Carly had to listen as Ava took Ethan and Andy's lives from them. Ethan's were cut short before he could even open his eyes, but Andy's thoughts were full of fear...of pain...of agony. She tried to get herself free, but in the end, what could she really do? Carly was useless and it was dawning on her as she heard Andy's thoughts stop.

She just sat there, tears rolling down her face. Listening to the dying thoughts of another was the worst feeling, especially when you knew you couldn't save them. Carly felt around and found a sharp piece of metal on the pole her ropes were attached to. So, she began rubbing the rope against the shard to hopefully snap the ropes and free herself.

As she began weakening the ropes, Sam's thoughts rang loud in her head...they were screaming. Carly knew what that meant, so she worked at the ropes as fast as she could to fray them enough for her to break free. Just as she got close, Sam's thoughts stopped screaming. Carly's heart dropped in fear Ava had won, but then she heard them once again in a much calmer tone, relief spreading throughout Carly.

With that joy, she felt the rope loosen and after a few tugs, she was free. Carly rose to her feet and threw the ropes to the ground. Her wrists were red due to the bindings, but it was nothing that wouldn't heal in a few days.

She could tell by Sam and Jake's thoughts that they were looking for her, so she found her way out of the basement and onto the main road. Carly went in the direction she heard their thoughts in and smiled to herself. Everything would finally be over...she hoped.

Carly made it halfway across town when she stopped short. The smile on her face faded away as Jake's thoughts took a dark turn. Ones she didn't want to hear.

"Azazel said only one could get out, only one could win. I will not die for nothing. If I kill Sam, I can go after the mind reader next. I'm in the army and I have super strength. I could take him, but it needs to be at the right time..." Jake thought.

Carly's stomach fell to the ground beneath her. She couldn't let that happen. She couldn't save the others, but she would save Sam.

Bobby directed Dean toward the town as he drove through the night. Getting to the others and helping them escape was the topmost priority right now. He was not going to lose his brother. Dean lost his mother, his father, and so many others, Sam would not be added to that list.

Bobby stayed silent in the passenger seat aside from the occasional direction. As they drove, Bobby could see Dean white-knuckling the steering wheel. This was probably the most worried he had ever seen the boy.

They finally made it to the turn and Dean pulled into a dirt lot. The two got out of the car, the bell from Dean's vision only a few feet in front of them. They stood there for a moment as Bobby noticed Dean's clenched fists.

"We'll find them," Bobby reassured.

"I don't know, Bobby. I just have this bad feeling in the pit of my stomach," Dean muttered, keeping his eyes on the road. "I can't lose him. He's the only family I got left."

"I know and I understand your worry, but keep your hopes up. Don't let your mind wander to dark places. When we get there, we'll get Sam and Carly back," Bobby replied.

A loud crash sounded ahead of them. Dean and Bobby looked at one another and booked it down the street. Whatever that sound was it wasn't good and they couldn't take the chance of waiting. Dean and Bobby never stopped running, praying that they would make it in time.

Sam and Jake made their way onto the street. They had no idea where Carly could be so they decided to walk in one direction and hope they were right. The two searched through every building they came across, yelling Carly's name as they went. They had been at it for almost fifteen minutes with no luck. Sam prayed Azazel was right and that Carly was still alive. He knew in his heart she had to be...she just had to be.

As they searched, Jake began to lose pace with Sam. He slowed down to a mere crawl and Sam took notice. Sam stopped entirely and turned toward Jake with anger and confusion.

"Why are you slowing down? We'll find her any minute and then we can get out of here," Sam snapped.

"We're not all going to get out," Jake muttered.

"What the hell are you talking about?" Sam asked.

"Azazel told me only one could win and I'm going to be that winner," Jake said, his face going dark. "I will not die here as the others did. I'm going to take you out and then I'm going to go for Carly. It's nothing personal…it's the survival of the fittest."

Sam raised his hands into the air. "Jake, don't do something you'll regret. If we regroup, we can defeat Azazel together. We don't have to kill one another."

"I can't take the risk. I'm sorry," Jake admitted, running forward.

Jake pushed Sam into a nearby fence, breaking it. Jake then grabbed Sam by the collar and threw him farther into the field. When Jake was about to attack a third time, Sam got to his feet and punched Jake square in the nose. Jake backed up blocking the blood from flowing, but that didn't stall him long. While Sam was distracted, Jake grabbed Sam and threw him back onto the ground, hard.

"We can all get out of here!" Sam yelled, uppercutting Jake.

"No, we can't!" Jake yelled, punching Sam in the stomach.

"Azazel is a manipulator, and a demon, don't listen to him!" Sam yelled, throwing Jake onto the ground.

This battle went on for several minutes, Sam would hurt Jake then Jake would hurt Sam, and so on. After both were weak, Sam punched Jake hard enough for him to go unconscious. Then Sam got up and walked away with a dislocated arm, bruises, and a broken nose. As he made his way to the other side of town, Dean and Bobby appeared walking down the path.

