CHAPTER 2: MR. ENTERTAINMENT

Peppermint Patty, Marcie, and Claudia were hanging out at Sparkyville Park. Patty was sporting her new do that Frieda gave her. It was a sporty short hairstyle that gave her an athletic, yet, feminine look. Patty made sure to thank Frieda for the makeover. And Marcie was pleased that someone, ANYONE, could work a miracle on her bestie's hair.

As the girls continued to walk down a pathway, they heard some vaudeville-style singing. They wondered where it was coming from.

"D-Do you guys hear that?" asked Claudia.

"We do, Claud," said Patty. "It sounds like that old-timer music that my grandfather always played."

"It sounds like it's coming from the pavilion, sir," said Marcie. And the girls walked over to the pavilion and saw a man dressed in a striped suit with a flat hat and cane, crooning to a group a folks. The girls joined them and watched the performance. The gentleman was obviously older and looked like he was in his 70s or 80s. He wore a handlebar mustache and had a rich voice that shouldn't had been coming out of a body that old. The three friends enjoyed the performance.

After the man was done, Patty, Marcie, and Claudia decided to talk to him for a little bit.

"You sounded great, mister!" said Patty.

"Thank you, young missy!" said the singer.

"How long have you've been doing this?" asked Marcie.

"For many years, lass," said the man. "I used to sing with a group of guys. Many of them passed away, and some have retired. I still keep going and performing for the folks who still appreciate old-time vaudeville music."

"Well y-you have a great voice, sir," said Claudia.

"Thank you kindly, miss," said the man.

"What's your name, mister?" asked Marcie.

"The name's Mick. Mick Spectacular, at your service!"

"Well, Mick, we think you should perform for our school," said Patty. "We go to Sparkyville Middle School."

"Well I don't know," said Mick. "Very few seem to enjoy old vaudeville music these days. Folks tend to go towards the Top 40 rather than Hit Parade."

"Well our friends have quite the eclectic taste in music," Patty replied. "While they do like Top 40, as well, they also are not opposed to different types of music, either. You should meet our friend Schroeder. He's a huge Beethoven nut!"

"Wh-What do you s-say?' asked Claudia.

Mick thought for a moment. Then he said to the girls, "Sure! I can perform for your friends! But how do I set up something with the school?

"Leave that to us," said Patty. "We can talk to the principal. And I'm sure he'll have no problem with you doing vaudeville." And Mick left them his card. And the girls went to Joe's Café to tell the rest about Mick the vaudeville singer.
