Dean wanted to follow after her, but he heard movement from the other side of the room to find Sam and Castiel beginning to wake up. He swore under his breath before running to their side, offering a hand to each of them as they got to their feet.
Sam rubbed the back of his head, muttering under his breath. "So, Carly said yes?"
"Yea..." Dean said, looking back at the open window.
"As long as Michael doesn't get you to say yes there won't be a fight. That should give us enough time to get Lucifer out of Carly," Castiel suggested.
"I'm not so sure."
"What do you mean?" Castiel asked.
Dean squeezed his eyes shut before looking back at Sam and Castiel. "Before Carly left, I made the comment that I would never say yes to Michael. She looked me dead in the eye and said, "Who ever said he was going to possess you?""
"So, there must be another vessel for Michael," Castiel realized.
"If there's two vessels for Lucifer, it would only make sense there would be two for Michael. The real question is...who. What poor sap is going to fall for Michael's words and say yes?" Dean sighed.
"We just have to get to him first," Sam said.
Dean looked at Sam with hopelessness. "How do you expect to do that when we don't even know who it is?"
"We could summon Death and ask him?" Castiel suggested, the brothers looking at him with confusion as he explained further. "Death is bound to Lucifer by a leash. If we summon him, he will give us the information without much prodding. The sooner we stop him, the sooner Death is free."
"And how do you expect us to do that?" Dean asked.
"No need, I'm already here."
Dean, Sam, and Castiel turned to find Death leaning up against the wall beside them. His arms were crossed with a cane leaned against his legs. The three tried to look confident, but there was subtle fear among all of them.
"I thought you vanished when you gave Carly your ring?" Sam questioned.
Death nodded slowly. "I did, but being bound to Lucifer means I didn't go to the place my other horsemen are now. I am weaker without my ring, but I'm still breathing and bound to a child having a tantrum."
"Do you know other vessel for Michael?" Dean asked.
"Indeed I do and so did Carly, even before she said yes to Lucifer." Death said with a sigh. "I'm surprised she didn't tell you."
"Who...is it?" Dean asked, ignoring Death's slight taunt.
"His name is Adam Milligan and he's currently in Windom, Minnesota. Michael is most likely already aware of this and may already be at his location. After you killed Zachariah, Michael was looking for alternative options," Death explained.
"Then let's get going."
"Running into battle against an archangel unarmed is not a smart move, Dean Winchester. If Michael is there, you must be ready," Death said.
"Fine, we'll check the car and then we'll go," Dean groaned.
Dean and Castiel began for the door, Sam turning to follow when Death grabbed his hand. The others left as Sam's gaze met Death's. "What?"
"I know a way you can save Carly," Death muttered.
"Then why didn't you say that in the first place?" Sam asked.
"Because they wouldn't like the idea I have in mind."
"What is it?"
Death cleared his throat before explaining. "There is a spell I know of that may work in your favor. If you get to the battlefield and open his cage, Lucifer will do everything in his power to get out of Carly's body. When he becomes his gaseous form, you can use this spell to suck him into your body and trap him within your mind. Then you grab Michael and throw both of you into the cage, sealing it forever."
"But that means I'll be trapped in hell," Sam said.
"I may be able to get you out but even if I cannot, wouldn't you rather have yourself in hell then Carly?" Death asked.
Sam's silence spoke a thousand words. He didn't want to go to hell, I mean who would? Yet, if it saved Carly from that torment, he was willing to make that sacrifice; he'd do it in a heartbeat.
"What do I have to do?" Sam muttered.
"Cut your hand and say these words in Latin." Death said, handing Sam a small piece of paper. "Then you only have a few minutes before Lucifer tears his way out of your mind, taking control of you. You need to jump in before he has the chance or he'll have won. Are you prepared to do this?"
Sam looked at the piece of paper in Death's hand for a long moment before grabbing it in his own and shoving it into his pocket. "I'm willing to do anything to have this nightmare end."
"Then I'll be seeing you soon."
Sam blinked and Death was gone. With a sigh, he left the apartment and slowly made his way to the main floor. Each step felt as if it took all his strength to muster. He knew hiding this spell from Dean would hurt him in the end, but if they didn't get to Adam in time, it may be the only option they had.
