Hello guys, welcome to chapter 12! I hope everyone is staying healthy with this virus going around. I know its been a minute since my last update, but I've been forcing myself to write. Anyway, this story is going to be getting more intense, and subsequently, there's going to be some gore and violence in this chapter - so be warned. You will also see Jian's back story in this chapter, so prepare for a long one. With the villains' identity finally being revealed and Tigress kidnapped by these wolves, who knows what's in store for our heroes. Jian always seems to be two steps ahead, but for how long? Stay tuned and find out! Also, I plan to add music to my story, much like a movie, there will be songs that will match the vibe of the scene. I will indicate the song with an A/N and you can look up the song and listen while you read that part. This chapter will be lengthy, but please bear with me.
Chapter 12: Tigress's Lost Day's part 2
Po's Continued Dreamscape
The Dragon Warrior and Soothsayer stood on top of the mountains in Tibet as a gentle breeze swirled around them, and brushed through their fur in a cooling manner.
"I'm ready." The Panda replied to which the Soothsayer smiled.
"Good." The old goat motioned with her cane to look down, and Po did so.
When the panda looked down, he beheld what appeared to be a young and fairly handsome Jian, in armor, amongst a group of imperial soldiers. Po was perplexed, but he kept watching to see how this would play out. The Imperial soldiers were making camp at the foot of the mountains in Tibet after days of fighting the savage Mongols with hardly any rest.
"Long ago, Jian used to be good and pure of heart - much like yourself, Dragon Warrior," Soothsayer stated with a gentle, steady voice, and Po smiled. "Jian was a military genius and he enlisted in the imperial army to fight these savages, and soon, he worked his way through the ranks to a lieutenant. He was well-respected by all of his comrades and led them to many victories in battle with his twin sabers, but one day, everything changed." the goat mentioned, pointing down the mountain as the scenery below began to morph into the next day.
Jian and the soldiers came out of their tents to hear the sounds of a distressed female screaming frantically. From a distance, Jian spotted what appeared to be a Mongolian soldier dragging a tied up victim through the dirt. She appeared to be a young snow leopard - a slave with many bruises and cuts along her body - her clothes were almost non-existent as they had been torn to shreds. The savage was dragging her roughly, beating her with an ironwood rod while she screamed in agony.
"This will teach you to not drop the sake again!" he roared, striking her paw hard, thus breaking a few bones in her already tender appendage.
She screamed in intense pain and wept, "I'm sorry it was an accident!" she said through her tears, but the cold-hearted savage wasn't buying it so he continued to beat her back.
The young Jian was mortified at the sight and his heart broke for her. Thinking quickly, before this brute of a leopard could harm her further, the imperial soldier drew his curved saber and leapt over the hill at an intense speed. He then bolted behind the assailant like a blur and with a quick swipe, severed his paw at the wrist with the rod still in his fist. The old leopard howled in agony as blood instantaneously shot out of his stump in thick, dark jets causing him to collapse to his knees while holding his arm.
"That's enough, brute." Jian said coldly with his saber still in hand.
The leopard, despite his intense pain and severe blood loss, growled, "Who do you think you are, chinaman - mind your own business!"
"I am lieutenant, Jian - 1st infantry commander of the imperial army, and I do not take kindly to others harming an innocent woman... Mongol." he stated gruffly with trances of venom in his tone.
The savage looked up at him still growling in pain, "I don't care who you are; this was the least I was going to-" the leopard started, but was cut off when Jian's saber slashed through his torso, sending him back, finishing the brute.
"Silence." he muttered before sheathing his saber and turning towards the frightened, female snow leopard.
The feline was huddled down by the rock hill shaking in pain and fear while holding her injured paw. Jian then swiftly removed his helmet and ran over to her - kneeling down to inspect the extent of her injuries.
"I am so sorry you were treated in this way - you did not deserve it, truly. Do you need help, miss?" he asked gently, suggesting to lift her up and she nodded, trying her best to smile through her excruciating pain to the kind soldier.
The imperial soldier smiled in return and gently scooped her up in his arms, careful not to cause her any further discomfort, despite her injuries. Jian then began to run back towards the camp and platoon of fellow soldiers with the feline resting in his protective arms.
"Help - I need a medic immediately!" He exclaimed loudly as he rushed into the camp causing his comrades to look towards him in shock at the snow leopard weeping in his arms.
