"Brrrrring! Brrrrrrring!"

The phone in the office in Scrooge McDuck's money bin rang. Fenton Crackshell, who was sitting at his boss's desk, put down his pen and picked up the receiver, taking a break from making some calculations. "Hello? McDuck Enterprises. Fenton Crackshell speaking."

A woman's voice was heard over the phone. "Fenton? It's Eileen Talon."

Fenton paused, trying to think of why that name sounded familiar. Then, his already cheerful voice became even more cheerful when he remembered she was an old acquaintance. "Eileen! Hi! It's been years! What have you been up to?" He leaned back in the chair.

"I hope I'm not calling at a bad time."

"No, not at all! I'm at work, but I've got a few minutes. What's up?"

"I'm in Duckburg for a few days, and I was wondering if you'd like to meet somewhere for dinner sometime so we could catch up."

"I'd love to! I know a nifty little restaurant we could eat at."

"Okay. Can we meet up tonight?"

"Absolutely. Let's go to The Canary Cafe, say, around 6?"

"That sounds fine. See you then."

Later that same day, Fenton arrived at the restaurant, a little late. He recognized Eileen, a woman who was a little older than him, sitting at a table near one of the windows. She was a duck with white feathers and red, wavy hair, wearing a red blouse and matching skirt and high heels. Sitting next to her was a young girl with long, white hair and white feathers, who wore a brown, oversized sweater and blue jeans.

Fenton approached the table and shook hands with Eileen. "Hey, there, Eileen! Sorry I'm a bit late. Who have you got with you?"

Eileen shook his hand, politely. "Glad you could make it, Fenton. This is my daughter, Ava. Ava, this is Fenton Crackshell, an old friend of mine."

Fenton shook Ava's hand. "It's nice to meet you, Ava."

Ava said, quietly, "You, too, Mr. Crackshell."

Once they all were seated and ordered their drinks, Fenton asked, "So, Eileen, you still living in New Stork?"

"Yes. I wanted to take a vacation to Calisota, and I remembered you lived here and wanted to see you."

"I'm glad you did. What have you been up to?"

"Oh, not much. I'm still an airline stewardess. What about you?"

"I'm an accountant," Fenton answered, proudly. "I work for Scrooge McDuck."

"The richest duck in the world?"

"Yes, indeed! The very same!"

Eileen seemed slightly intrigued, but Ava wasn't paying any attention to them. Fenton turned to her and asked, "Ava, what do you like to do for fun?"

Ava seemed startled that he was talking to her. The question caught her off-guard. "Oh, umm...not much. Just, normal things, I guess."

Fenton nodded. Before he could say anything more, though, the waiter came back with their drinks and took their food orders. Once the waiter left, Eileen asked, "Fenton, could you come outside with me for a moment? I need some fresh air."

"Sure thing."

Eileen told her daughter, "Wait here. We won't be long."

"Okay, Mom."

Eileen and Fenton went outside while Ava waited at their table.

Outside the front of the restaurant, Eileen stopped and turned to Fenton, who said, "Gosh, Eileen, it's great to see you again. It's been, what, 10 years?"

"12. About 13."

"Time sure goes by fast."

"It does. A lot of things have changed. So, you've met Ava. What do you think of her?"

"She's swell," Fenton answered, genuinely. "She looks a lot like you. She's a great kid."

Eileen paused. "Fenton...she's your daughter."
