Lucifer turned Carly's head to face Dean with a grimace. "Dean. Even for you, this is a whole new mountain of stupid."

"I'm not talking to you. I'm talking to Carly," Dean said.

"You're no longer the vessel, Dean. You have no right to be here," Michael insisted with a glare.

"Adam, if you're in there somewhere, I'm so sorry," Sam muttered.

Michael shook his head. "Adam isn't home right now."

"Well, then you're next on my list, buttercup." Dean said, turning from Michael back to Lucifer. "But right now, I need five minutes with her."

"You little maggot. You are no longer a part of this story!" Michael snapped.

"Hey, ass-butt!"

Everyone turned to find Castiel holding to be what looked like a Moltav cocktail with the cloth already aflame. Without hesitation, he threw the bottle at the feet of Michael, the grass igniting around him. Adam went up in flames as Michael screamed, disappearing in a puff of smoke.

Dean looked at Castiel with a raised brow. "Ass-butt?"

"He'll be back – and upset – but you got your five minutes," Castiel said, ignoring Dean's remark.

Before Castiel could say more, Lucifer snapped his fingers and Castiel was gone. Dean's heart sank because he didn't know if Castiel had just died or if Lucifer just got him out of the way. Dean pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind, turning his attention back to the task at hand. This snap left Lucifer with Sam, Dean, and a piece of scorched earth. Carly looked toward the brothers with fire in her eyes, Lucifer making her smile a sadistic one.

"You know...I tried to be nice...for Carly's sake. But you...both...are such pains...in my ass," Lucifer said through gritted teeth.

Lucifer raised Carly's hands into the air and threw them toward Sam and Dean, throwing the brothers backward into the impala's windshield, shattering it. Dean laid upon the hood as Sam fell to the ground. Carly approached, cracking her knuckles as she went.

With one hand, Carly threw Sam into a grave, sticking him to it like a fly trap. Then Carly walked up to Dean, grabbing his legs and pulling him off the hood of the impala. One hand grabbed the front of Dean's shirt and the other punched him straight in the nose. Dean fell back against the impala, spitting up blood.

"Carly? Are you in there?" Dean asked.

"Oh, she's in here, all right. She's gonna feel the snap of your bones." Lucifer said as Carly punched Dean once more before leaning in close. "And we're gonna take our time."

Carly punched him again before he collapsed onto the dirt. Carly grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled back to his feet. Sam screamed for Lucifer to stop as he struggled against the grave he was stuck to, but Lucifer wasn't listening.

Lucifer punched Dean another ten times, leaving his face broken and bleeding. Carly's hand pulled back to punch again when Dean grabbed the front of her jacket. Carly looked down at his hand before meeting his gaze. She looked murderous but her eyes were filled with sorrow, a tear rolling down her cheek.

"Carly, it's okay. It's okay. I'm here. I'm here. I'm not gonna leave you." Dean gasped, Lucifer punching him twice more. "I'm not gonna leave you."

Carly screeched, dropping Dean into the dirt. She turned around to show a blade in her shoulder and Marie standing behind her. This distraction made Lucifer lose his grip on Sam who then ran to Dean's side.

"You must be the girl possessed by her demon lover," Lucifer said, retching the blade from Carly's back.

"Yes, I don't take kindly to you possessing my friend," Marie snapped.

"You shouldn't have involved yourself."

"Too late now."

Carly began to approach Marie as she ran, getting Lucifer away from the Winchesters. While she distracted him, Sam slid beside Dean, placing a hand on his cheek.

"Are you okay?" Sam asked.

"I could be better, but I'm still kicking." Dean muttered, Sam helping him up to his feet. "How did Marie know we were going to be here?"

"I told her...now you open the cage, we'll handle the rest."

Sam helped Dean to lean against the hood of the impala as he approached Marie and Lucifer. Dean whispered under his breath before throwing the rings onto the grass. The second they made contact the ground around them began to collapse, creating a giant hole within the dirt.

Lucifer turned to find the hole behind Carly and turned back to Sam and Marie with fury. Carly threw Marie across the grass, throwing her through a mausoleum door. Then Sam tried to push Lucifer backward, but Carly's feet wouldn't budge as she wrapped her hand around Sam's throat.

Sam struggled against her grip as Lucifer tightened Carly's hand, Sam's face beginning to turn red. As she continued to squeeze the life out of him, Michael reappeared with a long spear. Without hesitation he ran forward and stabbed it straight through Carly, causing her to let go of Sam as she hit the grass.

When she collided with the dirt, Michael pushed the spear in deeper to the point of Carly being impaled into the ground. Michael stood above her, placing a foot on Carly's shoulder as his gaze met hers. He gritted his teeth as he moved in closer to her face.

"They may have interrupted, but my mission is clear. I am going to kill you and just because you're in an innocent girl's body doesn't mean it's going to stop me," Michael snapped.

"A spear won't kill me, Michael." Lucifer gasped.

"This isn't an ordinary spear, Lucifer." Michael said, smiling triumphantly. "This one can and will kill you."

Michael grasped the spear tight in his hand and twisted, causing Carly's flesh to tear and rip. She screamed as Dean tried to go for her but the pain caused him to fall back to the ground. Marie woke up and came to stand beside Sam. They both looked at one another as Carly screamed louder. They both wanted to intervene but they had a plan and they were going to stick to it.

