Hey everybody, it's been a while so I have made a couple more chapters and am just polishing them off before you all see them, just thought it would be fun to do a couple of first day moments that Ash had coming to Akarnae since the next chapter is a few months after settling in.
Happy reading and peace out :)
PE…
Ash stood in a field with fifteen other students including Landon and Ez. She stretched with the others while they waited for the next period to start, getting to know a couple of her classmates. From a distance she could see a man walking toward them. He was lanky, wearing a blue warm up suit, his blonde hair in a short ponytail. He had a metal rod in one hand and a pitchfork in the other.
"Oh shit," Landon complained. "It's a bad day."
'Bad day?' Ash repeated in her head. Looking around the class most would seem to agree, some even turned pale at the sight of this man walking toward them. Though when he got closer, she could see the look in his eyes, said: I'm crazy and whooping ass is a daily routine.
"Right," the man told them. "You're all on my time now and made me skip brunch, twenty laps to warm up, if I see slacking, you'll end up in the Ward!"
The rod in his hand crackled with electricity, as Ez grabbed Ash by the wrist pulling her along with the rest of the PE class.
"What's his problem," Ash asked, keeping a steady pace just short of the group.
"Finn is a nutcase at best, though he's very officiant with his promises to the Ward, so run like a fire breathing draekon is on your tail." Ez told her, running slightly faster to catch up with the group.
"What's a- AAHHG!"
The metal rod had connected to Ashlyn's lower back and gave her an unkindly amount of shock.
"Faster, faster! My deceased grandmother can run faster than that!" Finn shouted in her ear. He raised the pitchfork looking ready to impale her with it. No matter what a draekon was, Ash ran for her life depended on it. She made it to the front of the group and stayed there for every other time they were running that period, because it seemed that that was the lesson, that Finn's main goal was to see who was going to be the first electrical made human shish kebab. As Ash laid on the grass catching her breath the boys joined her with the same heavy breathing.
"If this is a bad day, what's a good one," she asked.
"One without a pitchfork," Landon wheezed. He sounded like there was no tomorrow. There probably wasn't since PE was again the next day.
"Noted."
"You should see him after the holidays thinking we've all become couch potatoes. Pitchfork, rod and a whip," Ez said.
"We'll have to ask Bear for a 'sick' day, your dad would do that right?"
"Never asked," he said, though by the tone of his voice he was taking it into consideration.
Gift development Professor Marmaduke
Ash sat at the desk next to Landon, when Professor Marmaduke came into the room. The stern look on her face as she looked across the silent classroom.
"Open your textbooks to page sixty-nine and read the first three paragraphs, thank you," she said, sitting down at her desk at the front of the room. Landon snickered as he opened his book leaving Ash confused. She began to read…
Having a gift means it has to be matured and properly used without overuse-
Somebody cleared their throat above her. She looked up to see Professor Marmaduke looking at her.
"Ashlyn, I presume?" she asked.
"Yes?" Ash answered
"Do you have a gift, Miss James?" the teacher asked.
"Bea- Mr Stirling said that I do, yet I am yet to find out what it is," Ashlyn responded.
"Interesting, well nevertheless, you still have two terms of work to catch up on, so see me after class and we will start with a weeklong program of work until you catch up to the rest of the class," Marmaduke said. Without another word she turned away and walked over to the raised hand in need of assistance.
"Well, you scored big time," Landon murmured next to him, a wicked grin on his face as he kept his head down on his page. Ash backhanded him across the back of his head, earning a laugh from all around the tables Ash and Landon.
"Now class-" the professor addressed at the front of the room. "-A sheet will be handed out to you. You will answer the questions provided, though for those who do not have a gift, the person next to you will be your example."
Ash looked over to Landon, who just wiggled his eyebrows.
"Stop it, now what are we going to do?" she asked.
"Well, we could start with this one," Landon said as a second identical teenager appeared, copying his every move.
