Carly woke up once more, weaker than before. Her limbs felt like they were weighed down by cinder blocks, making the smallest of movements difficult. She found herself in what looked like a basement, shelves lined with dusty jars that hadn't been touched in god knows how long surrounded her.

Carly turned to notice that her hand had been bandaged while she was asleep, which meant some humanity was left inside of Sam, if only a little. Carly's ears perked up at the sound of muffled arguing from the other side of the door. She could tell it was Ruby and Sam, but pinpointing what they were saying was another story.

The bickering lasted for only a few more minutes before it went silent and the door to the basement opened, casting a pale light into the room. Footsteps could be heard clunking down the rotting wooden steps with Sam appearing at the bottom.

"Here to drain me dry?" Carly asked.

"No, I'm here to help you," Sam said.

Carly scoffed under her breath. "Help me? Helping me would be letting me go and ending this pursuit, but I think we both know that isn't going to happen."

"No it won't, but I plan to help you in another way."

"Yeah and how do you plan to do that?"

"Bring her in,"

Carly was confused by his comment, but followed Sam's gaze toward the stairs nonetheless. Footsteps could be heard as two figures appeared beside Sam. One being Ruby and the other, a girl no older than eighteen.

"Who the hell is this?" Carly asked.

Ruby decided to explain. "This is Marie. She fell in love with a demon who loved her back just the same. They loved each other so much that she let him possess her, so they could always be with one another. Isn't that right?"

She squeezed Marie's hand to the point of bones cracking. As the girl gasped, her eyes turned completely black before returning to their original hazel color. She was possessed, but it was obvious neither of them wanted to hurt anyone. They were scared and for once, Carly sympathized with a demon and the human it possessed.

"Why are they here?" Carly asked.

"Ruby thinks this is a bad idea, but I think having backup would allow us to win against Lilith," Sam explained.

Carly leaned forward, her eyes meeting Sam's. "I will never help you."

"You say that now, but soon you'll change your tune," Sam said.

"Oh, I highly doubt that. Now answer my question...why are they here?" Carly asked.

Sam and Ruby looked toward one another as Ruby did the honor of explaining. "You are going to drink their blood so you can unlock your abilities and help us defeat Lilith."

Carly's body went stiff at the thought. She was glad her abilities were gone and she never wanted them back, whether they were dormant or not. She didn't want to be a monster.

Her gaze went to Sam with pleading. "Please don't let this happen. Please."

"It's better this way, just you wait and see," he muttered.

"I won't hurt them," Carly refused.

"Oh dear, who said you had a choice?" Ruby said.

She looked toward Sam and nodded. The two approached, Sam coming up behind Carly to hold her arms at her sides while Ruby pushed the girl onto her knees. She unsheathed a dagger from her waistband and placed it against the demon's throat.

Sam's mouth appeared beside Carly's ear. "In the end you'll thank me."

"Go to hell," Carly muttered.

Sam sighed as he motioned to Ruby with his head. She nodded in return as she sliced into the flesh of Marie's throat. When the scent of blood hit the air, Sam tensed up, but Carly did not. She did not feel the urge as he did, but once she had a taste that could change.

Sam pushed Carly toward Marie's bleeding neck. She did her best to fight back, but she knew deep down she didn't have a chance. He forced her head into the crook of the girl's throat, Carly's lips opening due to the force of Sam's grip.

The blood went into her mouth, but she did not swallow. Carly knew giving in would give her power, but if she ended up like Sam, she didn't want that power. She didn't want to be like him.

So, she held the blood in her mouth as she felt Sam's grip loosen, thinking Carly had given in. When she knew his guard was down, Carly slammed her head backward, hitting Sam straight in the face. He fell onto his back as she faced Ruby and spit all the blood in her mouth into Ruby's face, painting her cheeks red.

Ruby threw the demon aside and grabbed Carly by the throat, lifting her into the air. Carly clutched at her hand as she noticed the demon met her gaze as she mouthed for her to run. Marie nodded with a thank you, disappearing from the room as Ruby squeezed Carly's throat even harder.

"You're such a fool!" Ruby spat.

"Am...I?" Carly gasped, clinging to Ruby's hand. "Or am I...just not like you?"

Sam wiped the blood from his nose that Carly had caused when she headbutted him. He noticed the scene before him and got to his feet, placing his hand on Ruby's.

"Put her down," Sam said.

"Why should I? She is useless to us. Killing her now would get rid of an obstacle later on."

"If she doesn't want to join us, we'll just make her watch our victory. Maybe then she'll change her mind," Sam said.

Ruby met Sam's gaze with a frustrated sigh, letting go of Carly's throat as she fell onto the floor with a thud. A rough cough racked Carly's body as she tried to regain regular breathing.

Dean's world spun as he and Castiel appeared in a room laced with gold. He did his best to catch his breath when he noticed a plate of hamburgers on the table beside him. His brow raised as he looked from the burgers over to Castiel.