"Lieutenant Jian, what happened!?" the platoons medic questioned, standing up from the log he was resting on.
"I rescued her from a mongol before she was beaten to death!" he explained angrily. "I think her paw is broken - can you help her?"
The doctor nodded and motioned for his comrade to follow him into a fairly large tent. Once inside, the lieutenant gently laid her down onto a cot so the medic could evaluate her injuries. The soldier gazed at the young, female snow leopard for some time before departing from the tent.
Meanwhile, the soothsayer looked back towards Po with a knowing expression, "This is what started it all for Jian - in this moment, his life would change forever with that girl."
"Wow, I never would have guessed..." Po exclaimed in awestruck of all that he had just witnessed. "It sucks what happened to the girl though." he slumped but the old goat tapped his shoulder with her cane.
"Don't worry - it gets better!" she smiled and motioned down once more as Po observed the scenery change.
Jian found himself drawn to the tent more and more as the days and weeks passed, constantly talking to her and inspecting the progress of her healing. This particular day, however, the warrior finally learned her name. It was Mei Ling and needless to say, the two struck a bond - rather quickly in fact. After a long day of heated combat, Jian looked forward to their rendevouz in the tent.
"Hey, Mei Ling um... I brought you some tea." the lieutenant said coyly opening the tent some.
"Come in, Jian!" she called out happily and the reptile nodded with a smile, entering the tent. "Oh, gods, thank you so much - you've been too good to me." the leopard smiled taking a drink of the tea.
"Anytime, I help when I can. So, how's the paw?" He inquired softly, inspecting her cast and sling.
"It's a lot better and so is my back." Mei Ling stated, shifting some on her cot and looking towards the soldier. "If you hadn't rescued me from slavery that day, I-" she began tearfully before Jian cut her off by placing his hand on hers.
"I know. But I couldn't let that happen - ever! Not to you." He stated firmly and the female snow leopard smiled, feeling the heat rush to her cheeks slightly at his concern for her.
"Can I get you anything else, Mei Ling?" the soldier inquired, gazing longingly into her sparkling blue eyes.
"Just some company." the leopard replied softly, swaying her tail gently, returning his gaze.
"Granted."
With that being said, the soldier removed his helmet, and most of his armor and sat down next to the female snow leopard on her cot - engaging in various conversations about what their lives were like before the war.
"Afterwards, the former slaves' injuries healed completely and the two quickly fell deeply in love with each other." The soothsayer continued. "Their love was intimate from the start, and for the first time, Jian found the one thing he cared about more than fighting itself." the goat revealed before tapping Po on the leg as he was deep in thought about a matter.
All the panda could think about was his friends, namely Tigress, who was no doubt in grave danger. The very thought of what she may be going through, twisted Po's stomach into knots. He snapped out of his state, however, and returned his attention to the soothsayer.
"Do not fret Dragon Warrior - you will rescue your friends in due time. Remember, you have inner peace." the female goat stated to which the large panda nodded as the scenery began to change once more.
The soothsayer then continued, "After months of hard fighting, the imperial army was able to push the Mongols back to their land and after doing so, Jian was promoted to a General before discharging from the army entirely with Mei Ling at his side. Soon after, the couple were engaged and living out their new life together while they counted the days until they were to be wed."
As Po looked down, he observed that they were no longer near the mountain top of Tibet, but a cliff near Nanjing, China. It was autumn and the air was crisp as the wind played with the golden leaves along the city streets and rooftops in a gentle manner. The panda noticed what appeared to be a celebration, and a platoon of soldiers surrounding a stage area. It was Jian's wedding, and the reptile stood in the center stage dressed in his army uniform while awaiting his soon-to-be wife, Mei Ling. Soon, they were officially married and later departed to their chambers in a quaint cottage just outside of the city.
Afterwards, in the new couples' candle-lit bedroom, the retired soldier sat on his bed waiting for his wife to change clothes. As she approached the bedroom door in her ornate night gown, Jian gazed upon the feline beauty in awe and admiration.
"You're so beautiful, my dear - how did I get so lucky?" he grinned while rising to his feet to meet her half-way.
The female snow leopard smiled as her cheeks turned a soft tint of red, "I dunno. I guess the universe has its way of working these things out." she replied, wrapping her arms around his mid section and planting a kiss to his forehead.