"Or this one." Another appeared.
"Or what about this one, wow, that one is hard to resist." Another Landon appeared. In moments there were six Landon's all doing the same motion.
"You're going to have to go outside just to answer the questions because there are so many of you," Ash complained looking down at the questions looking at which one could answer her never ending surprise that Medora was bringing.
"Come on I know you love us," he- they- Landon and his many realistic copies said, wrapping Ash in a group hug.
"Yes, yet could you please wear deodorant- you do have that here, right?"
"Yeah, we have, wet dog, mildew or mouldy clothes back at the dorm, which one?" He asked, a gleam of mirth in the real Landon's eyes as his clones dissolved.
"None, how about trying Lavender, it could bring out nothing but clean air," Ash told him, answering some of the questions on the sheet of paper.
"Oh yeah, Ez and I have that bottle from your dorm, so-"
"Excuse me?" she asked looking up from her sheet. "What?"
The bell rang overhead, Landon and Ash quickly packed up their things with the rest of the class, Landon rushing out as fast as he could.
"I'll hand it back this afternoon, see you at lunch and save a table byee!" he said over his shoulder. Ash tried to run after yet-
"Miss James?" Professor Marmaduke called. "You have work to catch up on this week , that you must come and collect, I would also like to go through a couple of things with you as well."
'You win this time Bailey,' she thought as she walked to the front of the room to find what torture her teacher wished to put her through.
Medical Science...
Ash sat next to Ez as a woman entered the room.
"Now a Plorren will be placed onto your desk, you and the person next to you will extracted three quills from its back, while the other is on standby in case you are poisoned at any point in the extraction process," the teacher said handing out jars on each table, with gloves and a pair of tweezers. When she came around to Ash and placed the jar on the table, she spotted a name tag: Dr. Luranda. V.
Ash looked at the animal inside the jar, it was a mix between a rat and a hedgehog. It squirmed and looked like a rat with quills on its back as well as it was blue. She looked over to Ez who held up his hands in surrender.
"I'll be on standby, it's your turn this year."
Ash sighed, she put on the safety gloves and grabbed the tweezers. She slowly opened the jar and put her hand in the first two quills were easy to pluck, yet the third had grown difficult since the small creature was now aware of her presence.
"Stay still," she muttered, putting her hand back in the jar trying to pluck one last quill. The plorren move like lightning ending up jabbing Ask with two of it's quills into her forearm.
"Ay!" she cried, yet she suddenly felt dizzy and stubbled back into chair. "Why is the room spinning, Ez?"
A stinging sensation dug into the inside of her elbow. Slowly the room stopped spinning, Ez standing in front of her more than just a little concerned.
"You good?" he asked.
"Yeah, did not see that coming," she said, standing up again.
"Well, it's not don't yet, you have to extract one mare quill with all the properties still intact," Professor Luranda said, handing them another full syringe of clear liquid. "Back to work now."
Ash grabbed the tweezers off the ground looking back in the jar-
"Ez…" she trailed off, not too sure what to say.
"Shit!" he cursed under his breath, looking frantically around.
"Um… Professor, I think we're going to need more than one syringe of antidote," Ash addressed her teacher holding up her and Ezran's empty jar with a few blue quills on the bottom.
"Everybody stop what you are doing! We have a loose plorren somewhere. Put your lids on tight and grab safety gloves. Look anywhere small that one of these creatures could hide in, oh, Miss James and Mr Stirling," Luranda addressed. "Detention with me on your weekend, thank you."
Another day in combat (with a few obstacles youmightsay)
"So-" Ash said, figuring out what Tyson was trying to tell her. "-Twice a year, Karter makes us do a crazy obstacle course, one for our yearly test and one because he wants to see who can get through the longest- also because he enjoys seeing his students fail in such an awful way- is that what you're telling me?"
"Pretty much," he responded as the two walked over the hill to class.
