The sun was just beginning to set over the city of Augusta. The girl prowled the dark streets restlessly. She wanted to hunt. She would normally be hunting at this time…under the guise of patrolling, but it was hunting all the same. It didn't matter that she would normally be hunting demons or other bad things that went bump in the night. It didn't matter that bad guys weren't really what she wanted to hunt this time. It didn't matter that this time she had a hunger that no kind of food could quench.
It wasn't food she was hungry for. Not anymore. Not now that she'd made her decision. One she'd been wrestling with for the last couple days. Ever since she'd met HIM. He had swept into her life one night in the cemetery. Typical for a vampire to find her there. Or vice versa as the case often was. Though the location may have been typical, the vampire was not. He had introduced himself as Vlad Dracul. Dracula.
The one and only. The legend come to life. And he'd come to her. He'd chosen her. Offered to teach her things, show her things. An offer that she had not taken lightly. He'd given her a taste of the things she could learn, the things he knew. He had offered her immortality…and she had taken it.
It wasn't supposed to be that way. A Slayer was supposed to kill vampires, not BE one. But, that was before. That was before Kennedy had accepted Dracula's offer. It was an acceptance made on impulse, made when looking into his eyes and being unable to look away…
An acceptance that she didn't regret. For it had made her powerful. So much more powerful than she had been before. She was strong and swift. She was a new breed. Something that had never been seen before. The rules that applied to all vampires didn't seem to apply to her. She could go out in the sun for one thing. She preferred not to…but she could if she needed to. That was a biggie as it helped with her desire to continue her mortal life as long as she could. At least until she made the other big decision that she had to. Though she wanted to stay with Dracula, wanted him to teach her and guide her…he was allowing her a companion as well.
There were only two people in the world who she would even consider spending eternity with…and both were waiting back at her house for her. Neither knew what had happened yet as she had spent the last few nights learning of her new abilities, reveling in her newly enhanced senses…enjoying the nights. But, both would know soon enough, and then she'd have to decide.
He had said she could bring them both…put off deciding as long as she wanted. But, she couldn't do that. It was a decision that she had to make now. She needed to get it over with. And yet, she wasn't any closer to deciding now than she had been when he had first mentioned it.
Maybe the decision would be easier if she actually went home…went back to the two who were waiting for her. Maybe then she could get back to enjoying…life for lack of a better word. Having decided this was the best course of action, she spun on her heel and headed back to what had been home once and had become home again…for a while. To home and the choice...