"Indeed it does." he laughed softly before leaning his head forward to kiss his wife but suddenly he stopped, hearing a loud crash in the kitchen.
"What was that noise?" he asked quietly, his trained senses telling him something was wrong.
"Let me check it out - it's probably nothing, dear." Mei Ling whispered quietly, turning from him and silently making her way towards the kitchen to inspect the disturbance in their home.
Without a second thought, Jian grabbed one of his twin sabers that hung above their bed, and silently followed after his wife. Upon entering the kitchen, the soldier noticed the front door was open and his wife was no where to be found. Concerned, Jian called out nervously.
"Mei Ling!? Where are y-" he yelled but was cut off by a piercing, blood-curdling scream.
Hearing this, the reptile ran outside, sword in hand, and what he saw, shattered his heart to pieces. In the moonlight, beneath a bare tree, lay his wife with a small dagger piercing her abdomen.
"Noooo! Mei Ling!" he exclaimed in tears, immediately running to her side to inspect her wound to try and save her.
The felines' night gown was soaked in crimson as she struggled to breathe while coughing up her own blood. Upon seeing her husband, she weakly took his hand in her own.
"Who did this to you, my love?" Jian inquired through the tears that were streaming down his cheeks. "It wasn't supposed to end like this!"
The snow leopard choked some while clinging onto his arm for life as more dark, thick blood began to gush through her clothes, "I-It's okay, Jian... I-I couldn't t-tell... he was t-too fast - ahh!" she exclaimed in agony. "H-he said something though..."
The soldier squeezed her paw knowing this was her final moments, "M-my master s-sends his regards."
"Mongols!" Jian snapped knowing what this was about. "Please... let me save you, my dear."
The weakened leopard shook her head, feeling her life force slip from her by the second, "I-It's too late, love. Thank y-you for making my life w-worth living. You... argh! were always m-my hero and greatest adventure..." she finished with a weak smile before falling into her eternal sleep.
"Mei Ling!? No! Wake up!" he screamed while holding her in his arms, shaking her lifeless corpse. "Come back to me - it wasn't supposed to end this way!" he sobbed painfully.
Suddenly, a twig snapped from behind him in the woods and Jian quickly silenced himself to listen. Knowing his wife's killer was not far behind him, he rose to his feet with his saber clutched tightly in his fist. The soldiers' military bearing instantly returned to him as he was ready for combat at a moments notice.
"Show yourself, coward! Let's do this right here and now!" he roared angrily into the woods.
"Are you sure about that?" an unfamiliar voice spoke up from behind the reptile in a sly manner. "You are in way over your head, fool."
"We'll see..." Jian muttered and swiftly turned, and swung his saber but the assassin evaded the blade like it was nothing.
Though he was shocked, the warrior continued swinging his blade at the black leopard but his efforts were futile. He then blocked the blade, disarming it entirely before countering with a strong right hook, knocking Jian to the ground.
"Damn, he's fast." he thought to himself before quickly jumping back to his feet.
The assassin, thinking quickly, drew a hidden dagger and thrust it towards the soldiers' abdomen, but he blocked it before swiping his razor sharp claws across the panther's face - cutting him deeply.
"Arrgh!" he exclaimed momentarily as blood began to drip from the fresh claw marks in his fur.
"You're going to die for what you did to her, you bastard." he growled coldly as he picked up his blade once more - rage filling his entire being with fierce intensity.
"Oh, really?"
Before Jian could even process his next move, the killer moved behind him at an abnormal, enhanced speed that was like a blur and swiftly kicked the soldier in the back, knocking him to the ground - thus taking all the air from his lungs. While the reptile was still gasping for breath, the assassin then picked him up by the throat and slammed him up against the very tree where Mei Ling's lifeless corpse still lay.
"Is this all you got?" the black leopard inquired as Jian struggled to breath. "Pathetic." he stated in a voice barely above a whisper, before slowly inserting one of his claws deep into Jian's abdomen, thus eliciting a pained growl from the soldier as crimson began to flow from the wound.
All hope was beginning to fade from Jian's mind by the second, and before he could react, the killer thrusts a concealed spike into his left eye. He roared in agony as blood leaked from his socket, wishing for nothing more than to join his deceased wife in the afterlife. The dark figure then released his grip, allowing him to fall to the ground in excruciating pain. Before he could take another swing at the assailant, he ran off at enhanced speeds, leaving Jian to his dead beloved.