"Shitastic not only am I his emotional support punching bag, but I'm also going to be (with the rest of you) his entertainment for the day," Ash complained as they entered the arena. Tyson just chuckled as they joined the rest of the class.
An obstacle course had indeed been set out for them. Swinging sandbags, balancing beams, mud covering the bottom as a landing pad if you fell off, all the things that would say, 'your death is imminent if you fall that is.'
Karter stood there, arms crossed over his chest, staring at each student with his own stink eye.
"Right!" he yelled walking up and down the line of students. "You each have five minutes to get through as much of the course as you can, when that time is up you will stand at the back of the line, at the end you will go and see Fletcher. Understood?"
Six heads nodded in agreement.
"Good, Harrison you first!"
Riley stepped up first, getting through the first two out of the eight they had to complete. He then got through the first before Karter called time.
"Caisy!" their teacher shouted for Kia to go next. He had little luck going slow, only getting the first two as well before his time was up.
"Jones!"
Nick went next just getting through to the third, which was sandbags, he had gotten through the first two fine yet when it came to the finally on, he went too late as it was coming back, smacking him right across the head. Everybody looked away as Nick fell into the mud, thankfully standing up and walking back over to the group swaying, spitting out a bunch of teeth.
"Great effort mate, Fletcher is bound to have some super glue for those teeth," Kia said, doing his best to keep his lunch down along with the others.
"You fink so?" Nick asked, his right side of his face started to swell, his front four teeth and a couple on the right side of his mouth had all fallen out, leaving his mouth a bloodied mess.
"We're all praying for it," Ash murmured, tearing her eyes away from the damage, feeling sick.
"OK, enough chit chat, Maine your next!" Karter shouted.
"Wish me luck," Tyson whispered to Ash.
"Way ahead of you," she whispered. He gave her a small smile and wink, before stepping on the starting platform. Karter blew the whistle again and the timer started. He had gotten through the through most of the obstacle course and was up to the fourth a moving plank with sandbags. He had gotten halfway before a sandbag hit him knocking him into the mud with little force. He looked to have a bruised shoulder nothing too bad as Nick. Karter called time and now it was Ashlyn's turn. She stepped up, her heart racing, she prayed for her teeth and other body parts to stay intact.
"You got this James!" One of the guys, most likely Tyson or Riley encouraged.
Karter blew the whistle, Ash flew through the first two, it came to the swinging sandbags. She took her time, wait for the high swing- step into the space in between. She was on the last on, Ash winged it and went through yet the bag came down quickly and clipped her on the shoulder. She her a pop as she fell into the mud, her shoulder screaming as she picked herself up off the ground. Ash started over again, her shoulder slowly making it difficult to keep going. She prayed for the sound of the whistle, yet she kept going, the encouragement from her classmates in a shallow spot in her mind.
Ash went slowly and carefully through the sandbags, now onto the balance beam and once again weighted bags of sand. Ash carefully stepped onto the moving beam, as it moved back toward her. Yet as it moved the opposite direction the jolting movement made a rippling effect of pain throughout Ashlyn's whole body. She started to lose her balance and was about to j-
An impacted went hard across the back of her head as one of the moving features once again his her. Ash went face first into the mud, she heard voices around her before she lost consciousness…
…
Ash started to stir. Her head ached just her blinking was enough to hurt her brain even more. Her left shoulder was a whole other sense of pain, raw and out of place. Ash tried to open her eyes, light flooding through the gaps, making her rethink.
"Hello?" She tried instead, her voice horse. She heard footsteps approaching her slowly coming to a stop, multiple of others quickly following.
"Ash?" a voice asked, quietly.
"Yeah," she replied.
"Fletch, she's awake," the person said, sounding a lot like Ez.
"Good, thank heavens, Ash how are you feeling?" Fletcher's voice could be heard getting close as did rushed forward.
