The legendary city of Atlantis had resurfaced two years shy of a decade ago. However, the rest of the world remained still grappling to accept a myth was, in fact, reality. Team Atlantis had been on countless adventures throughout the globe since its restoration.

However, today? The only adventure taking place would be discovering the pleasures of reading. The Atlanteans were still relearning their own written language. Therefore encouraging literacy remained highly of the essence to them.

Yet, given their Queen's consort was a linguistic scientist? He'd played a significant role so far in the value of learning to read. Every year on Milo's birthday Atlantis holds "Literacy Day." The children were of the essence on Literacy Day, given they're the future of their domain. This held especially true when it came to two children in particular. Team Atlantis had had a running bet for years of when Kida's chastity belt would be removed. Given she and Milo never did anything other than hold hands.

Ultimately, they'd transition from a sexual abstention couple to genuine lovers. Given now they had children! None of the team was thrilled that Mole won the bet when the belt came off.

Currently, Queen Kida and Milo were sleeping, only to be rudely awakened by two high voices. "Give them back, Karana! Those are my mythology books!" a little boy's voice demanded.

"How can you even read them, Thaddeus? We both struggle with reading!" snapped a young girl's voice.

"Just because we've got a learning disorder, sis, doesn't mean we're illiterate! Dad's been helping us learn to overcome it, remember?"

"I'm just jerking your chain, little brother! Geez! Here!" the sound of something being thrown then knocking something over could be heard.

There was groaning from the Queen's bedchamber. "Whose turn is it to deal with them?" muttered Milo, to which his wife smiled, "Your turn, Milo. Seeing how I dealt with them last week, remember? Therefore it's your turn now."

"Ugh, the joys of parenting," he groaned as he at least threw on a shirt before walking out to the living room where his children were. Eight-year-old Karana was named after Kida's mother, and six-year-old Thaddeus was named after Milo's grandfather.

Karana and Thaddeus inherited their mother's skin tone, body type, smile, and eye shape. From their father? They'd received their nose, chin, eye color, and Thaddeus had glasses too.

Unlike the rest of Atlantis? The children inherited both their parent's hair colors. Which even Milo nor Sweet had been capable of genuinely explaining this oddity. Karana wore the white is in a high messy ponytail, with the red part in a long braid with her bangs half and half. Thaddeus has shoulder-length red hair with white highlights.

The children shared identical tattoos and accessories. They had stars on their left shoulder and the heart symbol on their right hand. Their left ear pieced, bangle on their right, plus two anklets on their left.

"Karana! Thaddeus! What in the name of Jimmy Cricket, are you doing up this early? It's not even half past seven!" scolded their father. The children glanced in their father's direction while looking shamefully at the ground. "Sorry, Dad. We're just thrilled because today is Literacy Day," his son apologized.

"Yes, we're looking forward to seeing our extended family today! We've not seen them in ages, Dad! I miss my big sister Audrey! She promised to teach me some of her sister's prizefighting abilities!" his female offspring responded.

"I want to see Grandpa Whitmore! He also gives us the best gifts!" his male offspring replied.

It was true Team Atlantis had become surrogate family members for his children. Vinnie, Sweet, Cookie, and Mole were their uncles. Packard was their aunt, Audrey their sister, and Whitmore their grandfather.

"I understand you're looking forward to our extended family visiting. However, please remember people are still asleep like your mother and me. Therefore please be more considerate, okay?" he gave them a short lecture, to which they nodded. "Good, glad we've got an understanding. Therefore could you please go play quietly until your mother and I are ready and awake?"

"Yes, Dad," they replied before heading back to their bedrooms. Smiling, Milo returned to Kida to catch some extra z's. By ten, everyone in Atlantis was thoroughly awake, had eaten, and was ready to greet their guests. So they came flying in on their flying fish.

The young prince and princess leaped into their extended family's open arms. Listening to many give the usual "how much you've grown!" line to them. Kida and Milo greeted them all before reminding them of what today was about. Everyone smiled as Team Atlantis set up an activity to improve the young children's reading, writing, and spelling abilities.

Sweet was in charge of the sing-a-long table. He'd the children sing different songs related to various parts of the body. "Like which bone connected." Vinnie set up his version of hang-man, using mini gallows with a candle to help move the game along.

Cookie's activity was a picture-word game. First, he'd show them various photographs, and the children had to spell them. Next, Mole played digging for words. He'd cut up some letters, hid them in the dirt, then children had to unearth them before making a word out of them.

As for the remainder of the team? Packard kept a scrapbook by taking photographs and all that. Audrey would be the one reading a story to the children later. Finally, both Whitmore and Milo would give essential speeches on the topic. Milo, Kida, and Whitmore currently went from table to table, gently helping everyone as they stumbled.

Karana and Thaddeus did their most beneficial at each exercise. Which made their parents smile at the hard work they were putting into overcoming their dyslexia. Eventually, Audrey came forward to read the children her favorite childhood book. All the children listened attentively as she read to them. Then, closing the book, she asked the children questions regarding the story, which they enthusiastically answered.

Finally, the speeches were given, and everyone cheered loudly. Another triumphant Literacy Day indeed!
