(A/N: Okay, yeah, short, I know. This is during Shadow.

Sammy has his hand on Daddy's shoulder, and Daddy's telling him he has to let him go.

He has this look on his face, one that Dean recognizes from when he was younger. From that first time they shared a bed because Sammy had had a nightmare and Daddy had told him to suck it up. Well, Sammy's been stuck in a nightmare for a while and he just wants Daddy to give in and make it all better.

And Daddy's telling him to suck it up.

So far, Sammy's been relying on Big Brother to make everything better, but it's been hard because Big Brother isn't around as often as he should and instead leaves Dean. Dean knows that Sammy wants to be able to throw a temper tantrum and have it be one of those rare times that Daddy concedes and gives him what he wants, but Sammy knows that it won't happen because Daddy doesn't like temper tantrums and more often than not Daddy calls in the assistance of Big Brother to deal with him and that's not what Sammy wants.

Sammy has always wanted Daddy to love him like he loves Dean. Sammy's pretty sure Daddy never told Dean to let him go.

Sammy doesn't know how to let go of Daddy, though, and he doesn't want to. Sammy has been looking for Daddy for too long to let go now.

What Sammy has just realized is that he can't find Daddy because all that is left is Dad.

So Sammy takes one more good look at Dad because he doesn't know when he'll see him next. He can feel his eyes watering up but tries to hold it back because Dean says crying is for babies and it's about time he started listening to Dean and stopped comparing him to Big Brother. Inwardly, he smiles bitterly, something that Sammy doesn't know how to do.

Inwardly, Sammy dies and lets Sam let go of Dad.
