Prompt:
#16. Robin and Regina go a camping trip and have separate tents, but for some reason one person's tent and/or sleeping bag is destroyed
Maybe camping is not so bad
Regina had always loved going camping. When she was a little girl, her father Henry used to go camping with some of his friends and when their children were of an appropriate age, they began to take the kids with them, so of course Regina's father did the same. Ruby was the only other girl in the group and the two of them became immediately friends and then best friends.
Regina's mother wasn't much of a camping person, but she loved that her daughter loved it and loved nature. And while Cora wouldn't be caught dead sleeping in a forest, she was the one who taught her daughter everything about the stars, to respect nature and the different useful things she could find in the woods. Her father on the other hand taught her how to survive and how to hunt in the woods.
When her father died, Regina stopped with the camping trip. All the other fathers of the group had offered to take her, but she always refused, saying that without her father camping didn't make any sense.
That didn't change for a couple of years, until Regina's brother begged her to go camping with him because despite being older, he didn't know a thing about camping since he had never done it.
Cora had remarried three years after her husband's death to a man who had a son two years older than Regina. Neal and Regina got along well, more than well. They had each other's back for everything and they always helped each other.
That is why when Neal asked her to go camping, even if it was with a heavy heart because of the memories, she said yes.
That was the first of many camping trips and how she found herself camping now with a group of people between twenty and twenty three years old. The group was composed by her friends, some of the ones she went camping with when she was a little girl, and some of Neal's mates. They were all friends, some more than the others, but it was a good group.
Robin was one of Neal's bestfriends and he might also be a little too close to Regina for what Neal liked, she was his little sister after all. But Regina didn't seem to worry too much about the closeness.
They had been in the woods for about half a day, they had put on the tents, they had eaten dinner and now they were around the fire roasting marshmallows. Robin and Regina were sitting together, as were Ruby and Neal and some of the group. The guys being guys had left the marshmallows into the fire too much and they were now on fire. Everything would be fine if they hadn't begun to play with said marshmallows and the sticks like they were swords.
They were all talking and laughing until a strange 'uh-oh' from the guys who were playing with the marshmallows stopped them. One of the marshmallows had flown away from one stick and had landed on Regina's tent which caught on fire immediately.
"Oh shit!" Robin and Neal were on their feet instantly to try to stop the fire, followed by other people.
Regina on the other hand was still. "Are you fucking kidding me!" She exclaimed, looking at her tent from the point she was standing. Then she looked at the two idiots. "Really guys?! You couldn't find anything else to do to pass the time?!" She was so angry. John and Will looked down, half amused and half worried about themselves. A happy Regina was okay but an angry Regina was terrifying.
Her tent was destroyed but lucky for her, Robin or Neal, she wasn't sure who it was, was able to save her backpack. At least she still had all her things, including her sleeping bag but not her blanket. She was going to freeze.
Regina felt someone approach her from behind. Not even a second later Ruby was next to her.
"Look at it this way: now you don't have to find an excuse to sleep in Robin's tent."
Regina looked indignant while Ruby was smirking like crazy. "Why? Are you denying that you want to sleep with him?"
"Ruby!"
"Not sleep sleep with him, just sleep."
"What's going on between Robin and I is not your business."
"So something is going on?" She pressed.
"Not. Your. Business."
"Okay but at this rate nothing will ever happen between the two of you." If a look could incinerate Ruby would be a roasted potato. She lifted her hands in the air. "Okay okay, I back off." She said and she left Regina standing alone in front of what used to be her tent.
After the commotion of the tent on fire, everyone went back to do what they were doing before: eating s'mores, talking, playing stupid games, kissing. Everyone but Regina, who was staring at what remained of her tent and blanket. Robin was standing next to her.
She exhaled. "I guess I'll sleep with Ruby."
"Or?"
"Or I could ask my brother, but I doubt he would share."
"Or?"
Regina punched him in the shoulder. "Would you stop saying 'or', would you? What the hell do you mean?" Oh she was pissed.
"Or you could sleep with me. And I mean literally sleeping, nothing more. You know that Ruby didn't even put her tent up since she's going into Neal's."
"Robin…"
"What? We would just sleep."
Regina pondered options but then she let out a "Fine", leaning against Robin. In response he put his arm around her.
"If this is not fate, I don't know what to call it." Ruby said from her place between Neal's legs where they were sitting in front of the fire, his arms around her.
"What do you mean Rubs?"
"Your sister and Robin. I mean look at them."
Neal looked in the direction Ruby was saying and he didn't know if he liked what he was seeing. Robin had his arms around his sister and he was kissing her head. And Regina seemed very content in his arms.
