A week has passed since Literacy Day for Atlantis, and Team Atlantis enjoyed some downtime before going on their next adventure.

The past week had been quite hard for Milo. He'd been complaining about pounding headaches on the right side. After getting a thorough check-up, Sweet's conclusion was Milo was suffering from stress headaches. It seemed very plausible, given the amount of stress, plus lack of sleep Milo got between adventures, his children, plus helping all of Atlantis.

Sweet had ordered mandatory bed rest for Milo. He'd complied with the doctor and was currently in his bedroom sleeping. In an attempt to lower her husband's stress levels, his wife, Kida, had taken their children elsewhere so as not to bother him.

They'd gone to the brand-new recreational subdivision that Team Atlantis helped build on their last visit, so the Atlanteans and their children had a place to play and enjoy nature. Kida decided to use the opportunity to teach her children her favorite childhood game. It was a board game that was a cross between chess and capture the flag.

The pieces were similar to chess and moved in the same way. The board, however? It had various terrains which you had to navigate. Also, only certain pieces could move through each one.

Next, there were various traps scattered around the board. If you activated a trap, your piece was removed from play. The traps were randomly set up by the players, so they're never the same twice.

The objective was to navigate through it all to get to the other side. Once you got to the other side, you had to capture the other's symbol game piece. Not an easy thing to accomplish.

Once Kida had explained the rules three times. Plus, demonstrated how to play, the children began to play. Quickly Karana took the lead. However, midway through the game, Thaddeus came up with a better strategy. Then towards the end, things looked too close until finally, Karana pulled out a win.

By this time, the rest of Team Atlantis showed up. Eager to play, they'd play a small tournament between themselves to see who was the best. The last game was between Vinnie and Thaddeus, where Thaddeus pulled out the win!

By now, it was sunset. So everyone went back to their respectful homes to rest. However, when the royal family gets home, they're in for a rude shock. When they'd returned home? Milo had spent the afternoon vomiting and exclaimed he couldn't see correctly! He couldn't even make out his own family!

He only knew it was them by the sound of their voices! Kida immediately sent for Sweet. Sweet instantly came with the rest of the Team. He did a second thorough exam. Only this time, he did a lot more vision tests.

Milo failed the eye exam miserably. He couldn't see at all from the right side. This was very concerning. Sweet read several medical textbooks. Then again, asked if Milo had had any other symptoms.

Finally, the only diagnosis that fit was the early stages of Glaucoma. Which even Kida, who was over 8000 years old, never heard of. Also, given they'd never cured her father's blindness, they didn't know if they could help save Milo's vision.

Sweet knew Milo's only hope was surgery. However, he'd never done anything as delicate as eye surgery. Nor had he'd ever performed this particular surgery. He'd only read about it. Furthermore, reading and performing are two entirely different things.

They'd no choice but to send Milo to a hospital on the mainland. The Team quickly returned to D.C. Then quickly found a hospital with surgeons who had done this particular procedure before.

For over eight hours, they waited to hear any news. Finally, they wheeled Milo into recovery. The doctors assured the Team that they'd been able to save Milo's vision. However, it is a long road to recovery. The doctors also informed the Team that this was due to genetics.

Given that Milo was far younger than most patients with the disease. Furthermore, he was white, whereas South Asians were more like to get. Plus, he'd a relatively healthy diet. So the only conclusion came down to genetics.

Kida didn't know if she could deal with the fact her children had a risk of going blind. Still, she'd survived so many other tragedies. She could get through this. The young queen requested all the data the doctors had on the condition. Plus any other medical data they had at their disposable. Given the crystals had limits. This information was critical and the only way Atlantis could survive further into the future. One can only hope we live to see a better future for all of humanity.

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, the health of which is vital for good vision. This damage is often caused by abnormally high pressure in your eye. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness for people over the age of 60.

Symptoms of Glaucoma

Seeing halos around lights.

Vision loss.

Eye redness.

Whitening/haziness of the cornea.

Eye pain.

Patchy blind spots inside or central vision.

Tunnel vision.

Severe headaches.

This nerve is essential for your eye health. If it becomes damaged, it can cause permanent vision loss and, in some cases, it may even lead to blindness. Glaucoma is typically caused by high pressure inside your eyes. However, diabetes can also be a risk factor for Glaucoma.

So, What Foods Should You Avoid If You Have Glaucoma?

Caffeine. Some studies suggest caffeine increases intraocular pressure, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure. ...

Saturated Fats. ...

Trans Fats. ...

Weight-Lifting. ...

Scuba Diving. ...

Bungee Jumping. ...

Yoga.

Glaucoma is a slowly progressing problem. On average, untreated Glaucoma takes around 10-15 years to advance from early damage to total blindness.

People over age 60 are at increased risk for the disease. African Americans, however, are at increased risk after age 40. The risk of developing glaucoma increases slightly with each year of age.

Studies show that eating foods rich in retinol (Vitamin A), beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin may help reduce the risk or help prevent Glaucoma and maintain healthy eyesight for people at higher risk.

Stages: stage 0 (standard visual field), stage I (early), stage II (moderate), stage III (advanced), stage IV (severe), and stage V (end-stage). Staging criteria are based mainly on the HVF, with MD as the primary measure.

Glaucoma can occur for several reasons. Most cases are caused by a build-up of pressure in the eye when fluid cannot drain properly. This increase in pressure damages the nerve that connects the eye to the brain (optic nerve).

The test is highly accurate in detecting Glaucoma, and it is executed with a tool called a tonometer. In this procedure, the doctor uses a pencil-shaped device that contacts the surface of the eye. It doesn't hurt as eyes are numbed with eye drops.
