Maya felt her eyes open to the bright warm sunlight shining on her face. She looked beside her and saw that Jaime was still wide awake and alert, glancing into the distance from the carriage. He was holding her hand tightly in his own, she smiled softly at him.
"Are we there yet?"
Jaime turned towards her, returning her smile. "Yes, Rose. Just a mile through Lannisport then we'll be at Casterly Rock."
"You should sleep," she scolded lightly.
"I can't," He admitted. "Nor while there are people trying to kill you and our son. I'll sleep when he is born...maybe not even then will I be relaxed enough to sleep."
"I know that you are concerned with our safety," she began, scooting closer to him. "But I want us to just enjoy the time that we may have left with each other before things could possibly get worse."
Jaime knitted his eyebrows in confusion. "Don't tell me that you seriously believe what Jon Snow said in that letter you received? The White Walkers and all that shit?"
Maya shrugged. "How could I not? He's my brother and what reason would he have to lie to me, Jaime. He wants to keep me safe-to keep us safe. We have to prepare for the war with the dead."
Jaime sighed heavily. "You don't need to worry about-"
"I do," she snapped sharply. "I want the best future for our children and what kind of example would I set if I just sat back and did absolutely nothing. Jon sent us some dragonglass...he said that it can kill them according to one of his brothers who used it on a White Walker."
"Tell me that you don't believe in those-"
"I believe in many things, Jaime. I have seen enough to know that life is full of possibilities. I was raised to see the wrath of the old gods as my worst nightmare...although I don't pray to them, I still like to choose my words about them because I don't really know what's out there...I was given barely even an inch of the knowledge of the unknown. There is so much more than Westeros and Essos, Jaime, don't you ever wonder?"
Jaime scoffed and glanced out into the distance once again. "I'm comfortable with the life I have now."
"Oh, really," she drawled out in question. "So you're okay with everyone calling you 'Kingslayer'? You're okay with our children's ability to know everything about our lives and what kind of person their parents are just by asking some town drunk? What if they don't look at you with the same love that I do? What if our pasts ruin them, Jaime, and all because you couldn't walk away from this place-this life?"
Maya placed her hand on the side of his face, turning his face gently back to her. "Why can't you? I hate this place because it reminds me of everything that I've lost...it's given me nothing, but pain and loss. It did the same for you."
The carriage went through the Lion's Mouth, the entry to Casterly Rock and their new home. It was an enormous natural cavern, looking to reach almost two hundred feet high and wide enough for twenty riders to go through in a straight line. Maya was amazed at how it still stayed with its golden glimmer, the entry was in the shape of a lion opening its mouth wide as if it were eating you. The lion's teeth didn't have the appearance as teeth at all, but looked like large daggers...waiting for the right moment to strike. This must be how the term, entering a lion's den came into the world since you are now in their territory.
Nowhere to run.
Nowhere to hide.
Maya noticed how a large crowd was there to greet them which caused her to raise a skeptical eyebrow at them. It stopped in front of them, Maya noticed that they seemed to be hardly near the entrance of the castle itself, but on a bridge that connected to a massively high and long staircase. Her legs ached at the thought of climbing those horrid steps just to sleep.
No wonder the Lannisters preferred to stay in the Capital especially since there are less stairs to climb.
Before Jaime stepped out of the carriage, he responded to her question from before, "I actually like it here, Maya. I prefer this to be never spoken again. Our children will stay here and so will we. End of discussion."
Maya was completely perplexed at Jaime's response since that man was so adamant on protecting her and their child, he even took her away in the night to protect her. Why was he refusing to leave this place? There is nothing here for him since Tyrion already left and his father long dead in his stead.
What is it then?
Lucian's words from a couple of weeks ago came through her mind. "Funny how your husband decides to run away with you in the middle of the night when he knew that I was in the Capital."
Maya watched her husband talk to some of the men who were there to greet him, they honestly looked like they were kissing his ass and hoping to get someone out of it. He nodded at something a man who looked like a maester said to him, then they both looked behind and at her. She thought about telling them to go fuck themselves, but then, her mother's voice came into her head, scolding her to be proper and that men hate it when their wives had the gracefulness of giving a proper silent treatment.
So Maya sat up straight and exited the carriage, Winter beside her and guarding her as well. She watched with quiet amusement as Winter made a path for through the people as she held her head up high. Winter growled at some of them, almost lunging towards them if they didn't move or didn't moved fast enough for the wolf's liking.
Casterly Rock was carved out of a great stone hill colossal rock beside the Sunset Sea. Tyrion had told her once long ago that he always believed it to resemble a lion in repose at sunset. There were tall walls, gates, and watchtowers all around them, Maya believing that no one could possibly siege Rock itself looked like it was three times the height of the Wall or the Hightower of Oldtown. Its tallness almost frightened Maya because she wondered what happened if it all fell to bits one day.
Tyrion also told her that The Rock was almost two leagues long from west to east, and contains tunnels, dungeons, storerooms, barracks, halls, stables, stairways, courtyards, balconies, and gardens. Its port has docks, wharves, and shipyards and was accessible by longships and cogs. She became more interested in going to Casterly Rock when he claimed that from below the Rock thunder can be heard, where the sea comes in. In the bowels of the Rock are rooms where caged lions were once kept, and cells for the worst prisoners. Maya guessed then that he was most likely trying to scare her for some reason that she would need to remember and ask later if she ever saw him again.
Maya walked up the steps and noticed that four handmaidens were silently following her, wearing dresses with a similar color to her own which was a soft pink. She could just barely see the glittering waters of the Sunset Sea over the edges of the walls.
Somehow a scary thought passed through her mind as she followed Winter up the steps to the castle.
Is this my prison now? Was I wrong to blindly follow Jaime since I love him?

THANK YOU FOR THE REVIEWS, FOLLOWS, AND FAVORITE! You guys are really and truly awesome to me and it really sucked when I got this major writer block with this story! It was like I knew what I wanted kind of, but didn't know how to put it in the story.
As you can see, Jaime and Maya are having problems with what kind of life they want their children to have. I know that it may seem a little weird that Jaime would want to stay there, but all will be explained soon enough. Maya is starting to wonder if she made a mistake, not at least hearing out Lucian (Chapter 38, in case, you forgot since I took too long to update).
I really do promise that I will update so I'm really sorry about this lame short chapter, but I hoped you liked it.
REVIEW. FOLLOW. FAVORITE. Until next time...
