Sam laid Carly on the couch so she would be as comfortable as possible. He sat down in the chair beside her, placing his hand upon her cheek. Sam felt this guilt within him. Deep down he knew this wasn't his fault, but if Bobby was right, they fell right into Azazel's trap and made things so much worse.

Dean came to stand beside Sam, putting his hand on his shoulder. "Sam, this isn't your fault."

"I led him right to her…" Sam muttered.

"He was going to get to her eventually, whether we intervened or not. At least this way, she isn't alone. She has you," Dean reassured him.

"That's if she has powers." Sam said, glaring back at Dean. "She isn't damned until we have proof."

"We do have proof."

Sam and Dean glanced toward Bobby who was standing in the doorway. With a loud sigh, he made his way into the room to stand beside the boys. He looked down at the floor and said the thing they both feared he would.

"I just got off the phone with Ash." Bobby sighed, biting his lip. "Carly's mother died in a fire when she was six months old. Her father was able to get her out before the entire room was consumed with flames."

Sam turned his sight back to Carly but spoke to Bobby. "If she is a special child, how come we haven't noticed any signs of powers? As far as we've seen, she's completely normal."

"Maybe, she's a late bloomer and that's why Azazel possessed her. To jump-start her powers...like charging a dead battery," Dean suggested.

Suddenly, Carly sat up with a loud breath. She looked around bewildered as if she didn't recognize her surroundings. Yet, that vanished when she turned back around to see Bobby, Dean, and Sam. Her gaze met Sam's for a split second, a smile forming on her lips.
The two smiled at one another with their gazes lingering. That's when Bobby got straight to the point. The reunion was cute, but this was not the time as he had questions that needed to be answered.

"Carly, do you remember anything from when you were unconscious?" Bobby asked, taking a step forward. "Did Azazel say anything to you?"

"Bobby, give her a damn minute," Sam whined.

"Sam, we need to know. It could be important." Bobby insisted, meeting Carly's gaze. "Did he say anything to you?"

Carly sat there for a moment, trying to remember what had happened. It took her a minute and then it all came rushing back in. Azazel...the powers…the demon blood. Her hand rose to her lips and lingered there for a long moment.

She looked toward the others and muttered. "He said I had...demon blood coursing through my veins and that my powers were dormant. Azazel said he'd awaken them within me."
"Did he say anything else?" Bobby asked.

"He said...if he didn't awaken my powers I had no chance of beating the others. In the end, this was the best option," Carly muttered.

"Others? What others?" Dean asked.

"Was it the other special children? Did he say when and what kind of fight this would be?" Bobby asked with crossed arms.

"I don't know, okay?!" Carly snapped, gritting her teeth. "I don't know..."

Carly sighed heavily as she tried to keep calm. Sam squeezed her shoulder to try and give her comfort as she clenched her fists.

Bobby looked at her with a shaking head. "I think she's hiding something…"

"I'm not hiding anything, Bobby. I told you everything I know!" Carly yelled.

His eyes went wide. "How did you hear that?"

"You said it clear as day. What the hell are you talking about?" Carly asked.

"No, I didn't." Bobby said with a shaking head. "I never said that aloud. Carly, I think you just read my mind..."

Carly looked from Sam to Dean and back again, both of them just as surprised as Bobby was. She shook her head. "You're wrong...I just...I need some air."

Carly got up from the couch and ran out of the room. The three watched her run off as Dean and Bobby looked toward Sam. He met their gaze in return and ran after her. Sam found Carly sitting down against one of the cars, her head in her hands.

"She doesn't look okay…"

"I'm far from okay." she muttered, lifting her head to meet his gaze. The look on his face told her everything. "Damn it...I did it again."

Sam slid down against the car to sit beside her. "There's nothing wrong with being able to read minds."

"How is it not wrong? Everything I thought I knew has gone straight out the window. In the last week, I've lost everyone I care about to vampires, and to top it all off the demon from my nightmares awakens these "powers" within me that I didn't even know I had!" Carly ranted.

"You've had these powers since the night your mother died just as I have." Sam said with a shrug. "Yours just didn't come to the surface slowly as mine did. It's jarring, but I understand what it's like to feel like a freak...it's terrifying."

"You have premonitions, right?" Carly asked, Sam's eyes going wide as she continued. "Azazel mentioned them when he was in my head."

"Yeah, I have premonitions of tragedies. I see people's deaths before they actually happen. I fight to get to the victim, but sometimes I'm just not fast enough," Sam explained, a sad look in his eyes.

"That's awful…" Carly sighed.

Sam shrugged in response. "It's okay, but I want you to know you are not alone. There are others just like us, but many of them aren't...good."

"You mean evil? With how my life has gone so far I wouldn't be surprised. I've been told I'm evil my entire life," Carly muttered.

"What do you mean?" Sam asked.

