Hello! I'm back, this time with a brand new collection of Chloe-centric stories, all based around her time in Switzerland. These are all mini stories with flashbacks, and I hope you'll enjoy them. Let me know if there is anything you'd like to read, I am very open to ideas! This is named after a line from one of my favourite songs from the film Brave which I was introduced to by the amazing IseultLaBelle on here, who has been the most supportive friend whilst I've been writing this!

As always, likes and reviews are much appreciated!

Em x

"Hi Chloe, it's mum, I just wanted to make sure you've landed safely, to find out how the journey was, to say… I miss you but I know that you're going to have a fabulous time! Dom said he can't wait to come and see you when he's next got annual leave. I've been moved to a different ward but it's nice to be around people again, and Isabella is doing fabulously, so's her brother. We've decided what to call him, but I'll tell you when we speak "face to face" as it were, although I guess it's going to be facetime for the foreseeable… anyway, have a great time, you're going to be absolutely fabulous in Switzerland, they're so lucky to have you! I love you so so much…"

Chloe let a few stray tears roll down her cheek as she lay on her bed in the hotel listening to the voicemail that Ange had sent just a few hours before, when Chloe was still stuck waiting for her suitcase to make it through security in the airport. She gazed out of the panoramic window, savouring the stunning view across the city into the mountains. Lake Geneva glistened on the horizon as she redialled Ange's number. Nothing. Chloe sighed and pulled her mustard coat from her bag. As she pulled it on, the room filled with the smell that was inexplicably home, a mixture of her mum's washing powder and perfume, combined with her own shampoo. She closed her eyes, picturing home. She wasn't sure if she was picturing Glasgow or Holby, perhaps more of an amalgamation of the two, but wherever it was, it was home for her.

Her lock screen caught her eye as her phone lit up with a notification. The photo that had been set for over a year was a photo of her and her mum before one of their first shifts together, the smiles they had in that photo were not mirrored by the end of the shift, Chloe remembers solemnly: they had lost 3 patients that day, all between Chloe and Ange's ages and it had terrified them both. They had moved on though, gradually, and worked together regularly after that, spending as much time with one another before they had to go home. That was before Chloe moved in with her mum, after her flatmates practically kicked her out. Her attention returned to the phone, and she smiled to herself, recalling the bittersweet goodbye she had shared with her mum before Dom dropped her off at the airport.

"Hey," Chloe slowly opened the door and spoke softly for fear of disturbing her mum.

"Chloe?" Ange called, her voice still groggy from sleep and her eyes barely open.

"I'm here, I thought I'd come and say bye to you, being as I am headed for the continent in a couple of hours. Besides, I'm going to need enough hugs to get me through a couple of months- it's not like uni where I can be home every other weekend, I mean, I was home every weekend in the third year, except for when you decided you wanted to abandon me in Scotland and move to London for three months," she teased, knowing that neither of them would change any of it.

"Oi you! I wanted the experience, and it didn't hurt you to be independent for a bit, and it wasn't three months, it was three weeks!" Ange sounded far more awake and as a result, Chloe perched on the end of the bed, feeling less guilty for waking her mum up.

"Ok, fine! But I'm going to miss you, and the twins. I know they're going to get lots of Chlo cuddles as soon as I can see them properly. I'm going to miss you so much mum," Chloe edged closer to her mother's side, willing her to wrap her arms around her daughter and never let go. Despite the pain, Ange drew her into a hug, and held her for a while. Neither were aware of the time until Chloe's phone pinged. Ange threw her daughter a questioning look as she broke their hug.

"Dom's getting inpatient," Chloe explained, "I ought to be going. I love you so much mum, and I'll ring you as soon as I can. Say bye to everyone for me." Chloe gave Ange a kiss on the cheek and grabbed her bag and coat before disappearing out into the car park to meet her brother.

As she wandered through Geneva, Chloe admired the quaint, cobbled streets of the old town, museums and art galleries all around and small, independent boutiques and cafés dotted around. around. The autumn sunset glowed as her small heeled boots clicked their way down the hill towards the tramway, the mountains in the distance poking out from above the rooftops. With a takeaway coffee in hand, Chloe began the journey back to her hotel, the sun gradually moving further towards the horizon as she walked.

The stars twinkled as Chloe stood at her hotel window, willing Ange to pick up the phone. After the endless, monotonous beeping ended, it was Josh who answered her call.

"Chloe?" His tired voice echoed through the tinny speaker on her phone.

"Oh, hey Josh, is mum around?" Chloe questioned.

"Yeah, she's just sat down. How are you doing?"

"I'm alright thanks, Switzerland is beautiful and I'm beginning my flat hunt tomorrow. But I'm missing home a bit already. How're the twins?"

"They're doing well, all things considered and the doctors are thinking of letting us bring them home at some point next week, but they haven't fully decided, anyway, your mum knows more about that than I do, so I'll pass you over,"

"Alright, thanks Josh, that's amazing news, I'm so pleased for you. I'm sure I'll speak to you this week, bye." Chloe smiled with happiness about the news of her siblings. When Josh passed the phone to Ange, the mother and daughter spent hours talking: Chloe explaining every minute of the journey and in turn, Ange complaining about how long it had taken her to fill out the paperwork to discharge herself, before telling Chloe all about her younger siblings, including revealing Alistair's name to her. Chloe had loved the name, and launched into a lengthy explanation of the Gaelic roots of the name, despite Ange's protests. After the pair finally ended their conversation, Chloe lay on her bed, Ange's "I love you" and virtual hug from across the continent, combined with the homely scent of her weighted blanket making her feel at home, despite being miles away. She had moved away from a place with both sad and happy memories to a new country all together where she had the freedom to make her own new, happy memories, and she was content.