"I don't know just sore and feel like I got hit with a table," she told the doctor, her eyes still closed. She could hear a small round of chuckles from somewhere not too far from her.
"Fletcher, how many people are here?" She asked.
"Well, your class is here and your two friends, is that a problem?" He asked.
"Not really," she said.
"Why don't you try to open your eyes and tell me what you remember," Fletcher said. Warm hands touched her arm and try help her sit up, yet Ashlyn's shoulder screamed in agony, making her muffle her own scream and curse.
"Shhhh! Fletcher, the shoulder hurts, please!" She protested as she pulled herself up into a sitting with her right up, slowly opening her eyes. Yet nauseousness and dizziness took over making her shut them.
"Nope, going to be sick if I do that, though remember… combat, Karter blowing a whistle, Nick losing half his face of teeth, hitting a sandbag and then mud…" she said. "If that makes sense."
"Yes, it makes sense to what happened last period, your shoulder is dislocated from hitting the sandbag and then another in the head giving you concussion," Fletcher told her. "Any questions?"
"Yeah, did something happen to Nick or did I just think I saw him with a handful of teeth?"
"Yes, that did happen, they have been put back in with little trouble," Fletcher told her, chuckle could be heard from behind him. "Now dink this it should help with the dizziness."
He placed a vial in Ashlyn's had, she drowned it in one go. It was a chocolate mint. She opened her eyes with ease, the smallest slopes of pain had subsided. Landon and Ez stood next to the entrance, waving to her with a sparkle of mirth in their eyes. Tyson, Riley and Kia were standing next another occupied bed, with Nick in it. His mouth swollen cotton buds sticking out the side of his mouth, drool still falling out of his mouth as he slept.
"So, what's the problem doc?" Ash asked.
"Well, you have had a mild concussion and will spend the night in the Ward until the fracture in your skull is healed up, your shoulder was dislocated so we had to put that back in place, other than any other symptoms would be classified as dirty," Fletcher said filling out something on his clipboard before he went over to check up on Nick. Ash looked down at her clothes, herself and the sheets were covered with mud.
"Whoops," was all she said. Most of the combat boys left only Tyson stuck around.
"So, by the fact that your still here you're the reason I'm here I presume?" Ash asked, seeing her friends' crazy looks and her classmates gave him a mocking salute as if it was his last.
"I am-"
"No, no, no, you're not getting off this easy my friend," Landon interrupted, almost having Finn's crazy look in his eyes. "Ashlyn, this guy, Tyson Maine, single handily carried you from the arena to the Ward into positions, both which Ez and I may have on camera- the pigletback and wedding hold…"
"And?" Ash asked.
"Just thought you should," he said with a smile and wink. Heat rose to her cheeks as she coughed into her good arm hiding her face.
"Just no relationship until-"
"Fletcher!" Ash called.
"Ok, ok, just saying!" Landon said, before Ez dragged back out the door. Ash and Tyson share a chuckle.
"I should go before Landon or Fletcher get any other ideas about us alone," Tyson said heading for the door.
"Makes sense- and Tyson?"
He looked back in question.
"Thanks for dragging me back here," she said, feeling heat going back up to her cheeks. Tyson just smiled a twinkle in his eyes.
"Any time Ash."
Also, a fun moment.
"So, what's happening this afternoon?" Ash asked as herself and Ez walked back to the dorms.
"Well, I've got to be at Equestrian skill in twenty minutes, Landon is- somewhere think he has a free period actually?" Ez answered. "What you what's happening?"
"I've got archery, I'll stop in at the arena on the way back probably and see Soraya, I got some left-over meat from lunch to give her, you want to meet at the rec room?"
"Sure, oh and could you swing past dad, he a book that you can read on Medora that's foreign to Freya," Ez told her as they made it to the dorm building.