Carly turned toward Sam and lowered the collar of her shirt. Just below her collarbone were a series of burns; some older than others. Then she lifted her sleeves to find cuts going up to her inner elbows. Sam took one of her arms in his hands and lightly slid his finger across the cuts.

Sam looked up from the wounds to her face. "Who did this to you?"

"My father." she admitted, pulling her arm from Sam's grasp. "He blamed me for my mother's death. He thought I was possessed by the devil himself and that I came to Earth to torment him. My father would burn me with cigarettes and cut me whenever I pissed him off, which was quite often. Just making too much noise putting the dishes away could trigger him."

"I'm so sorry," Sam apologized.

"My friends were my only escape and when they started dying, I realized I would be stuck with...him. That night when the vampire kidnapped me...he made me watch my father be killed and I...didn't stop him." Carly admitted, tears coming to her eyes. "I should've felt bad, but I just felt relief. Maybe, I am evil..."

Sam scooted closer to Carly, grabbing both her hands in his. She looked down at his hands then toward his face. There was understanding without judgment in those hazel eyes of his.

"Out of every special child I have met, including myself, you are the least evil of any of us. Your father tortured you your entire life, so being relieved is nothing to be ashamed of. I sometimes think I'm a monster because I was the reason my mother died, that I'm evil, but I was just a baby. I had no control over that situation and neither did you," Sam reassured her.

"Can I admit something to you?" Carly asked, their eyes locking on to one another. "You're the first person that I have ever admitted any of this to. My friends had an inkling, but they never saw my scars. I don't know why, but I trust you."

"I feel the same way about you. In the end, it may just be the demon blood coursing through our veins, but I feel connected to you. I think your gift is wonderful just like the rest of you. Well, as long as you don't go snooping around in my head that it is," Sam smiled.

"I can't really control it at the moment, but I will stand clear once I actually know what I'm doing. I'm like a baby trying to walk without someone to stand there and help them," She smiled in return.
"Look, I may not know exactly what you are going through, but I'm not going to abandon you." Sam admitted with honesty. "I will be here every step of the way."

"I'm not used to people caring," Carly muttered.

Sam let go of her hands and slid one of his up to her face. His hand rested on her cheek, moving a strand of hair behind her ear. "Well get used to it because I'm not going anywhere."

Their gaze lingered as Sam leaned forward. Carly's breath caught in her throat, her eyes closing in anticipation. His forehead came to rest upon hers with a spark shocking through both of them.

"I wonder if he talked to her. Ohhhh they're gonna kiss. Normally I'd be vomiting at the thought, but I totally ship it."

Carly sighed. "Dean's coming."

Sam moved back as the two watched Dean approach them. The two rose to their feet with crossed arms. Dean stopped before them with a suggestive smile.

"You don't have to stop on my account," Dean said.

"What do you want, Dean?" Sam asked with annoyance.

Dean's smile faded into a serious frown. "Bobby wants you two to come back in so we can discuss our next move."

Sam and Carly looked at one another before following Dean back into the house. The trio stepped into the living room to find Bobby just getting off the phone. The look on his face told them everything...something horrible had happened.

"Bobby, what's wrong?" Sam asked.

"I told Ash to stay on the lookout for anything related to the special children and he just got back to me. There have been killings in Nebraska over the last week that no one can explain," Bobby admitted, looking toward each of them.

"How are you sure it's a special child?" Carly asked.

"The newspaper describes the killings as psychic attacks. It could be a witch, but this doesn't seem like something they would do. It could be another special child and they are killing people," Bobby explained.

"So, another evil one…" Sam muttered, looking down at his feet.

Dean noticed this and snapped. "You're not going to turn evil Sam. I won't let you…"

"And neither will I," Carly agreed.

Sam looked toward both of them with a small smile, squeezing Carly's hand in the process. "What's the plan then?"

"You three go check it out and see what you can do. I'll stay here and check for anything else that may be related to them," Bobby suggested.

Bobby went into the other room as Dean went to pack the car. As they got busy, Sam sat Carly down on the couch. He was nervous and she noticed instantly.

"Sam…" she began.

"I think you should stay here," Sam admitted.

"Not gonna happen." Carly said, shaking her head.

"Carly, this is dangerous. You've never been on a hunt before and if this ends badly you could get hurt. Besides, you don't have control over your powers yet, and being around that many people may be difficult for you," Sam explained.

"I am willing to take the risk. I'm not some china doll on the brink of shattering, Sam. You said you would be here every step of the way and I am willing to do the same for you. Wherever you go...I go," Carly insisted.

"You barely know me," Sam retorted.

"Then while we're on the way we can learn more about one another. Now come on, we don't want to keep Dean waiting," Carly said, getting up from the couch and approaching the front of the house.

Sam smiled to himself before following after her. He knew deep down Azazel had led him to her as a trap, but he wasn't complaining. She was the first person to truly make him smile since...Jess died and he never wanted that to end.
