Emily ran through the halls of the upstairs opening every door looking for JJ and to find out why she was screaming, Emily couldn't tell if it was a scream of pain or fear. When JJ wasn't in any of the rooms there was only one other place she could be- the attic.

Once again Emily raced up the stairs to the door to the attic throwing it open. JJ was huddled in a far corner eyes wide with fear, pushing herself further into the corner tears began running down her face hands coming up like she was l shielding herself from something.

Emily was frozen for a moment before rushing over to JJ dropping beside her- not daring to touch her.

"JJ- Jennifer, tell me what happened" Emily tried

"He was here, he was here" JJ said like a prayer

"Who JJ. Who was here?" Emily couldn't tell If someone was really in the house or if the trauma was doing something to make JJ think someone was there.

"Bro. Jesse!"

"JJ, I need you to take a deep breath, just one" the main priority was to stop JJ from passing out.

JJ followed the instructions attempting to take a deep breath, after a few tries she managed to get in one good breath. Emily instructed her to take a another- then another- then another- until her breathing was almost back to normal.

"Good job, are you okay if we talk about what just happened" Emily didn't want to make JJ uncomfortable and sometimes she needed a minute before she talked about things.

"I'm sorry- I don't know what happened, I'm okay, you can go back to dinner" JJ eyes had cleared and she stood up on shaking legs, "I would not like you to be in this room, I'm sorry I scared you" JJ vice changed to the one she used on annoying reporters.

Emily wasn't sure how to react to JJs sudden change in demeanor, there was clearly something JJ wasn't telling her, but getting through to JJ is one of the harder things Emily has had to do. She stood up but didn't say anything or even make a move to leave.

"I said I would not like you in this room so please leave, you have already been in her once- a invasion to my privacy so I would like to make it clear that from now on you are no longer aloud in this room. Now if you want to go downstairs, I will be right behind you after I finish what I was doing" JJ continued using her media liaison voice, though there was a hint of bitterness

Not bothering to argue with JJ Emily left the room only stopping to tell Ben everything was okay before she was back making dinner, luckily nothing burned. She thought back to what JJ had said, maybe looking through JJ house was an invasion of her privacy- but in the moment Emily barely had a second thought about it.

If JJ felt it was an invasion of her privacy, then Emily would apologize- it was easier then JJ holding it against her.

Well, hello there it's me the narrator, of course narrators don't normally jump in in the middle of stories, but I am making a small exception.

There is about to be a time jump- not a long one only a little over a week so that it is a Wednesday, I know when there's a time jump in stories I am sometimes confused because I missed the part that says something like "3 weeks later" so I figured I would draw attention to it so no one missed it.

It you still missed it- well I can't help you.

I shall now give you a brief description of what happened during this time jump.

Ben and JJ continued sharing a room each night

Ben stayed locked in his room most of the time, not saying much of anything to JJ or Emily

Emily thought it would be best to give JJ time before she talked about anything.

Now back to the story (After the time jump)

……………………….

As the days went by JJ wasn't sure what exactly to do, she was always at work or out doing something, she was never just home. JJ thought something as supposed to happen- some major turning point, but it had been over a week since she was back and she hadn't felt-well... much of anything.

Ben wasn't saying anything to her and she wanted nothing more then to reach out but didn't know how to make him trust her. JJ knew it would take a while 11 years of trauma doesn't go away in a week. The only sliver of hope was when she walked by his room and heard Lego being built, so at least he was doing something.

Emily hadn't made any move to have a conversation with JJ about what happened, there was some friendly chatting, and the occasional comment while watching something on the tv, but that was it.

Everyone fell into a routine around the house.

Ben would be up exactly at 5am everyday simply out of habit, JJ not far behind, so Emily started also getting up at 5. They would all eat breakfast- not necessarily together but always near each other. After breakfast Ben would head into his room and read- it was his favorite pass time, Emily would work at the dining room table- even though JJ wasn't working Emily was still assisting doing paperwork and input on cases, and JJ would go up into the attic.

Emily would check on Ben and JJ every hour or so to make sure they were okay- if JJ was in the attic Emily would still go in despite JJ not wanting her to, she needed to see J to know she was okay, JJ would never even acknowledge her. This was intentional on JJs part- she got mad and gripped her paintbrush a little hard every time Emily came in, she hoped if she didn't respond Emily would stop.

