Carly opened her eyes to find herself tied to a furnace, which by now was old and rusted. She was in a small cement room, probably a basement, or some sort of storage room. Carly tried to untie herself, but it was too tight for her to even try.
The door to the small room opened to reveal Ava. She came into the room and pulled a wooden chair beside Carly, sitting on it backward. Ava leaned her arms against it and looked Carly up and down.
"Why are you doing this?! We're on the same side." Carly exclaimed.
"Oh darling, we most certainly aren't. I've changed in the months I've been here and learned a few new tricks along the way. Why do you think you can hear everyone else's thoughts but mine?" Ava questioned, leaning forward in her chair.
Carly realized she was right. She only heard utter silence coming from Ava. Due to everything else going on she hadn't even noticed and now that she had it was unsettling.
"How are you doing that?" Carly asked with confusion.
"A trade secret...but that's not important right now. What is important is what you thought about the blonde hanging from the windmill. She was like an ornament on a Christmas tree. If only I had lights to add to the decoration, but I didn't have time as I was ending her sorry existence," Ava's smile went sadistic.
Carly's stomach dropped to the floor when her gaze returned to Ava's. "Why did you kill her? What was the point of murdering her?!"
"Azazel asked me to eliminate the competition and so I did. When a demon gives you orders, you follow them." Ava pointed out.
"You work for Azazel?!" Carly yelled.
"Yes, and it's the greatest feeling to snuff out someone's light. To watch the life leave their eyes is priceless. It's like you're a god, you control if they live or if they die, it's exciting," Ava laughed aloud.
"If your plan is to eliminate the competition...why didn't you kill me?" Carly asked with a shaking head.
"Don't get me wrong, I wanted to. Sadly, Azazel needs you alive. He says you have use to him and I do as I'm told. So, instead of killing you...you can stay here and listen as I kill the others, including your precious Sam. Then when I am done with them, I'll take you to Azazel himself and we can see what he does with you then," Ava said, rising up from her chair.
"Why are you doing this?" Carly asked.
Ava got to the door and looked back at her. "Because Azazel gave me power. He allowed me to become a god on Earth and I don't want the others to get in the way of our plan. Get some rest...if you can."
Ava smiled at Carly one last time before she vanished through the doorway. Once she was out of sight, the door slammed shut and the room was plagued with darkness.
Later that night, Andy woke up and couldn't fall back to sleep. So, instead of staying in the safety of the building, he decided to go exploring. When he got to the little red schoolhouse, he went inside as he hadn't gotten to when he was there earlier in the day. The inside was one big room full of desks, chalkboards, and old books.
When he turned to the giant chalkboard on the front wall, the entire board had writing all over it. Over and over again it said I shall not kill, I shall not kill until the very last sentence where it said one word, Andy. When he turned to run, Ava was standing in the doorway.
"Oh my god, you scared me!" Andy said, putting a hand over his heart.
"You've seen nothing yet," Ava muttered with a snap of her fingers.
Just as the sound echoed throughout the room, a little girl appeared beside Ava. She looked maybe eight or nine and was wearing a white dress stained with dried blood. Yet, the scariest part were her eyes that glowed a dim red.
"What...how did that just happen?" Andy asked, backing up a bit.
"Kill him," Ava ordered as the little girl's face morphed into a beast. Her teeth sharpened, her mouth widened, and her nails turned into jagged claws.
Andy tried to run but the girl was faster and tackled him onto the ground. Andy pushed and pushed but her grip was too strong, he was stuck. That's when the searing hot pain hit him. He looked up to see the girl had started tearing his stomach to shreds.
Andy screamed as the pain got stronger and blood spewed out here and there. Ava watched in joy as the girl tore him to pieces. When the girl finally vanished, Andy was barely alive. His stomach was just a cavern of scratches, blood dripping from his mouth.
Meanwhile, Sam was having a nightmare. He was in the middle of town alone. He ran everywhere searching for anyone, anyone at all. He made it to the schoolhouse to find Azazel leaning against the siding.
"Hello Sam…" Azazel said tauntingly.
"What do you want, Azazel? Isn't bad enough that you kidnapped and then trapped all of us in this abandoned town? Are you here to torture me in my sleep as well?" Sam snapped with crossed arms.
Azazel smirked at Sam's bravery. "You really have come into yourself, haven't you? You used to be so afraid of me, but now you stand on your own two feet. You yell at me as if we are equals when we are far from it."
"That's because I realized how much of a monster you are." Sam said, leaning in close. "And how much I want to kill you."
"I'd like to see you try, Sammy. Truly I would, but I think you have more pressing issues than killing me," Azazel pointed out.
Sam raised a brow. "What could be more important than killing the demon that has destroyed my life?"
