Chapter 18
Sophia smiled lightly as she made her way from the kitchen to the living room, carrying the mug of coffee she had just made in one hand, a can of soda in the other hand. Entering the living room she spoke up.
"Hey Henry, here." She said.
She handed him the soda while sitting down with her coffee. They were currently at home by themselves, something that had been a change lately, she had recovered enough to not freak out enough that she could finally be left without supervision now. Their mom was out and Sophia decided to do something she hadn't had much time to focus on as she was too busy trying to get better.
"Thanks Sophia." Henry said. "So um...you wanted to talk?"
She nodded. "Yeah, I...I've been so busy focusing on my recovery, we've not really had a chance to get to know each other better. You know, now that we're siblings and all."
Henry smiled at that, touched that Sophia could still easily say that. After all she had been through so much, surely to be informed she had a step-brother upon her return was a shock to the system. Yet Sophia comfortably called him her brother without hesitation. Although he knew she was right, they really had to talk, to get to know each other better.
So, popping open his soda and taking a sip, Henry smiled lightly, considering for a moment.
"Okay, um...what do you want to know?" He asked at last.
Taking a sip of her coffee Sophia pondered. "How um...how was your life before mom adopted you. I mean...um...sorry, if that's too…"
"No, no, it's fine. I don't mind talking about it." Henry replied. "I lived with my parents and my brother, Benjamin. It was just a normal life. Nothing special about us."
He shrugged, as if to emphasise what he meant, how things were simple and normal for them, just as he said.
"Oh, I...I see." She replied. "So, then, how did you...how did you end up…?"
Henry sighed softly. "My...My parents died, when I was ten...two years ago. There was a car crash and, they. They didn't make it. It was just me and Benjamin after that, for about a month or so...around that time your mom got to know us."
"So, where...where is Benjamin now?" Sophia asked, worried.
"He's...he's dead too...just before your mom was about to adopt us, both of us." Henry revealed with his voice beginning to shake. "It was a, a completely random incident, some crazy drug addict tried to rob him and stabbed him."
Sophia gasped. "Oh my god...Henry, I, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have."
Henry shook his head and took a deep breath. "It's okay, it's okay. I'll be alright. I'm okay…"
Sophia shook her head and moved closer, hugging him, surprising him, but he hugged back and Sophia did her best to comfort him while they got ready to talk more and hear about each other.

Seated on the floor of the living room, Carl smiled to himself as he finished cleaning Judith's hands, she had got messy eating lunch. He was pretty much the unpaid babysitter, as was the standing joke, while Rick and Michonne were out.
'Raised me and Judith, Judith wasn't even out of diapers when they got together, yet dad and Michonne still feel the need to attend these parenting classes.' Carl reflected amused.
Carl shrugged and focused once more on Judith who was sitting watching the TV, set to the kids channel.
"Ju, I need to go clean up the kitchen, okay." He said. "So stay put, don't move from here till I get back okay, won't be long."
She nodded. "Kay."
He smiled and made his way through to the kitchen, depositing the wipes in the bin and quickly cleared away the now dry dishes from the sink. Satisfied that everything was cleaned up he returned to the living room and joined Judith once more.
"Mommy's gonna have the baby soon?" Judith asked at that moment.
Carl smiled. "Yeah, she is. That's gonna be good, right?"
Judith nodded. "Yeah."
He smiled, glad that Judith was happy at the thought of the baby, as much as he was. It certainly looked like, after all the drama during the past few years, things were finally settling down.