"Ok," was all she said as they made it to her dorm first. They said a quick goodbye before Ash slipped into her dorm. The water was running, meaning Faia was back early from her hours in the library. Ash picked out an appropriate outfit for archery, she laid them out of her bed-
A harsh knock on the door came, she cautiously opened the door, Ez was standing there looking exhausted.
"Has last period already come and gone?" Ash asked taking in her friends wrecked state.
"If only, listen we have a problem," Ez said, taking her by the wrist dragging her out of her dorm and down the corridor. Ez came to a holt at his door, he touched the bio sensor, his dorm door to reveal the inside. It looked like a Percy Jackson fan came in after reading he lost his memories and was separated for Annabeth. Purple liquid all over the walls and stained the sheets. Paper shredded and thrown across the room. Sticky tape hanging off the ceiling, bits of paint ripped off.
"Do I even want to know what animal you keep in here?" Ash asked stepping into the room, a sweet smell like fruit in the air.
"Not an animal, a Landon," Ez told her, looking around the room in shock and disappointment.
"What do you mean, Landon wouldn't do something like this- did you do something-"
"No, what happens is some idiot gave Landon a sip of Dilly berry juice and he than gets addicted," Ez said, going to his side of the room pulling out a box under the bed. Inside was a syringe.
"It's that bad?" Ash asked a little frightened to find her friend.
"No, he's equivalent to a two year old, making it very hard to get him to the Ward- plus this isn't the first and not last so- yeah lets go find-"
A hand latched onto the back of Ashlyn's foot making her scream in fright. Laughter could be heard under the bed as a drunk looking Landon made his way from out of under the bed.
"I got you- you scream, very big and girly scream!" he said, dancing around Ash. The adrenaline pumped through every nerve in her body, if looks could kill Landon would not be standing on his feet. She put her foot out making Landon fall and land on his face.
"Hey! That's not fair, we're supposed to be friends!" he cried rolling onto his back. "We were going to get married."
"Well, I see no ring and think you as a brother, so no wedding for you and thankfully me," she said, doing her best not to smile.
"Oh, come on! Ezie will you-"
"Not in your wildest hopes and dream mate," Ez said, not at all wanting to play the game.
"But I decorated the room for the party," Landon complained gesturing to the room. His attitude was the same as a two year old doing a talent shown.
"Very nice now sit still so we can-"
"Not going to sit still!" He shouted in Ezran's face, getting up and ran around the room.
"You little-"
"SHhhhhhh, no swearing, especially to me I'm an angel," Landon said, falling onto the bed, handing his head off the bed.
"Well, if your such an angel then you will do exactly what do, ok?" Ash asked, taking the syringe off Ez.
Landon nodded his head swaying in all directions. "Anything for you wifey!"
"Cute, now stand against the wall-" Ash told him hiding the syringe in her back pocket. Landon did as he was told, with a sway and a mutter of words.
"Ok, now clasp your hands together like this and squeeze-" She her hands together, putting her fingers in the slots in between her fingers, making her hands one big fist. Landon quickly copied.
"Will there be a prize?" He asked.
"You bet there will be," Ash muttered. "Now pull your right fingers up and leave the others where they are."
Landon did so, Ash quickly clasped her hand in the opening, just lifting his hands above his head as she went on her tip toes.
"Hey huby," she said, whipping the syringe out of her pocket and put it right through his- back cheek….
Landon within moments fell to the ground asleep, snoring with an empty syringe sticking out of right butt cheek.
"I've got that on camera," Ez said from behind her, the smile clear in his voice.
"Well, while you post that wherever, I going to get something that doesn't look like we killed him," she said.
"Nah, just chuck a hoodie with the hood up and the others get a message," he said grabbing the first thing he saw in his wardrobe. "Though you got to teach me those moves- without a demonstration, bless the next guy who crosses your path."
"What can I say, love is dangerous game…"
Indeed, itis, anyway please do leave anything in a comment if there's a moment that you would like me to do or you know just what you think about it all.
See you in the next chapter…