"What about saving Carly?" Azazel questioned, Sam stiffened at the words, which made Azazel smile.
"What did you do to Carly?" Sam asked, clenching his fists.
"Why do you care so much about her? She should've been a vampire's snack," Azazel mocked.
Sam moved forward and grabbed Azazel by the collar of his shirt. "Getting all her family and friends killed was a low blow even for you."
"Well, I knew you'd save her. The others were just collateral damage," Azazel smiled.
"They were not some toys you can just sacrifice. They were people!" Sam snapped.
Azazel leaned in close. "I'm not human, Sam. I don't care."
"What did you do to Carly?" Sam repeated, his gaze never leaving Azazel's.
"I didn't do anything. Well, not directly anyway. That was all on Ava," Azazel smirked.
Ava's name made Sam's posture stiffen. He shook his head in denial. Azazel had to be lying...he had to be.
Azazel noticed the gears turning within Sam's head and further explained. "When I took Ava, I didn't just let her wander. I gave her a choice, work for me and kill the competition or I kill her and everyone she loved, and she chose me."
"You're lying," Sam muttered.
"I have no reason to lie, Sammy. Ava killed the blonde and while you were asleep she kidnapped Carly and snapped that Ethan boy's neck. Oh, and then there's Andy. Ava is killing him at this very moment. Maybe, when she's done with him she'll go to finish the job with Carly..." Azazel egged with a wide smile.
"Shut up!" Sam screamed.
He tackled Azazel, but by the time they had gotten to the ground, Sam had woken up. Sam and Ethan's lifeless body were all that was left in the building with Ava, Jake, Carly, and Andy nowhere to be found. Sam rose to his feet as a blood-curdling scream rang through the air and he knew it could only be Andy.
Sam ran in the direction he thought the scream had come from. He just prayed Azazel was wrong. Yet, when he arrived, Ava was approaching Andy who was torn into bloody shreds.
"Why?" Andy whispered, choking on his own blood.
"Because I believe killing's fun, don't you...Sam?" Ava asked, peering back at him with a smile.
She rose to her feet as her hand shot out. With quick speed, she used telekinesis to throw Sam into the wall, leaving him stuck in place, just like Azazel had done back at Bobby's house. Ava was different...stronger...dangerous.
"Why are you doing this?" Sam asked, struggling against the wall.
Ava tilted her head and looked Sam up and down. "Why not? The others were weak, but you Sam, you could join me. Join me in the killing. Join in the beauty of death."
"I'm not a killer like you. I don't abandon my race for power," Sam spat with a look that could kill.
"Oh, you don't know what you're missing, Sam. Since I met Azazel I've learned a lot more tricks...like telekinesis." Ava said, throwing Sam into the opposite wall then back at the other wall.
"Stop," Sam yelled.
"I can put thoughts in your head, slap yourself," Ava ordered as Sam hit himself...hard.
"I said, stop!" Sam yelled again.
"My favorite of all is I can stop hearts. I literally can use the force but instead of choking you, I slowly crush your heart. It's the least messy of all my powers. Shall we test it out?" Ava said, putting her hand on Sam's chest and closing her eyes.
At first, it felt like a tickle, but then pain consumed Sam's body. Ava described it well as it felt like her hand was on his heart, squeezing it between her fingers. The breath caught in his throat as he tried to escape her hold, but he didn't have the strength to break free.
"You should've joined me, Sam," Ava said with a shaking head. "Now I have to kill you and I really didn't want to do this. I actually liked you, but you brought this upon yourself."
She pushed her hand harder against Sam's chest, the pain doubling in intensity. Sam screamed as someone else came into the room. Due to the situation, neither Sam nor Ava noticed the figure until his hands were around Ava's head, snapping her neck seconds later.
As she fell to the ground lifeless, Sam collapsed onto his knees gasping for air. He looked up at the figure who saved him to find Jake standing before him. He offered a hand to Sam who gladly took it. Jake pulled Sam to his feet as the two looked down at the scene before them.
"Thanks." Sam said, rubbing his chest. "If you hadn't gotten here when you did, I'd be dead."
"Well, I heard the commotion and had to put a stop to it. I knew something was off with her, but I never expected this," Jake muttered, looking down at Andy who looked more like a slab of meat then a human being.
Sam stepped over Ava and closed Andy's eyelids with his fingers. They weren't close, but that didn't mean Sam didn't feel the loss of losing Andy. Sam whispered an apology for not making it there sooner before rising back onto his feet and approaching Jake.
"What's our plan now?" Jake asked as the two exited the little red schoolhouse.
"We find Carly and head toward the middle of town. If my brother got our message, he should be here soon. We get to him and he'll have a way for us to get out," Sam explained.
"Alright, where's Carly?" Jake asked.
Sam looked around at the deserted town. "I have no idea."