Ben of course wasn't just reading, he spent more time just staring at the wall book laying beside him, he didn't have anything to do normally his day would be scheduled from sunrise to sunset. He couldn't keep his routine which often caused immense amounts of stress leading to what he could only describe as a meltdown.

Around mid-morning JJ would come back downstairs and start on house chores. They would eat lunch and spend the afternoon doing whatever they wanted until JJ or Emily started dinner. After dinner JJ and Emily would normally watch a show or movie then everyone did their own nighttime routines and Ben and JJ would go to bed in the master.

Once JJ and Ben where asleep Emily would go into her room and update the team on anything that happened, and there was normally an hour-long call between her and Penelope.

They did that everyday for over a week but one day something was off. JJ had been snappy, not jumpy like she was scared, she just seemed mad- at everything, she was carful not scare Ben but that didn't stop her from just being angry.

When JJ slammed the same kitchen cabinet for the third time Emily couldn't just ignore it like she was planning.

"JJ are you okay, you s- "Emily was abruptly interrupted by another slamming of the cabinet and a shout of frustration out of JJ.

"I what Emily! I seem off? that's all I have been told ever since we took that stupid case, now Luke's dead I was kidnapped by the same people who tortured me throughout almost my whole childhood and now my support systems gone! I need Luke but you know what- I can't get him back and Emily I would do anything to get him back, Anything! But no, I'm stuck I this stupid world that's hell bent on making my life as difficult as possible I don't even think I want to be in a world without him, so yeah I seem off!"

JJ didn't think grabbed her keys and phone and walked straight out the front door and climbed into her car, she wasn't sure where she was going but she needed to get away even if it was just for a few minutes.

Emily made it to the door just as JJ was pulling out of the driveway, she knew JJ was grieving and anger was a part of that but it still hurt, she wanted to be JJs support system but it was clear that JJ needed Luke more then anything. JJ had lost Roslyn so young and now she had lost Luke, Emily didn't know how JJ was still standing.

The comment about not wanting to be in a world without Luke is what scared Emily the most. JJ meant what she said- but was she suicidal was the bigger question, after what happened in the shower Emily wasn't sure what to think, she that thrown all the razors in the house away including her own, but there were other sharp objects, and while JJ said she wouldn't do it again it was clearly an old habit Emily was sure would be easy to fall back into.

Remembering that Ben was upstairs Emily realized two things- one he was probably scared by the yelling, and two JJ was not fit to take care of him herself. Emily was torn between going to check on ben and calling JJ- she landed on checking on Ben.

Creeping up the stairs Emily made her way to bens room glad to find it was unlocked, she knocked lightly so she didn't startle him but when she got no response, she slowly opened the door.

Ben was sitting on his bed hands clamped over his ears, shaking but not crying. When he saw Emily, he looked panicked but didn't move.

Emily sat in one of the desk chairs, sitting near him might make him panic more. "Ben, can you hear me"

Ben nodded

"Okay good, I'm sorry about the yelling, we didn't mean to scare you. JJ was angry at me and yelled, she just went for a drive. Your safe no one is going to hurt you; JJ wasn't mad at you" Emily was sure JJ was mad at her but bending the truth a little seemed appropriate in the situation.

Ben moved down his hands shaking them out before rubbing the comforter back and forth. "I'm sorry, I'm okay, it just startled me. I'm fine"

Emily sighed- what was it with Jareau's and saying they are fine when they clearly aren't.

……………………….

JJ drove and drove until she found herself in less used park, nature was always her safe space. The sun was going down and it was getting colder by the minute but JJ didn't care, there was still some snow on the ground it had only stopped snowing 3 days ago but JJ could barely feel it was she sat on a bench staring up at the moon.

The moon was a special thing to JJ, she had told a few people on the team the moon story with Roslyn where they would always be looking at the same moon, but always left out the part where Luke was there too. Sometimes after bad cases Luke and JJ would call each other and both sit outside and look at the moon while talking, that's why JJ liked her house, it had an almost unobstructed view of the night sky.

It was the first clear night in a while and JJ just wanted to soak it in, but couldn't relax with so many things going through her brain. She didn't know why exactly she yelled at Emily like that, but her anger had been building up slowly and Emily asking her if she was okay just set her off.

While JJ felt bad the anger wasn't gone.
