It only took a couple of weeks for Maya to get back to Westeros. Luckily, the men on the ship didn't bother to talk to her or taunt her since they already assumed that she was one of the Faceless Men. She didn't deny or confirm their suspicions. Maya wondered if Jaime had made it back to King's Landing…if he went back to Cersei. His sister.
There would always be that insecurity inside of her whenever she was reminded of her husband's past. She was always afraid that he would one day wake up and not love her anymore thus going back to his sister once again. Maya couldn't let herself get emotional right now…not when she was so close to them. Her enemies.
The ship stopped at the dock that reached King's Landing. At The Red Keep. It was as if fate had decided where she was going to and needed to be at much to her dismay. They docked at Blackwater Bay and Maya stood frozen at the top of the plank which led down to the dock.
She felt her heart drop into her stomach and she took in a deep breath. Maya saw all of them standing there on the cliffs that led up to The Red Keep. Every one of them was there. Tyrion, Cersei, Tywin, Varys, Littlefinger, Grand Maester Pycelle, but thankfully not Joffrey. If he were there then she would've had Winter rip him into bits. There were many, many, many guards-Lannister soldiers.
Of fucking course they knew that she was coming…one of these rats must've told them. Winter probably gave her away.
Let the game begin.
Maya smirked at them and unclasped her cloak. Winter walked beside her as they walked down the plank, her smirk turning into a cold smile. Her heels clicked against the wood as Winter's claws tapped against it as well. There were Lannister and Baratheon flags as well, flying high in air though there were more of the Lannister ones. They wanted to intimidate her…to show her that they have power over her.
I would rather die with my eyelids torn off and my skin ripped off of my muscles than to let them overpower me.
"Lady Maya," Tywin greeted once she was close enough to them. "It's so good to see you again."
"Yes, absolutely wonderful," Maya said sarcastically though she hid it well. "Even though I already know the answer to this question, I'm still going to ask it sooo…how did you know that I was coming back?"
Tywin's lips curved for a spilt second into an amused smile, but as quickly as it came it soon disappeared. He turned around and started to walk up the steps, he obviously wanted her to follow him so after she let out a frustrated sigh, she followed him up the stairs.
"Restrain the wolf," Cersei's cold voice rang out.
"Over my dead body," Maya snapped angrily.
"That can be arranged," she replied.
Maya let out a rich laugh. "Are you serious right now? If you-no, wait, if your father wanted me dead then I would be, but yet here I am. Alive and breathing because you and everyone else knows that Jaime loves me and I am his wife-I am very important to him."
"We'll see, won't we, little wolf," Cersei told her.
Maya shrugged and then let her soft pink lips curl into a small smirk. "People do crazy things when they are in love."
"The dog stays," Tywin's stern voice ordered though he looked slightly bored.
Maya's cold eyes met every glare, every stare, and every glance as she walked up the cliffs with Winter following behind. She could literally feel all the eyes of everyone who glanced at her all over her. She could hear their soft whispers from where she walked, but she really didn't care. She wondered why they were suddenly looking at her with pity in their eyes. It sort of angered her because these people didn't know what she had went through and she never wanted anyone's sympathy.
They walked to the Tower of the Hand and memories flushed her mind. Maya remembered playing hide and seek with Arya then finding her balancing on one foot with her arms out because of her teacher, Syrio. She wanted to laugh sometimes at both of her sisters' antics. They were always at each other's throats it seemed, but they still loved each other and stuck together.
"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."Maya remembered her father saying to her when she was a little girl. She suddenly felt a cold wind rush past her legs and she knew that it was her father warning her that winter was coming…and soon.
Maya was indeed heard of Theon's betrayal to Robb, how he burned down her home, and took her brothers-oh Gods, her little pups. She forced the tears back and gulped down the thump in her throat.
Now was not the time.
She also heard about Robb's betrayal to Walder Frey and how he married another instead for love. Maya wished she was over there just so that she could slap his face and tell him what an idiot he was being, playing right into the lions' hands. She followed him into his study and sat down in front of him across the desk.