Lucifer tried to use Carly's hands to knock Michael back but every time they tried, Michael would dodge. It was evident that Lucifer was losing strength and there was fear in Carly's eyes, not just from her but from him as well. After one last attempt, Lucifer decided it was time to escape.

Black, billowing smoke flowed out from Carly's lips toward the sky. When it completely left her body, her head fell to the side. As this happened, Sam raised his hand toward it and whispered under his breath in Latin. "Cape hunc daemonem in anima mea."

The black smoke above Carly flew toward Sam and went into his mouth. Michael noticed this and tried to intervene, but Marie tackled him out of the way. Dean watched on with confusion and immense worry.

Sam closed his mouth and began walking toward the pit with a pained expression. Dean watched as Sam stopped in front of the hole, turning his back to it, so he could face Dean.

"It's okay Dean, I got him. I'm going to end this," Sam said through gritted teeth.

"Sam, you don't have to do this," Dean insisted.

Sam shook his head. "No, I do. You deserve to be happy and I am willing to sacrifice myself to let that happen. Please be kind to her."

Michael beat Marie to a bloody pulp and as he was about to kill her, he noticed Sam out of the corner of his eye. As he turned, he found Sam standing with his back to the hole. His hands were out and his eyes were closed.

Michael ran forward and grabbed Sam, trying to pull him away from the pit, but Sam had a better grip. He grasped Michael's arms as Sam pulled them both into the hole. Dean watched as Sam faded down into darkness, the hole sealing itself back up.

When the hole had vanished, Dean weakly crawled over to Carly. He grabbed the spear with both hands and pulled it free from her skin. Dean threw the spear across the field and placed a hand on Carly's cheek.

"Please wake up. I need you to wake up. Show me those lovely green eyes," Dean muttered.

He bent down and placed his forehead upon hers, his hands cupping her face. His tears wetted her skin as he tried his best to hold them back. He suddenly felt a hand on his. He moved back to find Carly's tired eyes opening.

"You think my eyes are lovely?" she whispered.

"The loveliest of them all."

Dean leaned down and kissed Carly. A spark went through them both as they kissed in unison. Both were tired and weak, but in that moment, it was just the two of them and nothing else mattered. When Dean pulled back, a shadow cast over them.

They looked up to find Castiel standing there. Carly and Dean were both confused as they believed him to be dead. Without a word, Castiel placed a hand upon Dean's forehead, healing all his injuries. He then did the same with Carly, a sigh of relief escaping her lips.

Dean helped Carly to stand. They both wanted to ask, but Castiel ignored their glances. He walked over to Marie and healed her as well before vanishing without a word. Dean and Carly looked at one another as they're gaze went to Marie.

She rose to her feet, checking to make sure everything was healed. When she realized it was, her attention turned to Carly. When Marie saw that Carly was okay, she smiled wide and ran forward, bringing Carly into a tight hug.

"I'm so glad you're alright," Marie muttered.

"I'm glad you are too."

They continued to hug for several more moments before Marie pulled back. When she did, Dean had a question that was plaguing his mind since she arrived. "Did you know Sam was going to take Carly's place?"

Carly looked from Dean to Marie as Marie nodded. "Yes, I did. He said my name aloud and we met when you took that pitstop at the rundown gas station. He told me of his plan and I agreed to help him since he didn't want to worry you."

"He should've told me," Dean muttered.

"If he told you, you would've tried to stop him." Marie admitted. "He knew this would save Carly and he was willing to jump into that pit, so you could be happy, Dean. It was his choice and he didn't regret it for a second."

"I just wish I could've had a proper goodbye."

Marie placed a hand on Dean's shoulder. "I know and I'm so sorry, but he loved you. I must be on my way, but if either of you need me, just say my name and I'll come running."

"Thank you, Marie," Carly said with a small smile.

"You're always welcome."

Marie stepped back and with a salute she was gone, leaving Carly and Dean alone in the graveyard. The two stood there for several moments before heading to the car. Dean opened Carly's door as she got in the passenger seat then he walked around the front of the car and got in the driver's.

Both sat there in silence, looking out the cracked windshield. As they sat there, Carly's thoughts were getting the better of her. Her hands began to shake as she gritted her teeth.

Dean noticed the look on Carly's face and understood what she was thinking. "I don't blame you."

"I beat you to a bloody pulp and cracked the impala's windshield when I threw you into it." Carly said, meeting his gaze with a tear-filled one. "How can you not blame me?"

"I'm all healed and the windshield will not cost that much to fix. This car has been through much worse I promise you," Dean said, reaching over and squeezing Carly's hand. "You weren't in control and I understand that. I saw the torment in your eyes when Lucifer hit me. You are not like him in the slightest."

"I'm not so sure," Carly muttered.

Dean's hand slid up to Carly's cheek. "You are not a monster, okay? If I have to remind you of that everyday for the rest of my life I am willing to do so. You are a beautiful strong fearless woman and nothing could ever change that."

"You truly believe that?" Carly asked.

"With all my heart," Dean admitted.

"Now that the apocalypse is over...what do we do now?" Carly asked.

Dean put both hands onto the steering wheel and faced the windshield. "I think we deserve to get drunk and eat until we can't eat anymore."

"I think I'd really like that."

The two smiled at one another as Dean started the car. He backed out of the graveyard and onto the main road. Both had grief in their hearts, but they had each other...and in the end...that is all that mattered.

The End