"Nooooooo!" he roared, but it was too late - the killer was gone as quick as he arrived.
Jian then painfully removed the iron spike from his now blind eye, and turned to Mei Ling and began to sob as he picked her stiff body up to properly bury. He gently closed her eyelids as few of his tears dropped onto her once, lush white fur.
"I'm so sorry, my love - I tried! He was too fast, but..." he began, but his voice soon became angry. "I swear on your soul itself... I will avenge you. Whoever did this is going to suffer seven fold."
As Po was still trying to comprehend what he had just witnessed thus far, the elderly soothsayer spoke up, "As you can see, from that day on, a great darkness entered his heart. You must understand, dragon warrior, the opponent you face is far more sinister than any other you have fought in the past.
Dumbfounded, the panda managed to speak, "I don't understand - how can a good soldier turn evil so fast? I understand wanting justice for Mei Ling but that still doesn't explain his unnatural powers or the reason he wants the conquer China when he fought so hard to defend it!"
"There's more to the story, dragon warrior. Look again."
As he did so, the panda noticed the scenery had changed to a dark, bamboo forest and in the center, a stone hut sat surrounded by a circle of dead grass and plantation. The area surrounding the hut appeared lifeless, but the forest itself, very much alive. Perplexed, Po kept observing.
"After many months attempting to track down his wife's killer, Jian came up empty. So he sought out a witch, my mother to be exact, for a desperate solution to beat Mei Ling's killer."
"Your mother was a witch?"
"Yes. But she was very much a recluse and did not enjoy the random company. However, after hearing Jian's story, she decided to offer him her assistance, but it came at a steep price."
*With the witch and Jian*
"Now, general, you do realize hunting down your wife's killer will not make you feel any better right?" the witch inquired while stirring a stone bowl which contained a potion she was creating.
"I don't care!" he replied, with anguish and rage in his voice. "How can I stand idly by while my beloved's killer still lives!? We just started our new life together and this mercenary from Mongolia tracks us down and takes all of that away!" he exclaimed, nearly on the verge of tears.
The old goat-witch sighed and put down her mixer, " I understand how you feel, believe me. My kind has been hunted for centuries, yet, I gave up on violence a long time ago. But if you insist on my help, you must know... there is a high price. One you may not be able to pay or come back from."
"I swore over her dead body I would do anything. Please! Have you not wanted retribution for what was done to your kind all these years? Grant me get the retribution I need so that I can avenge Mei Ling's death and these Mongolian scum regret the day they crossed my path!" Jian roared fiercely and the witch nodded.
"Very well - you make a good point. If you think it's worth your soul, I can make you a potion, that when consumed, will grant you enhanced speed, reflexes, and peripheral senses - all will be heightened as well as your strength." she stated while mixing the final ingredients together in her bowl.
"Great. I'm ready to take it." Jian deadpanned.
"No, you're not." the witch replied. "Not yet at least. Here is where the price comes into play: in order for your body to withstand this kind of power, you must first master... dark chi." the old goat finished ominously.
"Dark chi?" the reptile questioned, having never heard of this before.
"Yes. It can only be achieved once you've hit your lowest point in life - when you truly know in your soul you have lost everything you love."
"I'd say I'm already there." Jian admitted. "What's next?"
"Now you sit and I will guide you through the process." the witch stated and he did so crossing his legs in the center of a pentagram that was carved into the floor.
"Now, close your eye." the witch joked lightly.
"Very funny." Jian scoffed before he closed his one eye and began to meditate.
"I thought it was." the witch cackled before her toned changed to a serious one. "Now, draw your attention on your center - where your chi is stored. Focus on what happened to Mei Ling - feel the pain of your loss..."
While Jian meditated, he began to see vivid flashbacks of the past few months - his utter failure to save the one he swore to protect, his shameful defeat at the hands of an unusual opponent, and the sleepless nights spent on trying to find the assassin. The soldiers' frustration, guilt, rage, and raw hatred all began to bubble up at once - mixing in with his chi, consequently, turning it from a soft yellow, to a pitch black. Meanwhile, as the elderly witch observed the reptile, she sensed a dark, unwholesome energy growing from where he sat in the pentagram. Furthermore, she could also tell the energy Jian's soul gave off earlier was beginning to dissipate.