Dean's eyes went wide when he saw Sam. "Are you alright?!"

"Just a little banged up, but that doesn't matter right now. We need to find Carly and get the hell out of here before Jake wakes up," Sam said, sighing in pain.

Carly ran as fast as she could toward their thoughts and sighed in relief when she heard Jake's go quiet. She saw three figures in the distance walking toward her as she picked up her pace. Sam and others saw her, smiling wide.

Sam ran forward just as she did, just like one of those movie moments. As they met, they hugged each other tight, Sam spinning her around in excitement. The two's gaze met as they kissed one another, so thankful both of them were okay. Tears fell from their eyes as they kissed one another, never wanting to let go again.

Their lips left the other's as their foreheads leaned upon one another. They were both out of breath as they felt the electricity go through their touch.

"You have no idea how worried I was about you," Sam muttered.

"I was so scared Ava would win and I'd lose you," Carly admitted with fear lacing her tone. "I don't want to lose you after I just found you."

"Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere,"

The two stood there for a moment resting their foreheads upon one another. Dean and Bobby watched on with slight smiles. Bobby nudged Dean as he remembered they were kinda on a time crunch.

"Guys, we should probably get going. I'd like to be gone before psycho wakes up," Dean announced, the two separating as they keep their hands locked.

Dean and Bobby lead the way as the four walked back to the car. It seemed like they had been rescued and everything would be fine, but then Carly heard Jake's thoughts start back up and they were coming toward them, fast. She stopped and turned around just as Jake appeared behind Sam.

"Look out!" Carly screamed.

Sam turned and dodged just in time so the knife in Jake's hand missed. He tried again as Sam caught both his hands midair. Jake pushed the knife toward Sam's chest as Sam pushed back. Dean intervened by hitting the back of Jake's knee, causing him to fall to the ground with the knife flying out of his hand.

The knife landed right beside Carly as she picked it up. Jake and Sam fought for several more moments before Jake got the upper hand and put Sam in a chokehold. Dean wanted to get him off, but if he or Bobby stepped forward, Jake would snap Sam's neck.

Carly was behind Jake, which meant if she acted quickly she could get close to him. So, as he was distracted with Bobby and Dean, Carly snuck up behind Jake and used all her strength to embed the blade in his shoulder. He screeched in pain as he dropped Sam and turned around to face Carly, pulling the blade from his back.

She took a step backward as his gaze met hers with murderous intent. He ran forward and shoved the blade into her stomach, pushing her backward into one of the buildings. He pushed the knife so far the hilt touched the material of her shirt. A hot pain spread through Carly's body and blood flowed down her stomach, dripping onto the ground.

"As you die, you can watch them join you," Jake said.

"They're stronger than you think," She gasped.

Dean tackled Jake out of the way as Sam got a full view of Carly and her injuries. He slid forward and caught her as she collapsed in his arms. He made sure to hold up her head in the process. Her weight against his broken arm was painful, but he didn't care.

Dean on the other hand struggled with Jake for several moments before Jake slipped out of his grasp. Jake then ran off across town. Bobby decided to let Dean stay with Sam and Carly as he followed after the bastard.

Sam pushed some hair from Carly's face as Dean crouched down beside the pair. Sam was in tears as Carly cried just as hard, blood staining the surface of her lips. Dean didn't cry as often as many thought, but the sight of this broke him.

"Why did you do that?" Sam asked as a tear fell from his eye.

"Be..cause you sav...ed my life, I was just re...turning the fav...or," Carly gasped.

"We're going to get you to a hospital, you're going to be just fine," Dean insisted with gritted teeth.

"You don't need to l...lie to meee, Dean," Carly gasped, coughing up blood.

"He's not lying, I won't let you die on me," Sam cried, wiping the blood from her face. "We're going to get you out of here...I promise."

Carly's hand rose to his face so he would meet her weak gaze. "It's okay...it's okay. I'm in...the arms...of my...f...first love. The first person I ever l….loved. I love you, S...Sam. I love you."

"I love you too,"

Sam placed his hand on hers and leaned down to kiss her. The spark went through their kiss as blood and tears mixed into the motion. His crying intensified when he felt her hand on his go limp. He pulled back to find her eyes closed, her head falling to the side in one slow motion.

"No, this can't be happening. I have to get her to a hospital, I have to get her help. I…" Sam stuttered, the tears staining his cheeks.

Dean leaned forward, placing a hand on Sam's shoulder. "She's gone, there's nothing we can do. I'm sorry."

Sam shook his head with gritted teeth. He got to his feet and picked Carly up bridal style. He tried his best not to scream at the pain in his arm, but the pain was the least of his concern. Once he got her lifeless body in a good position, he began walking into town.

Dean stayed in his spot on the ground for a few more moments before getting up and following after Sam. He could tell Sam was in pain emotionally and physically. Dean just wanted to help.

"Let me carry her, you look like you're in a lot of pain," Dean suggested, reaching his hands out.

"No, I need the pain," Sam muttered, still slowly moving toward town.

"Sam, where are you taking her?"