"I heard about your miscarriage," Tywin said. "My condolences."
Maya let a "soft" smile on her face. "Thank you, but obviously the Gods thought it was not meant to be."
"The Gods have no mercy."
"That's why their called Gods," Maya added.
"Jaime…"
Maya froze. "What about Jaime?"
A long moment of silence passed over them before Tywin said, "I received a raven today from Lord Bolton. Jaime's there and Lord Bolton is sending his men with him back to King's Landing. He should be arriving in two days maybe."
"That's wonderful," she replied politely while Tywin was eyeing her curiously. "Let's skip the useless and boring chit-chat and get right down to business."
Maya leaned forward in her chair and laced her hands together on top of the desk, a cold and yet emotionless expression came over her face. "Where is she?"
"Where is who, my lady?"
She scoffed. "Cut the crap, my lord. I've already lost too many siblings and I don't intend to lose another so I'll ask you again," She growled lowly. "Where. Is. Sansa."
"Where she always has been," Tywin said to her cryptically.
Maya stood up and without another word; she strode out of the room as quickly as possible. She decided that it would do the Lannisters great good to have her closer to them. So she figured that they moved her somewhere they could easily get to her and keep an eye on her. She found a double door a couple of minutes later and strode inside of it. It was an empty room, but as she turned a corner, she saw her redheaded sister sitting by a window, lost in thought until she heard a door being closed.
Sansa whirled around and widened her eyes. "Maya?"
"Sansa!" Maya exclaimed happily and the sisters embraced each other. Sansa's hands tightened into balls on her back as she cried into her chest.
"You're alive," Sansa sobbed happily.
Maya nodded. "I was never dead."
Sansa pulled back. "Why did you leave in the first place?"
"I-I…Jaime took me when he went to war with us. I was his wife so it wouldn't be considered kidnapping. There, he got me pregnant and I was only a few months along when Robb came and found me-us. He then locked the man I have come to love in a cage like a chained up beast. Winter almost died protecting Jaime, she's now blind in one eye. I lost my daughter, Hope when Jaime had escaped the first time. I couldn't stay…I just needed some time away from here and get my head straight. I'm so-"
"You don't ever need to apologize to me," Sansa cut her off. "I somehow understand why you went away."
"You were too far to get and I had no idea where Arya was. I had to be smart about this. I apologize, Sansa. I was supposed to stay longer, but once I heard that my family was in danger, I went on the first ship out of there and to here. I knew that I couldn't hide for long though." Maya confessed, holding her sister's hands in hers.
A tear slipped down Sansa's cheek ."You then, don't you? About what Theon did to them?"
Maya nodded and sniffled. "I know and-and…all I want to do is end them. All of them."
"Even Jaime."
"No," she snapped. "He's not like the rest of them."
"He's a Lannister. The same one who pushed Bran out of a window while he bedded his sister. The same one who earned the name Kingslayer because he killed the Mad King. The same one who's known as an oathbreaker because he broke all of his vows."
"No, he didn't break all of them. He kept his word. You don't know him like I do."
Sansa sighed in fustraion and stepped away from Maya. Maya was surprised because she had never seen Sansa act this way before. She wasn't her shy and meek self, no this was someone else. Someone that was really starting to piss off Maya when she mouthed off about Jaime. Maya always had this sense of loyalty to Jaime ever since she said those three words to him. She thought that she would regret saying them, but now that she thought of it…she really had no regrets about them.
"Honestly, Maya, how can you love a man like that?!" Sansa shouted.
Maya's eyebrows knitted and she protested, "Because I still believe in him. I believe that there is good inside of him and that he is an honorable and good man."
"He's practically rotten to the core. Did you already forget what he and his family have done to ours?!"
"No, I didn't. I…he's changed. He's different; please just trust me, Sansa." Maya pleaded.
