It all started out as a normal day for 3-year-old Midoriya Izuku and 4-year-old Bakugo Katsuki, they were playing at the playground like usual, talking about how they both want to be amazing hero's when they grow up.

"Izuku we both know I'm going to be the number one hero, and the number one hero needs a number one sidekick." Katsuki said as he showed off his quirk, tiny pops lighting up his hands.

"After all we both know, no matter what my quirk will be better than yours." he said with a small smirk plastered on his face.

"You don't know that Kacchan, I'm going to have an amazing quirk that's just as strong as yours I'm sure of it!" Izuku said with stars in his eyes and a huge grin spread across his face "Sure Izuku, together we'll take down all the bad guys!" Katsuki laughs as he throws his arm around Izuku causing him to laugh along.

(The next week)

"Izuku, it's time to wake up dear." Inko, Izuku's mother, yelled from downstairs.

"It's your birthday we have to go see what your quirk is." Hearing these words Izuku shot straight up in bed.

"I can't believe how I could have slept through my alarm." He panicked, swiftly jumping out of his pajamas and into a plain t-shirt and shorts. Rushing downstairs, Izuku could smell the freshly cooked breakfast his mom had made for them before he reached the bottom. Just before Izuku could make it to the kitchen his mom stops him.

"Slow down mister, there is no need to rush, your appointment isn't until ten." Inko said sternly as she laid a bowl of rice on the table for Izuku to eat. Izuku made his way to the table and started shoveling rice into his mouth. After the pair had finished their breakfast and Inko had put all of the dirty dishes away they started their walk to the quirk doctor. The whole way there Izuku talked non stop about all kinds of hero's and about how once he has his quirk, he would be the greatest hero of all time. They arrived at the quirk doctor and got checked in, after waiting for a couple minutes the nurse who checked them in lets them know the doctor is ready for them. Izuku was tired of all this waiting and he wanted to know what his quirk was. A few more minutes pass and the doctor walks in, greets the family and starts doing a few tests on Izuku to see what type of quirk he might have.

"Alright Midoriya's it seems like young Izuku here will have a quirk and a rather strong one at that." Upon hearing these words, the only thing Izuku could think of is 'I really have a quirk! I can be a hero!'

"That's great Izuku!" Inko says before she turns back to the doctor. "Is there anything else you can tell us about his quirk?" Inko asked.

"Yes, but it's not much, from what I can tell he has an almost perfect combination of both yours and your late husband's quirks." The doctor says with a smile "He can breathe fire just like his late father but can also control that fire similar to your short-range telekinesis, but a drawback of this will most likely be that when he breathes his fire his throat could have some mild burns if overused." The doctor says as he looks up from his clipboard.

"We also saw from the results of the tests that there might be a possibility of a slight mutation, but there is nothing to worry about, it shouldn't have any serious effects" he says with a smile. "Oh, ok thank you for letting us know we'll make sure to keep an eye out." Inko said with a hint of worry in her voice. Smiling, she takes Izuku's hand and waves goodbye to the doctor heading back towards home.

(The next day at school)

The next day Izuku sat ecstatically waiting for recess to come so he could show everyone his quirk.

"Say Izuku, you sure seem happy today." Katsuki says with a slight smirk

"Oh hey Kaachan, yeah I'm just excited for recess, I have something exciting to show everyone." Izuku says with a bright smile spread across his face.

As class chugs along recess finally comes around. Everyone gathers around Izuku to see him breathe fire while he swirls his hands making the fire dance around his finger tips, while everyone watches in awe.

"Woah Izuku, so this is what you were excited about in class." Katsuki says with stars in his eyes. "Now there are no villains who can get in our way, I always knew I was going to have the best sidekick around!" Katsuki yells out in excitement, hands letting out little pops.

As he says this the only word Izuku can hear over and over in his head is 'sidekick'. "Sidekick… why can't I be your teammate Kaachan?" Izuku said with a sad voice, as his fire slowly started to die down. Katsuki, not hearing anything Izuku says, keeps on talking.

"I can see it now, Number one hero Bakugo Katsuki and his sidekick Midoriya Izuku." Katsuki says with pride "Just think of it Izuku, no you're not Izuku anymore you are Ryuu!" Katsuki says excitedly as he walks away with the class talking away leaving Izuku standing there lost in thought. As Izuku stands there lost in thought one of his classmates walks over to him.

"You think you are so cool now huh Izuku, well don't even think about it for a second you'll never be anything more than number two. Your quirk is just a discount version of Endeavors."

Already feeling like his dreams have been crushed of ever being anything more than a sidekick, Izuku turns to the kid and screams "Shut up, you don't know anything!" Fire roars out of his mouth taking the shape of a ghostly figure, as all of the hatred and anger pours out of Izuku into the figure, it glows a deep violent shade of red. A pounding headache, like someone bouncing a ball inside his skull, brings Izuku to his hands and knees as a feeling of emptiness washes over him. The last thing Izuku sees before the darkness takes hold of him is the figure slowly walking towards his classmate on the ground.