"Wow, you've already done it" the goat spoke up, astounded. "You may open your eyes now."
As Jian did so, his eye appeared to be a dark, piercing red color that seemed to frighten even the witch herself. Fortunately, the elder managed to snap out of her state of fear and rise to her feet - picking up a small flower that was growing by her window.
"Let's test your abilities first." she stated, handing the plant to him.
After taking the flower, Jian placed his hand over it and began to concentrate his newfound understanding of this chi. In a few seconds, the flower began to wilt before drying out completely, thus draining all of the life that was once in the plant.
An uneasy, soulless smile came to Jian's face as realization struck him, "Positive chi gives life, but dark chi... takes it away." he stated in a new deep, demonic-like voice as he handed the witch the deceased flower.
"Correct. Now you understand - here." she said, handing him the potion in a vile. "You are ready but remember my warning."
"No going back now." he replied before drinking the contents of the vile in one shot.
At first, Jian felt nothing, but all of a sudden, the reptile sensed an intense rush of overwhelming power surge through his body. His hands began to shake at super speeds like a blur and consequently, small streaks of red and black lightning began to surround his body - dark chi flowing from his center. Jian roared in pain at first as the last remnants of his soul burnt away, but soon, it subsided completely - leaving both of his eyes black as coal. His new found powers seemed to restore the reptiles' vision, but the ex-soldier seemed to be in a state of possession as the swirl of dark lightning did not cease around Jian.
The witch was beyond frightened at this point and as much as she regretted doing this, she spoke up, "Jian! You must take control of this power or you will destroy yourself and my house!" she exclaimed as he kitchen was being torn apart by the gale force of sheer demonic power and speed.
"I-I'm trying! The one p-possessing me is not so easy to c-control aaaaaagh!" he roared deeply in a dark tone as the lightning began to crackle and zoom around him.
"Here. Repeat this incantation!" she said handing him an inscription.
Jian took it and quickly began to read, "Nunc accipere potestatem huius meae voluntatis atque propositi possidentium secundum spiritum."
Immediately after reading the Latin inscription, the whirlwind began to cease as Jian now had full control over his power. The reptiles' eyes, on the other hand, switched to a dark red as its resting state and the witch rose to her feet slowly.
"Great, now for a test - think fast!" the goat exclaimed, quickly throwing a hidden dagger towards Jian, to which he caught in the blink of an eye, inches from his face.
"Excellent. Now, what's next for you?"
"Now... I hunt." he said in a deep, demonic voice that gave the old witch an unsettling feeling.
Before the witch could respond, Jian closed the distance between them at super-sonic speeds, and snapped her neck to the side - killing the old goat, instantly. Po gasped seeing this unexpected twist, and a soulless, yet satisfied smile crept on the reptiles face as he picked up her black, hooded cloak that draped around her corpse.
"I'm sorry it came to this, but... no one else must possess this power. No one can stop me now." the demon said ominously as the lightning began to crackle around him.
In a flash, Jian ran off from the witches' house at intense speeds to begin his hunt for vengeance, killing anyone who got in his way. Meanwhile, Po was horrified but he was beginning to understand as the soothsayer spoke up once more.
"Now do you understand the threat you face, dragon warrior?" she inquired to which Po nodded silently. "From that day forward, after he killed my mother, it was like a demon possessed him - constantly driving this new kind of monster into an unquenchable blood-lust."
"I see it now. Show me more - I must learn how to stop him or all of my friends will be in serious trouble."
"Look again."
As the old goat was still speaking, the scenery changed once more to that of a rocky cliff side near the mountains of Tibet. Po then saw that the very leopard responsible for Mei Ling's death stood atop the rugged peak as if he was waiting for someone. Suddenly, a trail of red lightning appeared from nowhere and raced up the rocks to the top. Stopping suddenly, Jian clenched his fists before drawing his twin sabers from behind his back. (A/N Song: Planets - avenged sevenfold)
"Took you long enough, general. Tell me, did you really sell your soul to gain an edge on me?" the leopard inquired, noticing a dark vibe the once pure of heart reptile was giving off.
"I did what I had to. The ends more than justify the means." he growled back as his eyes changed to black, giving him a cold stare.
