWings picked up what you were talking about."

"Oh… It was fine. Found a strange white smooth thing."

"Go on," her father said, a tinge of curiosity crossing his face.

"Inside it there was just a cave that was… I can't explain it but… It was extremely white, all smooth. The only thing the three of us saw were weird plants."

"Oh, what did it say to Suber?"

"It just said weird things that she couldn't understand. It spoke weirdly to her as if it was something else." Her parents continued eating their fruit. "Of course… I did something else. A strange figure-"

"Another BeetleWing?" Her mother asked.

"No, it stood on it's hindlegs."

"That's really weird!"

Red took another bite out of her fruit before speaking again. "And-"

"Dear finish your food please." She swallowed it before continuing.

"For some reason… I saw it out there when we were going home." That was when both of them just outright dropped what they were eating.

"Did you take anything that made you see this thing?" They went over to check her if she was sick at all.

"No… At least I'm sure I'm not."

"Well you are acting a bit out of character after you went to that place." Her dad said.

"Maybe it's because of the wind. It's been getting worse lately." Her mother suggested.

"Could be." That was when a banging of talons occurred. They turned to see the two LeafWings at the entrance, panic in their eyes.

"Come quickly! Somethings wrong with Pipevine!" Fig cried out, the family got up and followed the two.

"What's wrong with Pipevine!?" her dad asked.

"Don't know! The plants near to what's happening are crying out 'White danger'!" The white monster! They arrived as other BeetleWings started checking over the elderly dragon. She was spazzing all about, foam coming out of her mouth, eyes a red color. Then… He just stopped spazzing, he laid there motionless.

"We're too late!" Red said, running over to the dead BeetleWing. She started to check her for anything that might have caused it. Berries or something else. There was only a darkened spot on her orange scales, nothing else to suggest poisoning. "Mom, do you know what might have caused this?"

"No! It's nothing I've ever seen!"

"I'll bring her children and their families. Should let them know what happened to her." Rustling came from behind them, something was coming their way. Red turned to the direction of the sound, prepared with her flamesilk just in case.

"Suber do you know what it is?" Red took a step as everybody else did. Fear was building up inside of her, this monster had killed Pipevine. Though the look on Suber's face made the feeling even worse. Suber's eyes were wide and she was clearly afraid also.

"I'm not sure! The planets are saying black! I'm not even sure what that means!" Small vines rose out from the ground, anticipating something hideous.

"I wonder where-" A voice said, Suber's vines immediately flew towards it. After a few seconds the thing was being dragged out right into the open. What they saw was a black dragon with two wings like a LeafWing but was clearly the shape of a bat's wing. "Oww! That really hurts! Try being on the other side of this if you ever do that again!"

"Who are you!?" Suber demanded.

"Can you first untie me?" Suber sighed and the vines went away. The dragon immediately jumps up, stretching each limb.

"My name is Rhinoceros Beetle or Rhino for short."