Sansa scoffed. "Do you even know where we are right now?! We're surrounded by Lannisters…how can I even trust anyone?! You're married and in love with one and I'm…and I'm going to be married to the dwarf."
"I'm just going to pretend that I did not just here that," Maya warned her as she glared coldly at her then stood up, leaving the room.
But before she left the room, she said softly, "You're lucky to be married to someone like Tyrion Lannister. He's the kindest and most intelligent man I know. If anything, he is probably the only one who may understand what you're going through since you think that I do not."
Maya decided to wake up early the next day and didn't even eat actually. She wore a crimson red flowing dress that didn't really show her curves which she was thankful for since she really wanted to be comfortable today. The handmaidens that were picked for by Cersei had pulled and then twisted her hair into an elegant making her look like a lady. She remembered how tight that they had tightened her corset. She really wanted to slap them…or hit them for doing that to her.
Maya left the room and wandered about the castle, managing to avoid the guards. She could swear that in the corner of her eye, she saw them lurking behind and keeping their distance from her. They were watching her. Maya decided to take a "walk" into the gardens and went into the maze; she could now clearly see the rather large group of guards behind her, trying to appear casual.
How stupid do they think I am? Seriously! Fucking Lannisters!
Maya ran as fast as her legs could take her around the maze, she let out a rich and genuine laugh as she heard the sounds of metal clanking together. She knew that it was most likely from their amour as they were trying, but immensely failing at finding her. Maya turned a great many corners of the maze before finally coming into an opening where a white gazebo lied. Maya felt her heart soften as she remembered this place-their place.
Maya gazed out into the Narrow Sea as she stepped onto it and let an unconscious smile appear on her face as she remembered Jaime taking her here. It was the second time that they had sex and it was just after their wedding. She also remembered the horrible things she had said to him and briefly wondered how Jaime could still love her after she refused to and was being so goddamn stubborn about it. The thought often confused Maya and always raised her curiosity.
How did he fall in love me?
What did I do to make me feel those things?
Why?
These were questions that mostly plagued her mind when her thoughts of Jaime would lead to a dark place.
Suddenly a winter rose was placed in front of her on the ledge and she furrowed her eyebrows at the one who did this…Tyrion smiled softly up at her then turned his eyes to the sea.
"I was walking through the halls one day and something…well, some would call it strange, but I called it magical. Something magical happened when I stopped and saw Jaime bowing to a stubborn She-Wolf with a winter rose in his hand in the gardens. This wolf smiled down at him, a warm smile that is and planned to obviously kiss him on the cheek, but my brother kissed her on the lips instead." Tyrion told her. "This event confused me greatly. I had never seen my brother look at her the way he did at anyone…not even her. Then I realized that it reminded me of how my father used to look at my mother. Jaime may not have understood his feelings at first, but eventually he learned that he had fallen in love with that girl and would do anything for her. Even kill hundreds of innocent men for her which he did in case you were wondering."
Tyrion turned to her and she did the same as well. "Jaime loves you and only you. Don't listen to what she says or believe a word that comes out of that mouth unless it comes from only Jaime himself. He was happy when he was with you, he loved Hope, your daughter before she was even born because then he would have another one of you to make him happy. Boy or girl-it never mattered to him."
Maya opened her mouth to reply, but Tyrion continued, "I heard what you said about my brother…being a good man and accepting him…and me as well. I just wanted to thank you, Maya…for being…um, for being-"
"Forgiving," she asked.
"Compassionate…and for loving my brother as much as he loves you," Tyrion said truthfully.
Maya bent down and kissed his cheek. "We're family, Tyrion. It's what their for, right?"
Maya stood up and walked away from him, his eyes following her then travelling back to the Narrow Sea to wonder what was so special about it that made her cross it and plan to stay there.
Her father's words rang in her ear over and over again it seemed…
"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives."
"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives
"The white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives."
"The lone wolf dies, but the pack survives."
"The pack survives."
"The pack survives."
And my family will survive no matter what…even if I do die in the end.