Sam found Castiel and Dean at the Impala, grabbing the biggest weaponry they could find, including the angel and demon blades. They had no idea if it would do anything to an archangel but they had to try.
Dean wanted to take the Impala, but they needed to be fast so flight it was. They held their weapons tight in their hands as Castiel grabbed their arms. Then with a nod the three were gone.
Lucifer made his way through a graveyard. He moved through the graves with grace, almost floating among them. He made his way to a broken down crypt, pulling open the creaky door. He stepped inside as five others stood against the walls with blank looks upon their faces.
He walked through them as he approached a cracked full-body mirror leaned up against the far wall. An annoyed glare appeared on Carly's face as he turned Carly's head to the side, cracking her bones. He did the same with her back and arms.
"Carly, come on. I can feel you...scratching away in there." Lucifer sighed, gazing toward the mirror. "Look...I'll take the gag off, okay?"
Lucifer looked into the mirror through Carly's eyes as the reflection changed to reflect Carly herself. "You said you wouldn't hurt them."
"And I did as you asked. I am not the bad guy," Lucifer said.
"What about that demon you drained dry on the way here?" Carly asked, anger lacing her tone.
"You may be my true vessel, but consuming demon blood keeps us strong. Besides, this is not the first demon you have fed upon. Who are you really angry with? Me? Or that face in the mirror?" Lucifer pointed out.
"I'm sure this is all a big joke to you, huh?" Carly questioned.
Lucifer shook Carly's head. "Not at all. I've been waiting for you...for a long, long time. Come on, Carly. You have to admit – you can feel it, right?"
"Feel what?" Carly asked.
"The exhilaration. And you know why that is? Because we're two halves made whole. M.F.E.O. Literally," Lucifer said.
"This feels pretty damn far from good."
"I'm inside your mind, Carly. You can't lie to me. I see it all – how odd you always felt, how...out of place in that...family of yours," Lucifer said.
"No, that's not true," Carly denied.
Lucifer moved Carly's mouth into a knowing smile. "It is. And I know you know it. All those times you ran away, you weren't running from them. You were running towards me. This doesn't have to be a bad thing, you know. I let Dean live, didn't I? I want him to live. I'll bring your mother back, too. I want you to be happy, Carly."
"I don't want anything from you," Carly muttered.
"Really? Not even a little payback?" Lucifer asked with a raised brow.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Carly asked.
"Look closely. None of these little devils look familiar to you?"
Carly's reflection looked at the people standing near the edges of the inside of the mausoleum. At first she was confused and then realization began to hit as she recognized them; all of them.
"That's Mr. Bensman…one of my grade-school teachers…" Carly muttered.
Lucifer nodded, motioning around at the others. "And that's your friend Rachel from that time in St. Paul. And Matthew...your prom date. Carly, this is your life. Azazel's gang – watching you since you were a rugrat, jerking you around like a dog on a leash. He did the same with all his children, including Sam. I know how you feel about them. Me too. So, what do you say you and I blow off a little steam?"
Sam, Dean, and Castiel found themselves in front of a quaint little house at the end of a cul de sac. The house was completely dark, aside from a bright blinding light coming from the second floor. The three looked at one another before booking it toward the house.
They found the front door locked, so Dean stepped back and slammed his foot into the wood, breaking it off the hinges. As the door landed on the floor, the three stepped inside and made their way upstairs. The light was coming from the last room at the end of a short hallway.
The three slowly made their way to the glowing door as Dean wrapped his hand around the door knob. This door was luckily unlocked. He twisted and pushed the door open to find a glowing mist going down a boy's throat.
He had blond hair, pale skin, and he looked no older than 25. His eyes were glowing an almost white shade of blue. Sam tried to approach but Castiel placed his hand on Sam's chest, shaking his head.
Sam stepped back as the rest of the mist went into Adam's mouth, the room going dark once again. Adam had his back to the three but they knew what must've happened. They raised their weapons as he turned around, gazing at each of them.
The power that radiated off the kid spoke volumes as to what had happened. Dean gritted his teeth as he tried to act confident. "You must be Michael."
"It's nice to finally meet you, Dean Winchester."