Ruby looked up at him when she felt him tense behind her. "Hey, leave them alone." She said, pulling Neal's head towards hers so she could kiss him.
"It's just, it's strange seeing her like that."
"Nothing is strange, you're just being an overprotective brother." Neal snorted as Ruby kissed him again.
"So are you ready to go to bed?" Robin whispered in Regina's ear.
She bit her lip. "I don't know."
He smirked. "Because you're going to share with me?"
She shaked her head. "No. Yes. I don't know. I guess I'm just tired and annoyed because of my tent."
"Come on, let's go to bed."
"But it's still early." She protested.
"It'a also one in the morning, you are exhausted and angry as fuck because of your tent. Let's go."
Regina didn't move and Robin began to pull her slightly towards him. She smiled at the gesture and Robin did it again. She resisted a bit but at the end she let Robin pull her towards his tent.
He waited for her to change before they exchanged places so he could change to. When they were ready she went back in.
"So, how are we going to do this?"
"You can take the blanket, I don't need it."
"Don't be daft, of course you need it." She was annoyed and Robin wasn't being helpful. Of course Regina knew it wasn't his fault, but she was sure he had done something or that he would do something, so she could be angry at him too.
"We could share. The blanket I mean. We sleep in our sleeping bags and we put the blanket on top of both of us."
Regina stopped to think about it for a moment. "It could work."
They settle down, their sleeping bags next to each other. Robin put the blanket on top of them and Regina let out a content sign at the warm sensation. They moved so that their backs were facing each other.
"Good night Robin."
Robin turned a bit and kissed her head. "Good night Regina."
It took everything in Regina to not react to the gesture. But who could blame her if she reacted? She has had a crush on Robin since forever.
At some point during the night they moved and her back was pressed against Robin's front. One of Robin's hand lost in Regina's hair.
When they woke up the following morning they had changed position again. Regina's head was pillowed against Robin, his arm beneath her, her hand on his chest next to his other hand.
Regina moved when she had the sensation someone was staring at her. Lifting her eyes she saw that Robin was looking down at her, a goofy smile on his face.
"Hi."
"Hi." She whispered back.
"How did you sleep?" He asked her while his fingers were playing with her hair.
"Wonderfully." She answered with a shy smile.
They kept staring at each other for what seemed an eternity before Robin lay forward to kiss her. It was something sweet and slow and completely unexpected, but extremely pleasant from both sides. They stopped only when they needed air.
"What are we doing?" She asked, still a bit breathless.
"Something I wanted to do for a long time."
She looked at him with wide eyes. She almost couldn't believe what Robin was saying.
"Really?"
"Yeah." He assured her. "Regina, I really like you. I liked you since I met the mysterious girl that was Neal's sister. And I don't go around and just kiss girls." He said truthfully to her.
Regina looked at him before pillowing again her head against him and let out a content sign. Almost automatically Robin put his arm around her.
"Good, this is a relief. Because I don't just go around and kiss boys either."
Robin scoffed. "What do you mean by that?"
She looked up at him from her position on him. "It means I really like you too."
Both Robin and Regina were grinning like idiots.
But their moment was interrupted by Will. "Hey, you two. Breakfast is ready. I would come out and grab something before John eats everything."
Robin was ready to murder him. "We're coming!" He said back.
"Sometimes I really hate him."
Regina began to move from him. "But for once he's right. We should go eat before John finishes everything."
But Regina couldn't move too far because Robin pulled her against him once again. "Not before I ask you something."
"And what is it?" Regina was half lying on top of him but it wasn't like he was sad about it.
He grinned. "Since both of us don't just go around and kiss others, can I be the lucky one who can just kiss you?"
Her face lit up like it was christmas. "I would like that very much."
And with that she kissed him again before pulling back, putting something on going out to the others. Robin shook his head and went to grab his sweater only to realize that Regina had taken it. Laughing at that, he took his other sweater and joined the group.
"It was nice of the two of you to join us." Ruby teased them.
"Really Ruby?"
"Not your business."
"Why don't you shut up, Rubs."
Neal, Robin and Regina said together. Neal wasn't interested in knowing what his sister might or might not have done with Robin. Robin and Regina simply didn't like gossip. Well, gossip about their life.
They went hiking that day and Robin and Regina tried to behave like nothing had happened between them, but they failed miserably.
When they went to sleep that night, they immediately cuddled up together, sharing the blanket. They would also have shared the sleeping bags if they weren't too small for two people, clothes since Regina still had Robin's sweater, and kisses, a lot of kisses.
Thank you for reading. Constructive criticisms and thoughts are always welcome.
