Previously on 'What if…' Ash walked across the campus to her next class following Tyson's directions.
Ash quickly sprinted across the campus to beat the bell for next period. After dropping Riley off to the Ward, Tyson had to give her directions despite the tour the boys had given her last night. She found the classroom just in time as the bell went and students were sitting down. Bear stood at the front of the room, a twinkle in his eye, a grin on his face, he wore a lab coat and goggles that made his eyes look two times bigger than what they actually were.
"Class we have a new student, Ashlyn James, she has transferred to Akarnae with the sudden realization that she has a gift," he said, the class gave Ash looks of curiosity and welcoming. "Ash, why don't you go sit at the back in the spare seat next to Landon and Miss Sparker?"
Ash looked around for class for the blonde curls and goofy grin. Spotting Landon almost immediately, Ash made her way to the back of the classroom, sitting next to her friend and a strawberry blonde girl with gold glasses.
"You look like you've had a good morning," Landon teased, sliding Ash her textbook and notepad, things scribbled all over it already. Ash looked down at her clothes and saw that they crust with dust, died sweat nestled on her arms and exposed skin on her legs.
"You could say that." Was all she replied, before Bear addressed the class.
"Alright, everybody, get goggles and a coat on and we will begin today's prac," he said. Everybody rushed to the far left of the room as a box of safety glasses and a coat rail of lab coats appeared out of nowhere. Ash tried her best not to look too surprised, though the whole new world was still dawning on her.
After rustling to get a coat and glasses, Ash was back at her table with Landon and the girl sitting next to her, the table had been cleared and different powers and liquids in beakers sat on the table.
"Now class, put the red and green powder together and pour the clear liquid into the mixture. After, pluck a strand of hair and dip it into the liquid." Bear instructed. The girl next to Ash mixed the powders and Ash poured the liquid, while Landon, bored wanting some fun, plucked a few hairs out of the two girls' heads. Before Ash could glare at him, Landon dropped the hairs into the mixture and Ash got the sudden urge to sneeze. It came around, but instead of air, glitter flew out of her nose. Multi coloured sparkling glitter. More flew into her face as Ash looked up to see Landon blowing his own glitter in her face.
"Gross, that came out of your nose!" she complained. Though it turned into laughter seeing the sight of her friend's hair. Landon's once blonde hair was now a rainbow explosion. Glitter dropped from his hair for he had his own laughter bubbling out of him.
"Your hair!" Ash teased, though looking around the room, everybody had their own combination of colours dyed into their hair, even Bear, whose hair was hot pink and neon green. His glasses dusted with glitter. Ash wondered what her own hair looked like, as if reading her thoughts, her experiment partner passed Ash a mirror, her hair was red with white spots through it. Ash looked into the mirror and could help but laugh, her hair was a ball of glitter, silver grey fading into an aqua. Ash thought she looked like some gangster granny.
"So what's it like being old?" Landon teased, the glint in his eyes brighter than ever.
"Quite nice, not a sore joint anywhere," Ash responded, her cheeks hurt from smiling.
The bell rang and the class was dismissed, everybody coming out of the classroom either laughing or grinning ear to ear. Ash was one of the last people to leave, Landon going ahead and getting a table at the food court for lunch, while she was going back to her dorm to have a shower and a quick change of clothes that weren't covered in dirt and glitter. She walked out of the door-
"Ashlyn!" Bear called from inside the classroom.
"Yeah?" she answered walking back in.
"We never quite discussed about you going home, and you really just got thrown into this world." her teacher said, looking sympathetically serious.
"Oh right." She hadn't thought about home at all since yesterday and it had dawned on Ash that her dad was still on Ear- Freya freaking out, that his daughter had suddenly disappeared.
"I personally can't get you back, but I can suggest that the library is a good place to start looking for answers," Bear said. A strange light radiated from his eyes, as if already knowing the answer.
"Ok, I'll check it out after classes today, how about that?" Ash said turning toward the door to walk out again.
"Ash and one more thing, the library has many levels and it is very easy to stumble on them."