A twinge of fear began to creep upon the leopard seeing this. These other worldly powers alone made him a bit unhinged as it was. What exactly had the komodo dragon done to himself to reach this level of power? The leopard mused this thought to himself over and over but terror seemed to be his only thought.
"Now, wait a minute, general - let's talk about this! I was only following orders!" he began nervously.
Jian, on the other hand, didn't seem to pay attention and in a milisecond, closed the gap between them, thus driving both of his sabers into the leopards' abdomen. The feline cried out in agony as blood flowed from the wound but Jian only drove his blades deeper.
"I... don't care!" he whispered in a deep, demonic voice while glaring into his eyes. "You left her to die and her innocent blood cried out to be avenged from the ground! So let it be known - I am the new bringer of death!" as he finished, Jian ripped the sabers up and out from his torso, thus finishing the leopard and showering himself in dark, red blood.
Jian then proceeded to slice off some of the dead leopard's hide and fashion himself a cowl - similar to that of Hannibal's mask with slits around the muzzle and two holes for the eyes. Soon he finished the cowl, and then put it over his head like a hood, to hide his identity. Soon after putting the witches cloak back on, lightning began to crackle and zoom around him before Jian took off at intense speeds to an unknown location.
Po was speechless, but mostly horrified at what he had just witnessed - it was all starting to make sense now. The panda would be lying if he were to say he felt no fear about this level of evil. Breaking the silence, soothsayer then spoke up.
"After taking his revenge that day, Jian became a new kind of monster - an unstoppable demon with the face of death itself, one with an unquenchable blood lust that has no end. A few months after this however, Jian decided to become a mercenary, to satisfy the blood lust; he was recruited by Shen himself to lead the wolf army in the genocide of the pandas." the goat said solemnly and Po gasped.
"What!? I thought it was all wolf boss and the peacock." he stated in shock, not sure what to do with this new information.
"Not all of it. They lead their own factions, yes, but the one who tracked down your family and people was Jian himself."
"How could I have missed this?"
"It's not your fault - do not blame yourself, dragon warrior but use this insight to help you and your friends bring him down. The fate of China and the others rests in your hands."
"I understand. But I still don't know how to defeat him - I just know I have to protect my family." Po stated in a somber tone as the surroundings return to a dark void.
"You will find a way. Now, I can only keep you unconscious for so long - you've been out for just over a day. Now go! Your tiger friend is just a few miles north of you." the soothsayer stated as she was loosing her hold on him.
"Awesome. Thank you for this - I hope I can save her." Po whispered with a gloomy expression on his face.
"You will - don't doubt yourself. Now go - quickly!" Soothsayer stated placing her hand on the panda's forehead, thus snapping Po from his dreamscape.
End of dreamscape
The giant panda woke up with a jolt, remembering everything he dreamt, Po immediately proceeded to pack what little supplies he had left and make his way towards the location of his missing friend. It was nighttime, and the cool air was crisp and calm as it played with his fur while the panda walked down the path, following the footprints of the tigers' captors. As the moonlight seemed to light the trail, Po realized he had not eaten in over 24 hours, as evidenced by the growl in his stomach.
"C'mon. Just a little bit further!" the panda encouraged himself as he was a mile down the trail. "Do it for her - she wouldn't want you to give up."
As the panda made his way down the dirt path, he noticed that the trail appeared to go up a rocky mountain where he assumed the bandits had taken his injured companion. As Po was mentally bracing himself for the climb, he noticed a pale, blue and white feather on the ground. Upon inspecting it, Po realized it was his friend Cranes'! The giant panda, knowing he was close, then stuffed the feather into his pack and proceeded to climb the unforgiving terrain.
"Arghh! C'mon, it's just a few lousy rocks." Po grunted as he pulled himself up over a boulder, cutting his arms a little.
Slowly but surely, the giant panda made his way up the mountain with a few cuts and bruises but Po was determined. As he passed the halfway point, Po heard voices just over the top of the rugged cliff. The voices sounded familiar, and they seemed to be discussing what to do with their new prisoner. The pandas' ears twitched hearing this and he steadily climbed higher still with steadfast determination. As Po stopped to wipe the sweat from his face, he heard sharp grunting and blows landing on what he assumed was their prisoner. Anxiety began to creep up on the panda bear, but he fiercely climbed with all of his strength until a certain rock he had placed his paw on, moved a little.
