He looked Carly up and down, noticing the glint in her eye and line of her mouth. "Ask what is on your mind."
"Why do you want…me?" Carly asked, swallowing the spit in her throat. "Your demon lackey said there is evil within me and worse than any demon blood in my veins. What does that mean?"
"You're an important piece to a long foretold battle. You and Sam."
The mention of Sam's name made Carly nervous and angry. "What do we have to do with some battle?"
"In reality, there should only be one of you, but due to some cosmic mistake, you both would be fit for the role. Whichever decides to accept my offer that is," he said with a smile.
"What offer?" Carly asked.
"To be my vessel of course. You and Sam are meant to be my true vessels. I could possess either of you without worrying about destroying your mortal body."
Carly froze in place, her breath catching in her throat. She managed to turn her head to the side, squeezing her eyes shut. When she did, he grabbed her chin and gently turned her head back toward him as she opened her eyes to meet his.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
Carly mumbled under her breath. "You're lying..."
"Now, why would I lie to you?" Lucifer asked with a raised brow.
"You're literally the devil. It's in your nature to lie and deceive. You pretended to be my mother for God's sake," Carly retorted.
A look of anger appeared on Lucifer's face, which made any confidence Carly felt completely disappear. Yet, that look of anger vanished with a sigh.
"Do not mention his name," Lucifer said, a smile returning to his lips. "I had to pretend to be your mother to gain trust and learn how to approach you. I had no ill intent, well, other than getting your answer to my question."
"And that question is?" Carly asked.
"Will you let me possess you? Take control of your body so I can defeat my brother Michael?"
"If I do that, I'm helping the side of evil," Carly muttered.
"Why do you think I am evil?" Lucifer asked with a raised bow.
Carly avoided his gaze as she spoke. "Because you're Lucifer. You reside in hell to rule over demons who torture and kill. You may have been locked in a cage, but that doesn't mean you aren't evil."
"Do you know why God cast me down? Because I *loved* him. More than anything. And then God created...you," Lucifer said, maneuvering his head into Carly's view so she'd look at him.
When their gaze met, Lucifer continued. "He asked all of us to bow down before *you*. To love *you*, more than Him! And I said, Father, I can't. I said these human beings were flawed, murderous. And for that, God had Michael cast me into Hell! Now tell me, does the punishment fit the crime? Especially when I was right. Look what six billion of you have done to this thing. And how many of you blame me for it."
"You're wrong," Carly said.
"Wrong about what?" Lucifer asked.
"Humanity." Carly said. "Yeah, sure, we're weak and we cheat and steal and…destroy and disappoint. But we also give and create and we sing and dance and love. Nothing is perfect, not you or God himself."
Lucifer laughed beneath his breath. "You're an interesting human, I give you that. Not many have tried to stand against me, but I like it and I applaud your bravery. I will keep my offer on the table and await your answer."
"The answer is no," Carly insisted.
"If you don't give in, there is always Sam."
"He would never say yes to you."
"Are you sure about that? You saw what he did at that church. What makes you think he wouldn't say yes to me?" Lucifer asked.
"Because if he had, you wouldn't be here right now," Carly realized.
Lucifer and Carly's eyes met once more. He didn't have to say anything because she could see it clear as day. He had gotten into Sam's head first and he said no, so Lucifer came to Carly hoping she'd give in, but she fought just as hard, if not harder.
"You're a very smart girl, Carly. Yes, Sam has told me no, but I think in the end one of you will give in to my offer. I am a patient being, but the longer you make me wait, the worse things get for the innocent bystanders."
"Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see, won't we?" Carly said.
"This battle will happen, whether I possess Sam or yourself depends on who says yes to me first and consumes enough demon blood to have the strength to allow me entrance," Lucifer said.
Carly leaned forward. "I will never drink demon blood."
"Oh, I don't know about that. You may not have a choice in the end."
Dean's eyes fluttered open. He pulled himself up out of the bush as he heard a loud bang come from the motel room. He quickly ran back in to find the demon dead upon the floor and Carly across the room unconscious.
