Comfortember Day Twenty-Five: Alt 3: Laughing

A jolt of anxiety surged through Tony's body as he saw Peter get blasted by some spell by the rogue wizard they were fighting. He went flying and landed on the roof of a skyscraper.

"Pe- Spidey!"

Tony wasted no time in shooting the wizard with two of his repulsors, making the wizard slam into a building and get embedded. Tony gave the wizard a few extra punches to make sure he wouldn't be getting up anytime soon. He didn't kill him but he probably wouldn't wake up for hours.

Tony then hurried up to the roof where Peter was laying on while simultaneously calling the authorities to take care of the wizard and take him in. Tony retracted his helmet and kneeled next to Peter, his heart hammering in his chest.

"Kid, you alright?" Tony placed a hand on Peter's shoulder and gave him a light shake.

Peter twitched and then his eyes snapped open. He sat up so abruptly that his head almost collided with Tony's. Then the kid started laughing. Laughing.

Tony frowned. "You think this is funny?"

"Wh-what? No!" Peter said in between his laughing.

"What are you laughing about then? None of this is a joke. I thought you were seriously injured and here you are laughing."

"I-I can't help it," Peter tried to stop laughing but evidently couldn't.

Tony sighed. He helped Peter stand and dusted him off. Maybe laughing was just Peter's new, weird way of coping with injuries. To give himself peace at mind, he had FRIDAY secretly scan Peter for any serious injuries. Peter was surprisingly A-OK despite the blast he was hit with.

"The wizard?" Peter asked, his laughter somewhat dying down.

"I took care of him and called the authorities. They're going to pick him up."

"That's great. Let's go home now?" Peter giggled.

"Yeah, let's get you home."

Peter kept giggling as he hopped on Tony's back. Tony shook his head and had his helmet form back on his face. He took off for the Tower.

Tony usually liked his kid's laughter. He did. It was a wonderful sound and it always made him smile. But now Peter wouldn't stop laughing. Ever since the attack it's been either a lot of loud laughs or quiet giggles. The whole time Peter said that it wasn't his fault and he wasn't trying to laugh.

It was getting to the point where Tony was genuinely concerned. He couldn't feed the kid because the moment he opened his mouth, he laughed and that would result in him choking his food back out. It was a miracle that he managed to drink water without getting it everywhere.

Peter seemed to be miserable about the situation too. He even had tears, real tears, in his eyes and all Tony could do was wrap him up in a hug. It seemed to somewhat calm him down. Peter still went out of his way to keep his mouth shut though. Tony didn't like a silent Peter, it just wasn't normal.

"I never thought I'd say this in a million years," Tony started, grimacing at his thought. Peter looked at him. "But maybe we should go to Strange. He might be able to fix this, because this is obviously because of the wizard and what he hit you with."

Peter shook his head and bit his lip. Tony sighed.

"We don't know if this spell is permanent or when it'll wear off if it isn't," Tony reasoned. "It'll be alright."

Peter clutched Tony's sleeve and shook his head again. Then he took the risk of speaking.

"I-I know ho-how much you two don't like each other." How Peter managed to sound desperate while laughing, Tony had no idea. He felt so bad for the poor thing.

"I'm willing to put up with him, kid. It might not take that long, it's not that big of a deal," Tony reassured, patting his shoulder. "Calm down and let's go. It'll be okay."

Peter pouted.

It didn't take them long to get to Strange's Hogwarts House, as Peter liked to call it when he couldn't recall the name of the actual building. Peter hopped off Tony's back and Tony exited his suit when they got inside.

"Strange," Tony called. "I have an emergency!"

There was a moment of silence. Peter paced back and forth with his arms crossed. Tony called out for Strange again and one of his magic circles came into view. The annoying man walked out. He looked as annoyed as Tony.

"What do you want, Stark?" Strange asked. "I'm busy. This better be important."

"Listen, Doc, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't," Tony said with a scowl. He took Peter and turned him towards Strange. "The kid got hit with some kind of spell and now...Well...Kid?"

Peter blushed profusely. "I-I c-can't s-stop laughing!"

Strange looked unimpressed looking back and forth between Tony and Peter. Tony practically glared daggers into Strange, a signal that if he didn't do something he'd find some way to make his life hell.

"Is this a joke," Strange had the gall to ask.

"N-no! I rea-really-" Peter's laughter got louder and faster. He wrapped his arms around his stomach. "A-and now, it- it's hard to bre-breathe!"

"Strange, fix this," Tony said, lowering his voice.

Strange sighed and waved the two of them forward. "Come along."

"Thank god," Tony mumbled.

Peter whimpered.

XXX

Peter passed out during whatever creepy magic voodoo shit Strange did to him. Apparently that was normal for reversing whatever the spell was. Something about catching up on all the lost oxygen and hunger and god knows what else. Strange wasn't exactly sharing.

Tony had Peter tucked in his bed while he made some dinner for the both of them, making sure to make an extra large portion of pasta for Peter. It was a lonely dinner, kind of one filled with worry because Tony didn't know what to do if this didn't work. If it didn't, Tony would go back to Strange and trick him into opening his fireworks circle and shove him in a different universe.

After dinner, Tony waited in the living room and watched Back to the Future. He didn't want to tinker in the lab until Peter was up and at 'em. He tried to put the worry in the back of his mind. He just didn't want to think of Peter being stuck with laughing for the rest of his life.

Back to the Future was over before he knew it and so Tony turned on Jurassic Park. Probably not the best thing to watch at 1:00AM but whatever. He probably wasn't going to fall asleep for another couple hours anyway.

The couch dipped next to him and he didn't have to turn to see who it was. Peter rested his head on Tony's shoulder. Tony wrapped an arm around his shoulder. Peter sighed.

"I never wanna laugh again," Peter whined.

Tony smiled. So Strange's voodoo shit actually worked. Thank god.

"At least no one is going to force you to," Tony replied. He gently pushed some curls out of Peter's eyes.

Peter mumbled and lay down on Tony's lap, snuggling up. Tony grabbed the blanket off the back of the couch and draped it over Peter's curled form. Peter sighed, content.

"Why Jurassic Park?" Peter asked, curiously.

"Couldn't find anything else to watch." Tony shrugged. "You probably shouldn't be watching this so late at night. We can watch something else."

"I can handle it, Mister Stark," Peter said.

"I dunno, kid. It's kinda-"

Peter pulled the blanket over his eyes when one of the more graphic scenes played out. Even Tony cringed. Yeah, this was not a good idea. Especially with Peter up with him.

"FRIDAY, please try to find another movie. Fast," Tony requested.

"Yes, Boss."

"Thank you."