"What's with the food?" Dean asked.

"It's a peace offering," Castiel said.

"Peace offering? Why would you need a peace offering?" Dean asked.

"Because we have things to discuss."

Dean's body tensed up as he turned around to come face to face with one of the angels he hated most. He crossed arms with a grimace on his lips.

"Zachariah, what a disappointing surprise," Dean muttered.

"Nice to see you too, Dean," Zachariah replied, ignoring Dean's disgust.

"So, it was a lie then?" Dean asked, glancing toward Castiel. "Bringing me here to chat was a lie?"

"We do need to chat, it just doesn't involve Castiel," Zachariah said, motioning for Castiel to leave.

Castiel took a step back hesitantly. His gaze met Dean's before he vanished from sight. As he disappeared, Dean turned his attention back to Zachariah.

"So what is it you want to discuss, Asshat?" Dean snapped.

"No, need for name calling. This is a civilised conversation I promise you."

Zachariah motioned for Dean to take a seat. With a disgruntled sigh, Dean did as he was asked. Zachariah smiled, taking a seat across from Dean and intertwining his fingers.

"I had Castiel bring you here to discuss Sam," Zachariah said.

"I know he's volatile, but we are handling it. He is detoxing the demon blood in his system as we speak," Dean said.

"Dean, we had scouts near Bobby's home as a precaution and I was notified that Sam is no longer in the home. Carly was with him and she was covered in blood," Zachariah said.

It felt as if the breath from Dean's lungs had been knocked from him in one quick motion. He didn't want to believe...Sam wouldn't do that...would he? Dean squeezed his eyes shut with a sigh.

"Let me out of here and I can talk to him. I can get him to stop," Dean insisted.

Zachariah laughed beneath his breath. "Oh, Dean...we don't want you to stop him."

"What?" Dean asked. "What are you talking about?"

"We never wanted to stop the apocalypse. In fact, we have been manipulating things from the beginning to allow Sam to gain the strength to break the seals," Zachariah said.

"You want the world to end? You're angels, why the hell would you want to bring Lucifer to Earth to destroy everything?!" Dean exclaimed.

"Because he will bring peace to this world. Those you do not survive will be allowed into Heaven to have eternal peace...the pain vanishing with their lives. We never wanted you to stop Sam from releasing Lucifer. We want you to defeat Lucifer once he has already done what needs to be done," Zachariah explained.

Dean leaned in close so their faces were mere inches apart. "I. Will. Never. Help. You."

"In the end, you'll have to Dean. Your brother is out there right now gaining strength to kill Lilith, dragging Carly down with him. He will break the seal and Lucifer will be released. If you don't defeat Lucifer, we will just find another. Simple as that," Zachariah said.

"I won't sit by and let my brother release the devil," Dean said.

"I know you won't, which is why I told Castiel to bring you here. The only way to get out of this room is if an angel decides to help you and let me tell you, none of them would ever defy orders. We will release you when the cage is open. Until then...enjoy the burgers," Zachariah said.

He rose from the table and vanished. Dean got to his feet and realized Zachariah wasn't lying. There were no windows or doors to this room, which meant unless he convinced an angel to help him, he was utterly screwed. The anger built up in Dean as he grabbed the tray of burgers and threw them at the wall as hard as he possibly could, screaming as he did.

Ruby went to get news on Lilith as Sam stayed with Carly. He tied her wrists behind her back, tight enough to make escape futile. He saw how red and raw Carly's throat looked, so he got her some water to help with the pain.

After helping her take a sip, Carly's voice returned in a gruff whisper. "It's not too late to stop this."

"I'm not going to stop now. I've come this close to defeating her and turning back now would be idiotic," Sam said, setting the water glass beside him.

"But killing her...will start the apocalypse…" Carly muttered.

Sam raised a brow. "What are you talking about?"

"That's the consequence of killing her, Sam. She's the last seal," Carly admitted.

"You're lying," Sam said, shaking his head.

"Why would I lie about the apocalypse?" Carly asked.

Sam went to deny it again when Ruby appeared in the room. When she did, he straightened up with a question. "What did you find out?"

"I found one of Lilith's right hand demons who loathes her just as much as we do. She told me Lilith is currently staying in an abandoned church on the outskirts of town," Ruby said.

"Then let's go," Sam said, rising to his feet.

"You'll need a lot more demon blood if you want to defeat her," Ruby explained.

"Then I guess we'll have to make a few stops on the way, but we are ending this. Tonight, Lilith dies..."

Sam smiled to himself before making his way upstairs. When he was out of sight, Ruby looked toward Carly. With a smirk, she crouched down in front of her. She grabbed a roll of tape from a table nearby, returning to Carly after tearing a piece off. Ruby placed the tape right across Carly's mouth.