Carly was lying on her stomach with her cheek pressed against the wood tiling, blood seeping from the same wound as the night before. Dean ran to Carly's side and flipped her onto her back, moving her onto the bed. As he was looking her over, he heard loud pounding footsteps from outside the room. So, with his hand on the trigger, he spun around to face the door.
He clocked the gun as a figure appeared in the doorway. Dean didn't recognize the girl, but she looked no older than eighteen. Her curly blonde hair pulled into a messy ponytail and her blue eyes were filled with worry.
"Who the hell are you and what are you doing here?" Dean asked, his finger hovering over the trigger.
"I'm Marie and I'm possessed by my love Henry." Marie said, blinking to show her black eyes before they returned to normal. "He allows me to take control with him in the background, a voice of reason within my mind. He chose to leave the life of torment to spend it with me."
"Why are you here, Marie?" Dean asked.
"I met Carly when she was taken by your brother and his companion Ruby. They tried to make Carly drink my blood, but she refused and allowed me to escape. I then kept tabs on her whereabouts in case she were in trouble, to repay the debt I owe her."
"Well, you kind of missed the action. The trouble is already gone," Dean said.
Marie shook her head. "No, it is not. You may have taken out the demon, but there is still trouble within Carly."
"What do you mean?" Dean asked.
"Carly hit her head yesterday to knock her unconscious and tonight she was hit in the same exact spot on a sharp corner of a desk with great force. It may not show on the outside, but demons can sense when death is taking hold of someone and it's wrapping its tentacles around Carly as we speak," Marie explained.
Dean looked down at Carly and saw the blood seeping down from her forehead. Her breaths were coming out in jagged gasps and her skin was paler than Dean had ever seen it before. He knew the demon was right, he just didn't want to admit to himself.
"Is there any way to save her?" Dean asked.
"Yes, she'll have to drink some of my blood."
Dean met Marie's gaze with fury. "Oh, hell no. That is not an option."
"It is the only way to save her. The demon blood will add to her own and strengthen her body, healing all of her injuries in the process. I would not suggest such a thing if there were any other option."
"You're just trying to taint her, like Ruby did with Sam!" Dean exclaimed, pointing his gun at Marie's head.
Marie's hands rose into the air. "I promise you, I'm not. I would only give her enough to heal herself. It may give her the urge to consume more but it shouldn't undormatize her powers. As long as she doesn't give in to those urges, she won't turn out like Sam did, but we don't have much time. Do you want me to save her, Dean Winchester?"
Dean looked down at Carly in her weak state. He didn't want to see her possibly go dark, but he also did not want to watch her die. Dean had done that once before and he never wanted to experience something that horrid ever again. He knew she may get mad at him for this but he was willing to risk it.
"Yes...save her."
Dean lowered his gun as Marie nodded. She made her way across the room, stepping over Andrew's body sprawled across the floor. Marie sat down on the bed beside Carly, taking the silver dagger from the nightstand and slicing into the flesh of her palm.
Blood began pooling on the surface of her skin as she squeezed her hand into a tight fist. As she moved her hand above Carly's mouth, blood began to drip, landing on Carly's slightly open lips.
After only a few drops, Marie moved her hand back. The two watched as the color returned to Carly's skin and the wound upon her forehead stitched itself back up. Yet, Carly was still unconscious.
Dean took her hand in his and squeezed it in his own, tears coming to his eyes. "Please wake up. I need you to wake up. Show me those lovely green eyes."
He placed his fist that was grabbing hers against his forehead, closing his eyes with a sigh. Dean felt a tear roll down his cheek, landing on the bed's comforter beneath him. He was never someone who showed emotion, but right now he didn't care about pretending to be some macho man, even if Marie was watching.
As he held Carly's hand upon his forehead, he felt a twitch of her fingers within his. His gaze went from her hand to her face as her eyes opened. "You think my eyes are lovely?"
Dean laughed as another tear rolled down his cheek, Dean swiping it away quickly. "I was just saying that so you'd wake up."
"You're lying to cover your ass," Carly whispered.
"Maybe I am."
